Global Indian Leaders of The Year 2023 as per World Brand Affairs

New Delhi, Mar 1 () Taiwanese tyre major Maxxis Group is betting big on India, where it plans to build up to five factories, as it expects the country to play a crucial role in its chase to become a top five global player by 2025, according to a senior company official. The company, which clocked revenue of around USD 4 billion in 2019, is currently the world's 9th largest tyre brand and sees India along with Indonesia to play significant part in meeting its 2025 target. The company is investing USD 400 million on its first manufacturing plant at Sanand in Gujarat, where it is working to hike output to 60,000 units of two-wheeler tyres per day from the current 20,000 units a day, as part of the project's phase I expansion. "Maxxis has a group goal of growing into the top five globally in next five years. We have accomplished much in East Asia, Southeast Asia and have significant presence in Europe and in American market. "The next major international markets for us will be two places -- one is India and the another Indonesia, the major two-wheeler markets in the world," Maxxis India Marketing Head Bing-Lin Wu told . He further said, "in achieving the group goal of 2025, India will play a pivotal role. We have estimated a certain output from the Indian market alone that will help us to achieve that target. On backward calculations four or five production units will be the minimum requirement to achieve that." When asked about investments and timeline for setting up these plants, he said, "we will start a discussion very soon." Also, he said the investments on the new plants would be comparably lesser than on its first plant at Sanand where the company has already made "some heavy advanced investments" on machinery for processes such as mixing, vulcanising and calendering and the "capacity of one machine is so huge that it can supply to six to seven production lines". "In the subsequent plants, we will try to make an optimisation between our investments and utilising the current capacity of our Sanand plant," Wu said. At present, Maxxis India supplies two-wheeler tyres to Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha and Suzuki from its Sanand plant, while it supplies four-wheeler tyres to Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Jeep. Commenting on Sanand plant expansion, Lu said, "we have used half of the land (106 acres) we got from the Gujarat government for the planned 60,000 units capacity. The other half of the land, we are still deciding whether to put another 60,000 units capacity of two-wheeler or we are going to put four-wheeler tyre production." Maxxis has set a target of garnering 15 per cent of two-wheeler tyre market in India by 2023. Lu said the company expects the Indian market to grow to around 10 crore units of two-wheeler tyres per year and if the company achieves its target of 15 per cent market share "we will more or less utilise the entire capacity of our Gujarat plant and anything beyond will require expansion of production in India". On four-wheeler tyre segment, he said the group's 2025 target and expectations from India are pinned on both two and four-wheeler tyres segment "but volume-wise, definitely two-wheeler tyres in India has more advantage than four-wheeler tyre business". When asked about growth prospects for 2020, Lu said Maxxis expects to continue with its growth momentum from last year, despite the automobile industry suffering a downturn as it was able to enhance its original equipment manufacturer (OEM) business share. J&K Tyre partners with National Automotive Test Tracks for the testing of its products

Mumbai, Apr 13 () The coronavirus outbreak and inventory correction before transition to BS-VI emission norms are expected to pull down aggregate revenue of some of the auto and auto ancillary companies by 26 per cent in March quarter even as the near-term weakness in demand is likely to continue as COVID-19 persists, a report said on Monday.Besides, the higher discounts and operating de-leverage are expected to contract aggregate margins by 240 basis point year-on-yea, Emkay Global Financial Services, said in its report on the auto and auto ancillaries. Most of the manufacturing activities, including in the auto sector, are suspended since March 25 when the government implemented a 21-day lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.States like Maharashtra, Punjab, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal have already announced the extension of lockdown till April 30. "Aggregate revenue (in March quarter) is likely to decline 26 per cent year-on-year, owing to the Covid-19 outbreak and inventory correction before BS6 transition. Firms that are likely to record a steep fall in revenue are deep cyclicals or companies with global linkages," Emkay Global said.The March quarter topline of the companies covered under the report are likely to be weak with 28 per cent year-on-year fall , it said adding the decline will be sharp for deep cyclicals and companies with global linkages.The auto makers included in its analysis are Tata Motors, M&amp;M Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motors, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors, Escorts and Atul Auto. Apollo Tyres, Amara raja, Exide, Motherson Sumi and Bharat Forge were among the ancillary makers. The report said it expects the rebound in sales to be sooner in passenger vehicles, premium motorcycles and tractors segment."Although near-term weakness is expected to continue as the Covid-19 outbreak drags, a gradual recovery is likely from H2FY21 led by a low base, better rural sentiment and pent-up demand. Over 75% of smartphones in India are imported from China. </li><li>Chemical and Agro Chemicals – 10-50% of raw materials are sourced from China depending on the product. Companies are trying to reduce their dependence on China by identifying other countries to source from. For instance, 28% of all air conditioners in India are imported. A quarter of your car, 70% of your TV, 90% of antibiotics come from China

<ul><li>Tata Motors finally has a ‘BUY’ rating from CLSA after three years. </li><li>For the quarter ending in September, Jaguar Land Rover sold 128,953 cars, slightly down (-0.7%) compared to the same period a year ago.</li><li>Investors believe that the downtrend in sales may finally be coming to an end.</li><li>The expected stability in <keyword id="1159034" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="JLR-sales">JLR sales</keyword> has given hope to many ancillary companies like tyres, batteries and other auto parts makers.</li></ul>Months of despair have given way to some good news from Tata Motors. It’s British luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover’s sales seem to be stabilsing. At least, that’s what the street believes. After three years of having a ‘SELL’ rating, Tata Motors has finally been upgraded to ‘BUY’ rating by global broking firm CLSA. Tata Motors’ share price spiked over 13% after the company’s second-quarter earnings.

