As the deadline for the submission of binding bids approaches, the bidders of <keyword id="6360090" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="reliance-capital" source="Orion">Reliance Capital</keyword>, including Hinduja, Torrent, Zurich, and Piramal have flagged off various legal issues to the lenders and Administrator, involving Reliance Capital and its subsidiaries.<br /><br />These legal issues involve a cumulative liability of Rs 22,000 crore, and they need quick resolution for the successful closure of RCAP's resolution plan.<br /><br />According to sources, the bidders are likely to make a condition precedent of these issues to any payment to the lenders.<br /><br />The two big issues flagged off by the bidders are the impending resolution of <keyword id="3649632" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-home-finance-ltd" source="Orion">Reliance Home Finance Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="1590678" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rhfl" source="Orion">RHFL</keyword>) and the legal battle between the Administrator and IDBI Trusteeship for the control of <keyword id="157626" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-general-insurance" source="Orion">Reliance General Insurance</keyword>'s shares, which is pending in the NCLT.<br /><br />Authum Investment and Infrastructure Ltd had been selected as the successful bidder for RHFL in June 2021, but the resolution process has not yet been completed due to various litigation involving the debenture holders. The total debt of RHFL is Rs 11,500 crore.<br /><br />As far as Reliance General Insurance is concerned, the Independent actuarial <keyword id="5413795" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tower-watson" source="Orion">Tower Watson</keyword> has valued this business at Rs 9,500 crore.<br /><br />Apart from these, the two other legal cases flagged off by the bidders are Axis Bank's claim of Rs 150 crore against Reliance Capital, which the bank has lost in the NCLT, and a case involving Administrator and IndusInd Bank, involving arbitration of Nippon Asset Management shares. The total liability in this matter is Rs 650 crore.<br /><br />The last date for submitting binding bids is November 28.<br /><br />The quick resolution of these legal matters is a challenge for the Administrator for the successful closure of the RCAP resolution plan.<br /><br />Reliance Capital had received 14 non-binding bids for its multiple businesses. Reliance Capital bidders flag off multiple legal issues involving Rs 20,000 crore liability

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Companies that spend millions of dollars on <keyword id="11940261" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="air-travel" source="Orion">air travel</keyword> are given incredible perks from <keyword id="11898285" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="airlines" source="Orion">airlines</keyword>.</li><li>One such perk is top-tier frequent flyer status that comes with free upgrades, lounge access, and chauffeurs.</li></ul><p>Loyalty has its perks, especially when loyalty means spending hundreds of millions of dollars on airline tickets every year.</p><p>Business <keyword id="11896628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="travel" source="Orion">travel</keyword> is a leading revenue source for airlines and the top corporate spenders are frequently given extra benefits in exchange for their continued business. Some of the perks go way beyond what even the most frequent individual traveler could ever hope to receive.</p><p>Tech companies are among the top spenders on airline travel given as Big Tech giants have offices and facilities around the world. China, for example, is a top destination for Silicon Valley-based firms like Apple.</p><p>United Airlines, in 2018, revealed that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-buys-50-seats-on-flights-to-shanghai-china-a-day-united-sign-2019-1">Apple was buying 50 business class seats every day on flights to Shanghai, China</a>. Apple's business with United at the time was worth more than $150 million in revenue.</p><p>Airlines, however, lost a big chunk of that revenue during the pandemic as international borders started to close in January 2020. Cost-minded leisure travelers tend not to spend as much as business flyers and are less likely to pay for premium cabin travel or costly last-minute fares when vacationing. </p><p>When big business does return to the skies, these are the perks that will likely await them.</p><h2>Expedited access to elite status</h2><div type="image" title="Delta Silver Medallion" height="419" width="559" msid="88093714" hostid="261"></div><p>Employees that travel enough will often earn elite status with an airline that gives them extra privileges when <keyword id="11896631" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="flying" source="Orion">flying</keyword>. </p><p>"The basic idea is you get to bypass a lot of the hassles," Brett Snyder, founder of the <keyword id="12018329" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="aviation" source="Orion">aviation</keyword> blog CrankyFlyer, told Insider. </p><p>Acquiring elite status requires loyalty to a particular airline to the tune of a few thousand dollars in purchased tickets and tens of thousands of miles flown. But airlines can also offer elite status memberships to corporate travelers as a "sweetener" in a contract even before the first flight, Snyder said.</p><p>Most of the perks will come from having that elite status but airlines can still go above and beyond for top corporate clients. </p><h2>Dedicated check-in lanes</h2><div type="image" title="Delta Elite Status Day Trip" height="1225" width="1633" msid="88093716" hostid="261"></div><p>For some companies, spending millions of dollars on travel means never having to wait in line at certain airports. At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, for example, Delta Air Lines has <a href="https://twitter.com/lexnfx/status/1422970127381786626/photo/1">dedicated check-in desks for Amazon and Microsoft employees</a>. </p><p>While check-in counters are becoming obsolete given improvements to self-serve kiosks and airline mobile applications, employees can use them to quickly check their bags or have airline staff assist with any flight issues. </p><p>The scheme isn't replicated at every Delta airport for Microsoft and Amazon employees but they will still likely have access to priority check-in areas. Business travelers often earn elite status on the airlines they frequent and can often use priority check-in lanes as a result, especially when traveling in a premium cabin, as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/delta-elite-status-worth-getting-free-upgrades-first-class-2020-2#despite-having-elite-status-with-delta-i-wasnt-able-to-access-any-of-the-airlines-check-in-areas-dedicated-to-elites-as-i-was-too-low-in-the-status-hierarchy-keep-in-mind-to-even-get-silver-medallion-status-flyers-must-spend-3000-and-fly-25000-miles-or-30-flights-on-delta-or-some-partner-airlines-16">Insider found when testing out the lowest tier of Delta's elite status</a>. </p><p>Some US airlines have private check-in areas altogether for elite status holders and premium cabin travelers, away from the main check-in desks, such as Delta's Sky Priority check-in area at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.