The complex comprises five giga factories for photovoltaic panels, fuel cell system, green hydrogen, energy storage and power electronics. "On track to commence new energy facilities in phases this year," the company said in a post-third-quarter earnings call with investors. Post announcement of third-quarter earnings on Friday, Ambani stated that the "New Energy Giga Complex is all set to be commissioned in the second half of CY24. I am confident that Reliance's New <keyword id="679565" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="energy-business" source="Orion">Energy business</keyword> will play a pivotal role in the global movement for adoption of cleaner fuels." The Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex will be among the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities in the world. Reliance has signed an MoU with the Gujarat government to set up 100 gigawatt renewable power at Rs 5 lakh crore capex. It has received in-principle approval for 74,750 hectares (ha.) of land parcels in Kutch for green hydrogen. The firm has strategically invested in ten global technology innovators with strong expertise across the new energy value chain. "Reliance is nearing the commissioning of the first tranche of 5GW module manufacturing capacity in mid-CY24," Nuvama said in a January 17 note. It has via REC Solar signed a supply agreement with China-based Suzhou Maxwell Technologies to buy a high efficiency production line for HJT cells (4.8GW capacity). It signed a 5.2GW HJT module automation production agreement with China-based SC Solar in January 2023. It won PLIs under both rounds of solar modules PLI (Round 1: USD 0.3 billion, 4GW; Round 2: USD 0.4 billion, 6GW). Reliance (apart from Greenko) is the only company to win incentives for both green hydrogen and electrolysers concluded recently. It won incentives of USD 0.3 per kg for electrolyser capacity of 300MW and USD 0.23 for green hydrogen capacity of 90,000 tonnes. Besides, it has won PLI under ACC battery storage for 5GW capacity. "These incentives are likely to assist Reliance achieve a green hydrogen cost of USD 1' 1.5 per kg," Nuvama said. Given <keyword id="20002939" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ril" source="keywords">RIL</keyword> is the largest producer and consumer of grey hydrogen, transition to green hydrogen shall enable it to improve margins ahead, it said. The current green hydrogen cost hovers USD 3 per kg, which remains 1.5x compared to grey hydrogen produced using natural gas due to the high cost of generating solar/wind energy as well as high electrolyser cost. Presently, a hybrid of solar and wind remains the cheapest source of generating green hydrogen. The cost for solar remains the highest due to low PLF of electrolysers at 30' 35 per cent versus wind at 65' 70 per cent, and for hybrid 70' 75 per cent.

Reliance to commission new energy giga complex this year

This complex will have four Giga Factories, which cover the entire spectrum of renewable energy. The first will be an integrated solar photovoltaic module factory. The second will be an advanced energy storage battery factory. The third will be an electrolyser factory for the production of Green Hydrogen. The fourth will be a fuel cell factory for converting hydrogen into motive and stationary power, Ambani said. Ambani said over the next three years we will invest Rs 75,000 crore in these initiatives. <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> will thus create and offer a fully integrated, end-to-end renewables energy ecosystem to India and Indians, he added. Efforts are on globally to make Green Hydrogen the most affordable fuel option by bringing down its cost to initially under USD 2 per kg. "Let me assure you all that Reliance will aggressively pursue this target and achieve it well before the turn of this decade. Am sure that India can set an even more aggressive target of achieving under USD 1 per kg within a decade," Ambani said. This will make India the first country globally to achieve $1 per 1 kilogram in 1 decade -- the 1-1-1 target for Green Hydrogen, he added. Mukesh Ambani reiterates Reliance's ₹75,000 crore push, reveals development of Giga Complex under way

As part of its vision for the company's rapid transition to a new era of green, clean and renewable energy, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited (<keyword id="6484187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ril">RIL</keyword>), <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, on Thursday unveiled the strategy and roadmap for its New Energy and New Materials business with an investment of ₹75,000 crore over a period of three years. During the 44th annual general meeting of RIL, Ambani said the investment would go into the setting up of four Giga factories that will manufacture and fully integrate all the critical components of the new energy ecosystem involving production of solar energy, storage of intermittent