India's energy consumption remained relatively stable at 141.3 billion units (BUs) in September 2024, according to government data. A steady monsoon boosted hydro and wind power generation, leading to reduced prices in the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and Real-Time Market (RTM). The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) witnessed robust growth, with volumes increasing 33% YoY to 4,610 MU in September 2024. Over the quarter, DAM registered 14,332 MU, a 27% increase compared to Q2FY24. Real-Time <keyword id="22699214" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electricity-market" source="keywords">Electricity Market</keyword> (RTM) achieved its highest-ever monthly volume of 3,913 MU, a 34% YoY rise. RTM's quarterly volume reached 10,732 MU, up 31% YoY. In contrast, the Day-Ahead Contingency and Term-Ahead Market (TAM) experienced a decline, trading 1,086 MU in September 2024 and 2,684 MU during Q2FY25, down by 43% and 42% YoY, respectively. IEX's Green Market, comprising the Green Day-Ahead Market (G-DAM) and Green Term-Ahead Market (G-TAM), recorded an extraordinary 214% YoY increase, trading 723 MU in September 2024. The quarterly total for the Green Market stood at 2,584 MU, a massive 246% YoY growth. The REC market achieved a milestone with 1,031 MU traded in September 2024, a 100% YoY increase. The clearing prices for the two trading sessions on 11th and 25th September were ₹112/REC and ₹110/REC, respectively, the lowest-ever price since the market's inception. Indian Energy Exchange records 24% growth in September 2024

Also, the company is set to build a ₹10,000-crore project portfolio by 2025. "With over 200 professionals and an order book of ₹3,500 crore, we are focused on delivering projects that meet the nation's energy needs and promote sustainability. Our upcoming IPO in 2025 will further strengthen our financial base, enabling us to scale our operations and invest in cutting-edge renewable technologies," said Sanjay Gupta, CEO, Apollo Green Energy. AGEL is a leading Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) company specializing in renewable energy, providing a range of solutions that includes utility-scale solar, energy storage systems, green hydrogen initiatives, and hybrid power. Operating in eight states, the company manages a diverse portfolio of projects, including 400 MW of solar installations. The company has been involved in the execution of Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions, a major contributor to pollution, in power generation. This project, valued at approximately Rs 700 crore, is nearing completion. "Currently, we are executing a large utility-scale solar project which requires different technical expertise, like we are doing 40 MW solar fixed tilt in Odisha, 50 MW floating solar project (first of its kind)in Kerala and 200 MW solar with tracker technology in Gujarat. While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

The offer, open for subscription between October 15th and 17th, largely saw muted demand from retail investors, who subscribed 0.5x to the issue. <keyword id="21713453" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QIBs" source="keywords">QIBs</keyword> (qualified institutional buyers), who made a thumping oversubscription of around 6.97x to the issue, swooped in on the last day to take its total subscription to around 2.37x, or 237%. After plunging to a negative Rs 32 on the day of the issue's close, it swung into the green a day after allotment but inched only up to a lowly Rs 5 on October 18th, 2024, i.e., on the day of allotment. As of October 21, 2024, the company's GMP was Rs 67, with the estimated listing price now at Rs 2,027, data from the IPO website Chittorgarh showed. The markets now anticipate a <keyword id="23032457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="listing-day" source="keywords">listing day</keyword> gain of about Rs 3.42% per share. Again, this is a dip from yesterday, when the company's GMP was at Rs 95, meaning that the markets were hoping for listing gains of about 4.85% per share. Hyundai's GMP peaked at Rs 570 on September 27, 2024, post which it continued to decline rapidly. On October 15th, 2024, when the issue opened for subscription, Hyundai Motor India's GMP was Rs 63. On October 17, 2024, i.e., on the day Hyundai's subscription was set to close, the GMP even dipped into negative, slipping beyond 0, indicating potential listing day losses for investors. Remember that GMPs are only indicative and not concrete indicators of the stock's performance on the listing day. As seen in this case, GMPs can swing wildly from day to day and should not be your sole factor in deciding whether you want to invest in a stock. While most experts have recommended subscribing to Hyundai Motor India's issue from a long-term viewpoint, short-term investors are likely to stay more cautious. This is because at a PE (price-to-earnings) valuation of 26x its potential FY25 earnings, Hyundai's PE is higher than even the industry's PE average, which currently stands at 24.41 times. Moreover, the PE of the Indian subsidiary of the South Korean automobile giant is higher than even that of its parent company, which is at 5x. That, combined with weak auto sales projected for the upcoming quarter, i.e., October to December 2024, may take away some sheen from the debut of the stock of the second-largest automobile seller in the country. Per experts at research advisory firm Master Capital Services Ltd, "Hyundai Motor India is the second-largest automobile manufacturer in India, holding a 15% market share. Despite some concerns regarding short-term listing gains due to subdued grey market premium, the company offers steady growth prospects amid industry tailwinds, robust financials and healthy SUV product demand. Hyundai’s leadership in India's passenger vehicle market, along with its strategic focus on electric vehicles, makes a compelling investment for long-term investors."

