The new Ahmedabad-based <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> team, owned by CVC Capital, will be called <keyword id="6354766" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gujarat" source="Orion">Gujarat</keyword> Titans, the franchise revealed on Wednesday, days ahead of the mega auction. The naming of the Ahmedabad franchise comes days after the Lucknow-based team announced its official name as Lucknow Super Giants. Both Ahmedabad and Lucknow are two new entrants to the IPL and were bought by CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd) and RPSG Group respectively, last October. "Debuting in the 15th season of the IPL, the Gujarat Titans will pay tribute to the state's rich cricketing legacy, which has seen it produce countless Indian international cricket legends over the years," the franchise said in a statement on Wednesday. "The franchise is inspired by the opportunity to represent and build on this deep cricketing heritage, as well as build on its future success on the pitch," it added. India all-rounder Hardik Pandya (Rs 15 crore) will lead the Ahmedabad team while they have also picked Rashid Khan (Rs 15 crore) and Shubman Gill (Rs 8 crore) via drafts ahead of the auction. It will be only the second IPL team for all three players, with Rashid coming over from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gill from Kolkata Knight Riders, and Pandya from Mumbai Indians. This will also be the first time Pandya will lead an IPL franchise. Titans have also named their coaching staff comprising Ashish Nehra (head coach), Gary Kirsten (mentor and batting coach) and Vikram Solanki (director of cricket). The trio has worked together for Royal Challengers Bangalore previously. Titans' home stadium will be the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world's largest cricket stadium. "We want this group to achieve great things for Gujarat and its many passionate fans, which is why we have chosen the name Titans," Siddharth Patel, a partner at CVC, said. "As we approach the league's mega auction, we are confident that we will be able to put together the right combination of players going into the new season. We want individuals that are not only highly skilled but who are inspired to be Titans of the game. "We look forward to starting on our journey with the passion and support of the people of Gujarat, and hope to inspire and win over new fans from all over India and the world," he added. Titans will have Rs 52 crore in their purse for the auction, scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. During 2003, when most states of India were riding the IT wave and struggling to find profitability, Modi was calling investors from all over the world and briefing them about ease of doing business in India’s west coast. And he actually did it. 
 Cut to 2017. The 8th edition of Vibrant Gujarat is taking place under a Chief Minister who is just a little more than five months into his job. The erstwhile Chief Minister <keyword id="4057401" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="anandbehen-patel">Anandbehen Patel</keyword> had failed in her job to appease Dalits, create more jobs and keep <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> president <keyword id="6355521" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Shah">Amit Shah</keyword> convinced. As Gujarat’s ‘economic expressway’ (as they prefer calling the event) seems to zoom off, you can hear echoing whispers among a few industrialists at the event, how much of the proposed promises have actually been implemented. Gujarat, which topped the World Bank’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ in India has now lost it to <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword> and Telengana. 
 
Experts believe, as Modi has become the Prime Minister, there have been instances of social unrest and political instability that came to the fore. And as the last business summit before the election is underway, investors’ minds are getting impacted. 
 
This edition of Vibrant Gujarat has seen MoUs touch Rs 20 lakh crores. The amount is likely to cross Rs 30 lakh croremark today, according to The Times of India. Among the sectors where companies expressed their intent to invest defence and aerospace, mining and minerals, chemicals, steel, urban infrastructure, petroleum and petrochemicals, renewable energy, automotive, electronics and information technology are noteworthy. 
 While the state government of Gujarat said that conversion rate is clocked at 70%, the opposition party <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> claimed the actual to be pegged at not more than 10%. However top business conglomerates <keyword id="4057400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-and-adani-group">Reliance and Adani Group</keyword> said that they have fulfilled their promises.

The same media report said, Gujarat is no longer the easiest place to do business any more. 
 However, Modi’s brain child Vibrant Gujarat has seen several other states including <keyword id="6357783" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="West-Bengal">West Bengal</keyword> and <keyword id="6355588" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajasthan">Rajasthan</keyword> adapt the same concept and get investments. 
 The social unrest in India’s one of the most opulent states is rising. Only a few weeks back, Conveners of <keyword id="2983086" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Patidar-Anamat-Andolan-Samiti">Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti</keyword> (<keyword id="6406288" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PaaS">PAAS</keyword>), <keyword id="45661" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="OBC">OBC</keyword> leaders and dalits have threatened to disrupt the summit, if fixed-pay and contractual employees were not made permanent by the state government. So a state, whose Minister of Industries, Mines and Minerals and <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword> department <keyword id="387325" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Patel">Rohit Patel</keyword> boasted of ‘minimum labour unrest’ during his speech seems to be getting distracted. 
 
