<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> requires an investment support of USD 1.4 trillion — an average of USD 28 billion per year — to become a net-zero economy by 2070 and raising <keyword id="20260327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-resources" source="keywords">financial resources</keyword> for adaptation and mitigation action of this scale is an "unprecedented challenge", according to the <keyword id="20613906" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Economic-Survey" source="keywords">Economic Survey</keyword> 2023-24 tabled in Parliament on Monday. Reaching net zero means achieving a balance between greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of these gases removed from the atmosphere by either natural processes, such as photosynthesis, or by other methods of carbon capture and storage. The consolidated report on the state of the economy in the previous year said India's climate action has been largely financed through domestic resources and the flow of international finance has been "very limited". Citing the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) data, the report said bridging the "substantial funding gap" necessitates allocating 2.5 per cent of India's annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to <keyword id="20018880" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-finance" source="keywords">green finance</keyword>. "Preliminary estimates indicate that the aggregate investment support required by India to achieve its 2070 net-zero target will be USD 1.4 trillion at an average of USD 28 billion per year. Raising financial resources for <keyword id="19907392" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-change" source="keywords">climate change</keyword> adaptation and mitigation actions of this scale is an unprecedented challenge," the document read. A 2022 report by the Climate Policy Initiative found that domestic sources accounted for the majority of green finance in India, at 87 per cent and 83 per cent in financial years 2019 and 2020 respectively. While international sources are increasing (from 13 per cent in FY 2019 to 17 per cent in FY 2020), the economic survey said they are still insufficient to meet India's net-zero target. "Mobilising substantial capital from traditional sources presents multifaceted challenges in emerging economies like India. The perceived sovereign risks associated with emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs) and the capital-intensive nature of such projects, coupled with lengthy gestation periods and evolving regulatory frameworks, can create misalignment between investor expectations and project timelines," the government said. The economic survey also noted that the flows of global capital to <keyword id="20200084" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="developing-countries" source="keywords">developing countries</keyword> have been impeded by high costs of capital. Despite securing a good rating on its green-bond framework, Indian sovereign <keyword id="20177085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-bonds" source="keywords">green bonds</keyword> have hardly received any "greenium" from private investors. It is more a "wall of capital" than a "flood of capital" that is waiting to fund energy transition in EMDEs. It is just not mobile. All of these together have severely hampered the flow of finance for green-transition projects, the survey said. "Greenium" or green premium refers to the savings an issuer of a green bond realises on the associated coupon payment because the bond is green. Financial support to help middle-income and poor countries fight climate change will be at the centre of this year's UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the world will reach the deadline to agree on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) -- the new amount developed nations must mobilise every year starting 2025 to support climate action in developing countries. But achieving consensus will not be easy, given the disappointing progress made on major conflict points at the mid-year UN climate talks in Bonn, Germany. At the 2009 UN climate conference in Copenhagen, rich nations pledged to provide USD 100 billion annually from 2020 to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to climate change. However, delays in achieving this goal have eroded trust between developed and developing nations and have been a continual source of contention during annual climate negotiations. In May, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) claimed that developed countries had met the long-standing USD 100 billion-a-year promise by providing nearly USD 116 billion in <keyword id="20000757" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-finance" source="keywords">climate finance</keyword> to developing countries in 2022, with nearly 70 per cent of the money given in the form of loans. However, international non-profit organisation Oxfam last week said climate finance provided by rich countries in 2022 totalled no more than USD 35 billion. Developing nations argue that they cannot be expected to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions faster if developed countries -- historically responsible for climate change -- do not provide enhanced financial support. Rich countries are now expected to raise more than USD 100 billion, with developing countries, including India, demanding trillions of dollars to tackle climate change.

