Here, it was all about super high monetary stakes, lightning-fast trade deals, and bucketloads of money shifting hands every single second. This wilderness lured millions of individuals with the promise of super duper high returns. But, at what cost? Welcome to the unforgiving, ultra-risky wild west of <keyword id="19991165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-equity-markets" source="keywords">Indian equity markets</keyword> called the <keyword id="145718" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Futures-and-Options" source="Orion">futures and options</keyword>. Here, everyone seems to just fly right through the bright red-flagged warnings of financial risks to earn even a fraction of these promised returns. Most burn themselves in the process, but carry on nevertheless, as if nothing ever happened. <h2>Chasing the cloudy profits</h2>The data conclusively proves that every 9 out of 10 individuals only lost their hard-earned money in this land. But hey, what do the numbers know? Some hide their losses out of shame, some out of fear. The proponents, meanwhile, proudly boast unusually high returns on their investments, some open social media channels while others encourage their friends and family to take the plunge. Naturally, news of this unstoppable and humongous en-masse migration to the F&amp;O (futures and options) town has reached sheriff <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SEBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SEBI">SEBI</keyword>, galvanising them into action. After all, it was time to put a leash on this madness and save the common man. The inhabitants of this town doubled in the last 2 years, from 51 lakh in FY22 to 96 lakh in FY24—99.8% of whom were small and mid-income traders. But profits? Well, that's a different, rather completely absent story. <h2>Que Sera Sera, much?</h2>A recent report by SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) that studied profits and losses made by traders in the equity derivatives segment between FY22-24 exposed the mad mania of futures and options trading in India, especially since the pandemic. Per the report, 91.1% of individual traders, or about 73 lakh traders had only lost money trading in futures and options in FY24. Between FY 22-24, over 1 crore traders, or about 92.8% of individual traders, had lost Rs 2 lakh each. But once bitten, twice shy? Well, not in this case. More than 75% of individuals, who had only made losses trading in F&amp;O in FY22 and FY23, continued to trade vigorously in FY24 as well, without any changes in the bottom line, which remained deep in red and negative. So, then all these traders must be uber-rich, with tons of cash and not much care to spare? Nope. 76% of traders in the F&amp;O space in FY24 had an annual income of less than Rs 5 lakh. 2 years ago, their share stood at 71%. And their choice of poison? Options! In FY24, 60% of traders made losses trading in futures, but a whopping 91.5% burnt their funds trading in options. Mind you, futures are riskier than options. With futures, which require significant capital investment, the buyer and seller both are contractually bound to adhere to the pre-determined strike price of the futures or options contract, irrespective of whether the prevailing prices are higher or lower (and thus, resulting in losses for either the buyer or seller). With options, since this adherence ain't necessary, individuals end up taking debt to take highly leveraged positions while trading here. <h2>Scale of the explosion</h2>Anyone who trades even infrequently will tell you that a demat account is the mitochondria or powerhouse of the trading cell. As of August 2024, India had over 17.1 crore <keyword id="20957284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="demat-accounts" source="keywords">demat accounts</keyword>, which are a prerequisite for trading in the markets. India is the 9th biggest country in the world, in terms of total demat accounts. Did you know that our demat accounts are at par with the entire population of Bangladesh? Talk about scale! Just 4 years ago, in March 2020, this number was a mere 4 crore. Naturally, the total F&amp;O turnover on both <keyword id="20004725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NSE" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NSE">NSE</keyword> and BSE has hit the roof, and also broken it. As of October 4, 2024, the total futures and options turnover on NSE stood at a massive Rs 4,78,27,27,750.30 crore. As of September 2024, India's STT mop-up had gone past Rs 26,000 crore. Traders have to pay STT whenever they buy or sell any security in the market. So, more trading brings in more STT, and hence, more revenue for the government, so they're not really complaining. After all, this is certainly what they'd call enviable growth. As of August 2023, our STT collection stood at about Rs 21,599 crores. And in FY20-21, India's STT collection had been Rs 16,000 crore. If only our salaries also managed to grow at this rate! <h2>So, what's happening?</h2>Two things. One, it's the big bulls who are raking in all the moolah. And it's the younger lot (those aged under 30) who are propping them up for this. In FY24, 43% of individual traders in the market were less than 30 years of age. In just one year, this number has swelled by 12 percentage points from just 31% of individual traders. But who says ageing is bad? Wrinkles and silver hair seemingly have a propensity of incurring lesser losses in the market. In FY24, only 79% of traders aged above 60 years made losses, as compared to 93% of those aged below 30. Small and mid-income traders, which make up 98% of the total trader base, witnessed average losses per person of Rs 65,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh in FY24 in futures and options, respectively. The winner here? Clearly, the big bulls, who declared an annual income of over Rs 1 crore, ended up with average profits of Rs 96,000 per person this year. <h2>What’s the sheriff up to?