Mumbai, Jan 19 () Aviation consultancy firm CAPA has said it expects the second international airport in Goa to be ready for operations in next three years. 
 The Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the decks for construction of an international airport by the GMR Group at Mopa in North Goa by lifting suspension on environmental clearance (EC) granted for the project.
 Immediately after SC's order, the GMR Group said it plans to start work soon for the new aerodrome.
 The top court had early last year suspended the EC granted for the greenfield airport and had directed the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) to revisit the decision in light of its impact on the ecology there.
 "Delays in critical infrastructure projects is costly for the economy and the consumer. It is good that GMR Group's Mopa project finally got clearance. We can look forward to new airport in next three years," CAPA South Asia Chief Executive Officer Kapil Kaul told .
 The state government had initially given September 2020 as the deadline for commissioning of the estimated Rs 3,000 crore airport project after GMR Group won bids for development and operations of the aerodrome in 2016, beating state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Essel Infra-Incheon.
 However, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in the Assembly last year that he was expecting the airport to be completed by 2021.
 Kaul also said that the the delay is likely to push up the project cost, but its impact could be minimised.
 "There will be cost escalation but GMR has the ability to minimise the impact," he said.
 GMR had last year said it was incurring a loss of Rs 50 lakh per day on account of suspension of work at the project.
 The new airport, which under the concession agreement offers 232 acres of land for commercial city side development for a period of 60 years, would have a capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually once fully operational.
 The existing airport at Dabolim, which was designed to handle 50 lakh passengers per year, has far exceeded its capacity and AAI has already embarked on an expansion plan to increase the capacity to 1.30 crore passengers per annum by 2022. 
 The concession period for the greenfield project will be 40 years with a possible extension of another 20 years through a bid process.
 The airport will be built under the BOT (Build Operate Transfer) model.
 The regulatory regime for the concession will be hybrid till with 30 per cent cross subsidy.
 Under the hybrid till model, only up to 30 per cent of the non-aeronautical revenues, which include segments like retail, food and beverages and parking, would be used for cross-subsidisation of aeronautical charges.

In order to curb drunk driving accidents in the state, <keyword id="826" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="goa" source="Orion">Goa</keyword> will implement a new norm as per which bar and restaurant owners will have to arrange <keyword id="432469" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cabs" source="Orion">cabs</keyword> for their inebriated customers to drop them home or hotels in case of tourists. Speaking during 'Road Safety Week', Transport Minister Mauvin <keyword id="864619" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="godinho" source="Orion">Godinho</keyword> on Monday said that this is the new norm now. Earlier last year too, Godinho had announced this effort but it had not come into reality. However, recently police had intensified checks during the night and had fined those involved in drunk drinking. According to him if people are drunk, then bar owners should not allow them to go in their own vehicle, but they should arrange a cab to drop them off. "They can take their vehicles the next day," he said. "I am telling officers to liaison with <keyword id="6355410" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bars" source="Orion">bars</keyword> and restaurants with heavy footfall, where people go. If somebody is drunk, it is the responsibility of the bar owner to send them home by hiring a cab. Don't send them off driving their own car. This is a new norm in Goa for the safety of people. We will implement it very strictly," he said. He said that everyone has to follow rules just like they do in foreign countries. "Goans and tourists when they go abroad, don't they follow rules? Goa is somewhere you can break every rule because everybody knows everybody and is well connected, as we have only 15 lakh population. You can walk into the secretariat with the minister and phone that you are being caught and to not issue a challan. It is bad," Godinho said. "We want to discontinue it. Now henceforth those who break rules will be fined," he said. "I am really concerned with drunk cases. The cases of accidents are alarming. Around 20 per cent of cases coming to Goa Medical College are accidents. You may be so innocent on the road by driving so slow, but one fine day a drunk person can come and hit you. This should not happen. Soon, bars might have to book cabs for their drunk patrons in Goa

