Mumbai, Sunny Deol-starrer "<keyword id="1847504" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gadar-2" source="Orion">Gadar 2</keyword>" has crossed the Rs 450 crore-mark at the domestic box office, the makers said on Monday. Directed by Anil Sharma, the Hindi feature film is a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha", which also starred Deol and Ameesha Patel. In a post on X, production house Zee Studios said "Gadar 2" had raised Rs 456.05 crore at the ticket window since its release on August 11. "THANK YOU, for making Hindustan ki asli blockbuster break records!" the banner captioned the tweet. According to the makers, the film has set the record for "fastest Rs 450 crore" in net box office collections. Sharma also took to X to express his gratitude to the audience. "The #GADAR cont .. It's people's film for people .. (sic)" the director wrote. Set in 1971, "Gadar 2" follows Tara Singh (Deol)'s journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh (Utkarsh Sharma) from the Pakistani Army. Gadar 2 sets new benchmark for Week 2 box office collections

Directed by Anil Sharma, the film is a sequel to Deol's 2001 blockbuster "Gadar: Ek Prem Katha". The actor has reprised his iconic role of Tara Singh in the film, released in theatres on August 11. The film had collected Rs 83.18 crore in the first two days of its release and on Sunday, registered a surge of over 20 per cent. The film has created a "non-solo, non-holiday release's fastest 100-crore milestone", the makers said in a press note. "With each passing day, its dominance has only grown stronger, culminating in a staggering day three collection of Rs 51.70 crore net, amassing a colossal total of Rs 134.88 crore net," they said. Produced by Zee Studios, the movie also features Ameesha Patel returning as Sakeena and Ukarsh Sharma as Charanjeet. "Gadar 2" is set in 1971 and follows Tara Singh's journey to Pakistan to rescue his son, Charanjeet Singh from the Pakistani Army. The original was set during the Partition.

successes in the recent past extends beyond Hollywood, Bollywood and Telugu cinema. The recent months have seen a lot of traction from regional movies — extending beyond the South movies. Punjabi movie Carry on Jetta 3, starring Gippy Grewal and Jaswinder Bhalla, became the first movie to cross the ₹100 crore mark in worldwide collections even as it grossed over half of that in India. A Marathi movie — which also boasts of an all-female lead starring Rohini Hattangadi and Baipan Bhari Deva — has also grossed ₹89.6 crore Added to that, many other recent Hindi releases like Satyaprem Ki Katha also came close to becoming superhits – signalling good times for movie makers, theatre owners and investors of PVR. The stock of PVR ran up by 22% in the last three months, and analysts expect better times ahead. “We continue to reiterate our positive stance on multiplexes over the medium/long-term. PVR INOX continues its focus on expanding F&amp;B offerings (especially for INOX chain) and recently introduced F&amp;B items starting at ₹99, gaining good traction. Ticket synergy benefits shall likely kick in from upcoming quarters while the F&amp;B synergy benefits are already as per plans,” said Nuvama. More movies, fewer OTTs The pipeline of big movies in the coming months is also full — with Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2, Hollywood movie, Grand Turismo, and Malayalam movie, King of Kotha, in August. In September, Shah Rukh Khan who is riding high on the success of Pathaan will release yet another movie Jawan. Conjuring universe movie ‘The Nun 2’ will also release next month along with yet another Prabhas starrer, Salaar Part 1. Added to that, the biggest competitor of theatres, the OTT, is slashing budgets, forcing couch surfers to step out. “Recent Hindi films are hinting towards a revival, and we expect international OTTs to cut India budget by 20–30% in FY24, both of which bode well for PVR INOX,” says Nuvama.