</h2>The government has finally swung into action, hiking the STT rate for F&amp;O during this year’s budget. Effective October 1, 2024, the STT on futures stands at 0.02%, up from 0.0125%. For options, it was upped to 0.1% versus 0.0625% previously. Small margins, but huge impact oncoming. Says Puneet Sharma- CEO and Fund Manager at Whitespace Alpha, “SEBI aims to enhance market stability while safeguarding investor interests, reflecting the regulator's intent to balance risk management with market participation”. But this might come with its own share of challenges, too. “Stricter norms around leverage, transparency, and capital adequacy could limit the ability of investors to determine their own risk appetite, thereby stifling innovation in trading strategies. Over-regulation in an environment that thrives on strategic flexibility and creativity could dampen the market’s dynamism, affecting India's competitiveness in the global derivatives landscape”, he observes. SEBI recently came out with a set of guidelines that aim to thwart <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>' participation in futures and options and hinder them from taking undue risks. Here's a quick recap of what's to come for the residents of the F&amp;O town Margin Requirements: To battle the high volatility and chaos which is generally seen on expiry days(i.e the last mandated date, post which an option becomes invalid), SEBI will put in place an extreme loss margin (ELM) of 2% for all open short options on the day of expiry. Translation? Traders will need to pony up more cash upfront, leaving them with fewer funds to take on risky bets. It ain't a choice: No more of one expiry every single day! Going ahead, an exchange like BSE or NSE will just be able to offer weekly expiries, that too, only on one benchmark index, as opposed to an entire buffet it currently offers. At present, NSE offers weekly options contracts for its financial index, bank and midcap indices. But say goodbye to this, and hello to derivatives on only 1 index per exchange. Raising the bar: Effective November 30, 2024, the minimum contract value for index derivatives will be upped to Rs 15 lakh, from the present Rs 5-10 lakh. The hope is that by making it ultra-expensive to enter these trades, investors will be dissuaded from taking on risky trades. Pay upfront: Starting February 2025, those trading in options will have to pay the entire options premium upfront, even before their trades are executed. This is because options generally carry very high leverage, and paying a significant sum upfront can force traders to think twice. Invigilation Pro Max: Starting April 1 2025, to make sure that the number of positions for equity index derivatives does not slyly slip over the mandated limit, especially on expiry days when trade volumes are huge, the exchanges will have to take a minimum of 4 position snapshots randomly. The question is, will these injections of sobriety be enough to calm down the steroid-fed bull of the futures and options market in India? Well, only time and market turnover will tell! It closed 0.12% down at 24,479.05 points, while Sensex also closed in red, down by 0.09% at 80,429.04 points. All broad market indices ended the day in red, with India VIX down by as much as 17%. As for sectoral indices, financial services was down by 1.37%, while FMCG (up by 2.68%), <keyword id="19936673" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Media" source="keywords">media</keyword> (up by 1.16%) and consumer durables (up by 2.11%) closed the day in green. <keyword id="20304716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Realty" source="keywords">Realty</keyword> took a significant hit during the day and closed 2.29% down, on the back of long-term indexation benefits stripped off assets like real estate and gold. Oil and gas was down by 1.20%, while PSU banks were down by 1.4%. Titan (up by 6.56%), ITC (up by 6.52%), Tata Consumers (up by 4.42%) NTPC (up by 2.78%) and Adani Ports (up by 2.77%) were amongst the top gainers during the day. On the other hand, Larsen and Toubro (down by 3%), Hindalco (down by 2.97%), Shri Ram Finance (down by 2.79%), Bajaj Finance (down by 2.27%) and ONGC (down by 1.84%) were amongst the leading laggards. Out of the 2,779 stocks traded during the day, 1,177 saw advances while 1,515 saw declines. Another 87 remained unchanged. 85 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 41 stocks hit their 52-week low as well. 103 stocks hit the upper circuit during trading today, and 150 stocks hit the lower circuit during trading today. Mr. Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares noted that market participants remained cautious with a positive bias ahead of the <keyword id="19908389" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget" source="keywords">Union Budget</keyword>. "As the budget speech was in progress; a steep fall was seen across the board followed by V-shaped recovery. With a marginal loss of 30.20 points, <keyword id="19925635" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty50" source="keywords">Nifty50</keyword> settled the trade at 24,479.05. The <keyword id="20421583" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG-segment" source="keywords">FMCG segment</keyword> was the top performer of the day by advancing over 2.60% followed by Media and IT while Realty and <keyword id="20830386" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PSU-Banking" source="keywords">PSU Banking</keyword> were the major laggards. Mid and small caps also recovered from the lower levels but not sufficiently to outshine the index. By forming a small red candle with a big lower shadow, the Index has tested and defended its strong support of 24,200. We believe that as long as the Index holds 24,200, the uptrend will remain intact. On the higher side, 24,800 will continue to act as a strong hurdle", he continued. FM Nirmala Sitharaman increased the STT (securities transaction tax) on future and options trading, making them more expensive. The standard deduction limit for new tax regime was increased from the earlier Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000. Annual exemption limit for long-term capital gains tax was also increased from the previous Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 1,25,000.

