"It's called 'Oops, I did it again,'" Lamoureux said, <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/42981159" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the BBC</a>.</p><p><strong>Here is the move in all its glory:</strong></p><p>"I've done that thousands of times around tyres just set out on open ice," a "thrilled" Lamoureux said.</p><p>However, it has taken years of practice to get it right.</p><p>"I've butchered it a thousand times, ran into tyres, tripped over tyres just working on my hands," she added. "I'm just glad it worked out this time."</p><p>The match was tied at 2-2 when the penalty shoot-out was called, meaning whichever team won via sudden death would win gold.</p><p>Both USA and Canada had scored five penalties each by the time it was Lamoureux's turn, and her goal came moments before an unsuccessful Canadian penalty. USA had done it.</p><p>"This victory is special and it's going to give us an even bigger platform to make a bigger difference," she said.</p><p>Lamoureux's twin sister Monique Lamoureux-Morando, who scored earlier in the game, said: "It's a move that our coach Peter Elander worked on with us over the last four years, not just on the goalie, but against defenders.</p><p>"We've screwed it up plenty of times, but she pulled the perfect time to pull it off."</p><p>It is the USA's first women's ice hockey gold medal for 20 years.</p><div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>LAMOUREUX'S WINNER. The holiday, which is observed by South and North Korea, celebrates the countries' independence from Japan.</p><p>The presidential trip would be the first of its kind since President Roh Moo-hyun met with Kim Jong-il for the <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/10/04/koreas.summit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inter-Korean summit</a> in 2007.</p><p>On Friday, Moon met with Vice President Mike Pence, who is <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/08/politics/mike-pence-moon-jae-in-north-korea/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scheduled to lead the US delegation</a> for the 2018 Winter Olympics. But during a fiercely competed final, she was thrown off balance by Dutch rival Yara van Kerkhof.</p><p>"I was knocked over," the devastated skater said in a tearful interview with the BBC after the race. She later sought help from a psychologist.</p><p>"I had a crash at the games [in Sochi]," <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-olympics/42878234" target="_blank" rel="noopener">she explained recently to the BBC</a>. "The Korean girl was taken out and I then received a lot of death threats and online abuse from South Koreans."</p><p><a href="https://www.scotsman.com/sport/more-in-sport/korea-death-threats-sent-elise-christie-to-psychologist-1-4536340" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Speaking to The Scotsman last year</a>, Christie added: "Eventually, I had to go and ask for some help. I struggled with the fact that my sport led to death threats. I couldn't link how that worked."</p><p>But between Sochi and Pyeongchang, she said Korean fans "were really sorry for how they treated me" and forgave her. "People became fans," she said.</p><p>Despite falling in the 500-metre short track speed skating final, Christie has two more chances to get a medal. North Korea's upcoming performance will mark the first time in 16 years the country has appeared in South Korea, and the largest ever assembled for a performance in the country.</p><p>"We believe that a great symphony will be enthusiastically received," Kwon Hyok-bong, North Korea's chief delegate, reportedly <a href="http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/01/north-south-korea-discuss-troupe-olympics-visit-180115062255988.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. "In that sense, we hope that the talks could go smoothly so as to help our art troupe perform well in the South."</p><p>The agreement follows the second round of the bilateral talks between North and South Korea at the border, the first official talks between the neighboring countries in two years.</p><p>During the talks, North Korea reportedly expressed <a href="http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr/nk/2018/01/16/4807070000AKR20180116047100014.HTML" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interest</a> in having its art troupe walk across the border, similar to the handful of delegates that arrived for the first round of the talks last week. Although the gesture may be symbolic for the two countries ahead of the Winter Olympics, the large number of performers that would be crossing the border was said to be unprecedented and would require advice from the United Nations Command.</p><p>The proposed border-crossing of a large delegation may also set the stage for North Korea to grab media attention for propaganda purposes - winning hearts at home and minds abroad. Similar trips in the past from North Korean delegates resulted in propaganda puffery, including one incident where a delegation got off their bus in tears, and took down a poster of their leader shaking hands with the South Korean president.</p><p>The bilateral talks also fueled speculation on whether the Moranbong Band, a North Korean all-female band formed by Kim Jong Un himself, will also be performing after its leader, Hyon Song-wol, attended the meetings.</p><p>Despite the apparent warming relations with the South Korea, the North's upcoming performances could still lead to new provocations and a fresh diplomatic row with the South. Kim, however, said on Wednesday that South Korea would reconsider the decision if Japan reverses its removal of South Korea from its trade whitelist.