Gadar 2, Jailer, Oppenheimer & more resurrect the big screens as people throng to theatres again

New Delhi, August 16 may have been a working day, but Rajinikanth's '<keyword id="218107" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jailer" source="Orion">Jailer</keyword>' and Sunny Deol's '<keyword id="1847504" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gadar-2" source="Orion">Gadar 2</keyword>' not only did well, but also left the Akshay Kumar-starrer '<keyword id="452656" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OMG" source="Orion">OMG</keyword> 2' and Chiranjeevi's 'Bholaa Shankar' way behind. At the end of Day 6, 'Gadar 2' was sitting on a worldwide collection of Rs 338.50 crore (gross receipts across India, Rs 308.50 crore, which includes the 18 per cent GST component, plus Rs 30 crore overseas). Interestingly, Tara Singh's one-man war against Pakistan seems to have touched a chord in Chennai, for the southern metropolis saw a 73.75 per cent occupancy in theatres for 'Gadar 2'. Pakistan-bashing, clearly, works as much in the south as it does in the north, that too on a working Wednesday. 'Jailer', being a Tamil film, doesn't have as big a footprint as 'Gadar 2', yet with Thalaiva Rajinikanth headlining it, by its seventh day, it had amassed Rs 420 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 264.70 crore, plus Rs 155.30 crore overseas). Of course, the film's domestic collections have come mainly from the four southern states, led by Tamil Nadu (Rs 121.60 crore), followed by Andhra Pradesh / Telangana (Rs 53.50 crore), Karnataka (Rs 44.40 crore) and Kerala (Rs 35.90 crore). But Rajini's global fan following has ensured an overseas collection more than five times higher than that of 'Gadar 2', enabling it to be India's No. 1 movie today. 'OMG 2', in contrast, has just crossed the Rs 100-crore mark (Rs 108.80 crore, including all-India gross receipts of Rs 93.80 and an overseas collection of Rs 15 crore), even as 'Bholaa Shankar' is languishing at Rs 39 crore (all-India gross receipts, Rs 33.40 crore, plus Rs 5.60 crore earned overseas). 'Jailer' was massively hyped across South India, with offices in Tamil Nadu even giving a day off to their employees to watch the film on August 10 upon its release. Rajinikanth's persona in the movie is that of an old jailer hunting down a notorious gang lord and mercilessly eliminating his gang members. Regarding the magic of 'Jailer' at the box office, trade expert Ramesh Bala said: "Rajinikanth is a Superstar. The 'Superstar' tag alone is enough to garner it all the attention it needs. And then, he also benefits from worldwide recognition." Continuing his analysis, Bala said: "Apart from Rajinikanth, the movie has good content, it is different, and has other famous faces from the South, notably Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Ramya Krishnan. But when you mention Rajinikanth, words such as swag, cool, attitude come to mind, and his 50-year-plus career and humble nature also help." Bala expects the lifetime collection of 'Jailer' to touch Rs 600 crore, which means it will surpass last year's 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' and 'Vikram', and stand just behind Rajini's '2.0'. 'Gadar 2' is not expected to cross Rs 450-500 crore, but its makers, having produced the film reportedly for Rs 75 crore, are already laughing all the way to the bank.

The formula that Hollywood is using is clearly working - IP and franchise-led films are the order of the day as they are innovating. One just needs to look at Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible franchise and the Top Gun sequel had industry pundits billing him as the saviour of Hollywood. Bollywood is taking steps in the same direction and Taurani cites the examples of Rocky Aur Rani (original story), <keyword id="1847504" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="gadar-2" source="Orion">Gadar 2</keyword> (franchise), OMG 2 (franchise) and <keyword id="6363925" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jawan" source="Orion">Jawan</keyword> (original story). However, the key ingredient in all these movies is big star power. Like it or not, the ageing Khans, <keyword id="6354714" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ajay-devgn" source="Orion">Ajay Devgn</keyword> and <keyword id="2823" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="akshay-kumar" source="Orion">Akshay Kumar</keyword> are not going anywhere near the sunset. Another problem is also that the pandemic has possibly affected the pipeline of movies hitting theatres. Prior to the pandemic, Bollywood saw 18 releases (FY19) every quarter which is now down to 14 films (FY23). Adds Taurani, “These films doing well on a consistent basis will remain a key monitorable as they will command a large chunk of box office until we trend reverse into small and medium budget films or higher frequency therein.” While big may be beautiful, the risks are higher for these expensive films. Bollywood cannot afford to let them bomb, which also means that the films have to have good content not just star power. The jury will be out on listed multiplex stocks as the second quarter of the financial year, which started in July, will determine if the companies will see an earnings upgrade or not.

