Taxmen conducted searches on bureaucrats in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and Uttarakhand and found undisclosed income worth over Rs 20 crore. Raids were conducted during the last two days against four government functionaries in these states including against a general manager of the <keyword id="490422" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh-Rajkiya-Nirman-Nigam-Ltd">Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd</keyword> (UPRNN) in Dehradun for alleged "misuse of official position" and subsequent charges of tax evasion. "Documents showing undisclosed investments in farm houses spread over hundreds of bighas and immovable properties in other cities have been seized," a senior official told PTI. Apart from income, tax officials also detected costly assets and luxury vehicles such as Range Rover, an Audi and a BMW car from the premises of the official and his family. They said the I-T teams were surprised to find 15 large LED television sets fitted in the farm house which was constructed on a land earmarked to setup a factory. A well- equipped gym, a guest house and an under-construction swimming pool were also found there. "The department is probing tax evasion to the tune of a few crores against the official and his associates based in <keyword id="47181" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rishikesh">Rishikesh</keyword>," they claimed, without elaborating further. In an another search operation against a local body chairman in UP's Siddharthnagar district, the department detected tax evasion to the "tune of Rs 10 crore as per preliminary estimates." "The Chairman owns two petrol pumps and a gas agency and has been found to be allegedly diverting development grants for personal benefits," the official said. The department also raided the premises of a senior official in Noida and that of a UP road transport department officer based in Kanpur. "The Noida officer was found to have made unaccounted cash payments for purchase of immovable properties worth more than Rs 2 crore in the name of his spouse," the official said, adding he will soon be issued summons to join investigation. Investigation against the Kanpur-based officer is ongoing, the official added. The department, the official said, will undertake similar action against few more bureaucrats who are on its radar for quite sometime now. Over Rs 540 crore <keyword id="6356023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Black-Money">black money</keyword> has been detected by the department in the last 15 days as part of its nation-wide operations to check tax evasion. These actions come after the closure of the <keyword id="3990808" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pradhan-mantri-garib-kalyan-yojna">Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna</keyword> (PMGKY) black money window on March 31. In the first fortnight of the new financial year that began on April 1, the taxman has conducted multiple search and survey operations on entry operators (agents using banking channels to launder funds), shell firms, government officials, real estate players and other sectors. As per an official data compiled till April 15, the department has carried out "over 250 searches and survey operations where the taxman raided at least 300 shell firms and detected more than Rs 540 crore of black money."

Warning black money holders that their undisclosed assets are "not hidden" from its gaze, the <keyword id="6354751" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Income-Tax">Income Tax</keyword> department today advised them to avail the ongoing one-time disclosure window--PMGKY-- to come clean on their stashed funds, according to an agency report. 
 In advertisements released in leading national dailies, the department also published the salient features of the Pradhan Mantri <keyword id="4093662" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="garib-kalyan-yojna">Garib Kalyan Yojna</keyword> (PMGKY), 2016 which was announced by the government post demonetisation in November last year. 
 
"Your undisclosed accounts or cash deposits are not hidden from us. 
 "Helping the less fortunate can help you. <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="invest">Invest</keyword> your undisclosed income in the PMGKY and accelerate the socio- economic growth of the deprived," the department said in the advertisement which displayed pictures of banned Rs 500/1000 notes. 
 
It cautioned that "non declaration of such undisclosed income will be liable to tax, surcharge and cess at the rate of 77.25 per cent along with penalty and prosecution." 
 
The department added that "total confidentiality is ensured" under the scheme that is open till March 31. 
 The I-T department, official sources had told <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword>, has received confirmations for over Rs 300 crore declarations from across the country till now as part of this ongoing black money window. 
 
Under the PMGKY, undisclosed income deposited in any bank or post office account can be declared by paying 50 per cent of it in taxes and surcharges. 
 
Also, a quarter of the total sum is to be parked in a non-interest bearing deposit for four years. 
 
Offering tax dodgers confidentially and immunity from prosecution, PMGKY commenced on December 17, 2016 and will remain open up to March 31.

Lucknow, Jul 1 () After a video purportedly showed health workers tossing bodies of COVID-19 victims in a large pit in Karnataka, BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday said the incident is the "height of cruelty and insult to humanity". She demanded that the guilty be punished. "The tragedy that the bodies of COVID-19 victims being thrown into trenches in Ballari, Karnataka is height of cruelty and an insult to humanity. Though incidents related to inhuman cruelty with corona patients are rampant but guilty of Ballari must be punished by the state government," Mayawati said in a tweet. After the video surfaced online, Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Tuesday said the workers concerned have been suspended. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa expressed shock over the incident. "The behaviour of the health workers with the dead bodies of the COVID-19 victims is inhuman and painful. I appeal to the health workers to be kind to the COVID victims and perform the last rites of the deceased with honour. There is no religion bigger than humanity," he had said in a series of tweets. In a separate tweet, Mayawati asked the Centre to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana till the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. "In order to check ignominy of starvation on account of long unprecedented hardship &amp; unemployment due to coronavirus and the subsequent nationwide lockdown, the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna must continue not till November but till the end of the pandemic, this is the demand of BSP," Mayawati said. Dumping of COVID-19 victims' bodies in K'taka: Mayawati demands guilty be punished