Raising massive financial resources for net-zero goal unprecedented challenge: Economic Survey

Markets regulator <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sebi" source="keywords">SEBI</keyword> has proposed expanding the <keyword id="22367248" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sustainable-finance-framework" source="keywords">sustainable finance framework</keyword> in the <keyword id="20922662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="securities-market" source="keywords">securities market</keyword> by introducing a new category of financial instruments. This category will include <keyword id="20518791" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Social-Bonds" source="keywords">social bonds</keyword>, <keyword id="22623575" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sustainable-Bonds" source="keywords">sustainable bonds</keyword>, and <keyword id="22623576" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sustainability-linked-Bonds" source="keywords">sustainability-linked bonds</keyword>, in addition to the current <keyword id="22819966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-debt-securities" source="keywords">green debt securities</keyword>. It aims to provide issuers with flexibility in raising funds for projects that align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives. In a consultation paper released on Friday, SEBI proposed that issuers, in addition to existing green debt securities, should be allowed to raise funds through issuance of social bonds, sustainable bonds, and sustainability-linked bonds. These bonds will collectively be known as ESG Debt Securities. This will enable issuers to raise money for more sustainable projects, assisting in closing the funding gap for the Sustainable Development Goals. SEBI said it received representations from market participants including the Confederation of Indian Industry to expand the scope of the regulatory framework pertaining to sustainable finance to include social bonds, in addition to existing green debt securities as a mode of raising sustainable finance, in line with global practices. As per the consultation paper, SEBI said, it "proposed to introduce the concept of sustainable securitised debt instruments for the purpose of providing originators of the underlying credit facilities which are within such international or domestic frameworks for sustainable finance, and thereby provide investors as well an opportunity to participate in the sustainable securitised debt instruments". The consultation paper also addressed the initial and continuous disclosures for sustainable securitised debt instruments that would be based on international frameworks. Initial disclosures could be made in the offer document for the securities, while continuous disclosures might be included in annual reports or other mandated formats. The markets watchdog also suggested that issuers of ESG debt securities and sustainable securitised debt instruments appoint an independent external reviewer or certifier, to facilitate transparency and credibility. The review could take various forms including, second-party opinions, verification, certification, or scoring/ rating. SEBI proposes expansion of sustainable financial framework in securities market

Mumbai: Indian stock markets rallied on Monday after the <keyword id="20032950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP-led-government" source="keywords">BJP-led government</keyword> secured a majority in the latest state elections in Maharashtra. The <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> index gained more than 1.45 per cent or 346.30 points to open at 24,253.55 points, while the BSE <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> index surged 1,076 points or 1.36 percent to open at 80,193.47 points. Experts noted that the election results have an impact on the markets today, and if past trends are followed, the markets may witness some rally amid the return of the BJP in the Maharashtra state elections. <keyword id="20161891" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajay-Bagga" source="keywords">Ajay Bagga</keyword> Banking and Market Expert stated that "The just concluded elections in Maharashtra, the results of which were declared on November 23rd, will have a positive immediate impact on the stock markets. In the Nifty 50 list, 49 stocks gained during the opening session, while only one stock declined. Shri Finance opened as the top gainer in the Nifty 50. The shares of the AdGroup also surged around 2 percent at the time of filing this report. <keyword id="19967296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Green" source="keywords">Adani Green</keyword> also climbed around 4 percent. "We are most likely to break the falling 20-day average that lies at 24,030, which will be the first time that'd happen since the record high of 27th September. Seasonality trends between now and the end of the year have been historically positive, with the Nifty rising 80% of the time during this period with an average return of over 4 per cent" Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research, Axis Securities. In other Asian markets, Japan and South Korea indices rallied. The Nikkei 225 index surged more than 1.5 percent, South Korea's Kospi also rose by 1.5 percent, Taiwan's Weighted Index was up by 0.48 percent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was down marginally by 0.14 percent at the time of filing this report.