Analyst’s prescription for Bollywood: Focus on star power & content

With crackers and confetti, dancing and drumbeats, and whistles galore, Shah Rukh Khan's "<keyword id="6363925" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jawan" source="Orion">Jawan</keyword>" got off to an exuberant start on Thursday morning with audiences streaming into theatres across the country - all the way from Srinagar to Chennai. The pan-India thriller in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu is directed by South filmmaker Atlee and if scenes inside and outside theatres in cities such as Jaipur, Jammu, Mumbai and Kolkata are any indication, Shah Rukh's second film after "Pathaan" may have hit an early winning streak. Ahead of the film's release, #BoycottJawan trended on social media for a while with some users calling for the film's boycott because it is distributed by Red Giant Movies in Tamil Nadu. The company is owned by Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who has courted massive controversy for his comments against Sanatan Dharma. <keyword id="6359862" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="srk" source="Orion">SRK</keyword>'s fans on X hit out at the actor's detractors, saying the film will beat their negative campaign to become a blockbuster. The controversy, however, didn't appear to gather much momentum. Theatres in several cities went ahead with their plans for early morning shows to maximise on the excitement and Janmashtami, a holiday in many parts of the country. In Kolkata, for instance, the first show was at 5 am. And in Jaipur at 6 am. Outside south Kolkata's Asoka theatre, fans raised slogans in support of Shah Rukh and decorated the film's giant poster with garlands. They also struck SRK's famous open arm pose for the cameras. Some fans even brought posters of the actor and arranged marigold petals to form their message, "Love SRK". One fan performed a 'puja' at the theatre, putting a 'tilak' on the star's face on the poster. "This movie will perform even better than 'Pathaan'," said one fan. "I didn't sleep last night," added another. In Jaipur, some eager viewers turned up at a theatre in white T-shirts with the poster of "Jawan" printed on them. They played the song "Zinda Banda" on their speakers and danced to their hearts content. "It is a 'paisa vasool' movie. It is a total entertainer and has everything we want from a SRK movie -- drama, emotions and action." Another fan, Musharaf, said audiences will not feel that they have "wasted" their time on the film. In Srinagar, too, some eager morning viewers, dressed in "Jawan" T-shirts, spoke of their excitement. In Noida's Waves theatre, the audience erupted in whistles and cheers every time Shah Rukh made an appearance. The many pan-India scenes were a throwback to a pre-OTT era and evidence that mainstream cinema is alive and thriving with a string of successes, including "Pathaan" and "Gadar 2" and now perhaps "Jawan". In Mumbai, fans queued up in large numbers at the Gaiety Galaxy in Bandra and were seen frantically dancing to drum beats inside a theatre, recalling celebrations seen during festive season. Fans were also seen forming a human pyramid outside a theatre at a 6 am show. There were similar scenes inside a cinema hall in Chennai where fans broke into whistles as the film unspooled in front of them. At Bengaluru's Urvashi Cinema, a huge gathering was seen for the first show of the film. A young woman, who came to watch with her friend, told PTI, "We are very excited. We came here to dance on the movie. I'm a very big Shah Rukh Khan fan, I love him." And in Hyderabad, hundreds of SRK fans gathered at the Devi Theatre, placed large cutouts of the superstar, threw confetti and danced their hearts out before the first show early on Thursday. Many donned SRK's looks from the movie. At Liberty cinema in Delhi's Karol Bagh, some clicked selfies against the film's with its poster. The scene at the single theatre was akin to that of Holi celebrations with many fans donning white and playing with colours as they danced to the film's track outside the theatre. There were also many videos posted on X showing fans dancing near the giant screen when the song "Zinda Banda" came on. "Jawan" is described by makers as a high-octane thriller outlining "the emotional journey of a man who is set to rectify the wrongs in the society". It also stars <keyword id="6354625" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vijay-sethupathi" source="Orion">Vijay Sethupathi</keyword> and <keyword id="16829" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nayanthara" source="Orion">Nayanthara</keyword>. Trade predictions Trade experts are betting big on "Jawan" as they believe the movie will outperform "Pathaan", which had the reported earnings of Rs 1,050 crore. They pegged the opening day figure to be somewhere around Rs 65-70 crore. The film already got a thumbs up from fans as over 7.5 lakh tickets were booked in advance on online ticket booking platform BookMyShow by Tuesday evening. The movie is headed to beat the opening-day figure of Rs 57 crore notched up by 'Pathaan' and touch Rs 70 crore, according to the trade media. Across languages, 'Jawan' is likely to cross Rs 104 crore with Rs 20 crore from the Tamil markets and another Rs 14 crore from the Telugu-speaking universe. It will be interesting to see how much the film collects from the global Tamil audience, which has powered the huge success of Rajanikanth's 'Jailer'. The optimism of the trade media is hinged on the unprecedented advance bookings for 'Jawan'. According to BoxOfficeIndia.com, the figure for these bookings adds up to Rs 55 crore for the weekend, slightly more than what 'Pathaan' made, namely, Rs 54 crore. SRK, therefore, now holds the record of attracting two Rs 25 crore-plus advance bookings in one year. The movie, based on the mythological epic Ramayana, is expected to bring in opening day collections of ₹50-60 crore for the dubbed versions. The Hindi original is also expected to clock in ₹20 crore, predicts a research report by Elara Capital. As <a href="https://www.dnaindia.com/bollywood/report-adipurush-overseas-advance-booking-bulldozes-past-rs-6-crore-mark-prabhas-om-raut-kriti-sanon-saif-ali-khan-3047559">per media reports</a>, its advance bookings have been creating buzz, especially in overseas markets like Canada and Australia. If it’s able to manage a good opening, this big budget movie will be able to breach the ₹350- crore lifetime earnings mark – unlike Prabhas’ earlier movies Saaho and Radhe Shyam whose collections at ₹280 crore and ₹150 crore, respectively, were way below expectations “The film may surpass our estimates based on good content and word-of-mouth. Ticket prices are expected to be premium, around 20% higher than the average ticket prices on a pan-India level,” says Karan Taurani and Rounak Roy of Elara Capital. Adipurush will be released across India on June 16 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon, and is directed by Om Raut who had delivered the superhit movie, Tanaji. Small budget films not bringing in the moolah In spite of a few recent hits like Pathaan, The Kerala Story, Kantara and more, movie theatres have been struggling to bring back footfalls to match the pre-Covid levels. “Small and medium budget films continue to struggle as frequency of content becoming successful has dropped sharply in the North and South circuits,” the research report from Elara, which tracks PVR, says. Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan's latest release Zara Hatke Zara Bachke has minted ₹37.4 crore in its first week, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The movie, directed by Laxman Utekar, saw a decent opening, garnering ₹5.49 crore on the first day of its release. In spite of the positive surprise that the movie delivered, Elara believes that the momentum was driven by the Buy-One-Get-One-Free (BOGO) offer. It reduces distributor-producer share to approximately 30% from 50% earlier. “It makes film production economics unviable; while it is a good promotional activity to propel audiences back into the cinema halls to drive frequency, good and consistent content is the only big driver for improved occupancy levels,” say Taurani and Roy in their note. A slow start to FY24 The first quarter of FY24 has gotten off to a slow start in terms of box office, with no surprises except for The Kerala Story and Hollywood movie, Fast X. Hindi film box office collections for the first quarter are expected to be 20% lower than what they were pre-Covid. As compared to the same quarter last year, the drop is expected to be sharper at 30%, the research firm predicts. For context, the same time last year had hit movies like Rajamouli’s RRR, Karthik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Yash’s KGF 2. The second quarter of FY24 is expected to see many big movie releases like Karthik Aryan’s Satyaprem, Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. “Q2FY24 may be the best quarter even if half of these films report a healthy box office collection. Woes persist for exhibitors as Hindi content recovery is important to drive advertising growth, which remains under pressure,” the Elara report opines. The number of Hindi films lined up for release however remains lower than pre-Covid levels — by 30-35%.