</p><h2>Access to invite-only programs</h2><div type="image" title="American Airlines JFK Airport Lounge" height="1666" width="2223" msid="88093719" hostid="261"></div><p>While elite status is a common perk of frequent business travel, the highest echelons of those programs are reserved for an airline's top spenders. Attaining membership in the unlisted programs is the dream of any frequent traveler and top corporate clients may be given an allotment of memberships for their top travelers. </p><p>American Airlines has ConciergeKey, United Airlines has Global Services, and Delta Air Lines has 360°.</p><p>"These are highly coveted programs, there's a mystery to them," Henry Harteveldt, a travel analyst and president of Atmosphere Research Group, told Insider.</p><p>Even if a member of these programs purchases the cheapest economy ticket on a given flight, they will still reap the benefits of complimentary lounge access, priority check-in lanes, early boarding, and a host of other secretive amenities that airlines won't discuss publicly. </p><p>Airlines have different requirements for who is invited into their programs and limits on the number of memberships they can distribute each year, according to Harteveldt. Companies seeking to get memberships for their flyers would have to spend a significant amount on yearly air travel, with spend requirements varying from city to city. </p><p>"Delta 360° is an annual, invitation-only program for our top SkyMiles Members, offering an exclusive suite of benefits and services even beyond Diamond Medallion Status," Delta writes on its <a href="https://www.delta.com/us/en/skymiles/medallion-program/million-miler">website</a>. "An invitation into Delta 360° is based on your overall investment with Delta. If you're selected to join, we'll contact you directly."</p><p>A certain number of memberships are then given to corporate travel managers to distribute to employees, Harteveldt explained, with airlines being incredibly mindful of how many are allocated.</p><h2>Lounge access</h2><div type="image" title="American Airlines JFK Airport Lounge" height="1875" width="2500" msid="88093721" hostid="261"></div><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/visiting-airport-lounges-during-pandemic-american-united-delta-2020-11">Airline lounges are exclusive hideaways</a> that offer private and comfortable seating when waiting for a flight, as well as complimentary snacks, beverages, and food items. Corporate customers flying internationally in business class will often have access to these lounges included in their tickets. </p><p>Airlines will also give complimentary lounge memberships to their most frequent flyers. On American, for example, executive platinum status holders can choose to receive an Admirals Club membership as one of their free perks.</p><p>ConciergeKey, Global Services, and Delta 360° members also receive complimentary lounge access for their respective airlines, according to, Harteveldt, <a href="https://upgradedpoints.com/travel/airlines/delta-360-status/">Upgraded Points</a>, and <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/travel/article/United-perks-Global-Services-SFO-15464526.php">SFGate</a>. </p><h2>Airside transfers in a luxury Porsche, General Motors, or Mercedes Benz vehicles</h2><div type="image" title="American Airlines ConciergeKey chaueffer" height="2605" width="3473" msid="88093723" hostid="261"></div><p>Members of the ConciergeKey, Global Services, and Delta 360° programs need not worry about running from one flight to another when passing through an airline hub with a tight connection. Airlines may also be more accommodating to passengers on delayed flights by holding their connections, Harteveldt said, depending on the customer and corporate client. </p><h2>Priority Boarding</h2><div type="image" title="Flying on American Airlines during pandemic" height="1666" width="2223" msid="88093725" hostid="261"></div><p>Elite status holders are often among the first passengers to board a flight, whether they're seated in a premium cabin or not. ConciergeKey members, for example, can board ahead of first class customers and active duty military members even if they've booked a basic economy ticket, according to American's <a href="https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/boarding-process.jsp">boarding priority list</a>.</p><p>Early boarding gives flyers first pick at overhead bin space and more time to get settled before the rest of the plane boards.  </p><h2>Better opportunities for first class upgrades</h2><div type="image" title="Delta One First Class Los Angeles to New York" height="2249" width="3000" msid="88093727" hostid="261"></div><p>Complimentary upgrades to first class are among the most valuable perks for an elite status holder. A single <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flying-with-delta-medallion-elite-status-in-2021-during-pandemic-2021-3">upgrade can be worth more than the price of a ticket</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/delta-first-class-upgrades-easier-no-middle-seat-block-2021-5">instantly elevate a travel experience</a>, especially on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flying-delta-one-new-york-los-angeles-during-pandemic-2021-3">longer flights</a>. </p><p>In many frequent flyer programs, any elite status holder can request an upgrade and they'll accommodate if there is a seat available. But oftentimes, there ends up being people that don't make the cut because there <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/delta-first-class-upgrades-easier-no-middle-seat-block-2021-5">aren't enough seats available for all elite status holders</a>. </p><p>Corporate travelers, however, have a better shot at upgrades because airlines consider a variety of factors when determining who to upgrade. The level of elite status and how much a traveler's company spends with the airline in a given year are also taken into consideration. </p><p>"Generally, if you have all things being equal, the person who works for a large corporate account that may have a major business relationship with an airline would likely get the nod for the upgrade ahead of the person who is an individual traveler," Harteveldt said. </p><p>An airline also might give a certain number of upgrade coupons to a corporate client that can be used to get a premium cabin seat, Harteveldt added. </p><h2>Drink coupons and free snacks</h2><div type="image" title="Delta One First Class Los Angeles to New York" height="2249" width="3000" msid="88093730" hostid="261"></div><p>Not all of what corporate clients get are grand gestures, however, and sometimes a free drink can make the difference. Coupons for a complimentary alcoholic beverage are sometimes included in a corporate contract, according to Harteveldt, and offered on certain fares geared towards business travelers.