energy, production of green hydrogen and converting hydrogen into motive and stationary power. Reliance will invest 60,000 crore on these initiatives in the next three years. The rest 15,000 crore is kept for value chain, partnerships and future cost in the same time frame. Ambani said the company has started work on developing the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex over an area covering 5,000 acres in <keyword id="6361405" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="jamnagar">Jamnagar</keyword>, Gujarat, which will be among the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities in the world. "Jamnagar was the 'cradle of our old energy business'. It will also be the 'cradle of our new energy business'," Ambani said at the AGM. Reliance will establish and enable at least 100 GW of solar energy by 2030 with a significant part of this coming from rooftop solar and decentralised solar installations in villages, he said. It will also set up an Advanced Energy Storage Giga Factory that will be used to produce large-scale grid batteries to store the energy that is created. The third initiative of the company would be the setting up of an Electrolyser Giga Factory to manufacture modular electrolysers of highest efficiency and lowest capital cost. These can be used for captive production of green hydrogen for domestic use as well as for global sale. The fourth initiative will be a Fuel Cell Giga Factory. A Fuel Cell uses oxygen from the air and hydrogen to generate electricity. Reliance Industries Limited  announces  ₹75,000 crore green energy plan to build four Giga factories

"Reliance has invested over USD 150 billion (12 lakh crore) in creating world-class assets and capacities across India in last just 10 years. Of this, more than one third has been invested in Gujarat alone," he said. He said Reliance will contribute to making Gujarat a global leader in green growth. "We will help Gujarat's target to meet half of its energy needs through renewables by 2030." Reliance started building the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex over 5,000 acres in Jamnagar. This will generate a large number of green jobs and enable production of green products and materials that will make Gujarat the leading exporter of such goods and the company is ready to roll this out in the second half of 2024 itself, he said. Reliance Jio completed the fastest roll-out of 5G infrastructure anywhere in the world. For India's bid for 2036 Olympics, Reliance and Reliance Foundation will join forces with several other partners in Gujarat to improve the education, sports and skills infrastructure that will nurture the champions of tomorrow in various Olympics sports, he said. How did Xiaomi, a company that is used to making alternatives to the iPhone, manage that?For some, there's reason to believe that Tesla might have inadvertently contributed to its feat.Kyle Chan, a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton, recently drew attention to how Xiaomi's EVs have been made with machines <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/kyleichan/status/1777072166149714304">similar to the "giga press" machines Tesla uses</a> in its die-casting process.As Chan noted on X last month, when Tesla first entered China, it worked closely with domestic firm LK Group to develop "the world's largest casting machines to make Tesla parts." LK founder <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/30/business/china-tesla-electric-cars.html">Liu Siong Song told The New York Times in 2021</a>, the development of Tesla's giga press casting machine was a long process that took "over a year," with Tesla often asking if "it was possible to do this or that," necessitating changes to LK Group's machine.In other words, It's a partnership that made <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-to-reveal-robotaxi-this-year-elon-musk-2024-4">Tesla</a> a pioneer in this part of EV manufacturing.However, LK's die-casting expertise was no longer limited to Tesla after 2022, as the company was reported to have struck deals with six other Chinese companies to supply casting machines to them.Though there's no confirmation on who those companies were, Xiaomi may be making its EVs now with machinery and techniques that Tesla helped pioneer with LK Group in China with its giga press. Xiaomi did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.That could be a tough reality for Musk to accept.After spending years championing China as a place to do business, he <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-squeezing-us-firms-apple-tesla-hard-painful-business-lesson-2024-3">now faces competition </a>that is fine-tuning its production process with technology that Tesla was once gaining an edge with.For years, Western companies have held fears about Chinese firms copycatting their ideas and innovations to serve their market with cheaper alternatives.For Tesla, it's yet another risk as it battles sliding sales.

