Citing third-party data, the survey said that the e-commerce industry in India is expected to cross USD 350 billion by 2030 and called for the need to educate users on the safe use of e-commerce platforms. "The rise of e-commerce is constrained by inadequate skills required for online selling, such as cataloguing. <keyword id="22505774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-privacy-issues" source="keywords">Data privacy issues</keyword> and increasing online fraud have turned out to be the most significant hurdle in the growth of e-commerce in India. It becomes imperative to educate users on the safe use of e-commerce platforms," the survey said. The survey mentioned that India's e-commerce market has gained significant momentum during the past few years, owing to technological advancements, evolving new-age business models coupled with government initiatives like the Digital India program, UPI, One District - One Product (ODOP), Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), new foreign trade policy, easing of FDI limits and Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) (Amendment) Rules 2021. On inflation, he said it is projected to average 4.5 per cent in 2024-25 and 4.1 per cent in 2025-26. Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation fell below target during July-August but rose to 5.5 per cent in September on the back of a pickup in price momentum in some food items and adverse base effects inherent in year-on-year measurement. "Our projection indicates that these price pressures will persist in October and November before headline inflation realigns with the target from December 2024 and remains aligned in 2025-26," the deputy governor said. The president-elect is already surrounded by such figures, Mena said, such as Elon Musk, JD Vance, Robert F. It's removal would free institutional investors to further adopt digital assets.Mena also cited anticipation around FIT21, an act aiming to clarify the regulatory roles around digital assets. Consumer protections would also strengthen under this bill, he said.Meanwhile, Trump's administration could accelerate progress on three meaningful pieces of stablecoin legislation, which aim to set up guardrails around future stablecoin issuance. These dollar-pegged crypto assets are increasingly used for purposes similar to traditional finance, Standard Chartered said in a note on Friday.<h2 id="eae31105-86db-4e91-9d15-cfc75e92738f">A bitcoin reserve?</h2>Since Trump's victory, speculation has jumped that a strategic bitcoin reserve could be in on the way. Though the President-elect has not specifically voiced such a plan, the idea that his administration would buy bitcoin as a reserve asset has created enthusiasm among crypto bulls."We're already seeing that that [crypto's] gaining trust, and it's gaining trust within institutions and countries. More and more countries are adopting it. So I don't think it's a matter of years. I think it's a matter of months," Kravchunovsky said.Mena sees the price of bitcoin soaring to $1 million "almost overnight," if a strategic reserve were to be established. The scenario would prompt other nations to build up their own reserves, pushing bitcoin's total market cap 13 times higher. Meanwhile, Standard Chartered head of FX research Geoff Kendrick considers a bitcoin reserve fund as a high-impact development with a low probability of happening for now. Investors should instead pay attention to Trump's separate promise to cease all sales of government bitcoin. If this happens, that could mean a sizeable upswing in the price of the token, he wrote.<h2 id="6a25764b-b3fc-4a7c-a689-ece320390cd4">Crypto's time to shine</h2>In whatever way the industry changes under Trump, one thing feels certain: the election has cemented the crypto markets place in the mainstream."Crypto is now essentially legal in the U.S., marking a major turning point for the industry," Mena wrote.According to Kendrick, crypto-friendly adjustments have the potential to drive the total market value of the cryptocurrency market to $10 trillion by the end of 2026, a major jump from the current $2.5 trillion level.He reiterated his expectation that bitcoin will hit $200,000 by the next year's end.

If you look at the current state, I think we are still adopters of somebody else's technology paradigms, especially in the digital world," Aggarwal said, explaining why the Ola group had set up AI start-up Krutrim last year. One of the things in Krutrim is to build AI models on Indian data, which is more attuned to Indian use cases, Indian paradigms, he said, adding, "We are making our own AI, on our own cloud, on our own chip." Despite India producing 20 per cent of the world's digital data at present, he lamented that the country does not fully own the data, as 80 per cent are stored outside, which are then processed into AI and "brought back into India and sold to us in dollars". When asked about concerns over AI leading to job losses, he allayed the apprehension saying that the IT boom created jobs in India when people feared that computers would take away jobs, and AI is a similar tool. "AI is not going to replace anyone. Maybe that future is a few decades away... We don't need to get anxious about that future right now. We need to, as a country, see that AI is going to amplify productivity. If we don't get onto the bandwagon, we will be left behind...," he asserted. In his view, Aggarwal said the way forward is for India to become experts in future technology. "Future technologies bring with it jobs of the future, supply chain of the future. And if we are global leaders, we are the fastest adoptive market of future technologies (then) jobs of the future will be built in India, supply chains of the future will be built in India. This is the only way... If we focus on protecting the past, you remain uncompetitive," he added. Sharing his take on employment generation in India, Aggarwal said, "I actually believe the private sector has to do the bulk of the job creation. The government's job is to create the enabling environment, create the fundamentals, help correct imbalances wherever they are, be it trade imbalances, etc and incentivise wherever it needs to be incentivised, like the PLI schemes." The government's steps such as the employment-linked incentives will also encourage