</p><p>Airlines like Delta and American also offer complimentary alcoholic beverages in their extra legroom sections, which companies may be willing to purchase for their employees. Southwest Airlines' "<a href="https://www.southwest.com/html/air/products/business-select.html">Business Select</a>" fare also comes with a free drink coupon.</p><p>Some US airlines aren't currently offering alcohol in regular economy sections until the pandemic subsides but the perk will likely return. </p><p>Some airlines also might offer complimentary meals or snacks to corporate flyers even if they're sitting in economy on domestic flights. Travelers can find themselves waiting on hold for hours.</p><p>Elite status holders, however, have special phone numbers to use when calling the reservations desk with shorter hold times, and corporate travelers with elite status can also use them. Some companies were so important to airlines, however, that special phone lines were created just for their employees. </p><p>"In the past, some airlines would create basically special toll-free numbers for their largest corporate accounts where the employees would call in and get a dedicated sub-group of agents within a reservations office so that they were served faster," Harteveldt said. </p><p>Harteveldt noted that the perk likely doesn't exist anymore and those phone lines have been merged into the dedicated lines for top frequent flyers. "If you put somebody into the higher tiers of a frequent flyer program, they're going to get expedited service anyway," he said. </p><p>Travel agents, however, including those with corporate accounts, still have lines to many airline reservation desks, Snyder said. "It's for the travel planners, the people that are doing the work," he said. </p><h2>Free or discounted extra legroom seats</h2><div type="image" title="Delta Elite Status Day Trip" height="1333" width="1778" msid="88093736" hostid="261"></div><p>Not all companies pay to fly their employees in a premium cabin on every flight but airlines can help make the economy experience more enjoyable by offering favorable rates on extra legroom seats, according to Harteveldt. Delta's "Comfort+" seats, for example, offer extra legroom as well as complimentary alcohol and premium snacks. </p><p>Some airlines also offer complimentary upgrades into extra legroom sections for their elite status holders. </p><p>Airlines also block certain regular economy seats that don't offer extra legroom but have a more preferable location in the cabin. Snyder says that corporate clients may be given advance access to those seats ahead of the public. </p><h2>Waived checked bag fees</h2><div type="image" title="United Check In" height="1332" width="1776" msid="88093739" hostid="261"></div><p>A basic perk of earning elite status is getting a complimentary checked baggage allowance, which can save travelers and their companies money when a trip requires checked baggage. Companies may also be able to negotiate lower fees for checked baggage, Harteveldt said. </p><h2>More flexibility for corporate travelers</h2><div type="image" title="Trapped in Airport Terminal" height="1875" width="2500" msid="88093741" hostid="261"></div><p>Many US airlines have abandoned change fees for domestic flights but tickets can still be restrictive. The nature of corporate travel, however, requires additional leeway that airlines are willing to give to high-spending clients. </p><p>"You get much more flexibility as a corporate [client]," Snyder said, noting that some airlines have a system for clients where points can be redeemed for perks. Common perks include things like name changes on tickets, flight changes, and converting non-refundable tickets into refundable tickets. </p>

He was shy and just standing in the corner," Saucedo told Insider earlier this year.</p><p>"Coming from Mexico, I knew he was going to be a good fighter. A lot of Mexicans just love to fight. It's in our blood. But, to be honest, I never thought Canelo was going to be this big. I never knew he was going to become the king."</p><p>Saucedo wasn't alone in that thinking.</p><h2>Canelo is bucking a trend that Mexicans compete best in lower weight classes</h2><div type="image" title="Eddy Reynoso manages and trains Saul Alvarez in San Diego." height="1333" width="2000" msid="91385869" hostid="261"></div><p><keyword id="13181953" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="eddy-reynoso" source="Orion">Eddy Reynoso</keyword> walked into the ballroom at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Wednesday, and reporters mobbed the two-time BWAA trainer of the year.</p><p>He's become a modern-day Freddie Roach, the boxing coach whose popularity soared alongside his pupil Manny Pacquiao's, as they dominated much of the 2000s and 2010s.</p><p>Reynoso's fame has grown drastically in Southern California and in his native Mexico. "Everybody knows me because I've always done my part" with Canelo, he told Insider and other reporters.</p><p>Roach always maintained that his life changed forever when Pacquiao walked into his Wildcard Boxing Club in Hollywood for the very first time.</p><p>The way Reynoso tells it, things will never be the same for him, either. "Life has changed a lot" because of Canelo, he said.</p><p>"I am always in charge of the camp and, to make sure that things are done, I deprive myself of a lot of things. You miss your daughter's graduations. Soccer finals. Parties that I could go to.</p><p>"I can't do that because I have to be in camp — but that's the price you pay to do things right."</p><p>Reynoso knows Canelo better than most. It's a relationship that is almost 20 years old. "He still maintains the desire and the will to do something with his life," Reynoso said.