The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) banned 138 betting/gambling websites and apps under section 69(A) of the IT Act, as they "were engaging in illegal money laundering &amp; were posing threat to the financial security of our nation," In 2022, The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had issued two advisories against advertisements of betting on digital media platforms and TV Channels. It had also warned against offshore betting platforms using news as a surrogate product and promoting betting in the garb of news. Football and Kabaddi are two sports that continue to see a lot of betting companies. Stake, an online casino, is the principal partner of the ISL teams Mumbai FC and Hyderabad FC. The India Affiliate Summit billed as the "largest performance marketing event in India" will be held in October 2023. Parimatch and Khelraja were among the esteemed speakers of the 2022 summit. IAMAI had recently stated that it is most suited to form the proposed self-regulatory organisation (SRO) for online gaming. In an interview given to Mint, the CEO of now-banned betting company Parimatch said that offshore betting companies do deposits of $ 1 billion every month or around INR one lakh crores per year. This makes the illegal betting and casino sector bigger than the legitimate online gaming industry. According to the State of India Gaming Report by Lumikai, the Indian gaming industry saw a revenue of just USD 2.6 billion in FY 2022. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has recently released a draft of rules for online gaming companies and invited feedback from various stakeholders. IAMAI said that the rules "are right on intention, but poor on scoping." Four of India's biggest gaming companies had in a letter to MeITY said that IAMAI did not consult them before making the statement public. Betting, casino companies find new advertising avenues despite govt ban

The <keyword id="1910227" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Super-League">Indian Super League</keyword>, India’s very own football league is going to start from October 12th, and as the nation gears up for the first football league, here is what you should know about it. 
 
Bringing Indian football out of hibernation 
The Indian Super league was founded in 2013 after seeing that many Indians are crazy about football craze, but sadly, have no national football league to follow. The Indian Super League aims to turn the table. 
 
It would function like Twenty20 cricket IPL and will comprise eight franchise teams, owned from people and companies across the country. The league will commence in October and end in December. 
 
Slugging it out 
Eight teams that will compete in this league are as follows: 
 
· Atlético de Kolkata, coached by Antonio López Habas, with Spain as the foreign draft. 
· Chennai Titans, coached by Marco Materazzi with Italy as the foreign draft. 
· Delhi Dynamos FC, coached by Harm van Veldhoven with Netherlands as the foreign draft. 
· FC Goa, coached by Fatorda Stadium Zico with Brazil as the foreign draft. 
· Kerala Blasters FC, coached by David James with England as the foreign draft. 
· Mumbai City FC, coached by Peter Reid with England as the foreign draft. 
· North East United FC, coached by Ricki Herbert with New Zealand as the foreign draft. 
· FC Pune City, coached by Franco Colomba with Italy as the foreign draft. 
 
Who’s who in the <keyword id="244888" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Isl">ISL</keyword> The league is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd, Star India Pvt. Ltd. and IMG Worldwide Inc. It would be broadcast exclusively on STAR Sports and will have Hero MotoCorp as the title sponsor; thus the name <keyword id="2430942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Indian-Super-League">Hero Indian Super League</keyword>. From Bollywood, we have John Abraham who co-owns the team North East United FC, Ranbir Kapoor who co-owns the team Mumbai City FC, Abhishek Bachchan who co-owns Chennai Titans, Salman Khan who co-owns FC Pune City, and Varun Dhawan who is the brand ambassador of FC Goa. Rules of the game 
Every year, the league would be played between October and December. Each team will play against all other teams twice on a home-and-away basis, almost like the Pro Kabaddi League. The top four teams will qualify for the finals. 
 
While building their teams, each team will have to sign: 
· At least seven foreigners, out of which two will be from the club and five will be from the foreign player draft; 
· One marquee player, which in the words of AIFF is "A foreign recruit who has represented his country in any of the continental championships like the European Championship, Copa America, African Nations Cup, Asian Cup, or FIFA World Cup will be called a marquee player;" and 
· 14 Indian domestic players, four of which have to be local players from the city the team belongs to.