While the merger was announced last March, the record date for the scheme of amalgamation between the two multiplex operators happened in February 2023. The combined entity will start trading with the name PVR-INOX on exchanges in March 2023 and their combined financials would be reported from 4QFY23. The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across 350 properties, in 110 cities. “PVR-INOX now controls 18% screen share (43% share in multiplex screens in India) and 30% box-office share (over 50% share of multiplex box office). The merged entity commands the highest multiplex market share in all key regions of India. PVR-INOX would become the fifth-largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count with the highest number of admissions per screen (around 127,000 admissions/screen in 2019),” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years. “Capex per year would be ₹8-8.5 billion (₹800-850 crore). Over 40% new screen openings will come from the South as it remains underpenetrated,” said the report. While merged entity gains the lion’s share, real issue still remains poor content While the merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, analysts believe the real issue still remains poor content leading to flop movies on screen. “The management has guided for annual synergy benefits of ₹2.25 billion (₹225 crore) at the EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) level in the next 12-24 months,” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. Analysts say that the merged entity has no real competitor and should remain focused on strengthening its position at the cost of single-screen theatres and smaller chains. Yet, there are challenges that all multiplexes will face bringing in the mega footfalls. For one, the Hindi cinema industry itself is facing the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/its-not-bollywood-films-its-the-superstars-that-people-seem-to-be-tired-of/articleshow/92382077.cms">shifting trend and migration of audiences to South movies</a> which captured audiences with larger-than-life characters. Rapid adoption of OTT, proliferation of social media and an active ‘Boycott Bollywood’ campaign and higher ticket prices have impacted footfalls in theatres, say analysts at Emkay Global. “While focus of the merged entity now shifts to realising synergies, the crucial issue of footfall recovery remains moot. Post-Covid, we have witnessed a clear dichotomy in box-office performance, with a high proportion of movies turning out to be duds; we believe the main culprit is the sub-par content quality, punctured by the weak critic and audience reviews,” said a report by Emkay Global. Not star power, alone It’s because of the increasing Southern push that <keyword id="4568700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PVR-INOX" source="Orion">PVR Inox</keyword> are planning to boost the addition of new cinemas there. “With Bollywood content not up to the mark, footfalls have not seen a meaningful uptick post Covid. Only select movies with differentiated offerings have managed to taste success at the box office. As we have emphasised in the past too, Bollywood’s recovery is critical to box-office collections, with regional and Hollywood contribution being only sporadic in nature,” said the report. Bollywood continues to witness poor movie performance with most movies including Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Goodbye and Uunchai, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus not meeting expectations except for Drishyam 2 and Pathaan. “Going ahead too, we believe that star power alone cannot drive collections, if there is no differentiating factor in the movie,” said the Emkay Global report. In Q3 FY23, only one Bollywood movie i.e Drishyam 2 managed to break the ₹100 crore box office barrier. “CY22 has been one of the worst years for Bollywood, with very few movies finding traction. A mere 7% of the major movies that were released in the CY21/22 managed to recover their investment and yielded some profit. Prior to Covid, this was close to 30%, with more than 40% of movies doing well in CY19,” said a report by Emkay. While Inox-PVR have a bigger screen presence, they need what it takes to bring in audiences — better movies, bigger hits from Bollywood and Hollywood alike – in addition to South superhits. PVR-INOX, now fifth largest listed multiplex chain globally, awaits good movies