</p><p>"He's always been very disciplined and he obeys whatever I tell him to do.... He's still the same guy that I met when he was 13."</p><p>Even Reynoso wasn't sure Canelo would scale boxing's summit as quickly as he has.</p><p>It wasn't because of a lack of talent but because top-tier Mexican fighters like Erik Morales, Juan Manual Marquez, and Marco Antonio Barrera, typically achieved fame competing below welterweight.</p><p>Canelo had to buck that trend as he started his career at welterweight and was always likely to grow into a middleweight and beyond.</p><p>"I thought it was a little complicated because as Mexicans you don't think that you're gonna be successful in the higher weight divisions like welterweight and up," said Reynoso.</p><p>"But I knew that I had a good welterweight with a lot of talent, and as his career evolved I could see that he was going to make it big, and I had so much faith.</p><p>"This is the result of that," he said. "He is perhaps the greatest athlete in Mexico."</p><h2>Canelo's mentality sets him apart from his peers</h2><div type="image" title="Eddie Hearn represents Saul Alvarez under the Matchroom brand." height="1499" width="1998" msid="91385871" hostid="261"></div><p>The sun pierces through the windows of Eddie Hearn's $1,500 per night suite at the SkyLofts inside MGM Grand, where he holds court with Insider just days before another big fight event for his company.</p><p>Hearn's firm Matchroom is in the middle of running back-to-back weekend shows in the US, as Canelo vs. Bivol in Las Vegas follows Katie Taylor's big win over Amanda Serrano in New York City.</p><p>Hearn and Canelo appear to have a cute relationship. Public displays of affection have been common for this power couple, as they can't help but cuddle one another when they're on a stage.</p><p>Both Matchroom and its broadcast partner DAZN have openly said that Canelo is integral to their business plan so it is little wonder they love boxing's No.1 fighter so much.</p><p>Hearn sent text messages and emails while talking to us, but thinking of Canelo broke his fixation with his phone as he drifted off with a smile on his face while recalling Tuesday's arrivals.</p><p>A loud, fun mariachi band welcomed Canelo and his Saturday opponent — the WBA world light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol — to the MGM Grand, ahead of their 175-pound ruckus at the nearby T-Mobile Arena.</p><p>As Hearn greeted Canelo on the stage, he asked him: "You ready?"</p><p>Canelo calmly said: "Oh yeah, Eddie," while playfully shadow-boxing.</p><p>Speaking later to Insider, Hearn said: "With his confidence in fighting … I've never seen anything like it. And that's part of his greatness."</p><p>Saucedo, speaking to Insider six weeks ago from his Westside Boxing Club, said Canelo's mentality separates him from other fighters.</p><p>"He's just different," Saucedo said.</p><p>Canelo's competed in 60 professional fights. According to Reynoso, though, it's more like 70 but a commission in Mexico said they're not on his record. Reynoso said they were hard four- to eight-rounders. "He won some by knockout, but others were tough," he said.</p><p>Canelo has lost just once so far — a 2013 defeat to Floyd Mayweather which elevated Canelo's fame because of the transcendent nature of the fight. It wasn't just a big boxing show, it was a <keyword id="11893855" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sports" source="Orion">sports</keyword> event that captivated millions of people around the world.</p><p>"He learned from the Mayweather fight," Saucedo told Insider. "I didn't think that was a good choice. I was talking to Chepo Reynoso, Eddy's father, and they said it was a good opportunity money-wise.</p><p>"They offered him the fight before but for less money." They took the bout when the financials improved, he said.</p><p>"The result went in Mayweather's favor. But I think he also learned a lot mentally."</p><p>Saucedo added: "A lot of us guys … we just talk. But with Canelo, if you talk to him, he chooses his words. He thinks before he speaks."</p><h2>Canelo is hilarious, according to those close to him</h2><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's personality has begun to shine through to more people." height="1333" width="2000" msid="91385873" hostid="261"></div><p>Canelo may have long been confident that his skillset as a fighter would take him to the highest echelons of world boxing.</p><p>But he was self-conscious when it came to other aspects of his life, particularly when it came to talking with English speakers in their native tongue.</p><p>"When he came here to Westside he could talk a little in English, the basics," said Saucedo. "But he said he didn't want to because he was ashamed, and that people might laugh at him.</p><p>"But I told him, 'Just look at me.' I came to America when I was 16, and learned the language not perfectly, but I can have a conversation. And that was one of the things we'd talk about outside the ring. Now, look at him."</p><p>Hearn has observed an "unbelievable" evolution in Canelo as his personality now shines through to more people.</p><p>"You should never look to change the personality of a fighter," Hearn told us. "You just expose it to people, right? It doesn't matter what that personality is … could be boring or could be a nutter. But let people see it.</p><p>"And when I signed Canelo, and after a little bit of socializing with him, I quickly realized that he was hilarious, likes horses, and loves golf. His energy is incredible."</p><p>Hearn told him during one of many behind-the-scenes conversations, "Canelo, you have to speak English."</p><p>According to Hearn, Canelo replied: "No … I'm not confident."</p><p>It seems multiple people in the fighter's orbit encouraged him to speak in English as well as Spanish so that more fans, and media, could see his personality in action.</p><p>As soon as he did that, Hearn said, it "changed his profile globally."</p><p>The 42-year-old added: "His stock has gone through the roof just by being himself. He's such an incredible character, got more money than God, more titles than anyone could ever dream of, but he's still hungrier than ever. Unbelievable."</p><h2>Canelo has been cracking jokes this week</h2><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has only been out-shined on-stage by his daughter Maria Fernanda." height="1500" width="2000" msid="91385875" hostid="261"></div><p>Using profanity as humor can go one of two ways. Done wrong and it could make the audience cringe. When Canelo drops an f-bomb, though, he always seems to make it work.