Operations at the Terminal-2 of the <keyword id="89772" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-International-Airport">Indira Gandhi International Airport</keyword> here will recommence from October 1 after a gap of around six months. Till now, only T-3 at the IGIA was operational for passenger travel. "The resumption of operations at T-2 will be with 96 air traffic movements (48 departures and 48 arrivals) per day and increase progressively up to 180 by the end of October," Delhi International Airport (DIAL) said in a statement. "The terminal will resume operations with IndiGo's 2000 series flights and entire operations of GoAir in the initial phase. About 27 counters - 11 for GoAir and 16 for IndiGo - have been created to cater to the passengers of respective flights." According to DIAL, the first flight scheduled from T-2 after reopening will be of Srinagar-bound Indigo aircraft that will depart at 6.25 am. "To start with, all IndiGo flights with series 2000 (6E 2000 - 6E 2999) will operate from T-2," the statement said. "These will cater to 20 destinations from T-2, including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Cochin, Guwahati, Indore, Jammu, Lucknow, Chennai, Patna, Srinagar, Trivandrum, and Visakhapatnam among others." In the next phase, from October 8, flights to 12 more destinations, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Goa, Hyderabad, Madurai, Jaipur, and Nagpur, will start operating from T-2, DIAL said. Delhi Airport's Terminal-2 to resume operations from October 1

To Heathrow, Air India will add five additional weekly frequencies with Delhi increasing from 14 to 17 times a week and Mumbai from 12 to 14 times a week. "We request our IMA Goa members to adhere to following guidelines. Samuel Arawattigi said in a statement late on Tuesday. 317 Europeans evacuated from state At least 317 Germans and European passengers were evacuated from Goa early on Tuesday, the official Twitter handle of the Goa International Airport said. Goa is now Coronavirus-free as all seven patients have recovered

Panaji, Nov 20 (IANS) Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi arrived in Goa on Friday afternoon, after doctors advised her to move out of Delhi for some time owing to her chest infection to avoid severe pollution in the national capital, according to party sources. After their arrival at the Dabolim International Airport, Sonia Gandhi and her son left for a south Goa resort, where she is expected to stay for a few days. Sonia Gandhi is on medication after her discharge from the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on August 2, and her doctors are concerned about her consistent chest infection. Goa Coronavirus cases rise to 7, 5 cured

This has to be rationalised for optimum utilization of time and fuel. Customers can get to their destinations quicker and cheaper,” Sitharaman said. More airport projects up for grabs The second step taken was that six more airports will be put up for auction by the Airports Authority of India and will be built on public private spaces. “Additional investments will be made by private players in 12 airports where investments are already present. The financial implications will be on the AAI. The first and second round of investments to get ₹13,000 crore,” said Sitharaman. India currently has several airport projects under construction – the Jewar international airport in Greater Noida, the Mopa Airport in Goa, Navi Mumbai international airport in Maharashtra, Sabarimala airport in Kerala among others. In April 2020, GMR got the go-ahead for the Bhogapuram airport in Andhra Pradesh. In February 2019, the Adani Group won a tender to operate all six government-owned Indian airports located in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Lucknow, and Guwahati. Making India an airline maintenance hub Another major investment was Sitharaman’s bid to make India an MRO hub – Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul. “Most Indian aircrafts go abroad for their repair works and spend there. But India has all the capacity – manpower and soft skills to set up an MRO hub here. India can be the centre for many of the flights for South East Asia as well as westwards,” she said. This will be a major step that we want to make sure India benefits from, she added. Not just the civil sector but defence aircrafts will also benefit from it. Through this, maintenance will also be cheaper for the aviation sector. The issue the MRO industry used to face because of the aircraft used to fly to other countries for repair. "In India we have a promising civil aviation sector, so we want the MRO sector to be located in India and much of the repair work should be done here. The problem they used to face was competitiveness was in GST. GST rate used to be 18%, so the meeting held in March the rate has been brought down to 5% with full input tax credit and that is something that will make the MRO industry very competitive," said the government. The coronavirus pandemic has left the Indian airlines sector stranded on the runway. All domestic and international flights have been suspended ever since the lockdown. “It will take 2-3 years for air travel to return to 2019 levels and a few more years to return to long-term growth trends according to Boeing,” said a Centrum Broking report last week. The <keyword id="34987" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation-industry">aviation industry</keyword> is staring at losses to the tune of ₹25,000 crore, according to a CRISIL report. “These are preliminary estimates, and aggregate losses could increase if the lockdown is extended beyond the first quarter. As and when operations resume, overall operational capacity will hover at 50-60% for the rest of the fiscal. The Airports Authority of India and operator of Singapore’s <keyword id="875277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Changi-airport">Changi Airport</keyword> have entered into an agreement and the latter has become the first foreign company to manage Indian airports. 
 
