<p>Global markets are rallying strong on Monday morning. </p><p>Near 8:02 a.m. ET, US indexes were up more than 1% across the board in futures trading, with Dow futures up 171 points, S&amp;P 500 futures up 19 points, and Nasdaq futures up 46 points.</p><p>In Europe, the DAX in Germany and the FTSE in London were up by more than 1%, while the benchmark Euro Stoxx 50 rallied 2.2%.</p><p>Meanwhile, the British pound is tanking, down more than 2% to $1.4058 in its biggest drop against the dollar since 2010. The drop came after <span>news Sunday that Mayor Boris Johnson of London would campaign for Britain to leave the European Union.</span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Investing.com" title_caption="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56cb05776e97c630008b894d-960/screen shot 2016-02-22 at 7.55.41 am.png"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Investing.com</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span>This adds to uncertainty about the country's future within the bloc, with several analysts agreeing that a so-called Brexit would be economically negative for Britain and the EU.</span></p><p>And as is becoming standard practice, crude oil is sharply higher with stocks. West Texas Intermediate crude futures jumped 4% to as high as $33 per barrel in New York, a level it has not reached in about three weeks.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Investing.com" title_caption="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56cb05a62e526519008b87ef-960/screen shot 2016-02-22 at 7.56.56 am.png"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Investing.com</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><span></span>"For now, there's enough two-way action in crude oil prices to suggest that we may be forming a messy base, replacing a downtrend with range-trading at least," wrote Kit Juckes at Societe Generale in a note.</p><p>In other words, the worst of the market volatility may be over. </p><p>But not so if you share John Hussman's view that stocks could fall as much as 50% from the peak in a way that won't happen suddenly. Global markets are rallying

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="http://www.investing.com/indices/us-30-futures">Investing.com</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Major global markets and US stock futures were weaker on Tuesday after some ugly news out of China.  </p><p>Near 7:10 a.m. ET, Dow futures were down 122 points, S&amp;P 50 futures were down 14 points, and Nasdaq futures were down 33 points - all by less than 1%. On Monday, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/closing-bell-may-2-2016-5">stocks rose</a> steadily into the close with the Dow finishing up 117 points.</p><p>To catch you up on the big markets news so far:</p><ul><li>Chinese manufacturing data showed the sector slowed in April. UK manufacturing also contracted, as the PMI fell below 50 for the first time in three years. </li><li>The Reserve Bank of Australia <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/reserve-bank-of-australia-record-low-cash-rate-2016-5">cut its cash rate</a> by 25 basis points to a record low of 1.75%. That sent the Australian dollar down as much as 1% against the US dollar. </li></ul><p>European stocks dropped following the news out of China, with the Stoxx Europe 600 falling by as much as 1.7%. And so, "China concerns" is an explanation we're starting to see again for the sell-off on Tuesday.</p><p>The Dax was also down 1.7%, while the Nikkei fell 3.1%.</p><p>The US economic-data calendar is light. Auto sales numbers for April will roll in throughout the day, and they're expected to show a rebound after an unexpected dip in March.</p><p>This would reassure economists that consumer confidence and spending on big-ticket items remains robust, following a record year for car sales. </p><p>In earnings, Halliburton reported a <a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/news/halliburton-posts-bigger-quarterly-loss-105721975.html">bigger-than-forecast loss</a> of $2.41 billion, or $2.81 per share. The world's second-largest oilfield services company was slammed with nearly $3 billion in asset impairment charges, among others. Global markets are down

<p>The big news in markets this evening is the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/cbrt-decision-2014-1">Turkish central bank decision</a>.</p>
<p>They raised rates MUCH more than expected in an attempt to stem the decline of the Turkish Lira.</p>
<p>The shockingly big move is rippling across all global markets.</p>

Global Market Liftoff

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Global markets are selling off on Monday morning.</p><p>US stock futures are sharply lower at the start of the week and look set to extend Friday's sell-off when trading starts.</p><p>At 7:30 a.m. ET, Dow futures were down more than 210 points, S&amp;P 500 futures were down 35 points (or 1.85%), and Nasdaq futures were off 146 points, or 3%.</p><p>Stocks fell on Friday after we got the January <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-jobs-report-january-2016-2016-2">jobs report</a>, which missed on the headline with 151,000 new jobs, but which also saw the unemployment rate fall to 4.9%, and some wage growth. </p><p>Major indexes across the world were also dark red, including Greece's ASE Index, which was down nearly 6% and touched the weakest level in about 26 years. </p><p>Crude oil was also lower, with West Texas Intermediate crude in New York hitting the $30 per barrel mark, down nearly 3%. This weekend, OPEC members Saudi Arabia and Venezuela met on Sunday but there was no evidence that any definitive steps would be taken towards more meetings to talk about production levels, according to Reuters. </p><p>Meanwhile, gold continued to get a strong safety bid after Friday's rally, jumping nearly $20 an ounce, or about 1.7% to as high as $1,178. US treasuries were also rallying, and so their yields fell. The benchmark 10-year note's yield was down about 3 basis points to 1.1805%. </p><p>Stock markets in China remain closed for the new year celebrations.</p><p>There's no major US economic data on deck today, with focus this week being on Federal Reserve chairwoman Janet Yellen's semi-annual two-day testimony on Capital Hill from Wednesday. Global markets are getting slammed

