Google is now entering the lucrative lending business in India, along with local partners. This is aimed at both small merchants and regular users. It is noteworthy that Google Pay enjoys a huge market share in India, handling over 30% of the total UPI transactions in the country. “Just like UPI revolutionised digital payments, digitising credit – with consent and privacy safeguards – can provide ways of expanding the reach of formal credit. And the lower transaction cost of digital credit delivery can enable smaller minimum ticket loan sizes, making it more suitable and approachable for more borrowers,” Google said in a post. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Credit for merchants" comment="subhead" text="Credit for merchants">Credit for merchants</cmsannotation> Google has announced several credit facilities for merchants, aimed at offering improved access to credit. Google for India – Sachet loans to credit on UPI, tech giant bets on lending

Payments made via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) reported a 45% yearly growth, according to data from the National Payment Corporation of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> (<keyword id="19998946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI" source="keywords">NPCI</keyword>). The value of transactions also saw a growth of over 35%, totaling Rs 20.64 trillion. This marks the third consecutive month when total transactions exceeded Rs 20 trillion. In June 2024, the total UPI transaction value was Rs 20.07 trillion, while in May it was Rs 20.44 trillion. NPCI data also showed that the average daily transaction value through UPI in July 2024 was Rs 466 million, or about Rs 66,590 crore. Compared with June, the volume of <keyword id="19957378" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="UPI-transactions" source="keywords">UPI transactions</keyword> grew by 3.95% in July, while the value of transactions increased by 2.84%. In the first four months of the current fiscal year (2024-25), UPI recorded transactions amounting to Rs 80.79 trillion, across approximately 55.66 billion transactions. In 2023-24, total UPI transactions were 131 billion, compared to 84 billion in 2022-23. The monthly bulletin of the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) reported that over the last four years, UPI transactions have seen a ten-fold increase in volume, from 12.5 billion transactions in 2019-20 to 131 billion transactions in 2023-24, which accounts for 80% of the total digital payment volumes. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions experienced substantial growth, increasing by 57% year-on-year in FY24. Within this segment, PhonePe and Google Pay dominated, holding a combined market share of 86%, according to the Boston Consulting Group's (BCG) Banking Sector Roundup for 2023-24. A shift in <keyword id="19989657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="keywords">digital payments</keyword> was noted, with credit card transactions doubling over the past three years. In contrast, debit card transactions declined by 43% year-on-year. By making digital payment platform technology and device agnostic, UPI has contributed to <keyword id="20377974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-inclusion" source="keywords">financial inclusion</keyword> at the grassroots level. Digital payments in India are hitting fresh highs, as citizens increasingly adopt emerging modes of online transactions. One key emphasis of the Indian government has been to ensure that the benefits of UPI are not limited to India alone; other countries, too, can benefit from it. UPI is India's mobile-based fast payment system, which facilitates customers to make round-the-clock payments instantly using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) created by the customer. The share of UPI in digital payments in India has reached close to 80% in 2023. Today, India accounts for nearly 46% of the world's digital transactions, based on 2022 data.

With this, users can now link their RuPay credit cards with Google Pay to make payments at all online and offline merchants where RuPay credit cards are accepted. Customers with RuPay credit cards issued by Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank and Union Bank of India will be able to avail this feature. Until the latest update, UPI-based payment app Google Pay, like most payments apps, only supported payments using a debit card. Now, users can add their RuPay credit card and make payments seamlessly to merchants across the country. At present, there is no option to add Visa and Mastercard-issued credit cards to Google Pay or any other UPI payment app in India. To link a RuPay credit card to Google Pay, follow these steps: <ul><li>To get started, open the Google Pay app and navigate to the settings menu.</li><li>To proceed, select the ‘<keyword id="17501077" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="setup-payment-method" source="Orion">Setup Payment Method</keyword>’ option in Google Pay and choose to add a RuPay credit card.</li><li>Enter the required details such as the last six digits of the card, the expiry date, and the PIN.</li><li>You will need to verify the details by entering the OTP (One-Time Password) sent to your registered mobile number.</li><li>Now, when making a payment to any UPI vendor, you can select your RuPay credit card as the payment method. On August 28, 2018, the company rebranded it to ‘Google Pay.’ UPI comes with a series of features including self-transfer, balance check, payment via QR code scanning, and more. Google pay is one of the most used payment apps in India. Also known as GPAY, it lets you make all types of online payments. Every transaction done on Google Pay is secured by a <keyword id="4760578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi-pin" source="Orion">UPI pin</keyword>. When you make any transaction on Google Pay, you need to enter 4 digit code to allow bank transactions. This UPI pin is set when you are creating your Google Pay account. How to change UPI pin in Google Pay

<ul><li><keyword id="2750705" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="google-pay" source="Orion">Google Pay</keyword> gets ‘Tap to Pay’ feature in collaboration with <keyword id="1552189" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pine-labs" source="Orion">Pine Labs</keyword>.</li><li>Google Pay lets you make contactless payments via NFC.</li><li>It will be available at merchants like Future Retail and Starbucks. </li></ul>Google’s payment platform Google Pay has launched the ‘Tap to Pay’ UPI-based payment system in collaboration with Pine Labs. This new functionality makes paying easier and faster where you just have to tap the phone to pay, which is seen on some credit and debit cards. Note that the feature will only work on NFC-enabled Android smartphones to make payments by using any Pine Labs Android POS terminal across the nation. This means to complete payment, you have to just tap your smartphone on the POS terminal and authenticate the payment from your phone, using <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> PIN. This process is quick and seamless when compared to entering a UPI-linked mobile number or scanning a QR code. Making a statement on development <keyword id="5364271" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sajith-sivanandan" source="Orion">Sajith Sivanandan</keyword>, Business Head of Google Pay said, “Fintech growth in India is writing the playbook for the world, first with enabling real-time payments with UPI, and further, by innovating with flows that make the transaction time virtually zero. ‘Tap to Pay’ for UPI has profound implications for high traffic retail outlets, with queue management hassles poised to be greatly reduced, and taking digital payments at POS well beyond cards. We are very excited to bring this first-ever innovation to India, in collaboration with Pine Labs.” Kush Mehra, Chief Business Officer, Pine Labs believes the feature will further strengthen UPI acceptance in India and will appeal young population who have already started adopting contactless and digital payments. How to use Google Pay Tap to Pay? First, make sure your smartphone has NFC (Near Field Communication) tag, which is hardware equipment that makes the feature work on the device. The contact is done when the phone’s NFC tag is tapped on the POS machine, which also has a tag to receive the signal. The feature is only for Android phones, for now, there was no mention of the iOS version yet. Google Pay now has Tap to Pay for UPI — here’s how to use it

<ul><li><keyword id="790242" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="whatsapp" source="Orion">WhatsApp</keyword> has started offering a cashback of ₹51 with no limit on the amount sent.</li><li>This feature is currently available to WhatsApp beta users on Android.</li><li>You can get the cashback up to five times, and by sending money to different contacts.</li></ul>WhatsApp started testing cashback for its UPI-based payments service last month. It has now started rolling out this feature to Android beta users on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/whatsapp-could-soon-offer-cashback-for-payments-in-india/articleshow/86450568.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">WhatsApp</a>. The new cashback offer seems like a new way for WhatsApp to push its payments service in India. The WhatsApp beta app on Android has started displaying a banner on top of the chat list with the message, “Give cash, get ₹51 back.” You can get a guaranteed cashback of ₹51 up to five times by sending money to different contacts. WhatsApp also hasn’t set a limit on the amount for this cashback offer. We can confirm this works so you can send ₹1 you still get ₹51 back.