New Delhi, Apr 13 () Twenty-five districts across 15 states which had detected COVID-19 infections earlier have contained the spread and reported no new cases in 14 days, the Union Health Ministry said on Monday.The ministry asserted that the government has enough stocks to conduct tests for up to six weeks and over two lakh samples have been tested so far.Addressing a press briefing here, Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said 796 new COVID-19 cases and 35 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 9,152 and deaths 308."Twenty-five districts across 15 states which had reported cases earlier have contained the virus and have not detected new ones in 14 days. This is a positive development," he said.The districts are Gondia (Maharashtra), Raj Nand Gaon (Chhattisgarh), Davangiri (Karnataka), South Goa, Wayanad and Kottayam (Kerala), West Imphal (Manipur), Rajouri (J&amp;K), Aizwal West (Mizoram), Mahe in Puducherry, SBS Nagar in Punjab, Patna, Nalanda and Munger in Bihar, Pratapgarh in Rajasthan, Panipat, Rohtak and Sirsa in Haryana, Pauri Garhwal in Uttrakhand and Bhadradari Kothagudem in Telangana.Agarwal also said that the Core Strategy Group on COVID-19 was working on rapid and economical diagnostics as well as new drugs."The group has been formed, based on a detailed review of COVID-19 research, undertaken by Union Health Minister Harshvardhan along with CSIR and its 38 labs. The group is working on digital and molecular surveillance, rapid and economical diagnostics, new drugs, repurposing of drugs and associated production processes," he said.According to ICMR officials, 2,06,212 tests for COVID-19 have been conducted so far."Of these 14,855 tests took place at 156 government labs and 1,913 tests happened at 69 private labs on Sunday. There is no need to worry. We have enough stocks to conduct tests for six weeks," an ICMR official said at the briefing.The Union Health Ministry informed that 78,000 self-help group members of 27 states have produced 1.96 crore masks under the State Rural Livelihood Missions."Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna package, over 30,000 poor people have been provided financial support of Rs 28,256 crore during the lockdown up to April 10. This includes support of Rs 19.86 crore to Jan Dhan Yojna women account holders who were transferred Rs 9,930 crores. "Under the PM Kisan Yojna, 6.93 crore farmers have been provided support of Rs 13,855 crore. Under social assistance programmes 2.82 crore widows, senior citizens and disabled have been provided support of Rs 1,405 crore," Agarwal said. PLB GJS IJT

New Delhi, Jun 18 () France and India Thursday signed an agreement committing 200 million euros to increase the state and central governments' capacities to support India's most vulnerable people in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. The credit financing agreement was signed by C.S. Mohapatra, Additional Secretary - Department of Economic Affairs, and Bruno Bosle, Director - AFD (French Development Agency) in India in the virtual presence of Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India, according to a statement by French embassy. "Through this loan, France will work with India to increase the state and central governments' capacities to support the country's most vulnerable people in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis," it said. The programme design, developed by the World Bank in collaboration with the Indian authorities, seeks to optimize and scale up the Indian Government's existing social protection measures, it said. "Focusing on boosting the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojna, the programme will provide further benefits to low-income families to ensure that the health, social and economic shocks arising from Covid-19 do not endanger people's well-being or their contribution to the country's economic growth in the long run," it said. The programme also seeks to protect essential frontline workers of the pandemic, including those in healthcare, sanitation, and security, by providing them with health insurance. Social assistance programmes will also be put in place for migrant workers and low-income urban households that may be unable to seek compensation under PMGKY, it added. Recalling the importance France attaches to facing global challenges through multilateral cooperation, the Ambassador of France to India Lenain, said, "President Macron and Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi have been working together so that the excellent relations between our two countries translate into concrete cooperation in the fight against Covid-19. "The Indian Government's rollout of the PMGKY is a testament to its commitment to ensuring that the most vulnerable sections of society are protected, and it is this commitment that France, through the French Development Agency and its partners, is determined to support." France commits 200 million Euros for India's COVID-19 response

Chandigarh, May 12 () The Punjab government must use the additional Rs 638 crore central grant to provide relief to the people in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and should not give the excuse of lack of funds, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Tuesday.In a statement, Badal thanked the Centre and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for releasing the Rs 638 crore under the revenue deficit grant to Punjab. With this latest allocation, Punjab has now received Rs 5,653 crore under various centrally funded schemes, including special funds for combating the COVID-19 pandemic, the Union minister of food processing industries said. She said the Rs 638 crore should be used to ramp up health infrastructure, besides giving relief to the common people. With the state receiving these funds, it should not make any excuse of lack of funds, said Badal, who represents Bathinda in the Lok Sabha."The (state) government should start work on this immediately and not try to divert attention of the people by repeated talk of lack of funds received from the Centre," she said. Badal said earlier Rs 247 crore had been received by the Punjab government from the Centre under the state disaster risk management fund.She said the central government had already sanctioned the use of the disaster management funds for COVID-19 related works.Besides this, Rs 112 crore had been received under the National Health Mission which has not been utilised till now despite there being a severe shortage of personal protective equipment and ventilators, Badal claimed.There is also the need for more testing kits in Punjab, she said. Punjab has also received a Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package under the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana as well as Rs 71 crore under the MGNREGA, Badal said. "The central food relief includes 5 kg wheat per person per month and 1 kg pulses (per family) per month for a period of three months," the Union minister said. As many as 1.4 crore people will be covered under this scheme which is half the population of the state. "Similarly farmers have been given direct cash benefit of Rs 2,000 under the PM Kisan scheme, besides direct benefits under the Jan Dhan yojna and Ujjwala scheme", she said. VSD CHS ANBANB