<p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Alexander Demianchuk</span></p><p class="caption">A simulation of global market activity on Thursday, which is seeing both stocks and bonds get crushed.</p>It's a sea of red on Thursday, with stock and bond markets around the world taking big losses amid mounting investor uncertainty.<p>US stocks saw weakness across the board after the release of economic data that was weaker than expected. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/adp-private-payrolls-jobs-report-june-2017-7">Private payrolls rose less than expected</a> while job creation in May was revised downward. In addition, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/initial-jobless-claims-july-6-2017-2017-7">initial jobless claims unexpectedly jumped</a>, adding to an increasingly murky US economic picture.</p><p>The <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/index/S&amp;P_500">S&amp;P 500</a> dropped 0.5% at 11:05 a.m. Eastern, while the Dow lost 0.3%. The tech-heavy <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/index/Nasdaq_Composite">Nasdaq Composite</a> index declined 0.8%, once again highlighting its recent propensity for greater price swings.</p><p>US Treasuries also got in on the selling action as yields climbed more than six basis points to 2.39%, bringing their increase to 25 basis points over the past eight days.</p><p>The selling activity spilled over from Europe, where the <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/index/Stoxx_Europe_600">Stoxx Europe 600</a> index slipped 0.7%. Global markets are getting crushed

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>FinViz</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Global markets are getting smoked again.</p><p>Dow futures are down 315 points, S&amp;P 500 futures are down 40 points, and Nasdaq futures are down 93 points.</p><p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/eu-markets-open-sept-1-2015-9">It's a bloodbath in Europe</a> with Britain's FTSE, Germany's DAX, France's CAC 40, and Spain's IBEX all down by more than 2%.</p><p>Asian markets closed deep in the red with Japan's Nikkei plunging 3.8%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng falling 2.2%, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinese-stocks-got-destroyed-today-september-1-2015-9">China's Shanghai Composite tumbling 1.3%</a>.</p><p>Here's a quick round up of the key headlines we've gotten since US markets closed on Monday.</p><ul><li><strong>China's is slowing</strong>. China's official manufacturing PMI fell from 50.0 in July to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-released-data-on-slowing-economy-2015-8">49.7 in August</a>, the lows reading since August 2012. The unofficial Caixin-Markit manufacturing PMI slipped to 47.3 in August from 47.8 in July, signaling the sharpest contraction since March 2009.</li><li><strong>Europe is slowing</strong>. The eurozone manufacturing PMI slipped to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/european-manufacturing-pmi-for-august-italy-spain-germany-2015-9">52.3 in August</a>from 52.5 in July. Italy, Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, and Austria all experienced deterioration in growth. Meanwhile, Frane's PMI fell to a four-month low of 48.3, which reflects outright contraction.</li><li><strong>The world is slowing</strong>. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/south-korean-exports-august-economic-bellwhether-2015-9">Korean exports crashed 14.7%</a> in August from a year ago, reflecting the clearest sign that the world economy has hit a snag. This number was much worse than the 5.9% decline expected, and it was also the biggest drop since August 2009. Korea is a major supplier of automobiles, electronics, and petrochemicals to the world. Global markets are melting down

