Across many IPL seasons, I noted your desire to win, your assistance to younger players and your drive to extract the best out of your team on the field. "I know how dedicated and passionate you are about Indian cricket and I am sure you will bring all these qualities into the new job," he said. The 51-year-old, however, offered a word of caution to his one-time teammate about living under constant scrutiny. "As you know, the expectations will be high and the scrutiny will be intense," he said, also reminding that there will be overwhelming support for him from all quarters. "But even in the worst of times you will never be alone. You will have the support of the players, your support staff, the leaders of the past, the management and never forget for whom you play - for fans who are very demanding but will always be behind the team." "In light of the current situation, I have taken the decision that I will not be taking any salary from the company till the lockdown is in place. And, after that I will be taking a substantial reduction on the same," Singhania said in a video message to Raymond employees on Friday. The judge previously ordered Fox to give Smartmatic all the discovery evidence in the Dominion lawsuit, handing Smartmatic a powerful weapon already.If Smartmatic were to put Carlson on the witness stand — or even just play a deposition video — he could deal a potent blow against Fox News."It would be great primetime viewing when he has his deposition taken in the case," Clay Calvert, an expert in First Amendment law, told Insider.<h2>Smartmatic has to meet a high legal standard. Tucker may help.</h2>The fact that Carlson has already — in Fox's eyes — flouted his contract by hosting a show on Twitter could also make him dangerous. According to Gautam Hans, a First Amendment expert and professor at Cornell Law School, Fox shouldn't be sure he won't be willing to walk away from his ongoing contract, even if it means forfeiting tens of millions of dollars."For someone like Tucker Carlson, they could not be confident in the NDA holding in general, if they have one, because of his willingness to not comply with other provisions of his agreements," he said.Fox News has contended that its actions are protected by the First Amendment and called Smartmatic's lawsuit an assault on free speech."We will be ready to defend this case surrounding extremely newsworthy events when it goes to trial, likely in 2025," a Fox spokesperson told Insider. "As a report prepared by our financial expert shows, Smartmatic's damages claims are implausible, disconnected from reality, and on its face intended to chill First Amendment freedoms."A key hurdle for Smartmatic is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fox-news-dominion-defamation-lawsuit-trial-first-amendment-free-speech-2023-4">proving "actual malice."</a> To meet that legal standard, Smartmatic must prove not just that the claims were false, but that decision-makers such as anchors, producers, and executives at Fox News knew they were false, or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.The only question, Hans said, is how far Carlson is willing to go in helping Smartmatic with its case, knowing it'll upset Fox News.<div type="image" title="tucker carlson" height="1862" width="2484" msid="101404204" hostid="261"></div>"Because the standard is so high, having as much ballast for your argument is never a bad thing, and I'm sure for Smartmatic, that would be appealing," Hans said. Mumbai, Jun 22 () Amid an organisational restructuring to tide over the COVID-19 woes, apparel maker Raymond has seen about 1,100 employees either resigning or being sacked since April as part of cost-control measures, retrenched employees claimed, but the firm refuted their assertions on non-payment of full dues. About a dozen employees spoke to said the Raymond management sought resignations from them, failing which they were threatened with termination. While some 400 were coerced into resignation, around 700 who did not do so were sacked. Similar notices have been served to 400 more now, they claimed. The Gautam Singhania-led company had 7,087 employees on its rolls as of March 2019, according to the annual report. A company spokesperson, however, refuted the numbers saying queries on the issue "are factually incorrect, malicious and misrepresented with vested interests." "We would further like to state that in line with the prevailing market conditions and unprecedented challenges, the company has undertaken the process of cost rationalisation to minimise the impact on business due to the pandemic. "Basis this rationalisation exercise certain roles were identified to be redundant and the same was communicated to the employees concerned, post which they submitted their resignations," the company spokesperson said. The staff alleged that their salaries were cut by up to 65 per cent since April and before the resignations were sought, and only the basic pay was being paid to those serving notice period. On this, the company spokesperson said, "as per the employment contract, they have been put on the notice period of three months and are being paid in compliance with the terms and conditions. All the said measures and actions are taken as per the laid down procedures and are in the overall interests of all stakeholders." Raymond on June 10 informed exchanges that all its retail stores remained shut during the first and second phase of the coronavirus lockdown with gradual reopening thereafter, while its suiting and shirting fabric manufacturing plants remain shut due to subdued demand. The firm was looking at debt raising and alternate working capital to manage liquidity. "In line with the prevailing market conditions and unprecedented challenges, we have undertaken a process of cost rationalisation and various cost control measures related to sales and marketing, manpower, rentals and others to minimise the impact on business due to the pandemic," it had informed the bourses. spoke to a dozen of the employees but all of them requested not to be named fearing reprisal, as they are serving the three-month notice period after termination by the over 90-year-old group that has two verticals--Raymond Apparel which sells brands like Park Avenue, Parx, Colour Plus; and garmenting and shirting business under Raymond Suitings. The staff allege that their salaries were slashed by up to 65 per cent in April before the resignations were sought from them through WhatsApp calls/messages in early May. During the notice period, they are being given just about their basic pay after deducting income tax on the full salary, resulting in only 25-27 per cent payment.The HR department sent termination messages to only those who didn't tender resignations voluntarily, they said, alleging the huge salary cut that preceded was not conveyed to them personally in writing but was posted on the company website. In mid-April, Singhania in a video message exhorted the staff "to survive at any cost by conserving cash at any cost and to make sure to focus on our collections," and