<keyword id="6355455" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Railways">Indian Railways</keyword> wants to achieve train speeds at 600 km/hr for which it is working with tech companies such as <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword>. Railways Minister <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Suresh-Prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword> said the government is working with global technology firms and think-tank <keyword id="2665691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Niti-Aayog">NITI Aayog</keyword> has approved the Rs 18,000 crore proposal to increase speeds of the <keyword id="4800972" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="gatiman-express">Gatiman Express</keyword> on the two busiest corridors, Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata. "You can yourself imagine how much travelling time this will save,” he said. Sharing plans for the future, Prabhu said the government had six-eight months ago called major technology developers working on increasing train speeds to more than 600 km per hour. "We are already working with companies like Apple... technology will not only be imported in India but will be co- developed in India," Prabhu said. Safety was also an important concern and Indian railways was planning to use self-propelled coaches that can detect rail fractures through ultrasonic technology, the minister added.

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/50639808.cms" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /> Travelling from Delhi to Agra will gain a new speed now with the start of the <keyword id="2410284" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="semi-high-speed-train">semi-high speed train</keyword>, <keyword id="4800972" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="gatiman-express">Gatiman Express</keyword>. It will run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph and cover a 200-km distance in about 105 minutes and will be operated by Railways for a year on a pilot basis. 
 
The decision comes after the Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) gave conditional clearance to the train. 
Based on the experience of running Gatiman Express at 160 kmph for a year, a further review shall be done at Railway Board for extension of its operations, according to a letter issued by the Railway Board to general managers of Northern Railway and North Central Railways. 
 
Conditions mentioned by CRS in the sanction letter have been examined and accordingly it was decided to run the train for a year from the date of its operation, the letter stated. 
 
Railways will decide a suitable date for flagging off the much-awaited first semi-high speed train soon. 
 
A date for launching Gatiman will be announced shortly as the mandatory CRS clearance has been obtained, a senior Railway Ministry official told PTI. 
 
Equipped with a 5,400HP electric locomotive and 12 modern coaches, the first semi-high speed train will run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. 
 
While the travel time between Delhi and Agra in Shatabdi is 120 minutes, Gatiman Express proposes to reduce it to 105 minutes. 
 
Targeting tourists planning to visit the City of Taj, the fare for Gatiman Express will be 25 per cent more than what a Shatabdi passenger has to pay. 
 
Earlier, CRS has raised certain safety concerns over running the first semi-high speed train on the existing track. 
CRS has sought implementation of a few measures like fencing off the track at vulnerable locations and taking adequate safeguards at level crossings. 
 "CRS concerns have been addressed and railway divisions have been asked to fence off the identified vulnerable locations along the <keyword id="368065" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-Agra">Delhi-Agra</keyword> route. All level crossings on the route shall be replaced with rail over bridge and rail under bridge in a planned manner," said the official. 
 
The trials of the semi-high speed train have already been conducted twice on the 200-km-long track between the two destinations. 
 
While the tracks have been fenced off at certain places, signalling system has been upgraded along the route to be taken by the semi-high speed train. 
 
The train also comes with extra features such as emergency braking system, automatic fire alarm along with the passenger information system and sliding doors inside the coaches. 
 
Railways have chalked out nine more routes for running similar trains, including Kanpur-Delhi, Chandigarh-Delhi, Hyderabad-Chennai, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Goa-Mumbai and Nagpur-Secunderabad.

New Delhi, Feb 1 (PTI) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday hailed the Union Budget as "pro-development and inclusive" and said it will immensely contribute towards the growth of India's economy. Sonowal also said the PM Gati Shakti, the national master plan for Multi-model connectivity, will boost the infrastructure development in the country. He said the special focus given on the development of the Northeast in the budget will further strengthen the interlinkage. The Union Budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is pro-development and inclusive and it will contribute immensely towards the growth of India's economy, he told reporters here. The minister also hailed the special announcement made for the Northeastern region by empowering the North Eastern Council (NEC) and said it is going to unlock the huge potential of the region. He said the people of the Northeast are happy for the sustained focus received under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it has already made significant progress which is only going to continue. Sonowal thanked the Prime Minister for his focussed attention for the development of the Northeast. The budget will lead to generation of employment opportunities in the country, he said. He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the Finance Minister had presented an all-inclusive budget which touched a wide spectrum of sectors. Sonowal said the hallmark of the budget is that nearly every announcement or initiative reflected in the budget has a strong bearing on people's welfare.
