As of 9:30 am, Nifty was trading at 24,562.85 up by 0.25%, while Sensex was up by 0.24% trading at 80,713.22 points. During early morning trade, <keyword id="19950207" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Tech" source="keywords">HCL Tech</keyword>, <keyword id="19963567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ultratech-cement" source="keywords">Ultratech cement</keyword>, <keyword id="22163816" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Ram-Finance" source="keywords">Shri Ram Finance</keyword>, <keyword id="19923397" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC" source="keywords">ONGC</keyword>, and <keyword id="19945574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro" source="keywords">Wipro</keyword> took the lead and were in greens, while <keyword id="20026009" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Paints" source="keywords">Asian Paints</keyword>, <keyword id="19950204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Steel" source="keywords">Tata Steel</keyword>, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Life and Hero Moto Corp were amongst the laggards. HCL Tech was up by more than 3%, while Ultratech cement and Shri Ram Finance inched up by over 1% each. As for broad market indices, all mid-cap and small-cap indices saw a weak start to the day, opening in red. India VIX saw a sharp spike, and was up by 4.06% during early trade. Amidst sectoral indices, Nifty realty dipped by over 1% during early trade, while financial services, FMCG, metal and private banks also registered a weak start. Angel One, HDFC AMC and HDFC Life are set to declare their Q1FY25 results during the day. As Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, "the index is in a strong uptrend and one should opt for buy on dips strategy. With the overbought conditions in the Auto sector, we recommend booking profits; however, selective buying can be seen in the ancillary space. We are bullish on ONGC and Reliance from the Energy space. The FMCG and IT sectors have given a breakout which indicates an extension of the current up-move. Keep an eye out for Colpal, Dabur, GodrejCP, ITC, Nestle-Tech Mahindra and Wipro. "We are bullish on the Pharma sector but it is approaching the higher end of the rising channel indicating a short-term reversal in the form of profit booking, however, the overall uptrend remains intact. Some stocks from the Textile segment have given a strong breakout namely Cantabil and Welspun Living", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities highlights that in the past week, the benchmark indices showed positive momentum, with the Nifty ending 0.73 percent higher and the Sensex gaining 522 points. The FMCG and IT sectors recorded strong momentum, both rallying over 3 percent. However, the Metal and Reality sectors experienced selling pressure despite the overall market momentum. "We believe that 24,400/80,100 and 24,350/79,800 would be crucial support levels for trend-following traders. On the higher side, 24,550-24,600/80,100-80,200 would serve as the resistance zone. A close above 24,650 could drive the market towards 24,900-25,000/81,000/81,300. Conversely, dropping below 24,350/79,800 could alter the sentiment, leading to a retest of the level of 24,150-24,100/79,500-79,100. The strategy should be reducing weak long positions between 24,550/24,600 levels. Buying is advisable around 24,250/24,200, with a stop loss at 24,100 on a closing basis. Our advice is to wait for a deeper correction before buying. Until then, focus on specific stocks", continues Chouhan.

Stock market 15th July: HCL Tech, Shri Ram Finance take lead in early trade as Nifty, Sensex open in green

Benchmark indices <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> and Sensex recovered from their losses last week to close in greens on Monday. While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

Sensex, and Nifty rebound to greens, metals and banks lead the rally on bourses today

