Today, I'm going to walk you through how our artisan Chloe will restore this <keyword id="11280730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="grand-shopper-tote">Grand Shopper Tote</keyword> that has pen ink all over it. The <keyword id="118206" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="chanel">Chanel</keyword> Grand Shopper Tote reached around 2,000 pounds when it was able to be bought direct from Chanel. When this <keyword id="61642" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Restoration">restoration</keyword>'s complete, we would sell a Grand Shopper Tote for anywhere between 1,700 pounds and 1,950 pounds.The first thing that Chloe will do with this item is remove all of the ink. The most important part of restoring this bag will actually be the initial cleaning, because ink can spread and can create more staining. We use a special ink remover. So, you can see Chloe taking the ink remover with a small cotton bud and gently rolling this over the initial ink. This is so that we don't have any spreading, any further contamination of that ink to the bag. One of the main reasons for this is because ink is actually very oily, and oil and leather really don't mix. We then also use a range of products. Some are solvent-based, which will help to dry out any areas which have absorbed additional oils. And then we also use products which have natural oils embedded into them, which will then nourish areas that have dried, such as the corners or any areas where the ink has been drawn out of.We then use our specialist cleaning solution with the brush and a foam, which then will remove any excess product. Caviar skin leather is grained, so you need the brush to get into all of those grooves to be able to really make sure it's clean and make sure it's ready for the next stage of the process. Caviar leather, it gets its name from being a pebbled-texture leather, which means that it has printed into it this almost bubbled effect. If anything is trapped there or left in there, you would run the risk of that later peeling or coming away.Because it is ink that has contaminated this, the cleaning process alone will not remove this stain, and we must apply other methods. In our research and development team, we realized that ink stains, in particular, were very stubborn, so we created a metallic solution which actually blocks that coming through to make sure in a year's time you're not going to start seeing that ink stain come through. Chloe takes the specialist solution and she applies it lightly with an airbrush throughout every area where you can see the ink.Chloe will then create the color match, which we have discussed with the client in advance. This colorant, once created, will then be airbrushed on this bag. We always want to be as sparing as possible to ensure the texture of the leather is maintained. Because of the iconic CC quilting and the CC on the front of the item, which makes this item the iconic Chanel look, we want to make sure as little pigment gets onto those stitches as possible. And the bag is ready to go.

<ul><li>Business Insider India’s mystery shopper visited Mumbai’s Apple store on the very first day and compared it to the stores she visited in the US. </li><li>Most visitors came in groups, and a few even visited during office breaks. </li><li>Even with a large number of visitors, Apple Geniuses of all nationalities were welcoming visitors and giving demos. </li></ul>I am writing this article on a MacBook Pro — a product that was launched the year I was born, 2006. Since then, all Apple products be it iPods, iPads, iPhones or Apple TV have been a part of my life. I have been to an Apple store before too at New Haven in Connecticut, but my most memorable Apple store visit is the freshly launched one at Jio World Drive in BKC. Though I was a tad late to be welcomed by Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, the feeling of euphoria was still there. There was music playing, people were just as excited even at 12 noon — even in the heat while waiting in a queue. There were two singers belting out songs, performers dressed in colorful costumes dancing in front of a rapturous audience. I stood in the long line for half an hour to enter the store, the queue seemed to wind indefinitely reminding me of an airport security line. The Apple team was sending people inside in batches and as expected, people were lingering around soaking in the sights. However, the smiles on the faces of the people exiting the store with tote bags that had a customized Apple logo on them — made me feel that the wait was worth it. Mid-day summer’s heat Needless to say, the heat outside was palpable – over 36 degrees Celsius. But there was another kind of warmth around too. The Apple team was giving out water bottles to those battling the Mumbai sun. Around me were people of all ages, most of whom had come in groups, and there were some in office attire too. Ahead of me was a Punjabi-Canadian couple who were in Mumbai for a holiday. The die-hard Apple fans had penciled a Mumbai store visit into their itinerary, and were keen to buy products too but were worried that the prices here would be much higher than they would in Canada. Behind me was a father- son duo from Mumbai who shared that