The year is 2023. Despite being on the decline, superhero movie franchising has irreparably permeated the fabric of Hollywood. This has marked a precarious time for Godzilla fanboys, whose previous instalments have basically turned into another superhero team-up movie. The stage has been set for Chris Pratt to inevitably assume another monster-wrangling, constant-smouldering, protagonist in the <keyword id="21948500" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kaiju-verse" source="keywords">Kaiju-verse</keyword>. And then, boom, Toho drops the spiciest teaser ever: their next movie has Godzilla — AND HE’S ACTUALLY ACTING LIKE A MONSTER! While Legendary’s reimagining of Godzilla as a cooperative saviour of humanity might have made big bucks at the box office, the franchise’s die-hards have been starving for the behemoth to return to his roots as a champion of indiscriminate terror. Not only did Toho’s latest <keyword id="17981314" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="godzilla-minus-one" source="Orion">Godzilla Minus One</keyword> promise to do just that, but it also displayed immense potential to do well as a period drama, considering it was set during the perils of a World War. After suffering through the silly (and unreleased lesser-known sexy Godzilla arcs), everyone's favourite giant radioactive lizard, Godzilla — or Gojira, if you're feeling fancy — roared into Japanese theatres, and then in the US shortly after. Fans went bananas and practically raced to see the beast in all its atomic-breathed glory. Sadly, many countries, including India, missed out on the big-screen experience. However, <keyword id="19897536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Netflix" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Netflix" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Netflix">Netflix</keyword> recently swooped in like a saviour and dropped Godzilla Minus One into our laps. And in case you’ve been living under a rock, the film is set in Japan recovering from World War II. The story follows a guilt-ridden WW2 Japanese pilot who finds a makeshift family and lands a job detonating underwater mines. Guess what shows up? Godzilla (and a whole lotta trouble). A lot is being said about the latest version of the franchise — mostly good things. While the director <keyword id="20231438" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="takashi-yamazaki" source="keywords">Takashi Yamazaki</keyword> was tight-lipped about the blockbuster’s budget, sources have since determined that it falls somewhere between $10 million and $12 million. Impressively, the film even received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. Further, both critics and the audience have been raving about the writing, something that is oft missing from some kaiju films. However, amid all of this praise, there are some fans who weren’t, well fans, of Godzilla Minus One. Even as we remain steadfast loyalists of the franchise, here are some unpopular opinions on the recent re-telling of the OG monster. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Problems with CGI" comment="subhead" text="Problems with CGI">Problems with CGI </cmsannotation>Let’s face it, Legendary really got things grinding in the CGI department with their Godzilla films. Few things have effectively commanded as much raw terror as the final fight scene in Godzilla v Kong. There is a particular moment where Mechagodzilla looks into the camera after releasing its atomic ray all over the city, followed by the jarring mechanical ‘THUD-THUD-THUD’ that really fills your heart with something. While GvK did not succeed in winning any Oscars, Minus One won the Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. This has received some criticism from netizens, with some alleging that the Legendary film had far better CGI than the Toho film. “How did this receive an award for CGI? It looks like an early 2000s ScyFy channel movie,” one user commented on Rotten Tomatoes. However, many fans weren’t exactly looking to be moved by the human elements. They just wanted to watch Godzilla doing what he does best — terrorise. For example, one <keyword id="21948499" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rotten-tomato" source="keywords">Rotten Tomato</keyword> user wrote: “I guess I'm the only one who wants more monster action and less "compelling human stories" in a Godzilla movie. I find it boring and forgettable.” “I liked the Godzilla scenes a lot and it did have some memorable characters but there was way too much humans and not much Godzilla. Now with three Emmys for the role of a lifetime in "Breaking Bad" and a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bryan-cranston-wins-tony-2014-6" target="_blank">recent Tony win</a> for his Broadway appearance in "All the Way," how does the 58-year-old actor decide which role to take next?
Cranston recently revealed to GQ he <a href="http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/entertainment/articles/2014-04/28/bryan-cranston-gq-cover-interview-2014/viewall" target="_blank">undertakes a very methodical process</a> to figure out his next role. 
For every part offered, he makes a chart referred to as Caps (Cranston Assessment Project Scale).