All broad market indices closed the day in red. India VIX dipped 7.97%, and amidst sectoral indices, financial services and PSU banks dropped over 1% each at the close of day's trade. With the exception of FMCG, IT, media, metal and realty, which managed marginal gains, all other sectors closed in the reds. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares explains that although a strong opening reaching higher levels was seen in the opening trade; the index failed to hold its gains and gradually erased it. In the 2nd half of trading, selling pressure intensified, and the index wiped off all its gains to end the session at 23,992.55 with a loss of 63.05 points. "A mixed trend was seen across the board, where realty and IT were the top gainers, while PSU Banks corrected the most, followed by auto. From the broader markets, midcaps and small caps corrected by 0.61% &amp; 0.39% respectively, and underperformed the frontline index. The near-term outlook for Nifty50 turned bearish, unless it gives a convincing move above 24,400 while on the downside, 23,880 will be considered as immediate support", Gaggar continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities noted that while today, the markets opened higher due to positive Asian markets, they failed to sustain these levels and closed at the day's lowest point. "Although the market did not break the previous day's lows, it closed below the closing of the previous day. Apart from Nifty realty, metal, and IT, other indices closed in the red. Based on the short-term market structure, the trend-setting levels are 23,900/78,290. If the market falls below this, it may decline to 23,700 or 23,600/78,000-77,800, where it has support from retracements and long-term averages. It's advisable to consider selective buying around this level. On the upside, the major resistance levels are 24,150/79,000 and 24,400/79,700. It's recommended to reduce weak long positions around 24,300/24,400", he said. Rajesh Bhosale, Equity Technical Analyst, Angel One highlighted that the momentum favored the bears, and that the possibility of intermittent rebounds cannot be ruled out. "Therefore, any such bounces, similar to today, should ideally be viewed as selling opportunities. As for key levels, 24,250 appears to be immediate resistance, while the 24,350 - 24,400 range remains a challenging barrier for the bulls. Only a close above this range could potentially revive some positive momentum in the market. On the downside, immediate support is seen at 23,900 - 23,850, below which the Nifty may slip towards the 23,600 - 23,550 levels. Traders are advised to monitor these levels closely and adjust their trades accordingly, while also keeping an eye on global developments, as our markets are particularly influenced by global momentum", Bhosale continued. On the global front, oil prices rose by over 1% today, bouncing back from yesterday's losses, due to supply concerns stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict and strong U.S. services data. However, the fear of Iran retaliating against recent attacks in the region has increased fears of a broader war, threatening global supply stability and impacting oil forecasts. Furthermore, the US ISM Services PMI for July came in at 51.4, slightly above the month's forecast (51) and higher than June's reading (48.8). This is a positive sign, since it indicates a rebound in services sector, improvement in business activities, new orders and employment across industries like finance, healthcare and more. "With the Federal Reserve’s interest rate strategy under scrutiny, any positive US economic data could support the case for rate cuts", continued Chouhan. In response, global indices were seen trading in green. Nikkei 225 in particular, which had dropped around 12.4% yesterday, witnessing its worst crash since 1987, sharply rebounded about 3,217.04 points, or 10.23% to close at 34,675.46 points.

Only healthcare and pharma indices closed the day in green. <h2>What are the experts saying?</h2>Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that today, the markets traded under pressure and lost over a percent due to weak global cues. After a gap-down start, Nifty fluctuated within a range and eventually closed near the day's low. Most sectors mirrored the benchmark's decline, with realty, auto, and metal being the top losers. The broader indices also fell, each losing over half a percent. "Nifty struggled to surpass the hurdle at 25,100, and Friday's close suggests a potential further dip toward the immediate support zone around the 20-day EMA around 24,500 level. Besides earnings, participants are also taking cues from the global front, particularly the US, which has been experiencing significant volatility recently. Given this scenario, it is advisable to limit overnight leveraged positions and opt for hedged trades", he continued. Amol Athawale, VP-Technical Research, Kotak securities explained that today, our markets followed the trend of world equity markets, which closed with a massive drop in the last few days. They were down due to weak economy-related data as well as disappointing quarterly numbers. However, our markets held up relatively better than world markets, which fell by over 1.50%. Weekly, Nifty fell by 0.40%, while Sensex was down by 300 points. "Realty, auto, and IT fell by over 2% weekly, while the Nifty pharma index was up nominally. We saw particular buying interest in new-age companies after Zomato's Q1 numbers. Technically, the market managed to climb to new highs during the week. Nifty and Sensex achieved major milestones by crossing 25000 on the Nifty and 82000 on the Sensex. However, currently, most stocks and indices are close to important resistance levels, and we may see consolidation for a few days or weeks", said Athawale. "On an immediate basis, the market is finding support between 24,600/80,900 and 24,500/80,600 levels. On the other hand, until the market crosses 25,100/82,200, we may see a range-bound movement in the market. The strategy should be to buy selective stocks between 24,600 and 24,500/80,900 and 80,600 levels. A close below 24,500/80,600 may take the market towards 24,250/79,900 or 24,100/79,500 levels. Any bounce towards 24,900-25,000/81,700-82000 levels will be an opportunity to reduce long positions", he continued.

Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares says that Indian bourses began the August month on a strong note above the psychological barrier of 25,000. "But, negative divergence in RSI pulled the Index lower to settle the trade at 25,010.90 with gains of 59.75 points. Among the sectors, Energy was the top gainer while media and realty corrected the most. Broader markets underperformed the frontline index as mid and small caps corrected by 0.85% &amp; 0.98% respectively. The Index has formed a Spinning Top candlestick pattern which represents indecisiveness where the downside seems to be protected at 24,930 while the immediate resistance is placed at 25,100", he continued.

Most broad market indices on Nifty closed the day in green, with small cap and micro cap indices outperforming Nifty, gaining over 1% each. Amidst sectoral indices, bank, auto, financial services and private banks closed the day in red. On the other hand, media, metal, PSU banks and oil and gas indices gained over 1% each to close the day in green. <h2>Expert View</h2>Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares notes that Indian equities commenced the week on a strong note, but banking counters dragged the Index lower; however, <keyword id="19963566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-stocks" source="keywords">IT stocks</keyword> delivered support to the index to recover from the lower levels but in the absence of momentum, the index remained rangebound for the rest of the day and settled at 24,572.65 with gains of 31.50 points. "Among the sectors, metal was the top performer by advancing over 1.80% followed by energy; and on the flip side, auto and banknifty were the major laggards. A mixed activity was seen in the broader markets where midcaps more or less moved in tandem with the frontline index, while small caps outperformed. On the daily chart, the index has made a small red candle, but the overall uptrend is intact and as per the range breakout, the approximate target comes to 24,870 with the downside being protected at 24,420", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, head equity Research, Kotak Securities said that today, the benchmark indices witnessed lackluster activity. Nifty ends 31 points higher while the Sensex was down by 12 points. Among sectors, metal and oil and gas indices outperformed, both the indices rallied over 1.5%, whereas intraday profit booking were seen in selective auto stocks. "Technically, after a gap up opening market witnessed narrow range activity. We are of the view that, the larger market texture is still in to the positive side but fresh uptrend rally possible only after dismissal of 24,650/80,725 Above which market could move up till 24,725-24,775/81,000-81,200. On the flip side, below 24,520/80,330 the intraday selling pressure is likely to accelerate. Below the same, it could retest the level of 24,450-24,400/80,000-79,800", noted Chouhan. Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd, highlighted that the positive global cues and strong developments from the previous session resulted in a favorable start for our markets, but the subsequent buying was lacking in the benchmark index. The Nifty50 index remained within a narrow range of around 110 points, indicating tentativeness among the counterparties. Despite the hustles, the Nifty index had a modest positive start to the new week, closing above 24,570, with a slight gain of 0.13% "The market breadth clearly favoured the bulls, with their dominant performance in the advance-decline ratio reflecting a robust market undertone. However, the benchmark index stayed in a slender range, hovering within the bearish gap on the daily time frame chart. A decisive breakthrough is expected to have a significant impact on the momentum, providing a clearer picture of potential future market movements. "Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sustained their buying streak for the 12th consecutive session, acquiring USD 141 million worth of shares on Tuesday. Since June 7, FPIs have invested a total of USD 3.7 billion in Indian equities, buoyed by reduced policy uncertainty. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have also been active, purchasing USD 1.6 billion worth of shares in the same period," Varun Aggarwal MD, Profit Idea. "Gold and silver prices are declining due to the Federal Reserve's aggressive stance on maintaining higher interest rates, which increases US Treasury bond yields and limits precious metal gains. However, geopolitical tensions between Israel and Lebanon are supporting safe-haven demand," he added. Gold is trading between Rs 71,000 and Rs 71,800, awaiting a breakout to establish a new trend.