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Investing.com" title_caption="Gold looks unstoppable right now" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/56bc7c1a6e97c619008b6840-960/screen shot 2016-02-11 at 7.06.43 am copy.png"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Investing.com</span></p><p class="caption">Gold looks unstoppable right now</p></div><p></p></div></div>Here we go again. </p><p>On Thursday, major global stock markets were sharply lower, with US futures also deep in the red ahead of the market open.</p><p>Near 6:51 a.m. ET, Dow futures were down more than 300 points (2%), S&amp;P 500 futures were down 37 points (2%), and Nasdaq futures were down 90 points (2%). </p><p>Investors were piling into gold for safety, with futures up 3%, or a whopping $36.30 an ounce to as high as $1,231.50.</p><p>US treasuries were also getting a huge bid, pushing the yield on the benchmark 10-year note down 12 basis points to as low as 1.581%, a level it last touched in late 2012. </p><p>Later Thursday, Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen will continue her semi-annual testimony in Congress.</p><p>At her <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/janet-yellen-congress-testimony-february-2016-2">first appearance yesterday</a>, Yellen noted that the Fed is closely watching developments in financial markets for possible downside risks to the economy. She did not rule out an interest-rate hike in March, but said the Fed was willing to slow down its rate increases if the economic data indicate that this would be appropriate.</p><p>In all, her assessment of the economy was more or less unchanged: the economy is still expanding at a moderate pace, and the labor market is robust. Still, the Fed has been watching all that's happening in financial markets and may adjust its policy plans if the economic data don't hold up.</p><p>Meanwhile, the Swedish National Bank cut its key interest rate further into negative territory overnight to boost domestic demand. </p><p>Crude oil is also getting slammed, with West Texas Intermediate crude futures in New York falling nearly 4% to as low as $26.32 per barrel.</p><p>And once again, banking stocks in Europe were taking a hit, with Societe Generale shares dropping 12% after it reported earnings that were below expectations. Global markets are collapsing

Equity benchmarks gave up early gains on Wednesday and were later trading lower in tandem with weak global markets.<br /><br />The 30-share <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword> <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword>, which climbed 82.36 points to 59,113.66 in early trade, later fell in the negative territory. Similarly, the broader NSE <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> had advanced 27.9 points to 17,605.40 in initial trade but failed to carry forward the momentum.<br /><br />Both the benchmark indices were trading lower later, with the Sensex falling 146.56 points to 58,884.74 and the Nifty declining by 43.95 points to 17,533.55.<br /><br />From the Sensex pack, <keyword id="106317" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="asian-paints" source="Orion">Asian Paints</keyword>, Titan, Larsen &amp; Toubro, Maruti, Hindustan Unilever, Nestle, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and State Bank of India were among the major laggards.<br /><br />On the other hand, <keyword id="46717" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indusind-bank" source="Orion">IndusInd Bank</keyword>, <keyword id="44642" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sun-pharma" source="Orion">Sun Pharma</keyword>, <keyword id="6355199" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-industries" source="Orion">Reliance Industries</keyword>, ITC and Power Grid were the gainers.<br /><br />In Asia, markets in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong quoted lower, while Seoul traded in the green in mid-session deals.<br /><br />The Wall Street had ended lower on Tuesday.<br /><br />The BSE benchmark climbed 257.43 points or 0.44 per cent to settle at 59,031.30 on Tuesday. Stock markets give up early gains; in tandem with weak global markets

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Via Business Insider Australia" title_caption="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/568a1d01c08a80d7118b6677-960/csi-300-jan-4-2016.jpg"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Via Business Insider Australia</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>It's 2016's first day of trading, and markets around the world are getting slammed.</p><p>US stock market futures are falling, with Dow futures down 263 points, S&amp;P futures down 29 points, and Nasdaq futures down 74 points.</p><p>Europe is getting smoked, with Britain's FTSE 100 down 1.9%, Germany's DAX down 3.5%, and France's CAC 40 down 2.2%.</p><p>The big headline maker was China, where the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-is-already-spooking-markets-2016-1">CSI 300 stock market index crashed 7%</a> before markets were halted for the day.</p><p>Japan's Nikkei and Hong Kong's Hang Seng followed China lower, closing down 3.0% and 2.7%, respectively.</p><p>New data out of China confirmed that manufacturing in the world's second-largest economy was still contracting. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-manufacturing-sector-ended-2015-wallowing-in-the-doldrums-2016-1">Caixin-Markit manufacturing PMI</a> unexpectedly fell to 48.2 in December from 48.6 in November. The official <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-pmi-contracts-for-a-fifth-month-in-december-2015-12">NBS manufacturing PMI</a> stood at 49.7 in December. Any reading below 50 signals contraction.</p><p>"This shows that the forces driving an economic recovery have encountered obstacles and the economy is facing a greater risk of weakening," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-manufacturing-sector-ended-2015-wallowing-in-the-doldrums-2016-1">Caixin chief economists He Fan said</a>. "More fluctuations in global markets are expected now that the US Federal Reserve has started raising interest rates. The government needs to pay more attention to external risk factors in the short term and fine-tune macroeconomic policies accordingly so the economy does not fall off a cliff."</p><p>Perhaps it's the risk of a "fall off a cliff" scenario that has traders and investors rattled.</p><p>Elsewhere in the markets, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/oil-price-january-4-2016-1">oil continues to trade with a lot of volatility</a>. I am the one who knocks."</p></div><p></p></div></div>Stock markets <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-markets-sell-off-aug-24-2015-2015-8">around the world are getting bludgeoned</a>, and there is no shortage of reasons to explain why.</p><p>One big theme this year has been the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/commodity-prices-just-slumped-to-their-lowest-level-since-1999-2015-8">long-time sell-off of commodities</a>, which are more sensitive to the demands of the economy. For the most part, analysts had tied this sell-off to the slowdown in China's economy, the second largest in the world. </p><p>Interestingly, the S&amp;P 500 has managed to decouple from commodities.</p><p>But with stocks tumbling, are we at risk of a re-coupling? Because if commodity prices don't pick up, than stock prices will have to go down.</p><p>"Markets are afraid of further economic weakness in China, further pain in global commodity markets and uncertain about Fed and PBoC policy - what they will do and what the impact will be," Societe Generale's Kit Juckes wrote on Monday. "<strong>The divergence between global commodity prices and equities is not a new theme but the danger now is that they begin to re-correlate - as they did when the dotcom bubble burst in 2000 and what had previously been an emerging market crisis became a US recession</strong>."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Societe Generale</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Juckes offered this chart overlaying the S&amp;P 500 with the CRB commodities index. He doesn't say it, but if we were to assume the lines were to meet up again, the S&amp;P 500 would have to fall by around 50%. For global markets, this chart is 'the danger'