</p><p>He swears in Spanish, frequently telling Hearn: "Viva Mexico, cabrones!"</p><p>According to Hearn, it's quite rude. "It means bastard, I think."</p><p>Canelo and his team "use it all the time," Hearn said.</p><p>Speaking to Insider and other reporters inside the ballroom at the MGM Grand, Canelo spoke about his love for golf.</p><p>Canelo previously told Insider, in an exclusive interview arranged by the fighter's sponsor Hennessy, that he plays to a handicap of +10. He said he loves the sun, playing golf tournaments, and being with his wife and family.</p><p>He plays golf as often as he can. He's fooled around with NBA sharpshooter Steph Curry on a course last year, <a href="https://www.insider.com/saul-alvarez-says-golfer-brooks-koepka-could-be-good-boxer-2022-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">and almost scored a hole-in-one at Pebble Beach's iconic par-3 17th</a>.</p><p>One reporter asked him if he'd ever consider leaving boxing to join the PGA Tour. He seemed bemused at the concept. "It's difficult to do," he said. "Golf is fucking hard."</p><p>On whether he ever gets frustrated while karting around a course, he said: "Really mad — yeah! I almost throw my fucking clubs."</p><p>Should Canelo beat Bivol this weekend, a trilogy bout against his historic rival Gennadiy Golovkin could await for another big Las Vegas event in September.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/gennadiy-golovkin-and-saul-canelo-alvarez-personal-boxing-rivalry-2022-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Insider has previously reported about how it's a deeply personal rivalry</a>.</p><p>Speaking to Insider and other reporters this week, Canelo agreed. "It is" personal, he said. "It's just a simple rule — don't fuck with me."</p><p>Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler previously told Insider this may be because the Kazakh middleweight referenced Canelo's positive drug test before their 2018 rematch.</p><p>They didn't always hate one another's guts. They even sparred and trained together in California's Big Bear mountains almost 10 years ago.</p><p>Regardless, Canelo wants his revenge.</p><p>But first he has to beat Bivol.</p><h2>'I'll fight everybody,' Canelo said. 'I don't fucking care.'</h2><div type="image" title="Dmitry Bivol puts his WBA light heavyweight championship on the line Saturday." height="1333" width="2000" msid="91385877" hostid="261"></div><p>Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were boxing's most prominent faces of the last generation.</p><p>Only time will tell whether this era becomes Canelo's.</p><p>His weekend fight against Bivol, which will be broadcast on DAZN pay-per-view, is a big boxing show rather than an enormous sporting event, as his celebrity is yet to rival the box office appeal of the attractions who came before him.</p><p>There is still time. The way Canelo and Hearn talk, legacy fights are of the utmost importance. They want to target belt holders like Bivol and take their championships. They want unification fights and to become the undisputed champion in multiple weight classes. They want landmark fights in historic places — like bringing a title defense to Mexico, where they could box in front of 100,000 people. "I'll fight everybody," Canelo said. "I don't fucking care."</p><p>Right now, it's all about Bivol, who "is a fresh challenge for me because he's a solid champion at 175-pounds," Canelo told Insider last week.</p><p>"He's a great fighter," Canelo said. "He knows what to do in the ring. I love this kind of challenge."</p><p>Canelo is campaigning in weight classes outside of where he began his career, and yet his power remains as fierce as ever.</p><p>He's a punisher. A bone breaker. He famously wrecked Billy Joe Saunders' face and sent the Brit to the hospital after a dominant performance at the AT&amp;T Stadium in Texas last year.</p><p>Insider asked him whether he can break bones at light heavyweight, too.</p><p>"You never know. I feel so strong. I can do it. Why not?" he replied.</p><p>There are no real secrets when it comes to fracturing an opponent's orbital bone, Canelo told us. "It's all training. I think in this weight I'm stronger than other weights, as I don't lose too much weight," for the fight. "I keep my power."</p><h2>Canelo has built 'a massive sponsorship base'</h2><div type="image" title="Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is a brand ambassador for Hennessy VSOP." height="693" width="925" msid="91385878" hostid="261"></div><p>Canelo is "mega," Hearn told Insider this week.</p><p>"To get the flagship guy in any industry is so big for your business," he said. "The mindset is, 'Sign Canelo Alvarez and the rest will follow.' He's been so big for my profile, for Matchroom's brand, and for the enjoyment factor."</p><p>For Hearn, "it don't get any bigger" than a Canelo fight week — particularly in Vegas.</p><p>"If you sign Canelo Alvarez, everything changes because his fan base knows me and now Mexican fighters know me. All young Mexican fighters now want to be with Matchroom" because of Canelo, said Hearn.</p><p>"Now we signed a new TV deal with DAZN in Mexico, where they'll be six shows a year, feeder shows to our bigger US shows.</p><p>"The power you can have in the conversation with brands, sponsors, and venues — it's just everything changes."</p><p>The fact big brands flock to Canelo is a reflection that the fighter is relatively scandal-free, according to Hearn.</p><p>Hennessy's $60 VSOP bottle has a five-year relationship with Canelo, and insiders we met at that company this week are thrilled with the ongoing relationship.</p><p>"You don't build a massive sponsorship base by being questionable in your integrity," Hearn told Insider.</p><p>Canelo, <a href="https://www.insider.com/canelo-alvarez-set-for-53-million-payday-dmitri-bivol-fight-2022-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">with his $53 million purse for this bout</a>, has come a long way in the boxing game considering he once shared a room with seven other people when he first started fighting.</p><p>Canelo told Insider and other reporters that he received a wage of 800 pesos ($40) for his first pro fight. "In fact, they only paid me half of that, and the other half was in tickets and I gave all of the tickets to my family.</p><p>"As I've got an absolutely fucking massive family, I ended up with 400 pesos ($20)."</p><p>But Canelo says he isn't even fighting for money because "it's already there." It's now all about legacy.</p><p>Those close to him, like Saucedo and Reynoso, and Canelo himself never thought he'd get this far in boxing.</p><p>"I wanted to be one of the best, but I never imagined it'd be of this magnitude," said Canelo.</p><p>"I feel really happy because lots of things have happened to me, and now here I am," he said. "I'm hugely grateful."</p>