All good things must come to an end and the same goes for Bollywood. After a magnificent spell of back-to-back blockbusters in the form 
of <keyword id="227940" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Express">Chennai Express</keyword>, <keyword id="500441" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krrish-3">Krrish 3</keyword> and <keyword id="1886157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Leela">Ram-Leela</keyword> (yes, this flick from <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sanjay-leela-bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword> is finally looking <keyword id="41744" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="UP">up</keyword> and nearing the Rs 100 crore mark but more on that later), two more movies hit the screens on Friday (November 22) – <keyword id="2165" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor">Kareena Kapoor</keyword> (<keyword id="2857" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bebo">Bebo</keyword>) and <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword>’s much-hyped <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword> <keyword id="1538595" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gori-Tere-Pyaar-Mein">Gori Tere Pyaar Mein</keyword> and <keyword id="9271" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Deol">Sunny Deol</keyword>’s rustic action flick <keyword id="1481019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Singh-Saab-The-Great">Singh Saab The Great</keyword>. But after our usual 4-day tally, the numbers are none too impressive. 
 
Let’s take a close look at Gori Tere first, directed by <keyword id="112568" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Punit-Malhotra">Punit Malhotra</keyword>. According to a trade website, the total collection after 4 days (Nov 22-25) stands at a paltry Rs 16.5 crore and certainly nowhere near the Big League. In his latest tweet, film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh says: #GTPM is better in UAE, below the mark in USA-Canada &amp; UK, poor in Australia and disaster in NZ. Overseas total: $ 980,000 [Rs 6.12 crore]. 
 
