On the other hand, sales of spirits have picked up ever since Indians had to stay at home. So, have people shifted to premium alcoholic beverages or is this just a temporary blip? It could well be a temporary phenomenon as bars in India have been mostly shut for the last 18 months. There are few reasons for this change. One is that beer is widely consumed outdoors like bars, pubs, parties etc. This also has to do with the not so common Indian family culture of hoarding beer at home. United Spirits is the liquor giant in the country with the highest revenues and a $7 billion market capitalisation. “As the pandemic restricted mobility, in-home consumption and premiumisation increased – consumers discovered that drinking at home was safer and lighter on the wallet, leaving them with more to spend on better quality alcohol. Restricted overseas travel also resulted in a shift from duty-free to duty-paid purchases,” said Anand Kripalu, managing director and chief executive officer of United Spirits, in the company’s FY21 annual report. Spirit industry pick up while beer business slows down Analysts say that the beer industry has been affected due to lack of on-premise drinking since the pandemic. “Beer has also been severely affected due to work from home, which in turn has marred on-premise volumes,” said a report by Elara Securities. The report stated that the beer industry volumes have declined 30% in FY21 primarily due to COVID-19 lockdown in the months of April-July 2020. But hope floats ⁠— as infections fall and vaccinations rise ⁠— that bars will reopen again and beer will be back in demand. It helped these companies that some states including Delhi have announced home delivery of liquor due to COVID-19. However, even that has not helped beer sales because retailers like to push for high-margin hard liquor, said analysts at Elara Securities. Business has been so good for Radico Khaitan ⁠— which sells brands like Magic Moments, Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin and 8 PM whisky⁠ — it has repaid most of its debt and the stock has more than doubled in the last one year. “Radico Khaitan is the leader in vodka in India – with over 45% volume and value market share – and an emerging competitor in <keyword id="6396190" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="whiskey" source="Orion">whiskey</keyword>, brandy, rum and gin. It has seen a steady improvement in cash generation and repaid most of its debt,” said a report by Goldman Sachs on August 10 while it initiated coverage on the company’s stock with a “buy” rating. The market value of Globus Spirits, the company behind Country Club and French Castle, has grown nearly 6 times in the last one year. Amarjeet Maurya, assistant vice president, mid caps at Angel Broking said the broking firm is positive on the company’s stock because of healthy revenue growth of nearly 61% and profit growth of close to 197% in June quarter. <ul><li><keyword id="1451171" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IFB-Agro">IFB Agro</keyword>'s share price fell nearly 6% after the company told stock-exchanges in a <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/1fd3bcaa-b5b2-46c7-b85d-2bcec48e3f73.pdf">statement </a> that armed goons attacked its <keyword id="62373" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Distillery">distillery</keyword> in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas.</li><li><keyword id="2056433" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ifb-agro-industries">IFB Agro Industries</keyword> sought help from the CM <keyword id="43868" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mamata-Banerjee">Mamata Banerjee</keyword> after an alleged attack on one of its distilleries in South 24 Parganas.</li><li>According to the company, the “unidentified hooligans” also damaged the CCTV cameras, computers, medical room and other facilities in the factory.</li><li>This came at a time when the company was preparing for normalization after opening up its second distillery in Dankuni.</li></ul>IFB Agro’s share price fell nearly 6% in the early minutes of trading after the company told <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/1fd3bcaa-b5b2-46c7-b85d-2bcec48e3f73.pdf">stock-exchanges in a statement</a> that armed goons attacked its distillery in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on June 25. The company said it had sought help from the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after police seemed helpless. It said that at around 7:40 am on Thursday, a group of more than 150 “armed goons” forcibly entered its distillery at Noorpur, where they beat up the security guards and practically held other employees on duty as hostage. According to the company, the “unidentified hooligans” also damaged the CCTV cameras, computers, medical room and other facilities in the factory. The company claims that its distillery was asked to shut down and the employees were forced to vacate the factory at gunpoint by the attackers. “Necessary complaint was made to the local police station, but they seemed helpless. The distillery has been closed since then. We have sought help from the chief minister of West Bengal and also from finance, commerce and industry minister of the state of West Bengal,” the company said. This came at a time when the company was preparing for normalization after opening up its second distillery in Dankuni— which was shut due to the prolonged shutdown caused by the coronavirus and then Cyclone Amphan. The company had reopened its plant at Noorpur in South 24 Parganas on June 16, and due to the fear of the virus, the company was also working with only<a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/258a95e9-8152-4544-ac88-3cc937d67ce4.pdf"> 50% workforce at Country Spirit bottling units</a>. In late March IFB Agro Industries share price took a massive hit because of the coronavirus pandemic, subdued sales and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/more-firms-across-sectors-partially-resume-operations-in-lockdown-3-0/articleshow/75649123.cms">shutting down liquor shops and its factories</a>. The company saw a high demand for its liquor products after the government reopened shops around the country in May. IFB Agro's share price falls by 6% as company says armed goons attacked its distillery in West Bengal

Indian stocks rose for the third day on Thursday as a global rally in overseas markets souped up sentiment on Dalaal Street and investors remained net buyers in the wake of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Central+Bank">Central Bank</a>'s whopping 50 bps rate cut. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nifty">Nifty</a> reclaimed the 8,000 point mark after more than a week and the index traded at 7,997 points, up 49 in early deals. Lupin, Idea, UltraTech, Ambuja and Sun Pharma were the top five gainers on the index while HCL Tech, Tata motors, BHEL , Tata Steel and Zee Entertainment slipped in trade. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 42/8 on the <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> where HCL Tech, Lupin and Infosys were the top traded stocks on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=National+Stock+Exchange">National Stock Exchange</a>. 
 
The mood was bright and shiny in the broader market with the CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 Indices edging 0.6 percent higher. Gains were sharper on the CNX Mid Cap and the CNX Small Cap Indices. The sectoral space was a bit muted with the CNX Pharma index being the top gainer. The Bank Nifty and CNX PSU Bank indices edged up while CNX IT and CNX Media benchmarks slipped in trade. 
 
The sentiment was bullish on the Bombay Stock Exchange with the Sensex jumped 228 points, or 0.9 percent, to 26,392 points. GAIL, Hindustan Unilever, NTPC and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra shone in trade. Tata Motors, BHEL and Maruti slipped in trade. The Sensex had an Advance-Decline Ratio at 26/4 and HDFC, Infosys and Lupin were the most active shares on the Sensex. 
 
Nearly all sectors traded in positive territory in the futures and options space except for Technology and banking futures which remained under selling pressure. Bharti Infratel, Reliance Communications and Indian Cements were the top gaining futures. IDFC Futures traded minus their banking unit after the infrastructure financing giant gave investors one share each of the proposed bank unit for every one share held in IDFC. HCL Tech and Mind Tree futures were the others that slipped in trade in the derivatives segment where bulls held sway with 134 futures rising compared with 29 that fell. 
 
The tone was bullish in the wider market with 1,311 stocks gaining compared with 464 that fell below their Wednesday's close on the Bombay Stock Exchange. 
 
Gokaldas Exports, Shriram EPC, EIH Ltd. and Globus Spirits were the early entrants on the volume buzzers list.
