Many only take notice of this social segment in the name of tax rebates and corporate social responsibility. Recently, a panel constituted by the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) advised the setting up of a ‘social stock exchange’. It would work like a regular stock exchange except that the firms listed on it would be non-government, social enterprises. This would help many of these upstarts raise money for their ventures. “The new technologies, when I, when we say sustainability, when we are committed to sustainability. We have to commit to new and new technologies in the energy space, it is how energy is produced, maybe the solar photovoltaic technology or the advancements in the solar technologies in our renewable energy technologies and how we store that and how we disseminate it,” Reddy said, adding this is just an example hoe opportunities can be created by making technology that don’t emit carbon dioxide. He added that there are social aspects to sustainability too, which offer better life and livelihood to people. COVID-19: Karan Johar's Dharma Productions to donate to PM-CARES, Maha CM relief funds and NGOs

By Lalit K Jha Washington, Apr 24 () An Indian-American NGO has raised USD 1 million to fight hunger in India and the United States amid the the coronavirus pandemic.This translates to 4,700,000 meals for people in the United States and ration kits for 106,000 migrant workers in India that will last them seven to 10 days, said M R Rangaswami, founder and chairman of the board of NGO Indiaspora. It was a volunteer group in San Jose, California that made the last donation of USD 5,000 after which the campaign fund crossed USD 1 million. "It is so heartening to see that this is just a group of regular Indian Americans, who are a volunteer group, and are gifting to different non-profits and charities. They on their own decided that this was the best cause," Rangaswami, an investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist, told .The money raised by Indiaspora through its 'ChaloGive for COVID-19' online campaign will be used to provide relief directly to vulnerable population in both the countries. Contributions given are sent to two beneficiary organisations, Feeding America in the US and Goonj in India. Feeding America is using the contributions to bolster its nationwide network of 200 food banks. Goonj is using the funds to provide food, dry ration and hygiene kits to displaced migrants in parts of eighteen states in India. In this hour of coronavirus pandemic that has hit both the United States and India, the Indian-American community has resoundingly shown up across the country, said Rangaswami. "It's not just donations to Indiaspora. The Sikhs feeding people through langar, young children making masks for healthcare workers, SEWA International making plasma donation matching. It has been an outpouring from across the country, which I have never seen before," said the California-based venture capitalist, who has closely following communities' philanthropic activities for long time. Such an outpouring of support was last time seen during the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, but that time the call was given by the then US President Bill Clinton and Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said. "Since then, I have not seen anything of this scale (of giving by Indian-Americans)," he said, adding that the community this time is contributing both their time and money. SEWA International, another non-profit body has raised more than USD 500,000 for its coronavirus relief work. One of the donations that helped Indiaspora cross the USD 1 million threshold came from Bay-area based volunteer group Aram Sei, whose vision is to support grassroots charities worldwide in the areas of education and healthcare. Mumbai, May 9 () Filmmaker Satyanshu Singh has launched a unique initiative to raise relief money for those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.The director has started online classes for budding cinema students and has roped artistes from different fields of filmmaking for the initiative.Actor Vinay Pathak, screenwriters Anjum Rajabali and Sudip Sharma, cinematographer Siddharth Diwan and director Shoojit Sircar have come aboard the initiative.Since April 1, more than a dozen lectures have been conducted with students from cities like Bokaro, Kota, Bhilai, Almora, and Coimbatore taking part in them. Satyanshu Singh starts online classes to raise money for COVID-19 relief

New Delhi, Apr 18 () Walmart Inc, Walmart Foundation and Flipkart on Saturday said they are are supporting India's COVID-19 response by donating personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers and funds for organisations providing essential relief materials to farmers and small businesses. Walmart Inc and e-commerce major Flipkart will spend Rs 38.3 crore towards in-kind donations into India to help with the front-line response efforts, a statement said. "The companies will focus on providing PPE, such as N95 masks and medical gowns, for distribution by non-government organizations (NGOs) to public healthcare workers. "Walmart and Flipkart have already secured 300,000 N95 masks and 1 million medical gowns, and they will continue to leverage their global supply chains to source these critical necessities for medical workers...," it added. In addition, Walmart Foundation is donating a total of Rs 7.7 crore to Goonj and Srijan -- NGOs supporting vulnerable communities through the crisis. New Delhi, Apr 14 () Donation platform GiveIndia on Tuesday said it has launched the 'India COVID Response Fund' (ICRF) with initial donations worth Rs 75 crore to support the on-ground COVID relief efforts being carried out by its network of verified non-profits.Some of the early donors to the fund include the Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, Google.org, HSBC India, Omidyar Network India, UBS Optimus Foundation, Marico, Uber India (through Uber Care driver fund), Binny Bansal and A.T.E. Walmart, Flipkart invest ₹46 crore to help India's Covid-19 crisis

But, that comes with a ‘no return’ policy. In order to avail the extra discount, the buyer has to go for ‘non-returnable’ option while making the purchase. The additional discount on the products is up to 4%, if the buyer chooses to not return the product. Google also pledged $1 million relief to flood-hit areas of India, Nepal and Bangladesh. "We are committing $1 million from Google.org and Google employees to Goonj and Save the Children for their relief efforts," Rajan Anandan, Vice-President, South East Asia and India, wrote in a blog post.