If the collection doesn’t pick up soon, Imran could be in trouble. Well, <keyword id="828519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Main-Aur-Ekk-Tu">Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu</keyword> (Shakun Batra’s directorial debut in 2012), his last movie opposite Bebo, did well at <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> and grossed a total of $8.1 million in India and abroad. But the year 2013 hasn’t been exactly great and both his films, <keyword id="814061" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Matru-Ki-Bijlee-Ka-Mandola">Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola</keyword> (a <keyword id="825824" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="political-satire">political satire</keyword>) and <keyword id="1717335" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Once-Upon-A-Time-In-Mumbai-Dobaara">Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara</keyword> (a <keyword id="1952408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gangster-flick">gangster flick</keyword>) failed to bomb the box office. In contrast, Bebo has done extremely well in Madhur Bhandarkar’s <keyword id="6439486" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="heroine">Heroine</keyword> and <keyword id="125922" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Reema-Kagti">Reema Kagti</keyword>’s suspense thriller <keyword id="1952412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash-The-Answer-Lies-Within">Talaash: The Answer Lies Within</keyword>. Starring <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor, <keyword id="861273" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash">Talaash</keyword> also entered the <keyword id="925977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rs-100-crore-club">Rs 100 crore club</keyword> and raked in a total of Rs 131.78 crore. 
 However, the <keyword id="1952416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lukewarm-response">lukewarm response</keyword> to Gori Tere could be due to the over-used theme. Although Imran sparkles in his romedy (romance-comedy) role as a rich architect and Bebo looks pretty stunning in her desi avatar while she pursues her fiery zeal for social work, the ‘bridging’ between the ‘unlikely’ partners is kind of predictable nowadays. And strangely enough, this flick reminds you of an earlier hit (<keyword id="14521" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jab-We-Met">Jab We Met</keyword>) where Bebo did it with equal spontaneity and spunk. Gori Tere is sweet and breezy, but the freshness of the <keyword id="1952417" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shahid-Kapoor-Bebo">Shahid Kapoor-Bebo</keyword> starrer is somewhat missing here and the sparks are not flying. In perspective, Adarsh has tweeted: #BusinessTalk: #RamLeela dominates, #GTPM dismal, #SSTG decent in mass circuits! 
 
And that brings us to the other movie of the week – Gadar director Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great. Sunny Deol-starrer Singh Saab has moved ahead of Gori Tere and grossed around Rs 21.5 crore after four days. The response has been good in North India, especially in Punjab and Delhi, and single screens have seen good turnouts except in the East and the South. 
 In this <keyword id="1952421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Action-drama">action drama</keyword>, Sunny plays a collector of a small city in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and values his honesty and integrity more than anything else. He fights corruption and injustice to usher in the change that real-life politicos never stop mentioning. Overall, it features a contemporary and relevant theme that can impact the audience. <keyword id="1855052" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="SSTG">SSTG</keyword> [limited screens] is best in USA-Canada, but ordinary elsewhere. Overseas total: approx $400,000 [Rs. 2.50 crore], tweeted Adarsh. 
 Meanwhile, Bhansali’s Ram-Leela is catching up after some initial hiccups. Last week, the Lucknow bench of the <keyword id="48834" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Allahabad-High-Court">Allahabad High Court</keyword> banned the screening of <keyword id="1942272" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goliyon-Ki-Raasleela-Ram-leela">Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela</keyword> in Uttar Pradesh. The court has, however, allowed the producer and director to run the film without using ‘Ram-Leela’ and ‘Raasleela’ in the title. In its ruling, the bench said, “We are only concerned with the use of word ‘Ram-Leela’ in the title of the film, which hurts the sentiments of billions of peoples not only in India but all over the world.” 
 
But in spite of the controversies, Ram-Leela continues to dominate and seems to have overtaken Krrish 3 in the global market. According to Adarsh, #Krrish3 affected by #RamLeela wave. Overseas total *after Weekend 4*: approx $8.5 million [Rs 53.07 crore]. Blockbuster! 
 
As of now (after the 26th day), Krrish 3 has grossed a total of Rs 263.20 crore. But the question is – can Ram-Leela overtake Krrish 3 and become the topmost earner? We need to wait and watch – picture abhi baki hai and the box office war is far from over.