Consequently, the current application with the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) for segregating the O2C business from RIL is being withdrawn. In August 2019, both the companies had signed a non-binding Letter of Intent for a potential 20 per cent stake acquisition by Saudi Aramco in the O2C business of RIL. "Over the past two years, both the teams made significant efforts in the process of due diligence, despite Covid restrictions. This has been possible due to the mutual respect and long-standing relationship between the two organisations," RIL said in a statement on Friday. "Reliance recently unveiled its plans for the 'New Energy &amp; Materials' businesses by announcing the development of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex at Jamnagar. It will be among the largest integrated renewable energy manufacturing facilities in the world," it added. Jamnagar, which accounts for a major part of the O2C assets, is envisaged to be the centre for Reliance's new businesses of 'Renewable Energy &amp; New Materials', supporting the net-zero commitment. "Due to the evolving nature of Reliance's business portfolio, Reliance and Saudi Aramco have mutually determined that it would be beneficial for both parties to re-evaluate the proposed investment in O2C business in light of the changed context. Consequently, the current application with NCLT for segregating the O2C business from RIL is being withdrawn," the statement said. "The deep engagement over the last two years has given both Reliance and Saudi Aramco a greater understanding of each other, providing a platform for broader areas of cooperation. Saudi Aramco and Reliance are deeply committed to create a win-win partnership and will make future disclosures as appropriate," it added. According to the statement, RIL shall continue to be Saudi Aramco's preferred partner for investments in the private sector in India and will collaborate with Saudi Aramco &amp; SABIC for investments in Saudi Arabia. "Saudi Aramco and RIL have a very deep, strong and mutually beneficial relationship, which has been developed and nurtured by both the companies over the last 25 years. Both are committed to collaborate and work towards strengthening the relationship further in the years ahead," the statement said. But the technological changes shown here, and inexorable math at the heart of them, apply globally: The traditional internal combustion engine has more than 1,000 parts. New electric engines have about 50. That means fewer jobs because EVs are much simpler and therefore easier to assemble. With all the ink spilled about the rise of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-electric-car-reviews-ev-2023-8">electric vehicles</a> since 2019, I've been surprised by how few words have focused on what will be a radical and painful industry transformation. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/auto-industry">auto industry</a> has been a powerful job generator for decades, forging huge cities with healthy and relatively stable paychecks for millions of workers and their families. As EVs take over, this will no longer be the case. Forget about <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-create-ai-materials-resources-guide-2023-9">AI</a>. This is the job destruction that's guaranteed to happen soon. <h2>'Fewer employees'</h2>The Congressional Research Service, which provides analysis to US legislators, <a target="_blank" href="https://sgp.fas.org/crs/misc/IF11101.pdf">warned about this</a> a few years ago. Gas-powered vehicles have as many as 2,000 components in their powertrains, while Tesla has said its drivetrain has 17 moving parts, including just 2 in the motor, it noted. "Electric vehicle powertrains, if built domestically and not imported, would generate production employment, but fewer employees may be needed than at present because vehicle battery packs have relatively few components and are less complicated to assemble than internal combustion engine powertrains," the Congressional Research Service wrote. "Electric vehicles utilize a large number of electronic sensors, but these devices require little labor to produce and assemble."Labor is one of the main expenses that companies try to flex when competing against each other. If one business has an approach that gives it a clear cost advantage, everyone else will quickly try to adopt a similar strategy. Tesla had a decade headstart, in terms of EV manufacturing, but other automakers are now racing to catch up. There may be some environmental benefits to EVs, but a bigger driver of this is that they are just <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ev-electric-car-auto-industry-jobs-layoffs-employment-ford-2022-8#:~:text=Both%20Ford%20and%20Volkswagen%20have,than%20an%20engine%20and%20transmission.">way more efficient to manufacture</a>. <h2>About 40% less labor</h2>Auto executives don't like talking about this much, because it basically means jobs will be lost and that's hard to bring up. But some of the industry's top leaders have discussed it occasionally.In late 2022, Ford CEO Jim Farley <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ft.com/content/8df00b42-4e3f-4a45-b665-2726720105e0">told</a> the Financial Times that manufacturing EVs requires about 40% less labor than making the same number of internal combustion vehicles. Higgins wrote a book about Tesla, called <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/learning/elon-musk-book-review-power-play">Power Play</a>, that expertly explains how the company developed a more efficient vehicle manufacturing process.As a pure EV maker, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-owners-best-worst-things-ev-model-3-elon-musk-2023-7">Tesla</a> doesn't have to deal with internal combustion engines, gas lines, exhaust pipes and other complex designs that cost more to assemble. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/uaw-strike-history-what-happened-during-2019-gm-union-stoppage-2023-9">GM</a>, Ford, and Stellantis have begun making more EVs, but those operations are still relatively small and that lack of scale means they mostly lose money selling those new vehicles. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Stainless steel will be impossible to keep looking nice.</li><li>The Cybertruck will be a "measure of the appeal" of Tesla.</li></ul>The polarizing polygon known as the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-truck-cybertruck">Tesla Cybertruck</a> is almost here, and it will probably look far from perfect when it finally hits the road.Thanks to its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cybertruck-photos-on-roads-shared-ahead-of-launch-2023-8">unusually flat body panels and extensive use of stainless steel,</a> the sci-fi-inspired truck likely won't be nearly as sleek and perfect as Tesla's polished renderings have suggested, design and manufacturing experts told Insider.And remember: Although Tesla has shaken up the car business in countless ways, it's always <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/youtuber-ditched-tesla-for-mercedes-eqs-ev-quality-issues-design-2023-5">struggled with nagging quality issues</a> that premium competitors like BMW and Lexus don't deal with.It all means that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cybetruck-fans-are-criticizing-teslas-final-design-2023-8">Cybertruck buyers </a>who have suffered through years of delays may wind up with trucks that always look a little rough around the edges. How much of that roughness customers can stomach could make or break this crucial product launch, said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions."This is going to be a measure of the appeal of Tesla," Fiorani said.<h2>Stainless steel will always get dirty in a matter of minutes</h2>Making those flat, shiny body panels actually look nice will be easier said than done, Geoff Wardle, a former car designer who runs the transportation design program at California's ArtCenter College of Design, told Insider. Just look at this photo Tesla boss Elon Musk recently posted of a "production candidate" truck. Imperfections in the doors and other panels make the vehicle look like a rolling funhouse mirror — not exactly the uniform, space-age truck that was promised. The effect was more pronounced in earlier Cybertruck photos, but it's still noticeable here, just weeks away from customer deliveries."You are going to see funny reflections" in the finished product, Wardle said, adding that the side of the truck looks less like a cohesive design and more like "four flat panels that happen to be adjacent to each other."Another potential issue he foresees: <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-might-be-fingerprint-magnet-stainless-steel-body-2023-8">fingerprints</a>.Anyone who's owned a stainless steel fridge knows they are a magnet for grime and are a nightmare to keep clean. Now imagine that issue on practically every surface of your truck, which is routinely exposed to nasty environments.He isn't sure any of it will matter to the Cybertruck's most enthusiastic fans."Maybe customers are going to like them to get all grubby and dirty and have that sort of 'Star Wars' look about it," he said. "But for more traditional folks, they might be bothered about paying probably a lot of money for this car and finding that the doors and the fenders look like they're warped."<h2>Musk knows the Cybertruck needs to be perfect</h2>Musk himself has indicated he's concerned about how the Cybertruck will look in its final form, saying in a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/08/24/elon-musk-memo-on-cybertruck-manufacturing-challenges.html">leaked email to staff</a> last week: "Due to the nature of Cybertruck, which is made of bright metal with mostly straight edges, any dimensional variation shows up like a sore thumb."He's right. For years, Tesla buyers have complained about glaringly misaligned body panels, and those kinds of issues stick out in early Cybertruck photos. Just look at Musk's recent post again, and zero in this time on the spot by the headlight. Instead of a clean edge, you see a weird gap.Tesla has always been able to get away with a level of imperfection, thanks to a rabid fanbase that cares more about cutting-edge technology than craftsmanship. But the Cybertruck is a different ballgame, Fiorani said."Musk has learned from his past mistakes – he understands that people will scrutinize this vehicle," Fiorani said. "Then you add in the complexity of a vehicle like the Cybertruck, where the smallest blemish will show up as a glaring error. He recognizes the issue with that."

