New Delhi, Apr 21 () GCMMF, which markets dairy products under Amul brand, expects its turnover to grow 15 per cent this fiscal year from Rs 38,550 crore in 2019-20 despite economic slowdown caused by the nationwide lockdown to control coronavirus outbreak.The household consumption of milk and other dairy products is expected to rise and will compensate any temporary loss of sales caused by closure of hotels, restaurants and cafeterias (HoReCA segment) during the ongoing lockdown period, said R S Sodhi, the managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF)."COVID-19 will not have any impact on demand of the food products. Our sales in value terms during this month are at par with the same month last year. The demand of some products has come down but at the same time sales of many products have risen," Sodhi told  in an interview. Asked about the outlook for this fiscal year, he said: "We expect our turnover to grow by 15 per cent."GCMMF clocked 17 per cent growth in its turnover at Rs 38,550 crore during the 2019-20 fiscal year.On the current situation of its milk operation, Sodhi said, "Gradually things are settling down."Regarding sales, he said the demand for fresh milk has declined by 8 per cent as hotels and restaurants are closed.  "HoReCa segment contributes 12-15 per cent of the total demand. But, fall is less as household consumption of fresh milk and butter milk has increased."Sodhi noted that sales of butter, ghee, paneer, cheese and milk powder have gone up in the range of 20-35 per cent as people are consuming more. However, he pointed out the demand of ice-cream has fallen sharply by 85 per cent, while sales of cream and mozzarella cheese are down by 70 per cent and 50 per cent, respectively. Sodhi said the company has diverted the idle supply chain of ice-cream into distribution of other dairy products."Our milk procurement from farmers has increased by 15 per cent as unorganised players are not buying", he said. The surplus milk is being processed to manufacture skimmed milk powder (SMP), whose price has crashed to Rs 250 per kg from Rs 320 before lockdown, he said. "Our capital is getting blocked because of higher milk procurement. But we need to support farmers during this period," Sodhi said. The GCMMF has not increased or decreased the milk procurement rates, he said, but added that prices have fallen by Rs 7-10 per litres across various states.Sodhi said the fall in procurement rate is more in states like Uttar Pradesh where there are no cooperatives in the dairy business. Dabur’s revenue from operations was down 12.3% to ₹1,865.36 crore in Q4 compared to the same quarter last year. Philip capital in its report said Dabur in the May month had seen 80-90% of consumer demand coming back to the levels which existed prior to the breakout of COVID-19. However, Dabur said it expects the impact of COVID-19 to continue in the coming quarter — forecast a dip in its operating revenue to be in the range of ₹400 to ₹450 crore. It also expects net profit to take a hit of ₹60 to ₹80 crore. The other cities which were a part of the survey were Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

 “The visible fat consumption levels were significantly higher in Delhi and Ahmedabad at 44.4 gm per person/day and 43.9 gmrespectively, while the average intake in Hyderabad and Mumbai were the lowest at 25.1 gm,” says Prof P K Seth, chairman of International Life Sciences Institute India. ‘Don’t ditch your biryani but eat healthy’ Seth added that the average intake of all metros pooled was at 32.6 gm per person/day. ICMR recommends 20 gm per person per day. Overall, 18% of the total intake of energy came from visible fat. “Although, we know you can’t ditch your beloved biryani, but it is important that people are motivated to consume balanced diets, adopt a healthy lifestyle, undertake physical activity including Yoga,” said Seth. The fad and the freebies have attracted even multinationals like Unilever, Colgate, Nestle, Pepsi, and Coke into giving their brands an Indian flavour. How noodles are eaten around the world

Until a few years back, herbal product markets in India had just two names to reckon for, <keyword id="6842" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Baidyanath">Baidyanath</keyword> and <keyword id="2057176" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vicco">Vicco</keyword>. However, in 2006, a new company entered the market and in just 10 years, it has left behind both these companies. 
 
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved has set on a wave of Ayurveda love in the country, which has resulted in it being a successful business model using traditional products and the ancient system of medicine. 
 
This wave has also inspired the other two companies to pull up their socks and cash on to the increading popularity of Ayurvedic products. 
 The reason why some of these companies dealing in Ayurvedic products, like Vicco, Sandu, <keyword id="277948" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amrutanjan">Amrutanjan</keyword> and <keyword id="589160" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="charak">Charak</keyword>, were not able to attract Indians to them was their limited portfolio, which never went beyond the traditional products. However, Patanjali sells products ranging from detergents and toothpaste to ghee, atta and noodles in an FMCG market, thereby making Ayurvedic products a big deal in India. 
 
This success of Patanjali Ayurved has inspired other gurus like Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Ram Rahim as well as Aurobindo Ashram to enter the consumer segment with Ayurveda-centric products. 
 However, Kolkata-based Baidyanath is of the opinion that they don’t need to rival Patanjali, <keyword id="62997" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dabur">Dabur</keyword> or <keyword id="26169" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="himalaya">Himalaya</keyword> in the core FMCG segments. "We have been here for 100 years and want to survive another century in a sustainable way. No point getting into all FMCG segments and be a fringe player," Ameve Sharma, its third-generation scion, told ET. 
 