<p>The "Pokémon Go" craze may have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pokemon-go-has-peaked-2016-8">peaked</a>, but the mobile game is still ridiculously popular.</p><p>Popular enough that there are still regular reports of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/video-pokemon-go-players-taiwan-stampede-2016-8">hundreds of people stampeding</a> in search of a Snorlax. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/woman-dies-car-crash-pokemon-go-driver-japan-2016-8">Someone was killed just last week in Japan</a> by a driver who admitted to playing "Pokémon Go" while driving.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57bb0b5cdb5ce94b088b80d9-1920/screen shot 2016-08-22 at 10.25.03 am.png" alt="pokemon go snorlax taiwan taipei" data-mce-source="YouTube" /><p class="source"><span>YouTube</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Popular enough that it's still the biggest moneymaker in mobile gaming right now. It's the number one grossing game on Google Play, as well as the iTunes App Store (<a href="https://www.appannie.com/apps/ios/top/united-states/games/iphone?lang=en&amp;login=False&amp;source_country=OK">according to App Annie</a>).</p><p>The recent reports of its imminent decline miss several key points, says Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad. </p><p>"Pokémon Go" exploded in popularity, and rapidly launched in many countries. It's the fastest downloaded <em>anything</em> on both iPhone and Android. That puts the game into a rare category of mega-hit. Simply put: the kind of user numbers that "Pokémon Go" initially enjoyed are unsustainable. Remember when it had <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pokemon-go-nearly-as-many-daily-users-snapchat-google-maps-more-than-twitter-surveymonkey-2016-7?r=UK&amp;IR=T">more users than Twitter</a>? That was never going to last.</p><p>The tapering off of those record-setting, astronomic numbers is entirely expected. Ahmad described the effect as, "what one would expect when looking at [daily active user] numbers, that the number will decrease over time and begin to level out at a much lower number."</p><p>Indeed, that's exactly what the data shows:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57c04d1009d2937a048b49fd-844/pokemongo_monthlyactiveusers.png" alt="Pokemon Go" data-mce-source="SurveyMonkey Intelligence" /><p class="source"><span>SurveyMonkey Intelligence</span></p><p class="caption">The game spiked in popularity around launch (early July) in the US. It began slowly tapering off around mid-August.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>If anything, the strangest part of this chart is the front - where the game goes from unknown to <strong>50 million</strong> users in one month. "The game achieved record revenue figures in its first month, higher than that of 'Clash Royale' (the previous record holder)," says Ahmad. "Pokémon Go" is the fastest game to hit 50 million installs on the Google Play store (by a huge margin), and already has more than 100 million installs through Google Play." </p><p>Something particularly interesting that this chart demonstrates is how many people are <em>still playing</em> "Pokémon Go." If I'm being honest, I'm not one of those folks - I opened it this morning for the first time in several weeks, and only because I was writing about the game. And I'm less likely these days to see a gaggle of people hanging around the front of my local park battling for control of the Gym.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57c08d0db996ebf6088b4b87-2000/rtshh1c.jpg" alt="pokemon go" data-mce-source="Mark Kauzlarich/Reuters" /><p class="source"><span>Mark Kauzlarich/Reuters</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>But as of August 18, <strong>over 40 million people are still actively playing "Pokémon Go,"</strong> according to SurveyMonkey Intelligence. Another estimate, <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-22/these-charts-show-that-pokemon-go-is-already-in-decline">published by Bloomberg</a>, puts the game at over 30 million users - "a number most mobile games will never reach," Ahmad pointed out. </p><p>"Most mobile games will be lucky to retain 50% of their users after the first month. A game that is able to retain 50% of its users after one month is a game that is doing considerably better than the average game, and one that shows it's doing well," he added. </p><p>Point being: The decline in "Pokémon Go" users is normal, not indicative of a fad. Instead the decline is normal, and the decline is not as sharp as the average mobile game would be after one month."</p><p>That's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pokmon-go-not-available-in-china-because-of-google-2016-8">before launching in China</a>, the largest mobile games market in the world, or South Korea (the fourth largest). <p>This issue of Spotify underpaying artists resurfaced last week when Taylor Swift <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-swift-pulled-all-of-her-albums-from-spotify-2014-11">pulled her entire catalogue of music from Spotify</a> after refusing to put her new hit album "1989" on the service. Swift has previously said that artists need to protect their work and value it appropriately, and Spotify has previously been criticized for not paying artists enough.</p>
<p>"Taylor Swift is absolutely right: music is art, art has real value, and artists deserve to be paid for it," Ek wrote.</p>
<p>Part of the problem is that the amount of money Spotify pays labels does not equal the amount of money artists see from allowing their music to be streamed.</p>
<p>Last month, Jimmy Buffett <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jimmy-buffett-asked-the-ceo-of-spotify-for-a-raise-2014-10">complained</a> that artists who stream their music on Spotify are "at the end of the pipeline" when it comes to the money Spotify pays labels for permission to stream albums. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">And the money Spotify pays labels, while it amounts to a reported 70% of the company's revenue, averages </span><a href="http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-25217353">less than a penny per play</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">.</span></p>
<p>But Ek argues that Spotify still protects artists against piracy, which doesn't earn the artist any money: "Piracy doesn't pay artists a penny - nothing, zilch, zero."</p>