Nifty, Sensex rallied around 1.5 % after Maharashtra election results, Experts noted short term rally

While Nifty closed the day at 24,572.65 points, inching up by 31.5 points, or 0.13%. On the other hand, Sensex dipped a mere 12.16 points to close the day at 80,424.68 points. On the other hand, Mahindra and Mahindra (down by 2.59%), Bajaj Auto (down by 1.17%), IndusInd Bank (down by 1.07%), Axis Bank (down by 1.02%) and SBI Life (down by 0.96%) were amidst the top laggards today. Out of the 2,838 stocks traded today on NSE, 1,975 stocks advanced while 758 saw declines, and another 105 remained unchanged. 160 stocks hit their 52-week high prices, while 17 stocks hit their 52-week low prices as well. 210 stocks remained in the upper circuit during the day, while 58 stocks hit the lower circuit as well. Most broad market indices on Nifty closed the day in green, with small cap and micro cap indices outperforming Nifty, gaining over 1% each. Amidst sectoral indices, bank, auto, financial services and private banks closed the day in red. On the other hand, media, metal, PSU banks and oil and gas indices gained over 1% each to close the day in green. <h2>Expert View</h2>Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares notes that Indian equities commenced the week on a strong note, but banking counters dragged the Index lower; however, <keyword id="19963566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-stocks" source="keywords">IT stocks</keyword> delivered support to the index to recover from the lower levels but in the absence of momentum, the index remained rangebound for the rest of the day and settled at 24,572.65 with gains of 31.50 points. "Among the sectors, metal was the top performer by advancing over 1.80% followed by energy; and on the flip side, auto and banknifty were the major laggards. A mixed activity was seen in the broader markets where midcaps more or less moved in tandem with the frontline index, while small caps outperformed. On the daily chart, the index has made a small red candle, but the overall uptrend is intact and as per the range breakout, the approximate target comes to 24,870 with the downside being protected at 24,420", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, head equity Research, Kotak Securities said that today, the benchmark indices witnessed lackluster activity. Nifty ends 31 points higher while the Sensex was down by 12 points. Among sectors, metal and oil and gas indices outperformed, both the indices rallied over 1.5%, whereas intraday profit booking were seen in selective auto stocks. "Technically, after a gap up opening market witnessed narrow range activity. We are of the view that, the larger market texture is still in to the positive side but fresh uptrend rally possible only after dismissal of 24,650/80,725 Above which market could move up till 24,725-24,775/81,000-81,200. On the flip side, below 24,520/80,330 the intraday selling pressure is likely to accelerate. Below the same, it could retest the level of 24,450-24,400/80,000-79,800", noted Chouhan. Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst - Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One Ltd, highlighted that the positive global cues and strong developments from the previous session resulted in a favorable start for our markets, but the subsequent buying was lacking in the benchmark index. The Nifty50 index remained within a narrow range of around 110 points, indicating tentativeness among the counterparties. Despite the hustles, the Nifty index had a modest positive start to the new week, closing above 24,570, with a slight gain of 0.13% "The market breadth clearly favoured the bulls, with their dominant performance in the advance-decline ratio reflecting a robust market undertone. However, the benchmark index stayed in a slender range, hovering within the bearish gap on the daily time frame chart. A decisive breakthrough is expected to have a significant impact on the momentum, providing a clearer picture of potential future market movements. Going forward, it will be crucial to closely monitor the banking index, as momentum in this sector could significantly boost market sentiments. In the absence of domestic triggers, it is important to be mindful of global developments as they are likely to influence market conditions", said Krishan.

Stock market closing: Nifty inches up marginally to close in green, Hindalco, BPCL take lead

Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares, defines the day's trade as lackluster. "Barring IT, all other sectors ended the day in green with PSU bank being the top gainer followed by media. Mid and small caps advanced over 0.50% and outperformed the frontline index. The downside seems to be protected at 24,400 while on the higher side level of 24,740 will serve as an immediate hurdle", he notes.