</p><p>"The ball has been passed into Japan's court," Kim said Wednesday, according to Yonhap. South Korea's massive domestic electronic industry needs those key high-tech materials to make semiconductors and display screens.</p><p>The government in Seoul has promised to invest 5 trillion won ($4.12 billion) to stabilize the supply chains affected by the trade war in the next two years, <a href="https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-southkorea-japan-labourers/south-korea-summons-japan-ambassador-as-export-trade-curbs-take-effect-idUKKCN1VI0B0">Reuters reported</a>.</p><p>The US, which has strong trade and security relationships with both South Korea and Japan, have repeatedly called on the two countries to resolve their differences through dialogue.</p><p>Japan and South Korea's foreign ministers met in Beijing - alongside their Chinese counterpart - last week, but failed to come to a resolution. citing a "trust issue" it had created in the two countries' bilateral security relations, <a href="https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20190822012500325?section=national/diplomacy">Yonhap reported</a>.</p><p>Kim You-geun, the deputy director South Korea's National Security Council, noted in a Thursday statement that Japan had on August 2 <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/japan-south-korea-trade-war-whitelist-preferential-partners-wwii-tensions-2019-8">dropped South Korea from its list</a> of favored trading partners "without providing clear ground."</p><p>This, he said, led to a "grave change in security cooperation circumstances between the two nations," <a href="https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20190822011753315?section=national/diplomacy">Yonhap reported</a>.</p><p>South Korea also dropped Japan from its export whitelist ten days after Tokyo's decision, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/south-korea-japan-trade-war-new-trade-category-2019-8">created an entirely new country category</a> to punish Japan economically.</p><p>Those moves mean on Wednesday and Thursday, but failed to achieve a breakthrough, Yonhap and Reuters reported.</p><p>They have, however, promised to continue talking.</p><p>"Although ties between Japan and South Korea are in a very tough situation, we believe we should cooperate with South Korea where cooperation is necessary," Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Thursday, shortly before Seoul's South Korea and ruled it with an iron fist until 1945.</p><p>Tensions bubbled to the surface late last year when the South Korean <span>Supreme Court ordered Japanese companies to compensate Korean laborers who were forced to work for them during World War II. </span></p><p><span>The Japanese government maintains it settled all colonial-era debts in a 1965 pact, and many Japanese companies Japan and South Korea failed to make headway in this meeting.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Why ending the intelligence pact is a big deal</h2><p>GSOMIA went into effect in November 2016, and was apparently created out of the US's strong encouragement, Yonhap and <a href="https://apnews.com/b6f4856f55294c68a4f8228a45ddf362">the Associated Press</a> (AP) reported. </p><p>The intelligence pact sped up information exchange between the two countries, which previously only exchanged information via the US, the AP reported. Col. Dave Eastburn, a spokesman for the US Department of <keyword id="6354810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="defense">Defense</keyword>, said <a href="https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20190822012700325?section=national/diplomacy">according to Yonhap</a> and Reuters: "We encourage Japan and Korea to work together to resolve their differences. I hope they can do this quickly."</p><p>"We are all stronger - and Northeast Asia is safer - when the United States, Japan and Korea work together in solidarity and friendship," he added. "Intel-sharing is key to developing our common defense policy and strategy."</p><p>The US has a total of 80,000 troops in South Korea and Japan combined, according to the AP.</p><p>Ankit Panda, a security expert and adjunct senior fellow at the Federation of American Scientists, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/22/world/asia/south-korea-japan-intelligence.html">told The New York Times</a>: "We're going to lose an important source of information-sharing between our two allies at a very dangerous time."</p><p>"I think the two countries can be fairly described as adversaries now," he added. Japan colonized South Korea in 1910 and ruled it with an iron fist until the end of World War II.</strong></li><li><strong><strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</strong></strong></li></ul><p>South Korea and Japan's trade war just got a lot worse after the two countries dropped each other from their list of trusted economic partners, further reigniting their decades-long political and economic tensions.</p><p>The Japanese government on Friday <a href="https://www.meti.go.jp/english/press/2019/0802_001.html">announced</a> its decision to remove South Korea from its so-called "whitelist" of favored trading partners.</p><p>This means that Japanese exporters of "strategic" goods will need to obtain more permits and go through additional screening to make sure their products are not being used by South Korea's military or weapons industry, <a href="https://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-southkorea-japan-laborers/south-korea-says-wont-be-defeated-again-as-japan-trade-row-escalates-idUKKCN1US03M">Reuters reported</a>.
