But the mysterious circumstances surrounding the ban have now been revealed.</p><p>On Tuesday, that streamer, Guy Beahm — better known by his "Dr Disrespect" persona — shared why. He'd sent messages "that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate" to a minor over Twitch in 2017, <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/DrDisrespect/status/1805668256088572089">he revealed in an explosive statement on X</a>.</p><p>"Were there twitch whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes," Beahm wrote, referencing the "Whisper" direct messaging product on the platform. "Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not."</p><p>The revelation sent shockwaves throughout the gaming world and led to swift repercussions as multiple companies severed ties with the content creator, known for his online streams playing "Call of Duty" and other games that draw millions of views.</p><p>Beahm moved to YouTube after his Twitch ban — though he's never announced a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/twitch-defections-to-youtube-paint-incomplete-picture-of-livestreaming-2022-7">formal streaming contract with YouTube</a>, and he's been <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/DrDisrespect/status/1521284955082412032">critical of the platform</a> <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/DrDisrespect/status/1714320986919874813">over the years</a>.</p><p>On his livestreams, the 42-year-old Beahm wears a black mullet wig, and has cultivated the brash persona of Dr Disrespect as "the most ruthless, athletic competitor in video game history," per his Instagram profile.</p><p>So why did this all come to light now?</p><p>Beahm's statement confirming his messages to a minor comes days after a former Twitch employee <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/evoli/status/1804309358106546676">said on X</a> that an unnamed streamer, widely believed to be referring to Beahm, had been "caught sexting a minor" and "trying to meet up with her at TwitchCon" — a convention hosted by the Amazon-owned platform.</p><p>In the days that followed the Twitch employee's social media post, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/25/24185821/dr-disrespect-twitch-ban-explanation-inappropriate-messages">The Verge</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-06-25/youtuber-dr-disrespect-was-allegedly-kicked-off-twitch-for-messaging-minor">Bloomberg</a> separately reported that Beahm had been banned from the platform for messaging a minor.</p><h2 id="03317cf2-795b-4217-9af2-91a29429bcad">'Nothing illegal happened'</h2><p>In his statement, Beahm denied being a predator or pedophile.</p><p>"Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual," he wrote.</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">THE TWITCH BAN<br /><br />Hello, I'd like to make a quick statement..<br /><br />Lets cut the fucking bullshit, as you know there's no filter with me. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11908908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="twitch" source="Orion">Twitch</keyword> streamer <keyword id="12021097" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="arcadum" source="Orion">Arcadum</keyword> has been accused of sexual harassment by several members of his community.</li><li>Over 21 Twitlonger statements have been released in the past week from former collaborators.</li><li>The streamer responded in his own statement that he "never engaged in nonconsensual activity."</li></ul><p>A Twitch streamer who gained a following for playing <keyword id="12021096" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dungeons-and-dragons" source="Orion">Dungeons and Dragons</keyword> online is responding to a wave of misconduct allegations that have surfaced on social media this week.</p><p>Streamer Jeremy Black, known online as Arcadum, pushed back on allegations of emotional manipulation and sexual harassment from nearly two dozen individuals in a statement Thursday. </p><p>Over the course of the past week, 21 streamers and colleagues who worked or collaborated with Black released Twitlonger statements detailing their alleged experiences with him. The allegations ranged from Black masturbating while on a call to forcing a woman up against a wall to kiss her. </p><p>Black, who has over 240,000 <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/arcadum">followers on Twitch</a> and ran a virtual reality roleplay world called <a href="https://callousrow.com/">Callous Row</a>, works with popular streamers like <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOng2htlHwU">Michael Reeves, LilyPichu</a>, and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuCvkLMjUA4">Moon Moon</a>, as well as traditional celebrities like <a href="https://twitter.com/feliciaday/status/1321128466012532736?lang=en">Felicia Day.</a>   </p><p>Black had created a network of volunteer artists, coders, and community members who helped him run his Dungeon and Dragons campaigns and Callous Row roleplay sessions. </p><p>Some members of that community alleged that Black used his position to pressure women into emotionally and sexually gratifying him.</p><h2><strong>Three women claim that Black sexually harassed them online and in virtual reality</strong></h2><p>Multiple women said Black sexually harassed them on Discord or the video game VRChat, where users can control the bodies of avatars using virtual reality controllers and headsets. Most of the women Black engaged with were VTuber streamers, who use virtual avatars controlled with face and body tracking technology. None of those who shared their stories released their real names and many of the stories that happened in-game were not recorded and lack corroboration. </p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet blockquote" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation="">-Arcadum  (@GloriousArcadum) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/1433495280339595269?