More than 12 companies will debut on the bourses in the next 2 months, looking to raise around Rs 60,000 crore in total. The biggest of the lot will be of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company, which is expected to raise Rs 25,000 crore, making it the largest-ever IPO in India to date. This record was previously held by LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India), which had raised about Rs 21,000 crore via its IPO in 2022. However, the automobile giant's issue will entirely be an OFS (Offer for Sale) of about 14,21,94,700 shares by Hyundai Motor Company, and will not have any fresh issue involved. Food and grocery delivery giant Swiggy is targeting to raise Rs 10,414 crore via a combination of fresh issue and OFS. The Rs 10,000-crore IPO of NTPC Green Energy is also set to come in the first week of November. Following them on heels will be the IPOs of construction firm Afcons Infrastructure, which will look to raise Rs 7,000 crore. Waaree Energies is expected to raise Rs 3,000 crores via its IPO. Additionally, Niva Bupa Health Insurance and One Mobikwik Systems are also planning to raise Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 700 crore, respectively. <h2>Positioning oneself in this IPO Euphoria </h2>So far in 2024, 62 companies have already raised Rs 64,000 crore collectively via mainboard, marking a 29% increase from Rs 49,436 crore, which were mopped up by 57 firms through the IPO route in 2023. More than 50 companies have already filed their draft papers, and are now awaiting market regulator SEBI's approval. IPO prospects for 2025 aren't looking dull either, with SEBI already approving 22 IPOs, which will collectively look to raise Rs 25,000 crore. Amidst this IPO frenzy, how can you position yourself in the best possible manner? Should you subscribe to an IPO for the long-term, or should you sell post earning listing gains? Per a recent SEBI study, which studied investor behavior over 144 IPOs listed on bourses between April 2021 and December 2023, if an IPOs listing returns exceeded 20%, investors are likely to sell around 67.6% of shares by value within just a week. On the contrary, if the returns were negative, only 23.3% of shares by value were sold off. Recently, NSE has capped the pre-opening price surge to 90% to discourage investors who are investing only for listing gains. However, this is applicable only for SME IPOs, and not mainboard ones", he continues. Reading the company's DRHP or RHP can be a good starting point to understand why the company wishes to raise funds in the first place. It can also help you understand its long-term objectives. Another good parameter is to check how its peers are performing in the markets, as compared to it. Also evaluate if the company have a steady track record of profitability and revenue growth. Check for the shareholding pattern of the company, pre and post IPO. Is there a fresh issue, or is the IPO entirely OFS (offer for sale), where promotors are offloading their stake in the company? While most IPOs are a mix of the two, heavy selloff of promoter stakes should be construed as a red sign.

Among sectoral indices on the National Stock Exchange, the Nifty PSU Bank index opened as the top gainer, with other indices also opening in the green. In the Nifty 50 list, 38 stocks opened with gains, 11 stocks declined, and 1 remained unchanged. "Nifty made a bounce back from expected support of 24750 and closed just above the 25,000 mark. With FIIs longs dropping further to 43%, Nifty may face resistance around the 25,100/25,150 range and any possibility of short covering can be expected above this range. Nifty, Sensex open in green, RBI policy announcement to drive markets today

Research Institute (<keyword id="20370739" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cmfri" source="keywords">CMFRI</keyword>) have successfully deciphered the genome of the <keyword id="23138296" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="asian-green-mussel" source="Orion">Asian green mussel</keyword> (Perna viridis), a discovery poised to revolutionise the understanding of this vital <keyword id="662896" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="marine-species" source="Orion">marine species</keyword>. This is the first-ever <keyword id="184804" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chromosome" source="Orion">chromosome</keyword> level genome sequencing of a marine invertebrate species from India. Earlier, CMFRI had come out with a similar genome finding for Indian oil sardine. The Asian green mussel, Kallummakkaya in local parlance, is an important aquaculture species in the family Mytilidae contributing substantially to molluscan aquaculture. CMFRI's research found that the mussel's genome contains 723.49 Mb in size and is anchored into 15 chromosomes, according to a CMFRI release here on Thursday. The research was published in the journal Scientific Data by Nature Group. "The development will be a game-changer in boosting sustainable mussel aquaculture in the country, as this research will help gain insights into its growth, reproduction and disease resistance", said Dr Grinson George, Director of CMFRI. The findings will benefit the aquaculture sector by improving genomic selection and breeding practices, leading to enhanced productivity and resilience in fisheries, he added. A team of researchers from CMFRI led by Principal Scientist Dr Sandhya Sukumaran carried out this study with funding support from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi. The team includes Dr A Gopalakrishnan, V G Vysakh, Dr Wilson Sebastian, Dr Lalitha Hari Dharani, Dr Akhilesh Pandey, Dr Abishek Kumar and Dr J K Jena. According to scientists, this will help develop new strategies to combat diseases in the mussel. "Genomic investigations on this species are vital to understand genes, gene combinations and signaling pathways leading to the parasitic diseases, which constitute a major threat to Asian green mussel aquaculture in India causing substantial mortalities in farms," said Dr Sandhya Sukumaran. According to the scientists, the genome assembly of green mussels will emerge as a valuable tool for exploring <keyword id="6355291" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cancer" source="Orion">cancer</keyword> mechanisms and developing new therapeutic strategies. "A total of 49654 protein-coding genes were identified, including 634 genes associated with the cancer pathway and 408 genes associated with viral carcinogenesis. This indicates that this species is a novel model organism for cancer research," Sukumaran said. This advancement promises to significantly enhance our understanding of cancer pathways and facilitate the discovery of novel treatments, she added. Apart from its aquaculture prospects, Asian green mussels play a vital role as a bio-monitor as it is capable of accumulating heavy metals and other environmental pollutants in large quantities. Understanding the genome assembly will provide valuable information about the genomic pathways involved in response to pollutants.