private industry, he said, adding "But fundamentally the private sector has to step up and do more". Asked if the government is doing enough to create that ecosystem for the private sector, Aggarwal said, "I'm not in the government, so I want to put the limelight on ourselves. Is the private sector doing enough? I think we all can do more, and I'm on the same page. We all need to do more." In response to a query on his views over the government in extending the fiscal concession that companies like Tesla have been demanding from India, he said, "It is very important for India to attract all kinds of investment, especially (from) world leading companies. "Tesla is a best in class company. The more companies like these invest into India, the better it is for India, in a broad sense as well for the industry." He further said, "The (EV) ecosystem, including my company, will benefit from it, because it will raise the bar on expertise, on excellence, on talent, everything..." About the newly-listed entity Ola Electric, he said, "Our mission at Ola electric is to really make India a global EV hub." The company will build products such as electric two and three-wheelers that Indians need for the country to be able to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself, different from the current global solution for sustainability that is focussed on electric luxury cars, Aggarwal added. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Gen Zers lost more money to online scams than baby boomers last year, according to a survey.</li><li>But they may still feel immune to romance scams.</li></ul>Gen Zers may think they are digitally savvy and immune to online scams, but that very thought may leave them vulnerable to being lured into <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/scammed-out-of-family-savings-in-three-months-painful-2024-8">nefarious schemes</a>."Many Gen Zers are confident in their ability to spot scams, but scammers are evolving just as quickly," Bryn Thompson, the marketing director of Phonely, a scam-protection telephone service provider, told Business Insider."With romance scams in particular, scammers exploit emotional connections and rapidly build trust, which can lead to financial exploitation before the victim even realizes what's happening."It's long been a cliché that those who get wrapped up in romance scams are older because they have a smaller social circle, are divorced or separated, and are simply more lonely.But many Gen Zers went to college or started their careers during the COVID pandemic, meaning several of their formative years were interrupted, leaving them longing for connections too.Catfishing is rife on dating apps, as are the filters and subtle image and video enhancers that have become so ingrained in social media posts that they are almost undetectable. All of which forms a gray area where scammers can thrive.<h2 id="ddd9e651-9ca9-400e-928f-a154f7fee890">Trust in the internet</h2>A Better Business Bureau survey of 1,027 respondents in the US and Canada, released in April, found that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-loses-more-money-to-online-scams-than-boomers-2024-8">Gen Zers lose more money to internet scams</a> than baby boomers in 2023.The Annual Cybersecurity Attitudes and Behaviors Report, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://20740408.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/20740408/CYBSAFE-Oh%20behave%20report%202022-220927%20MS%20-%20V1.pdf">released by the National Cybersecurity Alliance in 2022</a>, surveyed over 3,000 people from the US, UK, and Canada and found that Gen Zers noted a higher rate of falling for romance scams (15%) than Gen Xers (8%) and baby boomers (4%).Scams are always evolving, and the tricks Gen Zers believe they are wise to may be replaced by increasingly technologically advanced schemes they don't see coming.Lauren Hendry Parsons, the head of communications at ExpressVPN, told BI that Gen Zers are more acquainted with meeting people online and having entire relationships through social media."Your willingness to talk to someone you don't know online goes exponentially up depending on how young you are," Hendry Parsons said. "Which opens that extra channel for potential exposure."<h2 id="be523e56-6dc4-4327-9abd-28a955ee181c">Overconfident about AI</h2>According to Kevin Lee, the trust and safety architect at the fraud prevention platform Sift, the assumption that Gen Zers are too savvy to fall for a romance scam may leave them vulnerable.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://sift.com/index-reports-ai-fraud-q2-2024?aliId=">A Sift survey</a> of 1,066 US adults earlier this year found that 81% of Gen Z believe they can spot AI-generated fraud, though they were successfully phished this way at a higher rate (31%) than Gen Xers (18%), millennials (25%), and baby boomers (11%).<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/romance-scams-ai-deepfakes-yahoo-boys-nigeria-fraud-2024-4">Deepfakes and other AI tools</a> are developing all the time, Lee said, with scammers now able to create entirely fake identities on dating profiles, images, and videos."This technology allows criminals to seem real during phone calls or text messages," he said. "Making it challenging to distinguish between real and fake interactions."Hendry Parsons said the ubiquitousness of tools like Facetune and Photoshop is making it challenging for people to determine whether someone is really who they say they are.An <a target="_blank" class="" href=" https://www.expressvpn.com/blog/dark-side-of-online-dating-uk/">ExpressVPN survey</a> of 2,000 UK adults aged 18-50 last year found that 34% of respondents had created a fake dating profile, and 27% used AI to improve the look of their photos."It's not just scammers using these things; it's not just people with nefarious purposes, but it could be," Hendry Parsons said. "Which is fundamentally that gray space where scammers proliferate and succeed in encouraging people to hand over their data or hand over money."Those aged 18 to 24 were also more likely than average to have been catfished out of any age group, with 34% believing they had been the victim of it, according to the ExpressVPN survey.