Coming back to Patanjali, why a company the originated in 1997 as a small pharmacy has reached these heights? The reason is the nonconventional approach of catering to categories like noodles, oats and detergents. 
 "What we have done is consistently focused on quality and pricing. Ask consumers about our product quality. Why are repeat purchases coming? It's because of the quality we are offering consumers," said SK Tijarawala, spokesperson of <keyword id="700471" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patanjali-Ayurveda">Patanjali Ayurveda</keyword>. "As far as pricing is concerned, we are trying to give consumers the best possible prices.

Patanjali is taking over the entire Ayurveda industry

If you are inclined towards coastal cuisine, you know it very well how difficult it is to find a good place in Delhi that satiates your tastebuds. While you have limited options in Gurgaon, there was nothing good in <keyword id="1093339" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lutyen">Lutyen</keyword>’s Delhi until <keyword id="4557980" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanadige">Sanadige</keyword> popped up at the Malcha Marg Commercial Centre. If you are crazy about seafood, you must visit this place. Well if you are not, you can still consider visiting Sanadige just as a tribute to the Southern part of India and its culture after having watched Bahubali II recently. <div type="image" title="1" msid="58776985" hostid="261"></div>

 Sanadige stands for the brass lamp that is lit on special occasions during any Kannada ceremony. And when you enter Sanadige, the lavishly earthy restaurant, the lamp will guide you to the table. For a location, where property prices skyrocket, Sanadige occupies two levels of dining, which is a clear indication of the seriousness of the business in the minds of the promoters. On any random day, you would find bureaucrats and embassy people lunching at Sanadige. The interior is well done and would remind you of a Kannada theatre. With wood engraved sculptures that depict fishermen returning home and boatmen selling for their catch, this place takes you to a faraway land where you can relish a candlelight dinner with your love forgetting about other anxieties of mundane city life. Yes it’s that surreal. Wait for the food to arrive at your table if you weren’t convinced much. We started our gastronomic sojourn with Anjal Tawa Fry, Chicken Ghee Roast, Prawn Butter Pepper Garlic, <keyword id="4557979" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mamsa">Mamsa</keyword> pepper fry and Baby corn Butter Pepper Garlic. For the non-initiated ones, Anjal is king mackerel and Mamsa is an enormous sized fish found in backwater. Sanadige specializes in Mangalorean cuisine, so it’s pretty obvious that there would be a lot of Southern spices. And taste wise, the fried fillet of Anjal tasted heavenly. The prawns were fresh and tender. On inquiring, we learnt, the fishes and prawns are flown everyday from Bangalore. No wonder, they charge accordingly. The mercury level being too high, we cooled ourselves with Guava Pepper Mocktail and Tender Coconut Mojito. <div type="image" title="3" msid="58776986" hostid="261"></div>

 The main course was a blissful spread of Vegetable Stew, Goan Fish Curry, Koan Kundapuri, Chemmeen Ularthiyathu and Mangalorean Mutton Curry. These might sound quite cliché when it comes to experimentation with southern cuisine but these tasted delicious. Not an ounce of overpowering spices and balanced coconut flavour made each of dishes retain the accuracy. <div type="image" title="5" msid="58776987" hostid="261"></div>

 While we weren’t really dessert people, on insistence of the waiter, we thought of sampling payasam, the signature ending of any southern meal. But no this payasam isn’t the regular one. The payasam is way different – with tender coconut pulp and coconut cream combined neatly, this was actually theobroma, the food of gods. Delhi just got its luxury coastal seafood eatery. Get ready for jumbo sized prawns and crabs

It is India’s love for everything herbal that <keyword id="6356684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="patanjali">Patanjali</keyword> Ayurved has in no time made a name for itself. Not only this, several of its rival companies have also seen a rise in the sales of herbal products. 
 In six months ending December 2015, the company led by <keyword id="6355107" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Baba-Ramdev">Baba Ramdev</keyword> has seen a 64% jump in sales, standing at Rs 731 crore, while rivals Dabur and Himalaya have also grown in double digits in the consumer products market, as per the IMRB data. 
 
The figures don’t include commodity products such as ghee and flour. 
 
Not only are herbal products cheaper, they are also made of natural ingredients and health benefits, which is what has led to the popularity of these products. 
 
"Patanjali has registered a near-80 per cent growth in penetration, which is about 5 per centage points on an absolute level, in one year," K Ramakrishnan, GM of IMRB Kantar Worldpanel told ET. 
 
"The first wave of growth came from personal care products only, but the recent growth has been driven by homecare and food and beverages, which still has a smaller base," he said. 
 
Not only this, Patanjali has grabbed market share from non-ayurvedic companies as well. While the growth of ayurvedic brands in the category of ‘face wash’ products category increased to 50% from 36%, the growth of non-ayurvedic brands fell down to 16% from 21% last year. 
 
Talking of shampoos, sales of Ayurvedic brands more than doubled and currently stands at 194%, while for non-ayurvedic MNCs, it declined to 15% from 21%. 
 
"This unusual phenomenon of consumer products market disruption is rare as brand erosion or loyalty for well-established brands generally doesn't happen so quickly," said Devendra Chawla, president, food and FMCG, at Future Group. 
 
"Other Ayurvedic companies are coming up with good quality products at even cheaper prices, which is ultimately doing good. The country is huge and the FMCG market is so large that we may not be able to provide for everyone," Acharya Balkrishna, MD at Patanjali Ayurved told ET. He also added that the company has almost met its sales target of Rs 5,000 crore for the financial year ending March 2016, which is more than double its revenue in 2014-15.
