Economists at the country's largest lender, SBI, today said they see India's Q2 real GDP growth slowing down further to 6.5% in the September quarter of this fiscal year. Amid concerns over the country's economic growth rate and whether it is slowing down, the analysts said they expect FY25 growth to come "closer to" 7%. SBI analysts join a long line of agencies like Fitch, ADB, IMF, Moody, World Bank, S&amp;P, and even RBI in forecasting India's GDP growth for FY25 in the range of 6.8% to 7.2% for FY25, driven by robust consumption and investment. SIP inflows have been at an all-time high, and so has QIP (qualified institutional placement) fundraising. As many as 71 companies raised Rs 88,678 crore this year through QIPs. Activity in Indian primary markets also remained robust, with 78 mainboard IPOs in 2024; this is a 111% rise from just 38 listings in FY23. Between April and June 2024, India's real GDP grew by 6.7%, the lowest growth seen in 15 quarters, pushing experts to believe that India is caught in a cycle of slowdown. "There is some incipient pressure evident on the domestic economy. Based on our analysis of 50 meaningful leading indicators (both consumption and demand-centric), a dip looks plausible across select cohorts of agriculture, industry, and services in Q2," the <keyword id="22337294" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI-economists" source="keywords">SBI economists</keyword> added. Stating that they track 50 indicators to gauge economic activity, SBIs note said the proportion of indicators showing acceleration declined to 69% in Q2 FY25, as against 80% in Q2 FY24 and 78% in Q1 FY25. However, things might be changing now, given that rural demand has started looking up amidst muted urban demand. SBI also explained that the ongoing regulatory tightening on unsecured lending and roadblocks that are hindering rollover/refinancing of debt through unsecured credit are dismantling the unwarranted exuberance that had built up post-pandemic, especially in the urban areas. Notably, RBI MPC is set to meet between December 4 and 6, 2024, to decide if the prevailing repo rate of 6.5%, which has stayed unchanged for the last 2 years, should be brought down or not. In its last meeting, The <keyword id="20501100" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI-monetary-policy" source="keywords">RBI monetary policy</keyword> committee had shifted its stance to 'neutral' indicating that it is open to adjusting interest rates based on economic conditions. "It should not be assumed that we have done this, so therefore the next step is a rate cut. A change in stance doesn't mean that the next step is a rate cut in the very next meeting. It's not so," Das said. Das also cautioned that inflation remains a key factor, and inflation and CPI prints for October are expected to stay high.

The company's shares opened high (hovering around ₹126 in morning) on Tuesday after international brokerage firm CLSA remained bullish on its stock. In August last year, Zomato introduced a ₹2 platform fee to improve its margins and become profitable. The company later increased the platform fee to ₹3 before raising it again on January 1 to ₹4. The new platform fee is levied on all customers, including Zomato Gold. “This has been one of the ways of improving profitability for Zomato - apart from ad revenue, delivery charges and higher commission from restaurants - as margin levers. Zomato does about 85 - 90 crore orders annually - an increase in each Re 1 convenience fee will lead to a positive impact of ₹85-90 crore on EBITDA - which is around 5% positive impact on EBITDA,” says Karan Taurani, Senior Vice President-Research Analyst at Elara Capital. However, he says that constant increase in delivery/platform fee may enable lower growth rates for order volume and one would need to monitor potential impact of this on order volume growth. Zomato and its quick commerce platform Blinkit saw highest-ever orders and bookings on the New Year's Eve, compared to previous years. "We have delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future!" Zomato Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal posted on X. Albinder Dhindsa, CEO, Blinkit said they crossed the total number of orders they did on NYE 2022 in the evening only. "We've already hit highest-ever orders in a day, OPM (orders per minute), soft drinks and tonic water sold in a day, chips sold in a day, tips given to riders in a day (thank you India)," Dhindsa informed. Meanwhile, Zomato received notices from the tax authorities in Delhi and Karnataka over alleged short payment of goods and services tax (GST) amounting to ₹4.2 crore. Zomato said it will appeal against the tax demand notices. My two kids have been huge fans of TikTok for years.The older one is now in her second year of college, studying mechanical engineering. She rents a house with friends. There's a huge study load, along with house cleaning, cooking, doing the dishes, emptying the trash, paying bills, and yes, parties.A couple of months ago, she decided to delete TikTok from her phone. She's part of a competition in her house right now to see who can limit screen time the most.A year ago, this daughter watched at least two hours of TikTok per day. I'd given up trying to limit this. She's an adult, and I have no sway anymore. And yet, she recently came to the realization by herself that she couldn't fit in all her new obligations and still watch TikTok for hours every day.My younger daughter lives at home and is still in high school, so her daily TikTok intake is still massive. She's leaving for college in the fall, so she'll eventually face a similar dilemma with her time.