Not just that. A few months ago, Gujarat has witnessed backlash against jobless economic growth that could jeopardise development and BJP’s coming back t power in 2019, reported Bloomberg. 
 
This season of Vibrant Gujarat seemed to be relying largely on the previous editions of success. Most state ministers thanked Modi immensely for this summit, while avoiding media question of how much implementation has happened. What they offered are figures of investments and not facts about implementation.

State-owned <keyword id="77463" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-finance-corporation" source="Orion">Power Finance Corporation</keyword> has inked an initial pact with the <keyword id="6354766" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gujarat" source="Orion">Gujarat</keyword> government to provide comprehensive financial backing for the state's <keyword id="6380509" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="generation" source="Orion">generation</keyword>, <keyword id="67884" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="transmission" source="Orion">transmission</keyword>, and distribution projects. Power Finance Corporation (PFC) signed an <keyword id="6368586" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mou" source="Orion">MoU</keyword> with the government of Gujarat on January 3, 2024, according to a company statement issued on Wednesday. The MoU was signed by Parminder Chopra, CMD PFC and Jai Prakash Shivhare, MD (GUVNL) in the presence of Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat. The chief objective of this MoU is to provide comprehensive financial backing for the state's generation, transmission, and distribution projects. The MoU, signed in Gandhinagar, marks a significant step towards bolstering various projects undertaken by the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL), Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Ltd (GETCO), Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL), Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL), Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL), and Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (UGVCL). The collaboration is set to facilitate long-term debt and other critical funding necessities vital for executing these diverse projects. Under the terms of the MoU, the envisaged financial assistance stands at an impressive Rs 25,000 crore, dedicated to powering up various projects across Gujarat, it stated. This substantial financial commitment underscores PFC's steadfast commitment to bolstering the power infrastructure in the region and supporting the state's ambitious initiatives in the power sector. Apart from facilitating the expansion of power infrastructure, the MoU shall also help create employment generation of up to 10,000 in Gujarat.

Power Finance Corp commits Rs 25,000 cr for power sector projects in Gujarat

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP chief CR Paatil exchanged sweets while celebrating the party's victory. The party workers played musical instruments and danced to celebrate the nearing victory. The BJP is leading on 150 seats while the party has won five seats so far, according to the latest data by the Election Commission till 1.05 pm. The party registered its first win in the Dahod constituency where Kanaiyalal Bachubhai Kishori won with a margin of nearly 30,000 votes. Kishori, who was up against <keyword id="1575" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="congress" source="Orion">Congress</keyword>' Harshadbhai Valchandbhai Ninama and Aam Aadmi Party's Dineshbhai Bhurabhai Muniya, received 72,660 votes with a 43.54 per cent vote share. His Congress opponent, Ninama, got 43,310 votes and shared a vote percentage of 25.95, while AAP's Muniya got 34,010 votes with a 20.38 pc vote share. The other seat on which the party won was the Petlad constituency, where BJP's Kamleshbhai Rameshbhai Patel secured 89,166 votes while Congress' Prakash Budhabhai Parmar got 71,212 votes. The party also won the Mahuva seat. Mohanbhai Bhodiya won the elections defeating Congress' Geraiyia Dippakkumar. The counting of votes for the Gujarat Assembly elections began on Thursday at 8 am. The counting in Gujarat began at 37 centres in 33 districts. Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer P Bharathi said that 182 counting observers, 182 election officers and 494 assistant election officers are on duty for the counting process. There will be an additional 78 Assistant Election Officers for the counting of votes. In addition, 71 additional Assistant Election Officers have been assigned responsibility for the electronically transmitted postal ballot system in the previous polls Assembly elections in Gujarat were held in two phases on December 1 and 5 respectively. The approximate voter turnout in Gujarat by the end of the second phase of the Gujarat elections was recorded at 59.11 per cent. During the first phase of polling on December 1, Gujarat saw an overall turnout of 63.14 per cent. While polling for 68 assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh was held on November 12. Meanwhile, the exit polls have indicated a clear win for the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat. BJP has been in power in Gujarat for 27 years with Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword> remaining in the Chief Minister's post for the longest time before becoming the Prime Minister. "Reliance has invested over USD 150 billion (12 lakh crore) in creating world-class assets and capacities across India in last just 10 years. Of this, more than one third has been invested in Gujarat alone," he said. He said Reliance will contribute to making Gujarat a global leader in green growth. "We will help Gujarat's target to meet half of its energy needs through renewables by 2030." Reliance started building the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex over 5,000 acres in Jamnagar. This will generate a large number of green jobs and enable production of green products and materials that will make Gujarat the leading exporter of such goods and the company is ready to roll this out in the second half of 2024 itself, he said. Reliance Jio completed the fastest roll-out of 5G infrastructure anywhere in the world. For India's bid for 2036 Olympics, Reliance and Reliance Foundation will join forces with several other partners in Gujarat to improve the education, sports and skills infrastructure that will nurture the champions of tomorrow in various Olympics sports, he said. "No power on earth can stop India from becoming a 35 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. And I see Gujarat alone will become a 3-trillion dollar economy by then," he added.