"Manufacturing must increase, India must also increase manufacturing with the help of policies, its share in manufacturing in global value chains. So we need to have greater sophistication in our product manufacturing and we also need to see how this can be given the best policy support" said the minister. During the event, the minister highlighted the IMF report which says, India's contribution to global growth will be 18 per cent over the next five years beginning in 2023. The minister also shared that the year 2023 to 2028 will be very dynamic for India's growth. "IMF estimated that India's contribution to the global growth for five years beginning 2023, will be 18 per cent, So between 2023 and 2028 we are looking at an India which will be dynamic contributing to 18 per cent to the global growth," said the minister. The minister also highlighted that India's growth story is a compelling growth story she quoted the S&amp;P global market intelligence outlook and shared about the growing consumer market in India. "The Indian consumer market is likely to double by 2031, there is 2.9 trillion-dollar opportunity in that. The report also suggests that consumer spending on food in India is estimated to rise to 1.4 trillion US dollars, again one trillion dollar opportunity lies in waiting" the minister added. Quoting the <keyword id="962573" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-report" source="Orion">S&amp;P report</keyword> the minister further adds that the opportunities in India's <keyword id="20682832" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-market" source="keywords">financial market</keyword> is great too "Spending on financial services will climb to 670 billion us dollars, there is 390 billion opportunity waiting for us. These are the opportunities that are untapped till now" Sitharaman said that according to the World Economic Forum projections 50 million net jobs will be created in India from <keyword id="19895435" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="green-energy" source="keywords">green energy</keyword> and it will ass USD 1 trillion to the economy of the country. So both corporate and financial sector balance sheets have not just turned around but are in pink to help. She added that the "twin balance sheet advantage is there for both the opportunity and confidence element that this situation gives us." During early morning trade, <keyword id="19950207" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Tech" source="keywords">HCL Tech</keyword>, <keyword id="19963567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ultratech-cement" source="keywords">Ultratech cement</keyword>, <keyword id="22163816" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Ram-Finance" source="keywords">Shri Ram Finance</keyword>, <keyword id="19923397" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC" source="keywords">ONGC</keyword>, and <keyword id="19945574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro" source="keywords">Wipro</keyword> took the lead and were in greens, while <keyword id="20026009" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Paints" source="keywords">Asian Paints</keyword>, <keyword id="19950204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Steel" source="keywords">Tata Steel</keyword>, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Life and Hero Moto Corp were amongst the laggards. HCL Tech was up by more than 3%, while Ultratech cement and Shri Ram Finance inched up by over 1% each. As for broad market indices, all mid-cap and small-cap indices saw a weak start to the day, opening in red. India VIX saw a sharp spike, and was up by 4.06% during early trade. Amidst sectoral indices, Nifty realty dipped by over 1% during early trade, while financial services, FMCG, metal and private banks also registered a weak start. Angel One, HDFC AMC and HDFC Life are set to declare their Q1FY25 results during the day. As Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, "the index is in a strong uptrend and one should opt for buy on dips strategy. With the overbought conditions in the Auto sector, we recommend booking profits; however, selective buying can be seen in the ancillary space. We are bullish on ONGC and Reliance from the Energy space. The FMCG and IT sectors have given a breakout which indicates an extension of the current up-move. Keep an eye out for Colpal, Dabur, GodrejCP, ITC, Nestle-Tech Mahindra and Wipro. "We are bullish on the Pharma sector but it is approaching the higher end of the rising channel indicating a short-term reversal in the form of profit booking, however, the overall uptrend remains intact. Some stocks from the Textile segment have given a strong breakout namely Cantabil and Welspun Living", he continued. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities highlights that in the past week, the benchmark indices showed positive momentum, with the Nifty ending 0.73 percent higher and the Sensex gaining 522 points. The FMCG and IT sectors recorded strong momentum, both rallying over 3 percent. However, the Metal and Reality sectors experienced selling pressure despite the overall market momentum. "We believe that 24,400/80,100 and 24,350/79,800 would be crucial support levels for trend-following traders. On the higher side, 24,550-24,600/80,100-80,200 would serve as the resistance zone. A close above 24,650 could drive the market towards 24,900-25,000/81,000/81,300. Conversely, dropping below 24,350/79,800 could alter the sentiment, leading to a retest of the level of 24,150-24,100/79,500-79,100. The strategy should be reducing weak long positions between 24,550/24,600 levels. Buying is advisable around 24,250/24,200, with a stop loss at 24,100 on a closing basis. Our advice is to wait for a deeper correction before buying. Until then, focus on specific stocks", continues Chouhan.