<ul class="summary-list"><li>New videos of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-truck-cybertruck">Tesla Cybertruck</a> feature a show-stopping interior with a full glass roof.</li><li>Videos of the electric truck's power frunk have quelled some early critics.</li></ul>With about a week left until Tesla <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-delivery-event-details-10-vehicles-2023-11">finally delivers the first 10 Cybertrucks</a>, peeks inside the futuristic electric truck are popping up more online.Several TikTok videos have surfaced over the past few days giving snippets of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/teslas-top-designer-spotted-in-matte-black-cybertruck-2023-11">interior of the Cybertruck</a>, which appear to feature a massive glass roof.Prior to these posts, all we have seen of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-photos-ignite-buzz-show-interior-exterior-features-2023-8">the inside of the Cybertruck</a> is a picture of the dashboard and infotainment screen, which left some fans of the truck feeling disappointed.The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla">Tesla</a> Cybertruck was first revealed to much fanfare in 2019, and its release has been pushed back several times since then. Production on the truck finally started at the Texas Gigafactory earlier this year, and Tesla set the date for the release party on November 30.At this event, the first 10 trucks will be delivered to their owners. Before that, order-holders are relying on a series of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-photos-ignite-buzz-show-interior-exterior-features-2023-8">sightings in the wild</a> to piece together <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-specs-price-unknown-delivery-event-2023-9">exactly what they are buying</a>.<h2>What's inside the Cybertruck?</h2>From what we've seen <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/leaked-interior-cybertruck-photo.8485/">of the dashboard so far</a>, much of the interior of the Cybertruck is surprisingly barebones. A "squircle" (squared-circle) steering wheel juts off a deep front dash and sits next to one of Tesla's signature tablet touchscreens.More recent videos have revealed a more show-stopping interior behind the dash, with a full glass roof and angular leather seats. In another video, which includes a walk around of the outside of the truck, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-interior">interior</a> appears to feature an LED light bar on the front and back doors. In this video the light bar is purple, but it's possible it could be customized. <h2>What's the deal with the frunk?</h2>The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cybetruck-fans-are-criticizing-teslas-final-design-2023-8">Cybertruck's frunk</a> — the nickname given to the extra storage space in the front of EVs where an engine would go in an ICE vehicle — caught some heat a few months ago when the first photos and videos leaked online.The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/best-electric-car-frunks-ranked-tesla-ford-f150-kia-rivian-2023-10">frunk</a> appeared to be smaller in comparison to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-electric-f150-lightning-pickup-truck-frunk-coolest-features-2021-9">F-150 Lightning</a>, according to some critics. A more recent video caught the power-frunk in action at a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-supercharger-map">Tesla Supercharger</a>, showing that the frunk opens with the grille, allowing for easier access to the storage compartment. <h2>What about towing capacity?</h2>A photo touting some of the specs for the Cybertruck made the rounds on an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/confirmed-11-000-lbs-tow-rating-2-500-lbs-payload-capacity-official-specs-shatter-resistant-glass.9828/">owners club forum</a> earlier this week.In addition to some of the specs we already knew, like shatter-resistant glass and a stainless steel exterior, the poster indicates the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-offroading-videos-struggling-climb-steep-hill-2023-11">Cybertruck has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds</a> — beating out the F-150 Lightning by a thousand pounds.The truck bed also appears to have 2,500 pounds of payload capacity.<h2>How much will it cost?</h2>When Tesla first revealed the Cybertruck, it was supposed to have a starting price of $39,900, with two higher-performance models that would cost $49,900 and $59,900. Those prices vanished from the Cybertruck website in 2021, and an official price has still been difficult to pin down.But it's likely based on what Musk has said publicly about the complexity of the truck, and what's been shown in government documents, that the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-truck-cybertruck-cost-expensive-2023-10">Cybertruck won't be cheap</a>.Car and Driver decoded a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a45618064/2024-tesla-cybertruck-motor-weight-details/">NHTSA document</a> last month that indicated only dual-motor and tri-motor options will be available on the Cybertruck this year, which would carry a higher starting price than the single-motor, rear-wheel drive specification. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.caranddriver.com/tesla/cybertruck">Car and Driver's estimates</a> on starting price are $70,000 for the dual-motor option, and $80,000 for the tri-motor.