Reliance to set up carbon fibre facility in Gujarat as Ambani promises 'green growth'

The agreement was signed in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel on the sidelines of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 on January 10-12 at Gandhinagar, a company statement said. According to the statement, <keyword id="20197400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="avaada" source="keywords">Avaada</keyword> Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the <keyword id="6370685" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gujarat-government" source="Orion">Gujarat government</keyword>. This <keyword id="116175" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="strategic-alliance" source="Orion">strategic alliance</keyword> aims to set up hybrid wind-solar projects with an aggregate 6,000 MW (6 GW) capacity in the state with an investment of about Rs 40,000 crore. The group's commitment to green initiatives in Gujarat is underscored by substantial investments in the development of a robust renewable energy ecosystem. The <keyword id="6476394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hybrid-projects" source="Orion">hybrid projects</keyword>, located in various districts of Gujarat, predominantly in the underdeveloped wastelands of Kutch, will supply power to various utilities of India including GUVNL (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd), and for captive use of Avaada's green hydrogen/ammonia projects. These projects will substantially reduce the carbon emissions and dependability of conventional power sources. With an estimated annual generation of 17.5 billion units of green electricity, this will lead to a reduction of approximately 16.3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions annually, contributing significantly to India's green energy supply and powering nearly 12.6 million households. Moreover, it will generate 1,200 direct and indirect jobs, thereby contributing to local and regional economic development. "This strategic partnership signifies our unwavering commitment to foster a robust, clean energy ecosystem. Besides the signing of the new 6 GW capacity in the state, we already have projects of 2 GW capacity that are operational or at various stages of implementation in the state of Gujarat," Vineet Mittal, Chairperson of Avaada Group, said in the statement. Avaada Group is into production of solar modules, renewable power generation, and the development of large-scale projects for green hydrogen, green methanol, green ammonia, and sustainable aviation fuel.

So far, the joint venture company has not finalised the location as they are evaluating various sites in Gujarat based on technical aspects, commercial viability and connectivity to set up the semiconductor and a display fabrication unit in the state, Nehra told PTI. In the biggest ever corporate investment in the history of independent India, a joint venture of the Vedanta and Foxconn had on September 14 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government to invest ₹ 1,54,000 crore to set up the plant in the state. Nehra had signed the MoU on behalf of the state government. "Vedanta and Foxconn have hired sector experts who are evaluating possible sites for the upcoming plant in Gujarat. Earlier they were evaluating multiple sites across different countries. In December 2021, when the Centre had announced the 'India Semiconductor Mission', they started looking for sites across different states in India (and then selected Gujarat)," Nehra said. The promoters are now evaluating sites in Gujarat on different technical aspects, commercial viability, connectivity and utility point of view, Nehra said, adding that the site may be finalised in the next couple of weeks. "There are many minute things which need to be kept in mind while selecting the site. For example, the production process can get affected due to the vibrations of passing trains. There must not be any vibrations near the plant. Power outage of even one second in a year can result in a loss of crores of rupees," he said. Gujarat became the first state in the country to have such a dedicated policy for the semiconductor and display fabrication sector, a government official earlier said. While announcing the policy, the Gujarat government had announced that it will set up '<keyword id="14570013" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="dholera-semicon-city" source="Orion">Dholera Semicon City</keyword>' in the Dholera Special Investment Region near Ahmedabad to attract investors. Under this policy, eligible projects will be given 75 per cent subsidy on purchase of the first 200 acres of land for setting up manufacturing units. The eligible projects will be provided good quality water at the rate of ₹ 12 per cubic metre for the first five years. If the investor decides to build its own desalination plant for captive use in the initial five years, the government will provide capital subsidy of 50 per cent of project cost, according to the policy document. The eligible manufacturing units would also get power tariff subsidy of ₹ 2 per unit for the first 10 years of going into production, it said, adding that such projects can also claim exemption from paying any electricity duty. To encourage investors under the policy, the state government has also announced to reimburse 100 per cent of stamp duty which investors would pay for the first time for taking land on lease, sale or on land transfer. In order to remove bottlenecks and provide quick clearances to investors, the state government will establish a single window mechanism to provide all the necessary approvals from one place, the policy document stated. Since uninterrupted power supply is crucial for such projects, the government will provide or facilitate "adequate redundancy in the <keyword id="6368906" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-grid" botkeyword="" source="ET" sourcekeytype="COMPANY" meta.keywordsubtype="EQ" meta.aliasname="power grid" meta.entityname="Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd." meta.entityid="4628" meta.seoname="power-grid-corporation-of-india-ltd">power grid</keyword> to ensure quality power supply for smooth operations". The policy also gives an assurance that the government will "develop appropriate water distribution to ensure the treated water is delivered to the eligible project". Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant site in Gujarat likely to be finalised in 2 weeks: Official