Team owners’ investments in the ISL are worth having a look. Different teams have shelled out crores to buy foreign players—the date is given below: 
 
Goa: Rs 2.46 crore 
Chennai Titans: Rs 2.34 crore 
Atletico de Kolkata: Rs 2.17 crore

 <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> made it to the final by virtue of superior aggregate goal difference of 4-2. The first leg in Malaysia ended in a 1-1 draw. 
 
This is a historic day for Indian football as no club from the country has ever made it to the summit clash of the prestigious second-tier continental tournament. 
 
After the Malaysian team went ahead with Shafiq Rahim's 11th minute goal, Chhetri struck the equaliser in the 41st minute and put the side ahead in the 67th minute. Bengaluru's win was sealed when Spanish defender Juan Antonio Gonzalez Fernandez found the back of the net in the 75th minute. 
 
In front of a packed stadium, the hosts, who trailed 0-1 till the 41st minute, saw their skipper rising to the occasion as he nodded home a Eugenson Lyngdoh flag kick. Chhetri evaded the defence and timed his jump to perfection to bring the 'Blues' back in the match. 
 The significance of this achievement could be gauged by the fact that only two Indian football clubs - <keyword id="57671" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dempo-Sports-Club">Dempo Sports Club</keyword> of Goa and Kolkata giants East Bengal - had made it to the semi-finals of the tournament since its inception.

Bengaluru FC creates history by becoming the first Indian club to reach AFC Cup final

New Delhi, Mar 11 () Indian football team captain and star striker <keyword id="99507" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunil-Chhetri">Sunil Chhetri</keyword> on Thursday said he has tested positive for COVID-19, a development that is set to rule him out of the international friendly against Oman on March 25 in Dubai. He is also likely to miss the March 29 friendly against United Arab Emirates at the same venue. The Bengaluru FC star forward took to social media to post the update and said that he is feeling fine. "In a not-so-happy update, I've tested positive for COVID-19. In better news, I feel fine as I continue my recovery from the virus and should be back on a football pitch soon," <keyword id="268788" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhetri">Chhetri</keyword> wrote on his Twitter handle. "No better time to keep reminding everyone to continue taking all the safety precautions always." The 36-year-old was competing in the <keyword id="1910227" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Super-League">Indian Super League</keyword> (ISL) till last month in Goa in a bio-secure bubble. His campaign got over after Bengaluru FC failed to make the semifinals. The team's last game was on February 25, which Chhetri played and also scored a goal. Bengaluru FC were placed seventh on the table at the end of the league stage. The former champions logged 22 points after winning five matches, drawing seven and losing eight games. Chhetri, the second highest goal scorer in international football among active players, scored eight times in the 20 ISL games this season. As part of the preparation for the two matches against Oman and UAE, the national team is scheduled to assemble for a preparatory camp in Dubai from March 15. India last played an international match in November 2019, in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Afghanistan (in Tajikistan) and Oman (in Muscat). The Indian Super League (<keyword id="244888" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Isl">ISL</keyword>), which is touted to be a game changer for <keyword id="64" type="SPORT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Football">football</keyword>, has had quite a successful opening. The league scored a record reach of 74.7 million on its first day and the cumulative reach for the first week was a whopping 170.6 million. These reach figures are the second highest for any sports league, after the twenty-twenty cricket league, <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>. 
 Now these numbers speak volumes about the encouraging response the league has got from the viewers. Interestingly, <keyword id="6354632" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Social-media">social media</keyword> has played a key role in creating buzz around the league. Zafar Rais, CEO of MindShift Interactive says, “The digital era has put forward a platform for every property to reach a wider audience with an advantage of instant feedback. Indian Super League has strategically focused its campaign via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, garnering just about 70,000 mentions of the ISL on social media (majority of them on Twitter) in the last 15 days.”

Twitter followers were 54,284 and YouTube had 2,298,298 views and 3,772 subscribers (As of October 26, 2014). Compared to the 20-20 cricket league IPL, these numbers look miniscule, yet they are quite encouraging, considering this being the first year of the league. Moreover, these numbers are much ahead of India’s domestic football league, the I-League. 
 
Other than this, there are Facebook &amp; Twitter accounts of the 8 teams that are part of the Indian Super League, namely – Mumbai City FC, Atletico De Kolkata, Delhi Dynamos, Kerala Blasters, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, FC Pune and Northeast United FC.