Changi has been given contracts for Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports. 
 
There was no bidding for the contract and the decision was made during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore. However, financial terms haven’t been finalised yet. 
 
AAI wants to compete against global airport majors in bidding for the Goa airport. AAI will likely form a special purpose vehicle to bid for the Rs 3,000 crore project. 
 
As India’s domestic air traffic growing, more and more global players are showing interest in Indian airports. 
 
As per International Air Transport Association data , October’s revenue passenger kilometers rose 17.6% in India's domestic sector. The next best was China, with growth of 12.8%. 
 
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad has a huge traffic mainly from corporate executives, whereas India’s pink city of Jaipur has more foreign and domestic tourists coming in. 
 
PwC had said that India is expected to see an average annual increase in infrastructure spend of 15.4%, amounting to around $14 billion over the next decade.

Flexible and affordable. These two words will more than any other impact how we deliver connectivity to the air transport industry in the next few years and beyond. 
 
Increasingly, legacy network systems are just not up to the job. Bandwidth-hungry applications running on a growing array of devices are pushing traditional networks to their limits. At peak times, performance and response times over the network can drop off dramatically, leaving end-users frustrated and applications dependent on high-speed algorithms compromised. 
 
What is needed the flexibility to cope with very agile connectivity requirements? Instead of fighting for a share of the fixed amount of bandwidth, what if each application could request only the bandwidth required and when it is required to maintain a pre-defined level of performance? In essence, each application would have bandwidth-on-demand. 
 
URGENCY 
We strongly believe that in future networks services will be defined by performance, not by bandwidth. This is the premise behind a concept called Software Defined Networking, or SDN as it’s better known in technology circles. It’s been talked about for a few years but is now taking on greater urgency as the digital world creates an increasingly large amount of data. 
 
Within data centres, this problem has been solved by virtualizing the server environment, which allows IT resources to be dynamically provisioned when needed. 
 
However, while virtualization has made dynamic storage and processing of big data possible, the transportation of data to and from end-user applications remains constrained by the limitations of the network. 
 
To solve this, SDN seeks to apply the same virtualization approach within the network. Instead of the command functions that control the movement of traffic being hard-coded into the underlying network hardware, they’re separated into a ‘logical software layer’, so that they can be independently managed through an SDN controller. 
 
It means the logical overlay can be configured without impacting the underlying physical network, providing full programmability of the entire network from a single location. 
 
Out goes the time-consuming need to manually change the fixed hardware, such as routers, and appliances every time a reconfiguration or modification of the network is needed. 
 
While the market is still in its embryonic state, businesses need to understand the benefits the radical shift in network technology will bring. SDN is going to have a big impact on network design in the future. It enables network automation, which makes it more dynamic and easier to manage large amounts of data, Capacity-constrained static networks with fixed bandwidth per site will in future no longer be viable in the digital world. SDN provides a simple way to control the network so it can function more like virtualized data centres. 
 
SDN has the potential to make significant improvements to service request response times, security, and reliability. It could also reduce costs by automating many processes that are currently done manually. The future network is about flexibility.

Owing to the mounting dues of loss-making carrier <keyword id="6358032" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpiceJet">SpiceJet</keyword>, the <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="47439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aai">AAI</keyword>) has decided to pull away credit facility relating to airport user fees, which it has to provide to the airline at all airports across India since Thursday midnight. 
 
A senior official at the AAI headquarters in New Delhi told The Times of India (TOI) that the office of the executive director (finance) has issued a circular to all airport authorities asking them to allow SpiceJet to operate only on cash-and-carry basis. 
 Currently, the airline is operating one international and 10 domestic flights out of Pune to <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword>, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Goa and Hyderabad, apart from Sharjah. 
 As Spicejet also plans to cut costs, it will operate 22-24 <keyword id="6357957" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Boeing">Boeing</keyword> planes until at least mid 2015, its chief operating officer told Reuters. 
Earlier in September, the airline also reduced its fleet by nearly a third of its original strength, but prior to this cut, SpiceJet had been operating 35 planes.