<h2>This is not just me</h2>The Wall Street Journal recently interviewed a few TikTok users in their 20s. <ul><li><keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword> has changed its projections twice on how the country’s economy will expand this financial year. </li><li>RBI’s predictions are a tad lower than that of multiple agencies like CRISIL, S&amp;P, Moody’s and SBI Ecowrap which expect India’s FY23 GDP to grow by 7%. </li><li>RBI predicts that the inflation for the current financial year will be at 6.7% and says the battle against inflation is not over. </li></ul>India’s central bank on Wednesday downgraded its <keyword id="44910" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gdp-growth" source="Orion">GDP growth</keyword> outlook for FY23 to 6.8% from 7% it had predicted in September this year. This is the second time that the RBI has changed its outlook on how the country’s economy will expand, from 7.2% it had expected during the start of the year. “A growth of 6.8% is considered very strong in the current context when the world economy is going through an acute slowdown,” said RBI governor Shaktikanta Das in his monetary policy committee statement as he announced a 35 basis point hike in the headline rate. Das added that in spite of the marginal revision, India would be amongst the fastest growing major economies in the world. The governor said that the second quarter GDP growth which came in at 6.3%, is in line with the central bank’s expectations. As per its central bank’s latest predictions, the third quarter GDP growth is at 4.4% and fourth quarter to grow at a pace of 4.2%. In the first quarter of FY24, it expects GDP to pick up pace at 7.1% before moderating to 5.9% in the second quarter of the next financial year. RBI’s predictions are a tad lower than that of multiple agencies like CRISIL, S&amp;P, Moody’s and SBI Ecowrap which have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/news/no-end-to-downgrades-in-gdp-estimates-as-economists-remain-divided-on-severity-of-slowdown/articleshow/95847763.cms">recently downgraded India’s</a> FY23 GDP growth outlook to 7%. The inflation rate for the third quarter is projected to be at 6.6% and go down to 5.9% in the last quarter of the current financial year. Saying that the effects of ‘imported inflation’ are expected to remain high, he added that the battle against inflation is far from over. “The problem of inflation is not over, we will closely monitor the data and assess the situation and the outlook, and will be ready to act. Our actions will be nimble and in the best interests of the economy,” Das said. Economic activity has stayed strong, with urban consumption showing sustained growth, as seen in services consumption like travel, year on year growth in auto sales. Rural demand is also recovering as seen in tractor sales. The Rabi acreage sown is 6.8% higher than what it was last year, as of December 2. RBI downgrades FY23 GDP growth projections to 6.8% - lower than World Bank and other global agencies

<ul><li>India's economy grew by 6.3% in Q2 of FY23 as compared to 8.4% growth it had seen in Q2 FY22. </li><li>Analysts predicted that the Indian economy would expand at half of the growth rate of 13.5% recorded in the April-June quarter this fiscal. </li><li>China registered an economic growth rate of 3.9% in July-September, 2022. </li></ul>India's economy grew by 6.3% in the second quarter of the current fiscal, official data released on Wednesday showed. The gross domestic product (GDP) had expanded by 8.4% in the July-September quarter of 2021-22, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). Analysts had projected the Indian economy would expand at half of the growth rate of 13.5% recorded in the April-June quarter this fiscal. According to rating agency ICRA, the GDP was likely to grow at 6.5% while State Bank of India projected the growth rate at 5.8% in the September 2022 quarter. Earlier this month, in an article published in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bulletin, the GDP growth was pegged at 6.1-6.3% in the second quarter of this fiscal year. China registered an economic growth rate of 3.9% in July-September, 2022. ‘Manufacturing disappointed with negative growth rate’ Bank of Baroda report said that the Q2 GDP numbers were slightly lower than their forecast of 6.5%. “While most numbers were on expected lines, manufacturing has been a disappointment with a negative growth rate. In case of manufacturing it has been clearly affected by low growth for the small and medium enterprises (SME) sector as per index of industrial production (IIP) numbers, and fall in profits that has affected value added for the organized sector,” said Madan Sabnavis, chief economist of Bank Of Baroda. He added that the agriculture growth of 4.6% should be viewed with caution as it is early days of Kharif harvest, and the allied sectors are more likely to have pushed up this growth rate. “We do expect GDP growth to be around 6.8% for the year, with a downward bias depending on the changing economic environment. But the downside will not be more than 0.2-0.3%,” said Sabavis. Mining and manufacturing sectors have both witnessed negative growth rates. While the mining sector growth might have been affected by a high base effect, combined with fall in