"Given the breadth and depth of bilateral ties and immense potential, they decided to elevate the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prime Minister highlighted that Singapore, with an investment of around USD 160 billion in the Indian economy, is a leading economic partner for India. The two leaders also reviewed existing cooperation in the fields of defence and security, maritime domain awareness, education, AI, Fintech, new technology domains, science and technology, and knowledge partnership. PM Modi and PM Wong also discussed the outcome of the 2nd India - Singapore Ministerial Roundtable held in Singapore in August 2024. "Noting that the Ministerial Roundtable is a unique mechanism, the leaders appreciated the work done by senior ministers from both sides in deliberating and identifying a new agenda for bilateral cooperation. The leaders called for accelerated action under the pillars of cooperation identified during the Ministerial Roundtables - Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Healthcare &amp; Medicine, Skills Development and Sustainability," the release stated. The leaders underscored that the cooperation under these pillars, particularly in the areas of semiconductors and critical and emerging technologies, opens a new chapter in bilateral relations, making our ties future-orientated. The discussion also covered celebration of 60th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2025. Highlighting that cultural connect between the two countries is an important component of these ties, Prime Minister announced that India's first Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre would be opened in Singapore, the release added. The leaders also exchanged views on important regional and global issues of mutual interest, including India - ASEAN relations and India's vision for the Indo-Pacific Terming Singapore an "important anchor" of India's Act East Policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the elevation of ties. Singapore was the first country with which we launched the Person to Person payment facility of UPI," PM Modi said. "In the last ten years, 17 satellites of Singapore have been launched from India. Our cooperation has gained momentum from skilling to defence sector. The agreement between Singapore Airlines and Air India has strengthened connectivity. I am happy that today we are together giving our relations the shape of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," he added.. Recalling age-old ties between the two nations, PM Modi thanked Singapore for the respectful treatment of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose. He added that the bilateral ties will complete 60 years in 2025. "The 3.5 lakh people of Indian origin living in Singapore are the strong foundation of our relations. He also announced that India's first Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre will be opened in Singapore soon, while appreciating the teachings of Saint Thiruvalluvar. "I am very happy to inform you that India's first Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre will soon be opened in Singapore. The great saint Thiruvalluvar has given guiding thoughts to the world in the most ancient language, Tamil. His composition Tirukkural was written almost 2 thousand years ago, but the ideas given in it are still relevant today. He has said, 'Nayanodu nnnri purinnd payanudaiyar panbu parattum ulagu', that is 'The world praises those who are known for justice and service to others'. I believe that millions of Indians living in Singapore are also inspired by these ideas and are contributing to strengthening the relationship between the two countries," he further stated. India and Singapore elevate relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; Agree to expand trade, investment