The <keyword id="20150760" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-Global-Market-Intelligence" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence">S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence</keyword> has upwardly revised <keyword id="22162557" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="GDP-forecasts" source="keywords">GDP forecasts</keyword> for <keyword id="19894886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="China" source="keywords">China</keyword> in its latest report. But even with the revised forecast, China's GDP growth will be substantially lower than that of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>.<br /><br />According to S&amp;P, India's GDP is projected to grow at a rate of 6.7 per cent in 2024 and 6.3 per cent in 2025. In contrast, China's <keyword id="19931030" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="economy" source="keywords">economy</keyword> is now forecasted to grow at 5.0 per cent in 2024 and forecast moderately raised to 4.6 per cent from 4.5 per cent.<br /><br />The agency revised China's estimate due to policy tailwinds expected to extend into next year and a gradual improvement in private-sector sentiment within the country.<br /><br />However, the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) in its monetary policy has raised the GDP forecast of India from 7 per cent to 7.2 per cent for FY25.<br /><br />RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said, "The real GDP growth for the current financial year 2024-25 is projected at 7.2 per cent with Q1 at 7.3 per cent, Q2 at 7.2 per cent, Q3 at 7.3 per cent, and Q4 at 7.2 per cent. The risks are evenly balanced."<br /><br />RBI Governor further said that, "The GDP growth projection, we have increased it from 7 per cent to 7.2 per cent and the inflation projection, the average for the year, we have retained it at 4.5 per cent as it was in the last MPC meeting."<br /><br />The <keyword id="22162558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-Global-Market" source="keywords">S&amp;P Global Market</keyword> Intelligence however has lowered the growth forecasts of US, Canada, Brazil, and Japan for 2024, while it has revised upward the forecasts for China, the Eurozone, the UK, and Russia.<br /><br />Additionally, the <keyword id="22162559" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-growth-forecast" source="keywords">global growth forecast</keyword> for 2025 has edged up from 2.7 per cent to 2.8 per cent, with higher forecasts for some of the larger countries, including the US and China.<br /><br />Regarding Japan, the agency maintains that the next rate hike by the Bank of Japan is most likely to occur in October 2024, given the economic and inflationary headwinds.<br /><br />In the Asia-Pacific region, the agency predicts that real GDP growth, excluding mainland China and Japan, will remain broadly stable at 4.4 per cent in 2024 and 2025, driven by robust domestic demand and recovering exports. A pickup in overseas demand is seen as the key growth driver for the region in 2024.<br />

S&P Global Market raised growth forecast of China, still significantly lower than India

<p>On Wednesday, the Dow surged 0.9% to 15,676, and the S&amp;P 500 increased 1.2% to 1,725. Both <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/closing-bell-september-18-2013-2013-9">closed at all-time highs</a>.</p>
<p>That was followed by a major rally in Asia.</p>

<li>Japan's Nikkei jumped 1.8%.</li>
<li>Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped 1.8%.</li>
<li>Australia's S&amp;P/ASX jumped 1.1%.</li>
</ul>
<p>And Europe is blasting higher early in its trading session.</p>

