About 58,000 employees in the government owned general insurance and reinsurance companies are on <keyword id="6358138" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="strike" source="Orion">strike</keyword> on Friday demanding wage revision, said a top official of <keyword id="14459315" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="joint-forum-of-trade-unions-and-associations" source="Orion">Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Associations</keyword> (JFTU). "With wage settlement pending for the past five years, about 58,000 employees in the government owned four general insurance and reinsurance companies are striking work on Friday," <keyword id="14459316" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="girish-khurana-national-convener" source="Orion">Girish Khurana National Convener</keyword> told IANS. "The wage revision is pending since August 1, 2017. We have been regularly taking this up with the <keyword id="175408" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="department-of-financial-services" source="Orion">Department of Financial Services</keyword> (DFS) and the management of the public sector general insurance companies for early wage revision and other aspects," Khurana added. 58,000 PSU general insurance employees go on strike seeking pay revision

<ul><li>The strike has been called off following an agreement reached with the management of the companies.</li><li><keyword id="651724" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="clc" source="Orion">CLC</keyword> had further advised that the managements should consider the suggestions of the <keyword id="122605" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="associations" source="Orion">associations</keyword> positively.</li><li>The strike notice was given by Girish <keyword id="24716" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="khurana" source="Orion">Khurana</keyword>, National Convenor, JFTY protesting against the unilateral implementation of the EY recommendations.</li></ul> The unions in the government-owned general insurance companies and General Insurance Corporation of India Ltd (GIC Re) on Monday called off their January 4 strike, said an union leader. The strike has been called off following an agreement reached with the management of the companies at the conciliation meeting called by the Chief Labour Commissioner, Central. "Various arguments took place in the meeting from both sides and finally, the CLC advised the managements to give proper bilateral opportunity for discussion with the Associations within 15 days and take the suggestions," Trilok Singh, Convenor-North Zone, Joint Forum of Trade Unions and Association (JFTU), told IANS. He said the CLC had further advised that the managements should consider the suggestions of the associations positively. "Managements agreed to meet the Associations within 15 days for the same. In the light of these instructions from the CLC's office and the managements' decision, we have decided to defer the strike till further advices," Singh said. At the conciliation meeting, the management representative said since 2016 it has been a matter of existence for the insurers. They said even after infusion of capital by the government, the companies are struggling to survive. The companies have to maintain solvency ratio and for that, they have to cost effective. The representative of the Department of Financial Services also maintained that the insurers have to improve their performance. The strike notice was given by Girish Khurana, National Convenor, JFTY protesting against the unilateral implementation of the EY recommendations on rejigging the five reinsurers. The CLC had called the Chairman-cum-Managing Directors of the five companies, Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services, and Khurana for a conciliation meeting. The unions have been demanding the copy of the EY report for a long time. The management had given them a copy of the power point presentation made to them about the EY report. PSU general insurance unions call off their Jan 4 strike

<keyword id="6357713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> Chief Minister <keyword id="43254" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="yogi-adityanath" source="Orion">Yogi Adityanath</keyword> on Sunday expanded his cabinet by inducting seven new <keyword id="6364618" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministers" source="Orion">ministers</keyword>. All the new ministers were administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Anandiben Patel at a hurriedly convened ceremony at the <keyword id="138" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raj-Bhavan" source="Orion">Raj Bhavan</keyword>, in the presence of the Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues. Among those who were sworn in are one cabinet minister and six ministers of state. The much-awaited expansion comes barely months before the state is preparing for assembly elections in early 2022. Through this expansion, the BJP has made it clear that it will focus on OBCs and SC/ST categories to ensure its return to power in next year's assembly elections. While Jitin Prasada, who has been sworn in as cabinet minister, is the lone Brahmin leader to get a place in Sunday's expansion, the remaining six belong to OBC (three) and Scheduled Caste (two) and Scheduled Tribe (one). The six ministers of state who were sworn in are -- Sanjeev Gond (ST-Sonbhadra), Dharamvir Prajapati (OBC-Agra), Chhatrapal Gangwar (OBC-Bareilly), Sangita Balwant Bind (OBC-Ghazipur), Paltu Ram (SC- Balrampur) and Dinesh Khatik (SC-Meerut). Apart from ensuring a caste balance, the party has also made sure to provide representation to all parts of the state. A surprise omission in Sunday's list is the name of Arvind Kumar Sharma, a former bureaucrat in the PMO who had taken voluntary retirement in January this year to join politics. He came to Lucknow and was immediately made member of the UP legislative council. It was believed that he would soon be inducted into the ministry and given an important portfolio, however that did not happen. There are 53 ministers in the UP cabinet at present, and seven more could be inducted as per the constitutional limit. This is the third time the Yogi cabinet has been expanded since the Chief Minister was first sworn in on March 19, 2017. As many as 23 new ministers were inducted into the cabinet on August 21, 2019.