<p>Ek defended the amount Spotify pays per stream by pointing out that one stream is "one person playing one song one time."</p>
<p>"People throw around a lot of stream counts that seem big and then tell you they're associated with payouts that sound small," Ek wrote. "... <strong>At our current size, payouts for a top artist like Taylor Swift (before she pulled her catalog) are on track to exceed $6 million a year, and that's only growing - we expect that number to double again in a year.</strong> Any way you cut it, one thing is clear - we're paying an enormous amount of money to labels and publishers for distribution to artists and songwriters, and significantly more than any other streaming service."</p>
<p>That sounds like a big number, but keep in mind that one week of album sales for Swift's new record 1989 would do ~$12 million in gross sales. </p>
<p>Ek also seemed to shift blame to the record labels for not paying artists a big enough cut of the money the labels receieve from Spotify.</p>
<p>"When I hear stories about artists and songwriters who say they've seen little or no money from streaming and are naturally angry and frustrated, I'm really frustrated too," Ek wrote. "... As I said, we've already paid more than $2 billion in royalties to the music industry and if that money is not flowing to the creative community in a timely and transparent way, that's a big problem."</p>
<p>About 25% of Spotify's 50 million active users pay for the service, according to Ek. The users who stream music for free have to listen to ads, which provide another stream of revenue for Spotify.</p>
<p>Spotify premium subscribers pay about $120 per year for the service.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>Taylor Swift</strong> is absolutely right: music is art, art has real value, and artists deserve to be paid for it. We started Spotify because we love music and piracy was killing it. So all the talk swirling around lately about how Spotify is making money on the backs of artists upsets me big time. Our whole reason for existence is to help fans find music and help artists connect with fans through a platform that protects them from piracy and pays them for their amazing work. Quincy Jones posted on Facebook that "Spotify is not the enemy; piracy is the enemy". You know why? Two numbers: Zero and Two Billion. Piracy doesn't pay artists a penny - nothing, zilch, zero. Spotify has paid more than <strong>two billion dollars</strong> to labels, publishers and collecting societies for distribution to songwriters and recording artists. A billion dollars from the time we started Spotify in 2008 to last year and another billion dollars since then. And that's two billion dollars' worth of listening that would have happened with zero or little compensation to artists and songwriters through piracy or practically equivalent services if there was no Spotify - we're working day and night to recover money for artists and the music business that piracy was stealing away.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">When I hear stories about artists and songwriters who say they've seen little or no money from streaming and are naturally angry and frustrated, I'm really frustrated too. The music industry is changing - and we're proud of our part in that change - but lots of problems that have plagued the industry since its inception continue to exist. As I said, we've already paid more than $2 billion in royalties to the music industry and if that money is not flowing to the creative community in a timely and transparent way, that's a big problem.   We will do anything we can to work with the industry to increase transparency, improve speed of payments, and give artists the opportunity to promote themselves and connect with fans - that's our responsibility as a leader in this industry; and it's the right thing to do.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">We're trying to build a new music economy that works for artists in a way the music industry never has before. And it <em>is</em>working - Spotify is the single biggest driver of growth in the music industry, the number one source of increasing revenue, and the first or second biggest source of overall music revenue in many places. Those are facts. But there are at least three big misconceptions out there about how we work, how much we pay, and what we mean for the future of music and the artists who create it. Let's take a look at them.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><br>Myth number one: free music for fans means artists don't get paid. </br></strong>On Spotify, nothing could be further from the truth. Not all free music is created equal - on Spotify, free music is supported by ads, and we pay for every play. Until we launched Spotify, there were two economic models for streaming services: all free or all paid, never together, and both models had a fatal flaw. The paid-only services never took off (despite spending hundreds of millions of dollars on marketing), because users were being asked to pay for something that they were already getting for free on piracy sites. The free services, which scaled massively, paid next to nothing back to artists and labels, and were often just a step away from piracy, implemented without regard to licensing, and they offered no path to convert all their free users into paying customers. Paid provided monetization without scale, free reached scale without monetization, and neither produced anywhere near enough money to replace the ongoing decline in music industry revenue.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">We had a different idea. We believed that a blended option - or 'freemium' model - would build scale and monetization together, ultimately creating a new music economy that gives fans access to the music they love and pays artists fairly for their amazing work. Why link free and paid? Because the hardest thing about selling a music subscription is that most of our competition comes from the tons of free music available just about everywhere. Today, people listen to music in a wide variety of ways, but by far the three most popular ways are radio, YouTube, and piracy - all free. Here's the overwhelming, undeniable, inescapable bottom line: the vast majority of music listening is unpaid. If we want to drive people to pay for music, we have to compete with free to get their attention in the first place.