Most investors can buy something like that, they're rated AAA.The folks on my team also really liked the concept. Once in a while they would take a day and go to a conference. I told them they had to ask what the investors wanted. The investors said they wanted these bonds in bigger size and from different issuers. We made some internal pitches of who those issuers could be. The obvious one was ourselves since the concept was important to the bank, and the bank raises debt on a frequent basis. It took a couple of years but that's what we ended up doing.BM: Is there anything that you learned in those years that would be applicable to someone who might want to do the same thing?SB: For an individual, whatever role they have, they can find a way to apply their passion to every area of their life. They have to incorporate it into their life day-to-day. They might find that there's no way to incorporate it into their jobs, in which case that would motivate them to move to different jobs. Many things in the world don't exist without financing and you can finance positive things. And green companies from their inception need financing, so within a bank there's lots of ways to work on the green story.BM: How bad could the environment get? Are you stockpiling food? What future scenarios are most likely?SB: I honestly try not to think about it. I saw a video about what the world will look like in a 2 celsius world, a 3c world, and a 4c world. It was around the same time I was trying to grow a tomato plant for the third year in a row, but was having a lack of success that year because it got so hot that the tomato plants just stopped growing.So I was aware that extreme heat did cause a problem with food growth. The video was also showing that extreme heat stopped food from actually growing. That's very scary. And based on my tomato plant, completely believable. So, what am I doing? NEW DELHI: <keyword id="5268" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi">Rahul Gandhi</keyword> has said he is ready to take any responsibility given to him by the <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> leadership, refueling speculation that he might be anointed the party’s PM candidate at the AICC session in Delhi on Friday. 
 
"There is no word called reluctance in my life," he said in an interview to a Hindi daily when asked whether he was wary of accepting responsibilities. 
 
"People of India will decide through their elected representatives who will be the PM of the country. In national interest, it is a must that Congress returns to power. And to fulfill that objective, I will discharge with full dedication every responsibility that the party has given to me or will give me in the future," he further said. 
 He also clarified that his earlier comment, quoting <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword>, that power was like poison did not connote an aversion to power, emphasizing that what he meant to say was that power should be used for the betterment of others, not for self-aggrandizement. 
 
Rahul did evade a direct response to a question about the possibility of a "specific" and "direct" declaration, saying this had never been the party’s style. He also expressed reservation over the obsession with individual personalities and individual posts: a reference to the incessant "will he be, won’t he be" talk about whether he will be declared the PM nominee. 
 
Yet, Rahul’s remarks were interpreted as his readiness to be announced the PM candidate. There has been stubborn clamour within Congress for the young leader to be named the party’s PM pick. 
 Significantly, the interview did not lift the uncertainty on what might unfold at the AICC session on Friday. Congress seems to be divided whether it should name Rahul as the PM candidate or should it stick to the old policy of going into elections without a <keyword id="2015473" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="formal-PM">formal PM</keyword> nominee. 
 
The party has in the last week or so oscillated between the ambitious desire to declare him to be the PM nominee at the AICC huddle on the one hand, and the hardnosed recognition that doing so could be risky and might dent Brand Rahul at a time when the going is not good for the party in any case. 
 
A section in the party believes there is little to be gained by keeping the ambiguity about leadership since Rahul is anyways seen to be leading the Congress and applause and criticism are bound to be directed at him. 
 
Instead, this school of thought thinks that naming Rahul would give a sense of direction to the party and would show it as a confident player in the 2014 elections. 
 But opinion is divided because there is also another group that holds that putting Rahul up for the contest would harm the party’s prospects. With BJP having announced <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> as its PM candidate, it would bring Rahul directly in contest with the Gujarat <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">chief minister</keyword> and open him to closer scrutiny. 
 
It is felt there is little to be gained from changing the party policy of not going into elections with a PM candidate. 
 Many believe that facilitating a "Rahul vs Modi" battle would reduce the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections to a direct battle between two aspirants while keeping Rahul out of the prime ministerial race would let the national battle become an aggregate of state elections which would bring local factors into play. The BJP’s geographical limitation come into play in the absence of a "Rahul vs Modi" contest, this group argues. 
 
Interestingly, the interview was marked by what looked like an almost unprovoked reference to three figures from India’s history. "India has witnessed Samrat Ashok, Akbar and Aurangzeb. Ashok is famous for integrating people, Akbar too worked in this direction and this is why people take their name with great respect. However, Aurangzeb is known for other reasons," he said. Many wondered whether the allusion was a dig at Modi. 
 Rahul also made his first direct criticism of the <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> even as he complimented the rookie outfit for seeking to change the nature and role of politics. "<keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> has also worked toward this direction, but we are two different entities with different ideologies and different styles of working. I don’t agree with many of their recent decisions because our decisions should not be based on short-term gains, instead the decision should be made while keeping long-term benefits and a secure future for people," he said.