they had mainly just come for the experience, but would consider buying a pair of Air pods. I was extremely interested to learn that this BKC store is one of Apple’s most sustainable outlets so far. It runs completely on renewable energy and is operationally carbon neutral. It seems to be a part of Apple’s journey towards carbon neutrality. As I stepped inside, Apple staff of different nationalities were standing at the door, welcoming us customers effusively. Although the store was teeming with customers, there were enough Apple Geniuses to guide and interact with each individual. One of the Geniuses told me that they were pleasantly surprised by the magnitude of the crowd. Another Genius who had been working with Apple for two years, said that she had anticipated it. The store was choc-a-bloc but there were many Geniuses all ready to answer questions and help make a purchase. Most visitors were exploring the different features of iphones, Macbooks and ipads. I, personally, was in awe of the variety of accessories on display, especially Apple Watch Straps. I enjoyed watching the interactive session being conducted by a genius and also trying out the noise canceling headphones at the Apple Arcade session. Most first-day visitors were lining up to buy accessories, but the store staff said that many laptops and phones flew off the shelves as well. This store seemed exceptional not just because it is the first in India but even in comparison to others the Mumbai store stands out. The store in New Haven, Connecticut, a much smaller structure, was a far less memorable visit. The staff here was much friendlier and more affable. The impressiveness of Apple BKC is far more akin to that of the Marina Bay Sands Apple Store, a spherical structure sitting on the water. Some other stores which I haven’t visited but seem mind-blowing are the Apple Tower Theatre in Los Angeles, USA and the Apple Piazza Liberty store in Milan, Italy. The Apple store in Dubai Mall has a falcon -themed design, with solar wings resembling the movement of the bird opening. The store in Fifth Avenue in New York, an all-night retail store also known as the ‘Cube’ which has a spiral staircase leading to a grand hall below the plaza where it is located. The multilevel Regent Street Store in London, England not only has the longest custom made luminous ceilings panels in the world but is also listed as a historical façade. Handbags are built around what we call stays.This is what happens when the stays break down.So, you get a bag that looks sloppy.So what you do is you put this behind the different sections of the leather, and you would align the front and the back.Now you would have a skeleton, something to hold the bag up.I would have preferred to be able to save the pocket, but in this case, we really had to replace the pocket. It was burned all the way through.I have to get this side open to be able to stitch in the new pocket that I'm gonna make properly.The most challenging part of this job will be making sure that the quilting that I add to the new pocket matches the quilting seams in the bag itself.So, as far as cleaning, it depends on what kind of leather you're cleaning.The blue is a waterborne leather soap.You could use that over the whole bag.It's not gonna do anything to damage the bag at all, but the other two are solvents.So you don't wanna use solvents on leather unless you absolutely have to for things that a waterborne product wouldn't remove, like dye transfer or ink.In taking the ink out, you're gonna wind up also taking some of the color out.The first thing we do is cut a pattern.So, you find the right leather, the exact leather the bag was made out of, and you just replace the pieces that you can.We've seen, you know, angry boyfriends cut bags with razor blades.I mean, there's things that happen all the time.I've got all the stays in the bag, and I have the bag structurally sound.A skill unto itself is restitching in the original stitch holes.You don't wanna create new holes and leave vacant holes.So, you take the pigments for the Chanel beige caviar.We use the white.We use the oxide, which is like a gol dish, yellowish color.We use, like, a medium brown.The syringe just forces you to use just a little bit.Now I'm ready to get started airbrushing the color.The idea is to use as little application as possible, so you could come back and do it over and over again and keep the bag looking good without having the texture suffer.You cut the leather twice as wide as you want the final product to be.You fold it to center, and then you fold it one more time, and then you stitch it.Chanel has a very specific way of carrying.So, they use interlaced leather chains."It's a beautiful thing.They've been doing this for years and years.I think that we have a circular economy.It gives somebody that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to carry a bag if they were to have to buy it retail a chance to buy it in the secondary market, and have us restore it, and be able to carry it until they're ready to pass it on to somebody else.There is no reason why that bag can't last forever, really.There's definitely a sentimental attachment to handbags, especially ones that are passed on.They're boxes of history really, the handbags.