Bharatiya Janata Party (<keyword id="14666" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bjp" source="Orion">BJP</keyword>) leader <keyword id="908125" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bhupendra-patel" source="Orion">Bhupendra Patel</keyword> has taken the oath of Chief Minister of <keyword id="6354766" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="gujarat" source="Orion">Gujarat</keyword> for a second consecutive time in Gandhinagar on Monday. Patel was administered the oath as the 18th Chief Minister by Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Helipad Ground near the new Secretariat in Gandhinagar at 2 pm. The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="Orion">Narendra Modi</keyword>, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of BJP-led states. As per sources, about 20 cabinet ministers will also take oath on the same day, along with Bhupendra Patel and will take charge of their respective offices, the very next day. BJP swept the Gujarat Assembly election winning a whopping 156 seats, which is the highest number of seats any party has won after the formation of the state in the year 1960. The BJP's seventh consecutive Assembly poll win in Gujarat is its biggest since the founding of this state in 1960. Patel was sworn in as the 17th Chief Minister of Gujarat on September 13, 2021. He was first elected as BJP legislative party leader on September 12, 2021. He began his political journey as a member in Memnagar municipality and got elected as MLA from Ghatlodia constituency (Ahmedabad) in the 2017 Gujarat assembly elections. Breaking his own record, Patel once again won from Ghatlodia constituency by a staggering margin of 1,91,000 votes in the 2022 election. This overwhelming majority of the BJP in Gujarat depicts the absolute faith of the people in Patel's leadership. Patel has vast experience in administration, having served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and as a Corporator for Thaltej ward from 2010 to 2015. He began his political career in 1995 when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Memnagar municipality. He served the municipality for over a decade, becoming Chairman of the local body during 1999-2000 and 2004-2006. He also served as the Vice Chairman of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation School Board between 2008 and 2010. Later on, he served as a Corporator from Thaltej ward from 2010 to 2015. During this tenure, he served as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). In 2015, he was appointed as the chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA). In 2017, Patel became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the first time, by winning the election from Ghatlodia constituency with a wide margin of 1,17,000 votes. Born on July 15, 1962, in Ahmedabad, Patel holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from Government Polytechnic, Ahmedabad. He is a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He is also an active member of Pandit Deendayal Library managed by RSS at Memnagar. The BJP created history in Gujarat with a landslide victory in the 2022 election and its 7th consecutive win. It is the party's largest win in Gujarat since the state's formation in 1960. It is an important win for the BJP. Notably, there has always been a strong contest between the BJP and Congress in Gujarat, but this time around, Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) entry made this election an interesting one. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal tried hard to woo the people of Gujarat with the promises of providing free electricity and water, Rs 1,000 per month for women and a loan waiver for farmers. On the other hand, Congress also tried to attract voters with all kinds of sops. The BJP bagged 156 seats in the 182-member Assembly, its highest-ever poll tally in the state. The opposition Congress could manage only 17 seats while Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party had to be content with just 5 seats. Three seats went to Independent candidates while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won a lone seat in the state. The BJP, which has won its seventh straight election in Gujarat, not only improved its own best record of 127 seats in 2002-- the first election with Narendra Modi as Chief Minister -- but the Congress' tally of 149 seats in 1985.