"... On the left he writes the offers in blue ballpoint. Along the top, five categories, listed in decreasing order of importance - Story, Script, Role, Director, Cast - each of which he gives a score to. There are bonus points (salary) and minus points (time away from family). And then he decides. Anything under 16, no way. Anything more than 25, you bet. Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, was a 28. <a href="http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/comment/articles/2014-04/22/breaking-bad-finale-alternate-ending" target="_blank">Breaking Bad</a> maxed it out. 'Every level was at the top. Easy decision.'"
Cranston, who recently appeared in summer hit "Godzilla," originally turned down the role as engineer Joe Brody because it didn't pass his "Caps" assessment. It received a 20 on the Cranston scale.
Eventually, his agent convinced him to take a second look at the script and after adding in more points for a "surprisingly good script," "Godzilla" became the first role Cranston accepted after finishing "Breaking Bad."

Marvel is still mightier than any other brand in the business.But more than ever before, there are chinks in the armor of the superhero movie. Its dominance in popular culture is no longer quite so assured. A cycle may be turning, and a new one dawning.For the first time in more than two decades, the top three movies at the box office didn't include one sequel or remake: "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/all-upcoming-movies-mattel-toys-barbie-2023-7">Barbie</a>," "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/super-mario-bros-first-video-game-movie-highst-gross-billion-2023-5">The Super Mario Bros. As different as it and "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/barbie-movie-set-win-barbenheimer-box-office-battle-with-oppenheimer-2023-7">Barbie</a>" were, they were each <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/barbie-oppenheimer-barbenheimer-box-office-d07dce60b4726b2c168c228e1a405c70">original feats of cinema</a> and personal statements by its directors.At the same time, the Walt Disney Co.'s Marvel, a hit-making machine like none other in movie history, faltered like never before. "The Marvels" <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/marvels-box-office-disney-brie-larson-392f34978d96a5a2bca5e32717d888e8">marked a new low for the Marvel Cinematic Universe</a>, collecting $200 million globally. Bob Iger, Disney's chief executive, has called turning around Marvel his top priority. He said the superhero studio has suffered greatly from too many films and series leading to "diluted quality." The James Gunn, Peter Safran-led DC, meanwhile, won't officially launch until 2025 with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/james-gunn-superman-legacy-cast-2023-7">"Superman Legacy."</a>In the meantime, something else will have to fill the void. That was a theme in 2023, too, when <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/hollywood-strike-sag-aftra-wga-writers-actors-1960-2023-7">the writers and actors strikes</a> marred release plans and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/fall-2023-movies-tv-affected-sag-wga-strikes">forced the delay of several films</a> including Warner's "Dune: Part Two," Sony's next "Ghostbusters" movie and MGM's "Challengers."Those disruptions will continue in 2024. Analysts aren't expecting a banner year for Hollywood in part because films like the next "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/how-tom-cruise-mission-impossible-dead-reckoning-stunts-2023-8">Mission: Impossible</a>" film and the "Spider-Verse" sequel, both delayed by the strikes, won't make their original dates.Overall ticket sales in U.S. and Canadian theaters for 2023 are expected to reach about $9 billion, according to Comscore, an improvement of about 20% from 2022. The industry is still trying to regain its pre-pandemic footing, when ticket sales regularly surpassed $11 billion. It grossed $250 million worldwide, and was followed by the similarly released "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/beyonce-renaissance-world-tour-movie-premiere-best-photos-lizzo-2023-11">another No. 1 debut.</a>More surprising was "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sound-of-freedom-deemed-box-office-hit-liberals-have-doubts-2023-7">Sound of Freedom</a>," a $15 million film from the independent Angel Studios, which matched Swift with $250 million worldwide. There's a shift in audience taste and studios need to get a handle on this."That poses as much of a challenge as an opportunity to studios. If more-of-the-same no longer has quite the same appeal for moviegoers, an industry that for years has depended on sequels, prequels, reboots and remakes to make up the bulk of its profits may require new creativity.The Western didn't vanish all at once. After two decades of ubiquity, it began going out of style in the 1960s. And the Western, of course, continues to be rich territory for filmmakers. This year, 81-year-old <a target="_blank" href="https://www.insider.com/martin-scorsese-set-real-life-killers-of-the-flower-moon-2023-10">Martin Scorsese</a> made his first Western in "Killers of the Flower Moon," the three-hour-plus $200 million epic from Apple Studios.The superhero movie, likewise, won't ever die. But its heyday might have reached its <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/0a72e05fc40e406ca07079abc2249a7c">endgame.</a>
