Allardice, a former Australian first-class cricketer and administrator, was the ICC General Manager, Cricket for eight years. He had previously held a similar role at Cricket Australia. ICC appoints Geoff Allardice as permanent CEO

Dubai, The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket (<keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword>) have joined forces to unveil a new campaign ahead of the <keyword id="6974355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icc-mens-cricket-world-cup" source="Orion">ICC Men's Cricket World Cup</keyword> in India later this year. The 'It Takes One Day' campaign was launched in Mumbai on Thursday just 77 days out from the first match at this year's World Cup, with the campaign aiming to connect fans across the world to the 'Navarasa' which symbolises the nine emotions fans most commonly experience during a cricket match. Insiders confirmed to PTI that ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice have specifically come to Lahore to get some assurances from the <keyword id="43712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pakistan-Cricket-Board" source="Orion">Pakistan Cricket Board</keyword> on the national team's participation in the World Cup in October-November. The development comes after PCB chief Najam Sethi made it clear that the team will not travel for the World Cup in India if the Rohit Sharma led side doesn't visit Pakistan for the preceding Asia Cup. “The ICC and World Cup hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are concerned with the hybrid model being pushed by Najam Sethi who heads the cricket management committee of the PCB. “Although the hybrid model has been suggested by Sethi for the Asia Cup which precedes the ICC event, the concern remains that once accepted for the regional event the PCB might also then ask the ICC to implement it for the World Cup when it comes to Pakistan playing in India,” he explained. Sethi has already indicated that if the Pakistan government doesn't give clearance or has security concerns about sending the team to India, PCB could ask the ICC to hold Pakistan's matches at a neutral venue. “Naturally neither the ICC nor the BCCI want such a situation since Pakistan's unequivocal participation in matches in India would guarantee the success of Indo-Pakistan matches and also the tournament itself.” Another source said this was the primary reason why BCCI secretary Jay Shah was still reluctant to accept the hybrid model for the Asia Cup and support having three or four matches of the tournament in Pakistan and the remaining games in UAE or Sri Lanka. Pakistan are the hosts of the Asia Cup and Sethi has said repeatedly that if the tournament is moved to one neutral country from Pakistan, it will not take part in the competition. ICC top brass seeks PCB assurances that it will send team to India for ODI World Cup

The <keyword id="46227" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-cricket-council" source="Orion">International Cricket Council</keyword> (<keyword id="6355164" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICC" source="Orion">ICC</keyword>) on Thursday confirmed that it will replace '<keyword id="10878" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="batsman" source="Orion">batsman</keyword>' with gender-neutral term '<keyword id="55002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Batter" source="Orion">batter</keyword>' in all its playing conditions, starting with this month's men's <keyword id="44040" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20-World-Cup" source="Orion">T20 World Cup</keyword>, scheduled to be played in UAE and Oman. In September, the Marylebone Cricket Club announced it would be replacing the word 'batsman' with 'batter' in the Laws of Cricket. That change will now be reflected across all ICC playing conditions going forward. The ICC said over the past four years it has been moving away from the word "batsman", with "batter" implemented regularly in commentary and across the organisation's channels. ICC acting CEO Geoff Allardice said the MCC's decision to move to ‘batter' in the Laws of the game was one they 'welcomed'. "The ICC has been utilising the term batter for some time now across our channels and in commentary and we welcome the MCC's decision to implement it into the Laws of cricket and will follow suit with our playing conditions that are derived from the Laws," Allardice said in a statement. "This is a natural and perhaps overdue evolution of our sport and now our batters are gender-neutral in the same way as bowlers, fielders and wicket keepers," he added. Allardice also said that it's a small change but one that will have a significant impact on cricket being viewed as a more inclusive sport. "Of course language changes alone will not grow the sport, we must ensure that girls and boys who are inspired to play cricket have a fantastic, fun first experience and are both able to progress as cricketers without barriers," he said. For ICC Hall of Famer and former Australia star Lisa Sthalekar the move to 'batter' is a simple but important one in growing a sport that truly is for everyone. Unaware cricket was a sport played by women as a child, Sthalekar went on to become one of the finest players Australia has ever produced before making the step into commentary. Having grown up using the term 'batter' as a player, she stuck to the word when she stepped behind the microphone and remembers being told by a co-commentator in one of her earliest gigs that "batter was for fish." "We don't say ‘hey look at that fieldsman', we say ‘look at the fielder'. We don't say 'bowlsman', we say 'bowler'," she said to icc-cricket.com following the MCC decision. "So if there is a similar term to describe someone with a piece of wood in their hands, why wouldn't we follow suit?" According to ICC, it's worth noting that up until this century, the phrase 'fieldsman' was the accepted term with the MCC stepping in in 2000. Nowadays, it would be hard-pressed to find anyone saying 'fieldsman'. Sthalekar is well aware even with the ICC and MCC both moving permanently to ‘batter' that 'batsman' will still be heard on occasion in the media. "It's like a habit, it takes forever to get rid of it,'' she said. Lisa's thoughts were echoed by Allardice, who described the move as a "common-sense change". "Why not take a small step to ensuring we're a sport that doesn't exclude 50 per cent of the world's population with outdated language choices. Whilst some may have made lots of noise against this common-sense change, the majority of people within the game have welcomed the move," he said. ICC to replace 'batsman' with gender neutral term 'batter' in all formats

A day after the Indian cricket board said that it will not be able to host the <keyword id="44040" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20-World-Cup">T20 World Cup</keyword>, the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement confirming that the multi-nation tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates (<keyword id="6358356" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="uae">UAE</keyword>) and <keyword id="62607" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="oman">Oman</keyword> from October 17 to November 14. "The <keyword id="6354756" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci">BCCI</keyword> will remain the hosts of the event, which will now be held in Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Sharjah Stadium, and the Oman Cricket Academy Ground, from 17 October to 14 November 2021," said a statement from ICC. The initial stage of the tournament will likely be held in Oman and a venue in UAE soon after the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ends in the country. "Our priority is to deliver the ICC Men's T20 <keyword id="22177" type="SPORT" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-cup">World Cup</keyword> 2021 safely, in full and in its current window.