Although an online poll by this newspaper suggests that popular opinion is against Rahul Gandhi being projected by the Congress as its prime ministerial candidate, we feel he should take the plunge. There are two reasons for this. First, a strong perception has grown that the Gandhi scion is averse to taking up responsibility that comes with accountability. If he steps up to the plate for the upcoming PM’s contest, he may or may not succeed, but he will certainly dispel this impression and will be taken seriously by the people. It can only help him. Secondly, for long Rahul has been hovering in the wings, exercising considerable authority without any formal responsibility – for instance, the way he intervened to scupper an ordinance. But it is no substitute for real responsibility. Nor is it a happy situation. It's time for him to stand up and be counted.

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12012699" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="jacob-chansley" source="Orion">Jacob Chansley</keyword>, known as the "<keyword id="12012698" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="qanon-shaman" source="Orion">QAnon Shaman</keyword>," received one of the longest prison sentences stemming from <keyword id="11897870" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="january-6" source="Orion">January 6</keyword>.</li><li>Chansley and his defense lawyer charmed the judge with praise and remorse for the attack on the Capitol.</li></ul>Wearing a green jumpsuit, his head closely shaved, Jacob Chansley sat in a federal courthouse Wednesday just blocks from the US Capitol, where 10 months earlier he emerged as the posterboy of the pro-Trump mob that ransacked the seat of American democracy.But he was a far cry from the alter ego he assumed in Washington DC on January 6 — the so-called QAnon Shaman who called out, "Time's up, motherfuckers!" as he stormed the Capitol in a horned headdress, fur pelts and facepaint.Chansley would leave court Wednesday as the recipient of the longest prison sentence stemming from the January 6 attack. At the end of a two-hour court hearing, Judge <keyword id="12554577" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="royce-lamberth" source="Orion">Royce Lamberth</keyword> <a href="https://www.insider.com/qanon-shaman-jacob-chansley-sentenced-capitol-riot-2021-11">sentenced him</a> to 41 months in prison — a term 10 months shorter than what federal prosecutors had recommended after Chansley pleaded guilty to obstructing an official proceeding. "Although you've evolved in your thinking and reversed your thinking in many ways, what you did here was horrific," Lamberth told Chansley.The prison terms equals what the same judge ordered last week for a 44-year-old former mixed martial arts fighter, Scott Fairlamb, who pleaded guilty to assaulting a Capitol police officer on January 6.Chansley was arrested in Arizona on January 9, just three days after cameras captured him clutching an American flag as he strode through the Capitol in his shaman getup. His image ripped through the internet, turning him overnight into the face of the pro-Trump mob that stormed the Capitol in a bid to block the certification of now-President Joe Biden's electoral victory."He made himself the image of the riot, didn't he?" Lamberth said Wednesday.In the aftermath of the Capitol attack, the <keyword id="11897354" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="justice-department" source="Orion">Justice Department</keyword> has brought more than 600 prosecutions as part of an investigation federal authorities have described as unprecedented in its scope. Many of the cases have ended with admissions to misdemeanor charges and attracted relatively little attention.On Wednesday, a phalanx of television cameras came for the occasion of Chansley's sentencing.<h2><div type="image" title="District Judge Royce C. Lamberth " height="2408" width="3211" msid="87766856" hostid="261"></div>A charm offensive</h2>At the court hearing Wednesday, Chansley put on a charm offensive in hopes of receiving what his defense lawyer had requested: a time-served sentence that accounted for the months he has spent in solitary confinement but with no further time in custody.Flanked by a deputy US marshal, with his lawyer Albert Watkins pacing nearby, Chansley described Lamberth as a man of honor and mentioned the judge's past military service. Chansley even thanked Lamberth for granting him the organic diet he desired in jail."I took a lot of flak for that," Lamberth said."God bless you for it. It made all the difference," Chansley said, before adding: "I could not have asked God for a better judge."Lamberth was struck by the kind words. A day earlier, the appointee of President Ronald Reagan celebrated his 34th anniversary on the federal bench, and he thanked Chansley for comments he said were the "most remarkable I've heard in 34 years.""I think you are genuine in your remorse and heartfelt," the judge added. "Parts of those remarks are akin to the kinds of things Martin Luther King would have said." <h2><div type="image" title="qanon shaman jacob chansley" height="1060" width="1413" msid="87766858" hostid="261"></div></h2><h2>'You really dig'</h2>In a nearly half-hour address, Chansley invoked Jesus and Mahatma Gandhi as he presented himself to Lamberth as a remorseful, changed man who took responsibility for his conduct on January 6. At one point, describing the strain of solitary confinement, he quoted the 1994 film "Shawshank Redemption" and said, "Hope is a dangerous thing.""You really dig when you're locked up 22 hours a day," he said at another point in the hearing.His defense lawyer, Albert Watkins, said Chansley had undergone an evolution in jail. During his first weeks in custody, Chansley hoped to receive a pardon from former President Donald Trump and was disappointed not to receive one, Watkins said.Watkins said Chansley came to view images from January 6 with a "detached view of a former self" and eventually wanted to be held accountable for his role in the Capitol siege."There's no question his views have evolved," the judge said. "Let me guarantee you, you were smart. You did the right thing," the judge added, on Chansley's decision to plead guilty. "And you owned up to it today in a fashion that's unusual for me to see."