There have been just about 70,000 mentions of the ISL on social media (majority of them on Twitter) in the last 15 days. The league’s follower count on Twitter is 1/29th of the fans of the EPL (English Premier League), and 1/14th of the fans of the IPL (Indian Premier League). So, it hasn’t really kicked off in India on the social media front as it would have expected.

With the general sentiment around the league being positive, males between the age group of 21-30 are the most who have used this hashtag. It is also more popular than the I-League, the traditional top division football league of India.

● According to the Mindshift Interactive report, there were about 113,178 tweets, 1.06 billion impressions and 68,483 mentions of the hashtag on the day of ISL launch. 
● These mentions of the hashtag have dropped considerably post launch day. 
● On the opening day of the league, 5 of the 7 trending topics in India were related to ISL. These are: #LetsFootball, #IndianSuperLeague, #atleticodekolkata, #MumbaiCityFC and Luis Garcia. 
● The Indian Super League is talked about in 50+ countries, including the likes of USA, UK, Indonesia and Brazil. 
 
Celebrity Promotions On Twitter 
 
The celebrity glitz has also helped the ISL generate buzz on social media platforms. Cricketers and film personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and John Abraham co-own franchises in the ISL. These celebrities and a few others have added to the ISL social media zing by mentioning it in their tweets. During October 7th-14, 2014, the ISL got 1100 twitter mentions by Priyanka Chopra, 900 mentions by Sachin Tendulkar, 840 mentions by Hrithik Roshan, 635 mentions by Sourav Ganguly, 440 mentions by Ranbir Kapoor, 400 mentions by Abhishek Bachchan and 130 mentions by John Abraham. 
 
Looking at these numbers, one can say that social media has helped create a good initial buzz for the league. Though there is a need for a lot more to be done, not just this season but in the forthcoming seasons, to take the ISL to the heights of other popular leagues like the IPL and EPL.

The Social Media Push For ISL

Indian cricketers are talking business like never before. While the earlier sport stars were happy endorsing a brand or start up a restaurant, the new breed of young cricketers are investing and opening their own startup companies. Early this month, we have reported on <keyword id="351" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Yuvraj-Singh">Yuvraj Singh</keyword>’s decision to become an investor to encourage young entrepreneurs and now we have seasoned cricketer <keyword id="6354486" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Virat-Kohli">Virat Kohli</keyword> starting his own chain of gyms and fitness centres. 
 
Virat Kohli has also started his apparel brand Wrogn , which is being sold exclusively on Myntra.com. 
 As per a news report by The Economic Times, one of Kohli's partners in the venture, Satya Sinha, said the total investment to launch 75 centers in three years is around Rs 190 crores. The gyms will be launched under the brand name Chisel. The brand is jointly owned by Kohli, Chisel Fitness and CSE, the sister concern of <keyword id="979436" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cornerstone-Sport-Entertainment">Cornerstone Sport &amp; Entertainment</keyword>, which is the agency that manages Kohli. "We will launch gyms of various sizes and with different facilities according to their locations. We are also in talks with international sports-based fitness experts to bring in their expertise," Sinha, director of Chisel Fitness, a Bangalore-based startup that specializes in corporate fitness told the ET. 
 
"The gyms are just a start. There are plans on the anvil to launch fitness inspired clothing lines and tech wearables in the future," Gaurav Marya, chairman of Franchise India, which is a commercial and marketing partner in this venture told the financial daily. 
 
The country's fitness industry comprising branded fitness chains and standalone gyms is pegged at around Rs 1,300 crore. 
 Earlier, Kohli had a minority stake valued at under Rs 1 crore a year in the FC Goa franchise where he was the co-owner. The right-hander had been mulling a foray into business ventures for a while now and the move comes after Indian ODI skipper M S Dhoni launched his line of gyms, SportsFit and <keyword id="2817820" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Delhi-Daredevils-player">Delhi Daredevils player</keyword> Yuvraj Singh invested an undisclosed amount as seed funding in a mobile phone-based beauty and wellness startup Vyomo.