output of oil and gas. FY23 GDP downgrades continue In the first quarter of FY23 as lockdowns ended, GDP expanded by 13.5%. However, this was also lower than most estimates – sending many agencies and the RBI itself to revise their growth projections of the year to 7% this September, from 7.2% earlier. On Monday, rating agency <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/sp-cuts-indias-growth-forecast-to-7-for-fy23/articleshow/95821441.cms">Standard &amp; Poor’s said that it </a>now expects India’s GDP to grow at 7% for FY23 as compared to the 7.3% it had estimated earlier. CRISIL estimates mirror S&amp;P’s – as it lowered from 7.3% to 7% – but over a week ahead of S&amp;P. CRISIL also expects FY24 growth to slow down further to 6%. Goldman Sachs, like CRISIL, believes that India’s growth momentum will be affected by the fading effects of post-Covid reopening, coupled with higher borrowing costs. A couple of weeks back, it slashed GDP growth expectations to 5.9% next year, as compared to the 6.9% growth of 2022. All in all, most agencies believe that it has become tougher to predict the pace of growth since the pandemic. “We however believe there is somehow a large disconnect between leading indicators and GDP growth since the onset of the pandemic. Growth impulses continue to be strong and it may be better to look through the GDP headline numbers for a couple of quarters before arriving at a definitive conclusion about the growth trajectory,” said SBI Ecowrap in a report released on November 28. India's GDP growth comes in at 6.3% in Q2: manufacturing, mining witness negative growth

It said that India’s growth momentum will be affected by fading effects of post-Covid reopening, coupled with higher borrowing costs. “Growth will likely be a tale of two halves, with a slower first half as the reopening boost fades, and monetary tightening weighs on domestic demand. In the second half, growth is likely to re-accelerate as global growth recovers, drag from net exports diminishes, and investment cycle picks up,” said Goldman Sachs according to<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/indicators/goldman-sachs-slashes-indias-gdp-forecast-for-2023-to-5-9/articleshow/95651040.cms"> a Bloomberg report</a>. Many agencies including CRISIL and S&amp;P had downgraded their growth projections on the Indian economy as the rate of growth had started slowing down after the first two quarters. In fact, RBI itself had changed its estimates twice on how much India will grow in FY23. Das, who said that the world economic situation is not as grim as it was a few months ago, is confident about the Indian economy, which has emerged stronger after having suffered multiple major shocks in the last three years. “India has the inherent strength, an enabling policy environment, and strong macroeconomic fundamentals and buffers to deal with the future challenges. While there's no way to reliably predict what's going to happen in any given market, there are some indicators that can give you an idea of what opportunities might be worth exploring. Compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) is one such measure. Here is a closer look at what CAGR is and what it means in terms of investments. <h2>What is compound annual growth rate (CAGR)? </h2>CAGR is a formula that calculates how the value of an investment has changed over the course of a specific time period, assuming all earnings have been reinvested and no deductions have been made. This calculation allows investors to look at how much an investment has gained or lost over one or more years as a way to determine overall performance. It's a useful tool for comparing multiple investments to see what might be worth buying into, whether it's securities, property, business, or anything else of value. <h2>How CAGR works </h2>CAGR is calculated by looking at the initial and final values of an investment and a period of time over which to evaluate performance. This formula is relatively simple and assumes that nothing has been deducted from the investment, such as a sale of shares. It also assumes that any value earned - through interest or dividends - has been reinvested and compounded into the investment. "The CAGR measure can be used in any industry," explains Daniel Garza, Chartered Financial Analyst and Senior Research Analyst with <a href="https://intercontinentalwealthadvisors.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">Intercontinental Wealth Advisors</a>. "However, it can be used in the investment world to complement other widely used measures, such as time-weighted return. This is because some assets are not publicly traded and it's harder to know their value at a specific time every month/year to evaluate growth or rate of return."Garza says that CAGR is useful when applied to assets that don't have publicly available data to determine performance, such as property or physical assets. "This is because having an initial value for a physical asset and a final value for the same asset, regardless of the time frame, allows you to calculate it," he says. The value of N will be the timeframe you're evaluating, such as a number of years. </li><li>Finally, subtract 1 from the value you get from applying the exponent. </li></ul>Let's see how this works when you put it all together. To keep things simple, we are going to determine the CAGR for an investment that has grown from $100 to $108 in value over 5 years. Your formula would look like this when you plug in all of the values:CAGR = (108/100)/^⅕ -1 = .015511 or 1.5511% This tells us that on average, the investment gained 1.5511% in value each year during the selected five-year period. Some years may have seen more growth and others less. But it smooths out to this rate when you look at the timeframe as a whole. Quick tip: There are many CAGR calculators available online but you can also use Microsoft Excel. The program's <a href="https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/xirr-function-de1242ec-6477-445b-b11b-a303ad9adc9d" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">XIRR function</a> will calculate CAGR, or you can input the following formula into a spreadsheet cell: =((V2/V1))^(1/t)-1. This can save a lot of time and get you a quick calculation, taking some of the legwork out of your research.