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 2, 2021</a></blockquote><p><a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srq8vb">Kelli Siren,</a> a Twitch streamer with 17,000 followers, wrote that she had been a close friend of Black's for 3 years. She said that while in a VR Chat call, Black would comment on her character's breasts and ask "could he touch them." She wrote he would ask her to "help him find sexual release" and she "got really tired of the random requests to do sexual stuff" after she said she denied his requests multiple times. </p><p>"I said yes sometimes, because I would just get tired of dealing with the constant asking," Siren wrote. "I was afraid he'd drop our friendship. I was afraid of him." </p><p>Siren describes his actions as "harassing" in the Twitlonger and <a href="https://gyazo.com/e6a4fe46a3201a56f710c0771be92e98">shared purported Discord messages</a> where Black appeared to coerce her into sexual activity (Insider was unable to confirm the authenticity of these messages). </p><p>"The longer I knew him, the more pain and paranoia he brought to my life," Siren wrote. </p><p>Siren did not respond to questions by publication time. </p><p><a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srq8vc">UzuriMia</a>, a Twitch streamer with 11,000 followers , wrote in her statement that Black would ask her for VR "lap dances" in June 2020 (she told Insider she had an extra hip and foot tracker that allowed her to dance). She claimed in the statement that one month later, Black asked for "erotic roleplay" from her. She told him she wasn't interested and they stopped talking shortly after. She told Insider that she would classify his actions as "harassment" because "I told him I wasn't comfortable doing sexual things with him and he would push and push repeatedly until I firmly said no and shut it down completely." </p><p>"I was honestly scared of making things awkward or getting kicked out of RP or him just not being my friend anymore," UzuriMia wrote.</p><p><a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srq8va">Lyra121</a>, a VRChat avatar creator, said in her statement that Black asked for "personal lap dances." Lyra121 declined to comment. </p><p>Twitch streamer <a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srq90g">Remi The Siren, who has 22,000 followers,</a> wrote in her statement that Black "asked me if I was okay with him masturbating while he was on a call with me and if I could help him" which she said made her "EXTREMELY uncomfortable." She wrote that she felt pressured to oblige since she was a member of his campaign and was "holding money and a spot in the D&amp;D group over my head." Remi did not return a request for comment. </p><p>"Once he finished himself off he said he was tired and just kinda wrapped up our voice call," Remi The Siren wrote. </p><p><a href="https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srq8vg">Momo</a>, a VTuber with over 200,000 Twitch followers wrote that she believed she was "groomed" by Black and that he "twisted me to always believe his words, no matter what we talked about." Momo did not return a request for comment. </p><p>One allegation took place off the internet. <a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vXVU0Y3Z1n_4PSJIwLHjtsgRsdtbXcQCbPykzAfLGGI/edit">Folkona</a> said in a Google Doc statement that she was "sexually assaulted" by Black in November 2019. She claimed that she invited him to her home for a weekend and he had asked for a "hug" which "led to him forcing me up against the wall" and "he started kissing my neck and trying to hide it behind crying." Folkona did not return a request for comment. </p><p>Many of the other statements echoed similar accusations against Black.  </p><h2><strong>Black responded in a Twitlonger after the allegations spread online</strong></h2><p>After the Twitlongers about Black's alleged behavior were posted, the CMO of influencer agency NOVO Devin Nash, posted his own Twitlonger to announce that Black would be dropped as a client. </p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet blockquote" data-lang="en" data-cards="" data-conversation="">-Devin  (@DevinNash) <a href="https://twitter.com/mims/statuses/1432787621328080901?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 31, 2021</a></blockquote><p>In Black's Thursday response, the streamer wrote that he "developed and engaged in a wide range of relationships with people over the years'' and that he "never engaged in nonconsensual activity." He wrote that his fiance Tiffany Tiefling found out last week about sexual messages Black sent other women.</p><p>"This was a painful experience, and as a result, I have learned and reckoned with many of the mistakes I have made," Black wrote. "I will not be streaming as I continue to reflect on my actions and seek therapy for personal issues I have struggled with for some time." </p><p>Tiefling on a <a href="https://www.twitch.tv/sivelle">Wednesday live stream </a>said that she "read through" the direct message conversations Black was having with women on Discord and distanced herself from him "the moment I saw proof."  </p><p>"The initial women involved got together following Arcadum banning a bunch of us from various servers," NaomiOop, one of the women who <a href="https://twitter.com/NaomiOop/status/1432545846625816580">released a statement</a> and a Twitch streamer with 80,000 followers, told Insider. The Razer Kiyo webcam is perfect for gaming and streaming, with a bright ring light and sharp image quality