said he'd not draw a penny in salary during the lockdown. According to the employees, Raymond announced huge salary cuts ranging from 20 per cent (who are still employed), 50 per cent to those who are benched now and a hefty 65 per cent to those who have been terminated now. Employees fear more jobs will be lost from the 50 per cent bracket. "What is more, though the official reduction is 65 per cent, we are only getting 25-28 per cent as they are deducting tax on the full salary and what is paid is not even the full basic pay," six of them told requesting not to name them. These employees have spent between 18 months and 12 years with the group in high positions as heads of marketing, logistics, supply-chains. Barring three, all of them have liabilities like home loans, school fees and rentals to pay, among others. "Late April, I was told my division would be recast as some positions have become redundant but was assured of my position. But within 10 days I received a WhatsApp call saying my position too has become redundant and that I have to resign in the larger interest of the organisation, which I refused. Within hours, I was terminated," a person who headed marketing at one of the divisions said. Another person said over 20 jobs were lost from his division, and more are on the way out. "They did not spare even a few who have a couple of months to retire," said the person cited above who was in the supply chain division for the past decade. "The pay-cut announcement was made in May but effective April! he said, adding, "a legal notice is being prepared seeking either re-employment or full salaries." "We aren't opposed to retrenchment. Our only demand is to pay us full salaries during notice period," said another person from the supply chain side and is the only earner in his family with a home loan and two school-going kids. Accusing the management of frequently changing HR policy, another employee said most culling is driven by favouritism. There is no union as the majority of those sacked are in the management cadre, he alleged. "We were even ready for the 65 per cent salary cuts as we have given everything to this company in all these years. Over 1,100 of us were sacked by a company that had won the best-place-to-work-with award just two years ago," said a person from Raymond Suitings who was heading a department. Raymond cuts workforce to tide over COVID-19 woes

New Delhi, Dec 3 () India needs to discourage large-scale paper imports to boost the domestic paper industry, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.
The MSME minister also pitched for use of bamboo as a raw material by the industry as different types of papers can be made using bamboo. The government has allocated Rs 1,300 crore towards 'Bamboo Mission', he said.
"India is witnessing large-scale paper imports despite the presence of diversified paper sector in the country. I am especially concerned about the growth prospects of small scale paper and pulp industries, an important part of MSME sector. 
"The imports in paper sector need to be discouraged while exports should be enhanced to support the domestic industry," Gadkari said in a video message at the inauguration of Paperex 2019.He pitched for increasing the use of bamboo as it can be a win-win situation for the paper industry and the farmers.
JK Paper Managing Director Harshpati Singhania said,"Growth in paper industry is moving from developed world to the developing world. Consumption growth is declining in Europe and Americas while the same is going up in Asia and some of the Latin American countries. Currently, India is the fastest growing paper market in the world".
Singhania, who is also the founder President of Indian Paper Manufactures Association (IPMA), said servicing the growing requirement of paper is both an opportunity and a challenge for the industry. Large-scale import of cheap paper is meeting the demand which should have been met by the domestic industry. 
Paperex, the largest conference for pulp and paper technology organised in Asia is sharply focussing on technologies to replace single use plastic with paper and paperboard in an accelerated manner. 
 The conference is being organised by Inpaper International, the journal of Indian Agro &amp; Recycled Paper Mills Association (IARPMA).
Paperex is designed to meet all the aspirations of technology seekers as the world's latest and cost effective technologies will be presented during the 3-day conference, said P G Mukundan, Secretary General IARPMA.

These are the edited excerpts from the chat. Can you detail us more about your company? You cater to enterprises, (OTT) and mobile network operators (MNO); what are the big brands or companies that are associated with you? We are an enterprise that provides digital communication channels to the enterprises. Our customer base is from retails, banks to cab operators, and e-commerce. And whichever company wants to communicate with its customers, we provide them with a channel. And this channel can be SMS, voice call; it may email, it may be WhatsApp, it may be Viber, or can be a video. So these are the channels we provide to the enterprises so that they can efficiently communicate with the clients. For example, when you swipe your card, you get a debit alert, so that is done mostly by our SMS channels. Or you are on their OTT platform, and you need an OTP to download the content. So that OTP goes from our channel. We also provide a second layer in that. That is a voice channel when the client opts for an OTP via voice. How are you planning to use the IPO money? So we are looking at expanding both vertically and horizontally. Either entering into new geographies or consolidating into the existing one. We are also looking at expanding our product line. How has been the lockdown period for the company? So when you say lockdown, it has propelled our business more, as a lot of digital transactions happened during the period. So lockdown has given more value addition to our portfolio. So the overall lockdown period was better for us. What percent of your operation's revenue comes from foreign, and how much of it is from Indian companies? So in terms of revenue, 20% of our billing comes in Indian currency. The rest of the billing is in foreign currency. A large part of which is in USD and Euro. Total India revenue will be somewhere around 40% export and domestic business. And if there are, what makes you stand out compared to them? So we are a global player. When it comes to the competition, we compete globally with companies like Infobip and others. As people mostly stayed home during the lockdown, and that led to the growth in your business, what are the forward-looking business strategies that you have in mind to keep the momentum going? During the COVID-19 (lockdown), digital transactions have grown. And at the same time, many businesses were shut too, like hospitality and tourism businesses. Now when the economy is opening up, digital transactions will be much more needed. So with more transactions, it will add more value to the business.