<li>Britain's FTSE is up 1.4%.</li>
<li>France's CAC 40 is up 1.2%.</li>
<li>Germany's DAX is up 1.3%.</li>
<li>Spain's IBEX is up 1.3%.</li>

<p>U.S. stock market futures are pointing  modestly higher.</p>

Global Markets Are Going Gangbusters

<p>Even after Thursday's 175 point (1%) plunge in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, markets continue to tumble. Currently Dow futures are down 88 points and S&amp;P 500 futures are down 11 points.</p>
<p>Investors and traders are rapidly moving from risky assets like stocks and emerging market securities to safe assets like U.S. Treasury securities.  Indeed, the flood into Treasuries has sent the yield on the 10-year note all the way down to 2.72%.  Not long ago, it was above 3%.</p>
<p>Asia got slammed with the Nikkei tanking 1.9% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng falling 1.2%.</p>
<p>Europe is deep in the red with Britain's FTSE 100 down 0.9%, Germany's DAX down 1.2%, France's CAC 40 down 1.4%, and Spain's IBEX down 2.7%.</p>
<p><strong>Emerging Markets</strong></p>
<p>The top concern today seems to be the emerging market economies, where it is a total rout in the currency markets.  The <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-24/contagion-spreads-in-emerging-markets-as-crises-grow.html">Turkish lira has tumbled to a record low and South Africa's rand is at a 5-1/2 year low</a>.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, it's continued madness in Argentina where policymakers <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/argentina-lifts-capital-controls-2014-1">unexpectedly announced an easing of capital controls</a> a day after the Argentine pesos plummeted 13%.</p>
<p>Why are the emerging markets getting slammed?</p>
<p>Simply put, many of these fast-growing economies continue to be heavily dependent on their ability to export goods.  However, they have also been confronted by devaluing currencies and rampant inflation.</p>
<p>And with the U.S. Federal Reserve expected to soon normalize monetary policy, there is concern that rising interest rates and a strengthening dollar against emerging market currencies will send the emerging markets toward a financial crisis.</p>

Global Markets Are Getting Rocked

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Bitcoin dropped on Monday amid the global market meltdown. </li><li>Crypto has not been spared the carnage as traders eye a growing risk of a US recession. </li></ul><p>Bitcoin dropped on Monday amid the broad sell-off across financial markets that kicked off last week. </p><p>The world's biggest cryptocurrency was down as much as 19% over the weekend, though it pared that loss to about 7% shortly after noon on Monday. The token was trading at $54,934 at 12:24 p.m. ET. </p><p>Ethereum, the world's second-largest crypt, was also down, trading 12% lower at $2,488. </p><p>The sell-off in crypto comes as risk assets plunge in a global market rout caused by worries over the state of the US economy. </p><p>A <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sahm-rule-recession-outlook-indicator-triggered-unemployment-rate-jobs-report-2024-8?_gl=1*6xk1gc*_ga*MTY3OTgyNjg0MS4xNzIxMDE2MDM2*_ga_E21CV80ZCZ*MTcyMjg3MTE0OC44Ni4xLjE3MjI4NzEyNjAuMTguMC4w">disappointing jobs report</a> and weak manufacturing data last week raised concerns that the Federal Reserve has waited too long to cut rates. </p><p>Some market observers have said that the historic market rout could <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fed-rate-cuts-recession-outlook-economy-job-market-interest-rates-2024-8">prompt an emergency rate cut from the central bank in the next week</a>. Such a move would be a rare acknowledgment by the Fed of the dire conditions facing the economy. Historically, an emergency cut has been reserved for "black swan" events like the pandemic and the terror attacks of September 11. </p><p>The bout of stock market volatility is the strongest since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020. Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped 12% early Monday in its worst single-day decline since 1987, and markets in South Korea and Europe also plunged. </p><p>With weaker job growth than expected, "financial markets indicate that the risk is no longer balanced between growth and inflation," analysts from Bank of America said in a Sunday note.</p><p>The analysts aren't optimistic that new data in the coming weeks could sway markets.</p><p>"Recent data suggests growth is slowing faster than expected and there are no major data releases or earnings over the coming weeks that could reverse the narrative," they said.</p><p>The upcoming release of consumer price index data on August 14 could "be a major downside catalyst if it comes in hot," they added."</p><p>Some crypto experts remain optimistic that the sell-off is a stopover before further gains materialize. </p><p>"Judging from historical trends in the crypto market, before the market forms a true bullish drive, it needs to experience a sharp decline to reduce the long positions of the contract in order to reduce the selling pressure for future rises," Gracy Chen, CEO of crypto exchange company Bitget, said in a Monday note.</p>