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Xiaomi has launched its first virtual reality headset, the Mi VR Play.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Chinese tech firm describes the device as "an entry-level product that seeks to bring the VR experience to a much wider audience." In other words, it's much more Google Cardboard than&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.techinsider.io/oculus-rift-review-2016-3" target="_blank">Oculus Rift</a>, or even <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-gear-vr-review-2016-1" target="_blank">Samsung's Oculus-supported Gear VR</a>.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57a3592ddd08957b3d8b4cc3-1456/mi%20vr%20play_05.jpg" alt="Xiaomi Mi VR Play headset" data-mce-source="Xiaomi"><p class="source"><span>Xiaomi</span></p><p class="caption">The Xiaomi Mi VR Play headset.</p></img></div><p></p></div></div>Xiaomi says the Mi VR Play works with smartphones ranging from 4.7 to 5.7 inches. Those go from basic black, to denim, to more flamboyant floral and leopard prints.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Alongside the hardware is a Mi VR app, an "open platform" that currently has content from Conde Nast and YouKu (which is effectively China's version of YouTube). Think&#xa0;more "video clips" than "full-scale games."&#xa0;</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Xiaomi also tells us the&#xa0;headset will not be compatible with <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/google-announces-daydream-vr-platform-2016-5" target="_blank">Google's new Daydream platform</a>.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As is often the case with Xiaomi, the headset is limited to China at the moment, and is available for cheap. It isn't </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">fully </span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">available though - currently, Xiaomi's only giving the Mi VR Play to a few thousand beta testers. The 'Apple of China' just launched its first VR headset - and it comes in leopard print

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Disney outlined its vision Monday for how virtual reality could change the way we watch sports. </li><li>CEO Bob Iger shared the "sneak peek" as partner Apple unveiled its upcoming Vision Pro headset.</li></ul><p>Disney gave a glimpse on Monday into its vision for how VR could change the way we watch sports, and the possibilities give new meaning to picture-in-picture and on-screen stats.</p><p>CEO Bob Iger said at <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYkq9Rgoj8E" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Apple's 2023 Worldwide Developers Conference</a>, where it unveiled its new Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, that Disney will be developing new entertainment experiences for the platform. He shared a "sneak peek" of what those could look like, including a reimagined sports-viewing experience.</p><p>The ESPN owner's preview for sports on Vision Pro could display five games at once with the ability to easily toggle between them and access your favorite teams and leagues from the same view. </p><div type="image" title="A view of how sports could be shown in Apple's Vision Pro headset." height="862" width="1717" msid="100791310" hostid="261" sizebytes="63408"></div><p>Focusing on one match-up could enable fans to see multiple angles of the on-field action, including court-side views, buttressed by detailed stats.</p><div type="image" title="Stats appear in a view of sports on Apple's Vision Pro headset." height="845" width="1717" msid="100791313" hostid="261" sizebytes="71092"></div><p>Viewers could also choose to watch in-depth replays. </p><div type="image" title="A view of what sports replays could look like on Apple's Vision Pro headset." height="854" width="1720" msid="100791315" hostid="261" sizebytes="18936"></div><p>"You could do more than just watch sports," the voiceover said. "You could be at the game without leaving your home or be part of the action like never before."</p><p>It's unclear how much of this viewing experience will be available when the Vision Pro is slated to start shipping <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-vision-pro-mixed-reality-headset-specs-cost-release-date-2023-6">early next year</a>. Iger said Disney+, the company's flagship streaming service, would be available on day one, but did not mention its sports streamer ESPN+.</p><p>But Disney's plan shows the media giant, which <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/disney-ceo-chapek-rejects-activist-loebs-call-espn-spin-off-ft-2022-09-11/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faced investor pressure to spin off ESPN</a> in the recent past, still sees sports as a key part of its future.</p><p>The Apple partnership <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-ceo-bob-iger-gets-win-apple-vision-pro-partnership-2023-6">was a much-needed win for Iger</a>, who has been putting out fires at Disney since his November 2022 <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/inside-return-disney-ceo-bob-iger-ouster-chapek-executive-complaints-2022-11">return as CEO</a>. In recent months, Iger has also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-layoffs-7000-jobs-to-be-cut-2023-2" rel="">cut 7,000 jobs</a> amid economic headwinds.</p><p>The offering could also provide an opportunity for some of Disney's sports partners to rethink how they engage fans. The preview included many of Disney's marquee sports properties — including the NBA, NHL, MLB, college football, and Formula 1 — some of which are known to be on the cutting edge of technology. Formula 1's Mercedes-AMG Petronas team, for instance, <a href="https://twitter.com/MercedesAMGF1/status/436079011484016640?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">experimented back in 2014</a> with using the iPad to put fans in the driver's seat during races. And the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dirk-nowitski-dallas-mavericks-nba-winning-the-social-media-war-2011-6">NBA has long been at the forefront of social media</a>.</p><p>Apple has moved into sports in recent years, too, acquiring the rights to stream MLB's "Friday Night Baseball" and inking a deal to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-will-sell-ads-in-major-league-soccer-broadcasts-2022-11">stream live MLS matches</a> on Apple TV+ for the next 10 seasons. The company did not discuss plans for sports on the Vision Pro.</p>