 Between July and September 2019, Tata Motors reported a net loss of ₹216.5 crore but that was still a massive improvement from the same quarter in the previous year⁠— when the loss was nearly five times more. For the quarter ending in September, Jaguar Land Rover retail sales nearly the same (down 0.7%) as a year earlier⁠— but the losses were less because the company had cut costs. Jaguar Land Rover saw a 24.3% jump in its sales in China, which is a big market for the company. “JLR’s volume is showing signs of bottoming-out on a low base in China and the ramp-up of the recently upgraded Evoque model—the start of defender sales in 4QFY20 should provide a further boost,” the CLSA report said. Earlier this year, global rating agencies Fitch Ratings and Moody’s both had downgraded Tata Motors with a negative outlook. In June 2019, Jaguar Land Rover retail sales was down by 9.6% as compared to the same month the previous year. In May 2019 too, the company had seen a 12% decrease as compared to the same month in the previous year. “Against challenging market headwinds, for the third consecutive month we have achieved double-digit growth in China, benefitting from our local turnaround plan and performing ahead of the broader market. We have also outperformed shrinking markets in other regions,” said Felix Brautigam, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Commercial Officer in a statement. JLR cheer is spreading The market excitement is visible not just with Tata Motors’ share price but that of many ancillary companies in the business. For the <keyword id="34478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry">auto industry</keyword> which has been hit by a slowdown for a year now, the comeback of Tata Motors and JLR is a positive sign for many others. Stocks like Bharat Forge, Motherson Sumi, and Exide, which make parts for automobiles, are also celebrating what they believe is a light at the end of the tunnel. Motherson Sumi, the largest manufacturer of automotive wiring harnesses and mirrors for passenger cars, too saw its stock trading at a 10% jump on Tuesday afternoon.

 With the festive sales, the October report of the auto industry is also expected to finally get a sigh of relief for the players. New entrants like MG Hector delivered 700 cars on Dhanteras while luxury car Mercedes Benz delivered 600 cars on the festive day. “Passenger vehicle sales, which were in the doldrums since late last year, have shown positive sales trajectory this year in comparison to the off-take witnessed during Dhanteras 2018”, reported IANS. "In terms of passenger vehicle sales, we have witnessed a similar off-take pattern to last year's Dhanteras day," Vinkesh Gulati, Vice President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) told IANS.

<keyword id="1587241" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alliance-Tire">Alliance Tire</keyword> may see exit of <keyword id="138953" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kohlberg-Kravis-Roberts-Co">Kohlberg Kravis Roberts &amp; Co</keyword> (KKR), which holds 90% stake in the company. 
 This could be biggest ever exit by an <keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-equity">private equity</keyword> from an Indian firm. 
 ET reported that Japan's <keyword id="1689948" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sumitomo-group">Sumitomo Group</keyword>, Germany's Continental Tires and France's Michelin Group have been sounded out as some PE-led consortiums. 
 
If the America-based KKR quits, it will leave with 30% Internal Rate of Return (IRR). 
 
Alliance Tire, which was founded in 2006 by Ashok Mahansaria and his son Yogesh Mahansaria, is world's fifth largest, off-highway tyre maker. 
 
Alliance Tire is spread in over 120 nations and was founded with the backing from Warburg Pincus. 
 
It has research and development centres in Israel, the US and India. 
 
Reportedly, the tyre industry is facing weak macro environment and tariff wars. 
 
HSBC noted that that the present environment has been tough for global off-highway tyre producers.

PE giant Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co may sell 90% stake in Alliance Tire!

Chairman of the <keyword id="44373" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aditya-Birla-Group">Aditya Birla group</keyword>, <keyword id="6354955" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kumar-mangalam-birla">Kumar Mangalam Birla</keyword> said they are going to list Mauritius-based holding company for carbon black <keyword id="1629179" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SKI-Carbon-Black">SKI Carbon Black</keyword> (India) Pvt Ltd in overseas markets, after consolidating the business. 
 The company will be either listed in <keyword id="117776" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="London-Stock-Exchange">London Stock Exchange</keyword> or New York Stock Exchange and it will take at least two years. 
 
Carbon black is a raw material used to make tyres and ink. 
 
The SKI Carbon Black’s listing would be the first listing by the group in the overseas market after Birla took over in 1995. 
 
Under Birla, the company went on to become world's largest carbon black maker with 2-million tonne capacity a year. 
 
Experts point out that after the listing, company will get a better leverage ratio and capital to expand both in India and overseas. 
 
Reportedly, in 2013, Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd had divested its carbon black business to SKI Carbon Black (India) Pvt. Ltd, for Rs 1,451 crore. 
The company had then said in a filing to the BSE the Aditya Birla Nuvo's carbon black business, by itself, accounts for merely 2% of the global industry capacity. 
 
Moreover, in view of the company's capital commitment towards funding growth of its other businesses, it is extremely challenging for the company to become a global carbon black player.