Food and grocery delivery behemoth <keyword id="6358977" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy" source="Orion">Swiggy</keyword> is on a roll, pushing out multiple new services simultaneously, ahead of the festive season, and its much-touted Rs 11,664 crore IPO. Experts anticipate the IPO to hit the bourses in the upcoming months. Earlier last week, the company's shareholders had approved of raising the fresh issue component of the IPO, from Rs 3,750 crore previously to Rs 5,000 crore. This will allow Swiggy to add an extra Rs 1,250 crores to its coffers for future growth. The remaining Rs 6,664 crore will be an OFS (offer for sale), largely paving a way for Swiggy's old investors to exit. In the buildup to its IPO, the delivery giant is dialing up the competitive fever big time with rival <keyword id="19901323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato">Zomato</keyword>, which went public in 2021. Swiggy recently launched <keyword id="23440051" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="XL-Fleet" source="keywords">XL Fleet</keyword> for large-scale <keyword id="20299302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-delivery" source="keywords">food delivery</keyword> and Bolt, which is an <keyword id="23461052" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AI-powered-logistics" source="keywords">AI-powered logistics</keyword> system. Per some media reports, the company is also launching an invite-only concierge membership program called the "Rare Club", which will have an annual fee of up to Rs 50,000. <h2>Who doesn't love a little pettiness? </h2>But that's not it. In the time being, Swiggy is also aggressively looking for ways to gain maximum public attention, one of which is by sponsoring the fourth season of the popular entrepreneurial reality show <keyword id="11924074" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank-india" source="Orion">Shark Tank India</keyword>. But here's the catch-a key condition of this deal is to not bring back Zomato CEO <keyword id="19901325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="deepinder-goyal" source="keywords">Deepinder Goyal</keyword> as a shark. Media reports suggest that Swiggy is set to close on a massive Rs 40-60 crore sponsorship deal with the show. But in a seemingly low-ball move, Swiggy has blocked the return of Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal as one of the investors on the show. Goyal had made his debut on the third season of the show, and was looking to make a comeback alongside long-time regulars such as Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta, Namita Thapar and Peyush Bansal. <h2>Bolting ahead with XL</h2>In a move that clearly underlines its ambitious expansion plans, Swiggy also recently announced the launch of its new XL Fleet service, which will look to cater exclusively to bulk orders and large-scale food deliveries. Per Swiggy's co-founder Nandan Reddy, XL is a natural evolution of Swiggy's services. As it is, a recent report by Bain and Company highlighted that India's food services market is set to double to a massive Rs 9 trillion by 2030, surging up significantly from its current standing of Rs 5.5 trillion. Not just that, the customer base is also set to expand from 320-340 million as of 2023 to 430-450 million by the end of the decade. Earlier this year, Zomato had also stepped in this segment by launching its large-order electric fleet, which could serve orders for a gathering of up to 50 people. With this feature, Swiggy claims that users can get certain meals such as burgers, <h2>Challenges Await </h2>As of FY24, Swiggy's operating revenue stood at ₹112.5 billion, a 36% jump from the previous year. The company also managed to reduce its net losses by as much as 44% to ₹23.5 billion. While these may come across as positive signs, which are also pushing the company's unlisted shares to new heights, Swiggy significantly lags behind Zomato in both food delivery and quick commerce segment. Consider this. Per Morgan Stanely, as of FY24, Swiggy's GOV (gross order value) at Rs 24,700 crore, was far lower than Zomato's Rs 32,200 crore. Swiggy's GOV and AOV grew at a CAGR of 15.5% and 2.5% respectively, between FY22-24. In contrast, Zomato's GOV and AOV registered a CAGR of 23% and 3.7%, respectively. At 12.7 million, Swiggy's MTU (monthly transacting users) for FY24 were also a far cry behind Zomato's 18.4 million. Even when it comes to average order value (AOV), Swiggy's Instamart lags behind Zomato's Blinkit. This is also why analysts believe that despite Swiggy narrowing the gap on most key metrics like AOV, GOV and more, the company's share will command a lower valuation than that of its rival Zomato.