Mumbai, <keyword id="19896379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="benchmark" source="keywords">Benchmark</keyword> equity indices rebounded after two consecutive days of fall on Thursday with Sensex and Nifty touching their all-time high levels as investors rushed to value-buying in bellwether stocks ahead of quarterly result announcements amid mixed global trends. The 30-share BSE Sensex surged 497.06 points or 0.67 per cent to hit all-time high of 74,373.88. The <keyword id="19950205" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="keywords">NSE Nifty</keyword> climbed 144.70 points or 0.64 per cent to hit its fresh peak of 22,579.35. Both the indices had ended lower in the previous two sessions. Sensex recorded its previous peak on April 1 when it touched the intra-day high of 74,254.62. It had closed the session at 74,014. On the same day, Nifty also hit its peak closing level of 22,462. The 50-share benchmark had touched the intra-day high of 22,529.95. Among the Sensex constituents, 28 stocks were trading in green with HDFC Bank, <keyword id="19903558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ntpc" source="keywords">NTPC</keyword>, <keyword id="19990613" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="powergrid" source="keywords">PowerGrid</keyword>, <keyword id="19950204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-steel" source="keywords">Tata Steel</keyword>, and Axis Bank being the major gainers. According to V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services, global and domestic cues indicate that the market is likely to consolidate in the coming days and start responding to Q4 results as they start coming. So, Q4 results will be the next major trigger for the market from a sectoral and stock-specific perspective. "Market expects good results from autos, capital goods, telecom and select pharmaceuticals. Financials, too, will report good results despite some NIM compression and, therefore, are likely to be favoured by investors," he said. Asian markets were not trading. European markets ended Wednesday's session in green. The US markets closed with mixed note. S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq gained while Dow closed with a marginal loss. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,213.56 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.37 per cent to USD 88.68 a barrel. On Wednesday, the BSE benchmark Sensex declined by 27.09 points or 0.04 per cent to settle at 73,876.82. The NSE Nifty declined 18.65 points or 0.08 per cent to 22,434.65.

The 30-share BSE Sensex declined by 27.09 points or 0.04 per cent to settle at 73,876.82 in a volatile trade. During the day, the index oscillated between the high of 74,151.21 and the low of 73,757.23. The broader <keyword id="19950205" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="keywords">NSE Nifty</keyword> declined 18.65 points or 0.08 per cent to 22,434.65, with 30 components of the 50-share benchmark ending with losses. "Nifty remained volatile throughout the day after an initial weak start due to negative global cues," said <keyword id="20265404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupak-de" source="keywords">Rupak De</keyword>, Senior Technical Analyst, LKP Securities. He further said that the index may trend towards 22,650. "Support is positioned at 22,350 on the lower end." Among the Sensex constituents, as many as 16 stocks closed with losses with Nestle India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, <keyword id="20645400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajaj-finserve" source="keywords">Bajaj Finserve</keyword>, Titan and JSW Steel being the major laggards. Index major Reliance, Hindustan Unilever, Maruti and <keyword id="19950204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-steel" source="keywords">Tata Steel</keyword> also declined due to selling pressure. In contrast, NTPC, TCS, <keyword id="19924892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tech-mahindra" source="keywords">Tech Mahindra</keyword>, Bajaj Finance bucked the trend and ended the day in green. Axis Bank, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Tata Motors also defied the trend. "Market is focused on the US FED chair's speech, later today, for more hints. A statement in-line with the last policy is predicted to bring back a respite to the global market," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said. The Reserve Bank's rate-setting panel on Wednesday started its three-day deliberations on the next set of monetary policy amid expectations that the central bank would once again keep the key interest rate unchanged and focus more on inflation control as concerns over economic growth is abating. BSE MidCap rose 0.61 per cent, while smallcap index gained 1.18 per cent and largecap fell marginally by 0.05 per cent. Among sectoral indices, BSE Realty fell the most by 2.45 per cent, followed by auto sector benchmark which declined by 0.37 per cent. While FMCG sector index went down by 0.27 per cent, consumer durables slipped 0.23 per cent. On the other hand, utilities rose 1.45 per cent and power gained 1.20 per cent. The IT sector rose 0.78 per cent, teck climbed 0.73 per cent, while BSE Industrials and BSE Financial Services inched up by 0.48 per cent and 0.45 per cent, respectively. Oil and gas rose 0.43 per cent and bankex gained marginally by 0.07 per cent. Asian markets were trading in negative with Hong Kong's Hang Seng and Japan's Nikkei 225 losing sharply by 1.22 per cent and 0.97 per cent, respectively. China's Shanghai Composite was trading at a loss of 0.18 per cent. In European markets, CAC 40 of France and DAX of Germany were trading in the green, while London's FTSE 100 was losing. The US markets ended in red on Tuesday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 1,622.69 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.31 per cent to USD 88.20 a barrel. On Tuesday, the BSE benchmark Sensex declined by 110.64 points or 0.15 per cent to settle at 73,903.91. The NSE Nifty closed 8.70 points or 0.04 per cent lower at 22,453.30.
