For instance, if they advertise “fully-equipped classrooms,” the guidelines require this to be an honest description. New <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword>, The Delhi government on Tuesday issued fresh guidelines for handling end-of-life vehicles in public places, stipulating a penalty of Rs 10,000 for four-wheelers and Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers to be imposed on owners of impounded vehicles before being released. According to the guidelines, continuous enforcement drives should be conducted to phase out such vehicles from public places in the national capital and daily reports sent to the environment department for onward submission to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The government has classified the release procedure of impounded vehicles under two categories -- those who wish to shift their vehicle out of Delhi-NCR and those who wish to park the vehicle in private spaces which are not shared parking places. "On plying and parking of ELVs in public place in NCT of Delhi, once impounded for the first time it can be released on the basis of submission of an undertaking that vehicle will not be plied or parked in any public place within the territory of Delhi and will be removed from the city...," the guidelines read "In case of 4-wheeler, a penalty of Rs 10,000 along with towing charge and parking fee as notified in <keyword id="20667071" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-maintenance-and-management-of-parking-places-rules" source="keywords">Delhi Maintenance and Management of Parking Places Rules</keyword>, 2019, shall be charged before releasing of such ELVs. In case of 2-wheeler, a penalty of Rs 5,000 along with towing charge and parking fee as notified in Parking Rules 2019 shall be charged...," it said. According to the guidelines, any end-of-life vehicle impounded for the second time and transport vehicles running on diesel fuel and aged more than 10 years old cannot be released. The application for the release of a vehicle along with necessary documents should be submitted within three weeks of impounding of the vehicle and an online platform will be developed for this purpose, it said. According to the guidelines, impounded vehicles will be scrapped in case of three scenarios -- non-submission of application for release within three weeks of impounding of the vehicle, rejection of application submitted for release and impounding of the same vehicle for the second time. All scrap value shall be paid through digital mode only to the bank account in the name of the vehicle owner within 15 days of the vehicle being accepted by the <keyword id="20663769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="registered-vehicles-scrapping-facility" source="keywords">Registered Vehicles Scrapping Facility</keyword>, it added. Delhi govt issues guidelines for handling end-of-life vehicles in public places

The Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) issued comprehensive guidelines on the measures to be put in place by the banks covering various aspects of classifying <keyword id="6374937" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="accounts" source="Orion">accounts</keyword> and <keyword id="6496248" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="deposits" source="Orion">deposits</keyword> as inoperative accounts and <keyword id="1084310" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="unclaimed-deposits" source="Orion">unclaimed deposits</keyword>. The central bank called for steps to trace the customers of inoperative accounts or unclaimed deposits including their nominees or legal heirs for re-activation of accounts, settlement of <keyword id="6387025" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="claims" source="Orion">claims</keyword> or closure. RBI also stressed a periodic review of such accounts and deposits, measures to prevent fraud in such accounts or deposits, and grievance redressal mechanisms for expeditious resolution of complaints. These instructions are expected to complement the ongoing efforts and initiatives taken by banks and the RBI, to reduce the quantum of unclaimed deposits in the banking system and return such deposits to their rightful owners or claimants. According to rules, the credit balance in any deposit account maintained with banks, which has not been operated upon for ten years or more, or any amount remaining unclaimed for ten years or more, is required to be transferred by banks to Depositor Education and Awareness (DEA) fund maintained by the central bank RBI. This latest circular applies to all commercial banks (including regional rural banks) and all cooperative banks. The revised instructions shall come into effect from April 1, 2024. In August last year, RBI launched a Centralised Web Portal UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits - Gateway to Access information), for the public to facilitate and make it easier for them to search their unclaimed deposits across multiple banks at one place. Given the increasing trend in the number of unclaimed deposits, RBI had then said it has been undertaking public awareness campaigns from time to time to sensitise the public on the matter. Further, through these initiatives, the RBI maintains it has been encouraging members of the public to identify and approach their respective banks for claiming unclaimed deposits. (ANI)