<h2>How investors use CAGR </h2>One of the most common reasons investors use CAGR is to compare investments. Though you're not seeing the actual gains and losses from year to year, CAGR shows you how an investment has historically performed. You can use this information to learn about one or more investments, see how they measure up to one another, and make informed decisions about where you want to put your money. You can also use CAGR to track business performance as a result of measures a company takes, such as policy changes or new products introduced to market. It can also give you an idea of a business' strengths and weaknesses. For example, a CAGR that shows a steady decline over a number of years might indicate that internal or external issues are impacting profitability and the business is struggling to overcome them. <h2>Disadvantages of CAGR </h2><ul><li>CAGR doesn't tell you anything about an investment's risk. It's simply a measure of past performance. It doesn't account for varying degrees of risk that all investments are vulnerable to. If you want to determine the risk-return reward of an investment, you can use other calculations, such as Sharpe's Ratio and Treynor's Ratios, both of which adjust for risks that CAGR doesn't. </li><li>CAGR is a "smoothed" value, meaning it doesn't show the history of highs and lows an investment has seen. Growth is assumed to be constant throughout the given timeline, even though that's not necessarily the case. </li><li>CAGR can't predict how an investment will perform in the future. You can look at past performance and make a guess as to whether or not an investment is likely to continue that pattern of growth. But it is in no way a guarantee, no matter how steady growth has been in the past. In fact, Garza says the shorter the time frame used in your analysis, the less likely it will be that the expected CAGR performance will be repeated. </li><li>Representation of data can be limited when you're talking about CAGR because you're only looking at performance during a specific time frame. There can be a lack of context that skews interpretation of CAGR. For example, if you're looking at stock that was hit hard during a recession and experienced rapid growth in the years recovering from a significant loss, the CAGR is going to seem overly high. That rate of increase will most likely slow as the company levels out. </li></ul><h2>CAGR vs. internal rate of return (IRR)</h2>CAGR is a simplified, overall look at past performance. The internal rate of return (IRR) calculation takes more factors into consideration than starting and ending values over time. It looks at inflows and outflows of cash and multiple time periods. India clocks the highest growth rate in fixed broadband download speed

The traditional PCs market— which includes laptops as well as PCs — has seen a sudden but unsurprising boom during the pandemic. As per IDC’s data, in Q1 2021, the total PC shipment number was 83,981 over 54,123 units in the first three months of 2020. Gartner notes that it's the fastest growth trajectory it has observed in the PC market ever since it started to operate in 2000, and IDC says that the drop in shipment from Q4 2020 to Q1 2021 is the least it has seen since 2012. The numbers shared by Gartner do not include iPads, Chromebooks and similar. However, the category grew by triple digits in the first quarter compared to last year. Had it been added to the overall PC market, the growth would have been 47% year-over-year. The pandemic led to the rise in demand but also supply shortage PC shipments went up in 2020, thanks to the increase in demand for work from home and remote working due to the coronavirus pandemic. The rise in demand during 2020 hinted at an upward trend in the PC market. The PC market was among the few that benefited from the pandemic when the whole world was struggling. Research firm Canalys believes that the growth in Q1 2021 is also because of continued demand, which was not being met due to the shortage of semiconductor chips. In fact, both IDC and Gartner also believe that the growth could have been even higher if the market wasn't facing a silicon shortage. The chip shortage isn't limited to PCs. We've seen a shortage of stocks for gaming consoles, PC components and recent reports suggest even the new MacBooks and iPads production may delay due to the shortage. While the demand for PCs may increase in the coming months, the global chip shortage might benefit the upcoming quarters as and when the shipment gets on track. While analysts predict a good first half for the PC market in 2021, it remains to be seen how it goes amid the ongoing shortage of chips.