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">So our theory was simple - offer a terrific free tier, supported by advertising, as a starting point to attract fans and get them in the door. And unlike other free music options - from piracy to YouTube to SoundCloud - we pay artists and rights holders every time a song is played on our free service. But it's not as flexible or uninterrupted as Premium. If you've ever used Spotify's free service on mobile, you know what I mean - just like radio, you can pick the kind of music you want to hear but can't control the specific song that's being played, or what gets played next, and you have to listen to ads. We believed that as fans invested in Spotify with time, listening to their favorite music, discovering new music and sharing it with their friends, they would eventually want the full freedom offered by our premium tier, and they'd be willing to pay for it.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">We were right. Our free service drives our paid service. Today we have more than 50 million active users of whom 12.5 million are subscribers each paying $120 per year. That's three times more than the average paying music consumer spent in the past. What's more, the majority of these paying users are under the age of 27, fans who grew up with piracy and never expected to pay for music. But here's the key fact: <em>more than 80% of our subscribers started as free users</em>. If you take away only one thing, it should be this: No free, no paid, no two billion dollars.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><br>Myth number two: Spotify pays, but it pays so little per play nobody could ever earn a living from it.</br></strong> First of all, let's be clear about what a single stream - or listen - is: it's one person playing one song one time. So people throw around a lot of stream counts that seem big and then tell you they're associated with payouts that sound small. But let's look at what those counts really represent. If a song has been listened to 500 thousand times on Spotify, that's the same as it having been played <em>one time</em> on a U.S. radio station with a moderate sized audience of 500 thousand people. Which would pay the recording artist precisely … nothing at all. But the equivalent of that one play and it's 500 thousand listens on Spotify would pay out between three and four thousand dollars. The Spotify equivalent of ten plays on that radio station - once a day for a week and a half - would be worth thirty to forty thousand dollars.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Now, let's look at a hit single, say Hozier's 'Take Me To Church'. In the months since that song was released, it's been listened to enough times to generate hundreds of thousands of dollars for his label and publisher. At our current size, payouts for a top artist like <strong>Taylor Swift</strong> (before she pulled her catalog) are on track to exceed $6 million a year, and that's only growing - we expect that number to double again in a year. Any way you cut it, one thing is clear - we're paying an enormous amount of money to labels and publishers for distribution to artists and songwriters, and significantly more than any other streaming service.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong><br>Myth number three: Spotify hurts sales, both download and physical.</br></strong> This is classic correlation without causation - people see that downloads are down and streaming is up, so they assume the latter is causing the former. Except the whole correlation falls apart when you realize a simple fact: <em>downloads are dropping just as quickly in markets where Spotify doesn't exist.</em> Canada is a great example, because it has a mature music market very similar to the US. Spotify launched in Canada a few weeks ago. In the first half of 2014, downloads declined just as dramatically in Canada - without Spotify - as they did everywhere else. If Spotify is cannibalising downloads, who's cannibalising Canada?</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">By the same token, we've got a great list of artists who <em>promoted</em> their new releases on Spotify and had terrific sales and lots of streaming too - like Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, <span class="MusicLinks-hookedWord"><img class="MusicLinks-hookImage" src="https://d5ecgvacntsb3.cloudfront.net/widgets/music-links/images/inline-icon-play-light.ac2ae48b.png" border="0">Lana Del Rey</img></span> and alt-J. Artists from Daft Punk to <span class="MusicLinks-hookedWord"><img class="MusicLinks-hookImage" src="https://d5ecgvacntsb3.cloudfront.net/widgets/music-links/images/inline-icon-play-light.ac2ae48b.png" border="0">Calvin Harris</img></span> to Eminem had number ones and were on Spotify at the same time too.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Which brings us back to <strong>Taylor Swift</strong>. She sold more than 1.2 million copies of <em>1989</em> in the US in its first week, and that's awesome. We hope she sells a lot more because she's an exceptional artist producing great music. But she's the only artist who has sold more than a million copies in an album's first week since 2002. In the old days, multiple artists sold multiple millions every year. That just doesn't happen any more; people's listening habits have changed - and they're not going to change back. You can't look at Spotify in isolation - even though Taylor can pull her music off Spotify (where we license and pay for every song we've ever played), her songs are all over services and sites like YouTube and Soundcloud, where people can listen all they want for free. To say nothing of the fans who will just turn back to pirate services like Grooveshark. And sure enough, if you looked at the top spot on The Pirate Bay last week, there was <em>1989</em>…</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Here's the thing I really want artists to understand: Our interests are totally aligned with yours. Even if you don't believe that's our goal, look at our business. Our whole business is to maximize the value of your music. We don't use music to drive sales of hardware or software. We use music to get people to pay for music. The more we grow, the more we'll pay you. We're going to be transparent about it all the way through. And we have a big team of your fellow artists here because if you think we haven't done well enough, we want to know, and we want to do better. None of that is ever going to change.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">We're getting fans to pay for music again. We're connecting artists to fans they would never have otherwise found, and we're paying them for every single listen. We're not just streaming, we're <em>main</em>streaming now, and that's good for music makers and music lovers around the world. </p>