Shiv Sena may have shared power with ideologically-opposite Congress for the first time, but the saffron party is known to have cosied up with it before and posters with old pictures of bonhomie between their leaders Bal Thackeray and Indira Gandhi taken in the seventies were put up in different parts of the city. Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray took oath Thursday evening at the historic Shivaji Park supported by the Congress and the NCP. Besides late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and former prime minister Indira Gandhi, NCP President Sharad Pawar also figured in the posters. Those aware of its past, the Shiv Sena, known for its firebrand Hindutva politics, seeking support of the Congress and the NCP does not come as a surprise. From backing Congress candidates in presidential polls to not fielding any contender against Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule to even tying up with ideologically opposite Muslim League, the Shiv Sena has had a history of flirting with 'frenemies'. In the assembly polls held last month, the BJP won 105 seats, the Shiv Sena bagged 56, followed by the NCP (54) and the Congress (48) in the 288-member House. The Shiv Sena, founded by Bal Thackeray in 1966, in its more than five decades long journey has allied with the Congress, formally and informally. In its initial days, it was often supported directly or indirectly by many Congress leaders and its different factions. Noted political analyst Suhas Palshikar in an article in the Economic and Political Weekly writes that senior state Congress leader Ramrao Adik was present at the first ever Shiv Sena rally. Dhaval Kulkarni, the author of "The Cousins Thackeray-Uddhav and Raj and in the shadow of their Sena", said that in the 1960s and 70s, the party was mostly used by the Congress to counter influence of the Left on the labour unions in the city. The party in 1971 allied with Congress (O) and unsuccessfully fielded three candidates for Lok Sabha in Mumbai and the Konkan region. Thackeray backed the Emergency in 1977 and did not field any candidate for the Lok Sabha polls held in that year. "In 1977, it also backed Congress' Murli Deora in the mayoral polls," said Kulkarni. So much so that the party was also mocked as 'Vasantsena', the army of the then Vasantrao Naik who was the state chief minister from 1963 to 1974. Palshikar writes that in 1978, when attempts to ally with the Janata Party failed, the Shiv Sena allied with the Congress (I), the faction led by Indira Gandhi. It fielded 33 candidates for the assembly polls. All 33 lost in the anti-Indira wave. In one of the most unlikely alliances, the Sena also allied with the Muslim League. Veteran journalist Prakash Akolkar, in his book on Shiv Sena titled 'Jai Maharashtra', writes that for winning the Mumbai mayoral polls in the 1970s, Shiv Sena also allied with the Muslim League. For this, the Sena supremo also shared stage with Muslim League leader G M Banatwala at Mastan Talao in Nagpada in South Mumbai, Sena's first chief minister Manohar Joshi writes in his book 'Shiv Sena-Kal-Aaj-Udya' (Shiv Sena-Past-Present and Future). If it was used by the Congress to end the Left dominance on trade unions in Mumbai, the Sena allied with Madhu Dandavate's Praja Socialist Party in 1968. The bonhomie between the Congress and the Sena ended in the 80s after the death of Indira Gandhi and the ties between the two were not the same. The relations only deteriorated during the terms of Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and later Rahul Gandhi. Incidentally, Uddhav's son and Sena's Youth Wing chief Aditya Thackeray met Sonia on Wednesday to extend invitation to oath-taking ceremony. The mid-80's was also the time when the Sena tilted towards Hindutva and gravitated towards the BJP. The late 80s and 90s changed the character of the party which moved towards hardline Hindutuva. In the later years, the Shiv Sena, however, broke ranks from the BJP-led NDA and voted for Congress backed Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee in presidential polls. The equation between the Thackerays and the Pawars goes back to more than five decades both were fierce rivals separated by conflicting ideologies but thick friends in private life. Pawar often termed Thackeray as a large-hearted opponent. In his attacks, he would often call him 'maidyaacha pota' (sack of flour). Sharad Pawar in his autobiography 'On My Terms' writes that despite being fierce rivals, how he and his wife Pratibha would visit Matoshree for "gupshup" and dinner. He also recalls that when he was suffering from cancer in 2004, Bal Thackeray gave him a list of "several commandments" related to diet. In private, Pawar says, Thackeray addressed him as 'Sharadbabu'. In 2006, when Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule contested the Rajya Sabha polls, Thackeray did not field any candidate. "Sharadbabu, I have seen her (Sule) since she was a knee-high girl. This is a big step in her career. My party will make sure that she goes to Rajya Sabha unopposed," Pawar said quoting Thackeray's telephonic conversation with him. When Pawar asked about the BJP's opposition, the NCP President says the senior Thackeray told him, "Oh, you don't worry about Kamlabai (the BJP)". Incidentally, the NCP fielded a lightweight against Thackeray's grandson Aditya, who was the first in his family to enter electoral politics. He won by a margin of over 67,000 votes in the recent Assembly election.