<ul><li>SEBI has revealed a report on the profit and losses suffered by retail traders in the <keyword id="21711508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-derivatives" source="keywords">equity derivatives</keyword> segment.</li><li>As per the report, 93% of investors lost their money in the derivatives segment.</li><li>The report also adds that only 1% of <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword> managed to make a profit of ₹1 lakh and above annually.</li></ul> A report by the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on the profit and losses in the equity derivatives segment has revealed how badly retail investors are performing in the futures and options (F&amp;O) market. There has been an increase in participation in the F&amp;O market by retail investors. With the increased volumes, the government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) have been taking steps to keep this under check. “With the increased participation of individual investors in equity and equity derivatives markets, the current study was undertaken to analyse profit and loss patterns for individual traders in F&amp;O during the three years FY22 to FY24, and for all the categories,” said SEBI in its report. This is not the first time SEBI has published such a report. In an earlier report, the watchdog revealed that nearly 90% of retail traders lost money in the equity derivatives segment in FY22. <h2>What are futures and options (F&amp;O)?</h2>Futures and Options (F&amp;O) are financial derivatives used in trading and investing, primarily in stock markets, commodities, and other assets. They allow investors to speculate on the future price movements of underlying stocks or hedge risks. <h2>Retailers lost over ₹1.8 lakh crore in three years</h2>As per the report, retail investors lost a staggering ₹1.8 lakh crore in aggregate losses over the last three fiscal years. Out of the 1 crore investors engaged in the F&amp;O market, 93% of investors or 9 out of 10 investors had an average loss of ₹2 lakh each. The retail investors lost ₹61,000 crore in FY24. As per the report, only 7.2% of retail F&amp;O traders managed to make a profit over the last three years. Among these loss-making investors, around 4 lakh investors suffered an average loss of ₹28 lakh each including transaction costs. What’s more shocking is that only 1% of the investors managed to make a profit exceeding ₹1 lakh after deducting the transaction costs, making one wonder what’s the allure of <keyword id="20852321" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FO-trading" source="keywords">F&amp;O trading</keyword>. Not only are retailers not making any money, but they also spend ₹26,000 per person on average on transaction costs. <h2>It’s not the rich that are losing money</h2>The report further states that 76% of the traders who suffered losses have reported an income of under ₹5 lakh. Nearly half of the traders are under 30 years old, meaning at the start of their careers. Further, over 72% of traders come from small towns. <h2>Addiction? Retailers continue despite losses</h2>Whether it is an addiction or the hope of recovering money, over 75% of loss-making retail investors continued to trade in the derivatives segment despite being in a loss for two years. <h2>Social media influencers to be blamed?</h2>Several social media financial influencers or “finfluencers” have been pushing F&amp;O trading as a get-rich-quick scheme. These financial influencers often use fake trading proofs to exaggerate their returns and push retail investors to enter the derivatives market. The people then push their “courses” or services offering recommendations to users. They charge for this service and users often end up spending money on this after being blinded by the fake proofs. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="112926834" title="SEBI brings in new norms to regulate finfluencers" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> The number of retail traders in the F&amp;O market has seen a massive increase, with traders increasing from around 50 lakh in FY22 to nearly 1 crore in FY24. SEBI recently<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/sebi-brings-in-new-norms-to-regulate-finfluencers/articleshow/112926834.cms"> introduced</a> new norms to regulate unregistered financial influencers in the country. In three separate notifications, the stock market watchdog has brought in new norms amid growing concerns about the potential risk associated with such finfluencers. While these regulations are a start, there is a need for greater control over these “paid groups” that sell recommendations and the usage of fraudulent income proofs. <h2>Big traders bet on algos</h2>Coming to the large proprietary traders and foreign funds, these made a profit of ₹33,000 crore and ₹28,000 crore respectively in FY24. Out of this, 96% of profitable proprietary traders and 97% of foreign funds used trading algorithms. These programs, along with increased domestic manufacturing, employment generation, and a well-capitalized banking sector, have created a supportive environment for business expansion. Other contributing factors include low corporate leverage ratios and improved access to capital, which have enhanced the investment capacity of Indian companies. India's talent pool, with approximately 2.5 million STEM graduates and a thriving start-up ecosystem featuring over 100 unicorns, has also been a major driver of growth. With over 38 sector skill councils, the government's focus on bridging the skill gap is preparing domestic firms for future demands, further bolstering the office leasing sector. Flexible space operators, technology, and BFSI sectors have emerged as the primary drivers of office leasing, collectively accounting for two-thirds of all domestic activity. The RCA sector, which includes legal, taxation, HR, and media services, is also playing a significant role in boosting domestic leasing. Additionally, Indian engineering and manufacturing firms, which currently represent 7-8 per cent of domestic office leasing, are expected to expand into <keyword id="20270212" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tier-ii" source="keywords">Tier-II</keyword> and Tier-III cities, which are emerging as manufacturing hubs. He added, "India's top nine cities are poised to see an impressive addition of ~185 million sq. ft. of premium office space by 2026. This dramatic increase in office space is a testament to several key factors driving the transformation of the commercial real estate landscape". Ram Chandnani, Managing Director, Advisory and Transaction Services, CBRE India, said, "Advances in technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), are poised to further transform the office sector. While AI may cause job displacement in some areas, it will also create new opportunities and necessitate comprehensive workforce reskilling. The surge in workforce needs, driven by digitalization, evolving workplace strategies, and enhanced business confidence, has substantially boosted leasing activity."

Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business <keyword id="20372974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TM-Roh" source="keywords">TM Roh</keyword> was speaking at a media roundtable here on the sidelines of Samsung Unpacked 2024. "The Indian market is very important to Samsung. We have operated the manufacturing facility since 1996, and we also have R&amp;D centres in India. Noida and Bengaluru R&amp;D centres have become one of the biggest R&amp;D centres of Samsung and MX business. "They are busy developing flagship products as well as contributing to the development of <keyword id="22430809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Galaxy-AI-technologies" source="keywords">Galaxy AI technologies</keyword>," Roh said, adding that these collaborations and efforts will continue in the future. In January this year, Roh termed India as one of Samsung's important manufacturing bases and said that the Korean electronics major will start manufacturing laptops this year at its Noida facility. "We are also working closely with component partners in the Indian market to strengthen infrastructure and supply chain. We have done so, and we will continue to do so going forward," Roh said. At Samsung Unpacked 2024, the tech giant expanded its wearables portfolio with the launch of Galaxy Ring, a health and wellness wearable device powered by Galaxy AI. It also unveiled its sixth generation foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, along with Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro. Both Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are manufactured at the Noida facility. "The Indian market is one of the markets where the foldable range is growing exponentially, and at the centre lies Galaxy foldables. "Particularly, making health AI possible on our new products like watches and foldables, the contribution and efforts of Indian R&amp;D centres were immense," Roh said. He further said that the company expects the market demand to grow this year and has high expectations around Indian customers and consumers adopting the new foldable range with the incorporation of optimised Galaxy AI. "We will come closer to the consumers through diverse initiatives like first-hand experience programmes, game-related promotional activities, and Olympic sponsorship-related activities as well," he said. On the monetisation of AI services, Roh said mobile AI technologies and their usage patterns are progressing at such a speed that it would be too premature to comment on how it could be monetised. "I believe monetisation-related decisions should be and will be made based on a comprehensive review of the customer voice and customer needs, market demands, market needs, and technological trends and changes," he said. The BSE Sensex climbed 214.40 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 79,457.58 in the opening trade, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened up 41.40 points, or 0.17 per cent, at 24,085.90. The wider indices began trading in a mixed bag. The Bank Nifty index opens at 52,874.95, up barely 63.65 points, or 0.12 per cent, from its opening position. "Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are poised to open higher on Friday driven by positive global market cues. The Gift Nifty is indicating an initial premium, trading at approximately 24,200, up by about 105 points from the previous close of Nifty futures," said Varun Aggarwal, MD, Profit Idea. Among the sectoral indices on NSE, Nifty Bank, Financial services, FMCG, IT, Media, Metal, Pharma, Realty, Healthcare, Oil and gas, and consumer durables started in the green territory. According to provisional data available on the NSE, on June 27, 2024, domestic institutional investors (DII) sold shares worth Rs 3.605.93 crore, while foreign institutional investors (FII) purchased shares worth Rs 7,658.77 crore. In Thursday's trading session, both indices achieved new closing highs, with the Sensex climbing 568.93 points to 79,243.18, a gain of 0.72 per cent. Similarly, the Nifty 50 surged 175.70 points to settle at 24,044.50, marking a 0.74 per cent increase. Notably, Nifty 50 displayed a bullish pattern with four consecutive sessions of long bull candles, including a 'three advancing soldiers' pattern earlier in the week, indicating robust upward momentum. "The market sentiment remains positive, bolstered by the impending inclusion of India in the J.P. Morgan GBI-EM Global Series of indices starting June 28. This move is expected to attract substantial foreign inflows estimated between USD 25-30 billion over the next 10 months, gradually increasing India's weightage in the index," Aggarwal added. Internationally, WTI crude prices are trading at USD 82.00, reflecting a modest increase of 0.23%, while Brent crude prices are marginally down at USD 85.45, a decrease of 1.03 per cent. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar against a basket of foreign currencies, is slightly lower at 105.89, down by 0.15%. In the US, market indices closed mixed on Thursday amid cautious trading ahead of fresh inflation data. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.30%, closing at 17,858.68, while the S&amp;P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average posted modest gains of 0.09% each, closing at 5,482.87 and 39,164.06, respectively. Overall, the Indian markets are positioned optimistically for the near term, contingent upon sustained global economic conditions and investor sentiment.