<h2 id="b9ca31d9-b1fb-4bc4-8c41-58a34e399da0">Increased isolation</h2>The COVID-19 pandemic isolated people and may have left many young people with their guards down.Perpetua Neo, a psychologist and leadership coach with expertise in toxic relationships, told BI that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktokers-are-documenting-the-epidemic-of-loneliness-2023-4">if you are lonely</a>, "then the way your brain sees the world is very different.""When you are in a state of anguish or anxiety, then you're likely to latch onto somebody else without really thinking too much because it's like any port in the storm," she said.Many zoomers missed out on several years of dating during global lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and scammers can exploit that desire for connection."The regular journey an adolescent is meant to take was disrupted," Neo said. "At the same time, it was a pandemic where we were electronically connected — which can give the impression that we have social rituals and bonds, but which may be superficial."People are still processing the years lost to the pandemic, particularly Gen Zers, whose brains were still developing, Neo added.Unresolved trauma and mental health challenges put us in a state of fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, with our amygdala — the fear center of the brain — firing up regularly."This can make us more impulsive, less thoughtful of our choices, and can be a risk factor for romance scams," Neo said.Neo said scammers are highly sophisticated at creating profiles they think their marks will like. For some, this may involve a life of luxury, which may include travel, fancy meals, and expensive clothes.They're also well-versed in manipulation, she added, knowing that with the right push and pull of attention, they can hook their victims in with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-love-bombing-2017-7">love-bombing</a> and playing on <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/mental-health/anxious-attachment-style">fears of abandonment</a>."You are trained to answer them, and you're trained to give them information," Neo said. "You're trained to trust them, and then they start to build this idea of the future together really, really fast."<h2 id="a06a6c0a-ba0d-49c2-9fc8-f39c568393ca">A shared struggle</h2>Once the bond is formed, scammers will get to work. Gen Zers understand what it's like to struggle, with many facing economic instability and having difficulty with <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-need-financial-support-parents-family-study-2024-7">bills</a>, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-millennials-housing-costs-insurance-debt-election-trump-biden-2024-6">rent</a>, and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-millennial-neets-happy-idle-until-finding-right-job-2024-6">finding jobs</a>.This shared vulnerability, accelerated by the isolation of the pandemic, is something scammers can exploit, Hendry Parsons warned.For example, a new friend or romantic connection made on social media may say they don't have enough money for a plane ticket for a visit and ask to borrow money. They might say they can't afford a Netflix subscription, but they want to watch the same show together and ask to share your account.Many couples do this simple act to show trust. But when combined with the chance that your Netflix password may be similar to your online banking ones, this innocuous sharing of one service becomes "an entire threat vector," Hendry Parsons said, with the danger of identity theft and further fraud."You're actually opening up a Pandora's box of your entire online identity," she said. "Something that's small with the wrong person can become a lot bigger."

Digitally-native Gen Zers aren't immune to romance scams

New Delhi: 78 per cent of consumers now prefer to do most of their banking digitally through <keyword id="19915384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobile-apps" source="keywords">mobile apps</keyword> or websites, according to the Alkami report. This shift is part of a broader trend towards <keyword id="21227659" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cashless-transactions" source="keywords">cashless transactions</keyword> and <keyword id="21012835" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="contactless-payments" source="keywords">contactless payments</keyword>, which have become the default for many, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the report, nearly 80 per cent of financial institutions have seen an increase in cashless transactions over the past two years. This change has been accelerated by the pandemic, with many consumers opting for digital payments to avoid handling cash. About 60 per cent of these institutions noted that the volume of cashless transactions has surged by more than 20 per cent. Cashless payments aren't a new concept--personal checks and credit cards have been around for decades. However, today's digital payments, whether made through a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, are quickly becoming the standard. The convenience and safety of these transactions, especially in a post-pandemic world, have made them more popular than ever. Allison Cerra, Chief Marketing Officer at Alkami Technology, said, "The banking leaders of the future will be those that can harness data for the best use, gain a holistic view of their relationships, and meet the rapidly changing needs of digital consumers." With more people turning to <keyword id="20028215" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-banking" source="keywords">digital banking</keyword>, there's been a noticeable decline in the use of ATMs and checks. Chad Rogers, Executive Vice President at Connexus Credit Union, noted that even millennials are moving away from traditional banking methods. "What we're seeing, even with our millennial users, is that they're no longer ordering checks, or making cash withdrawals from our ATMs as we would expect. Instead, they are self-serving from home or wherever they are. They're moving money through our digital banking platform," he said. Interestingly, even though fewer people are visiting bank branches in person, their overall engagement with banks has increased. Thanks to the ease of mobile and <keyword id="19998466" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-banking" source="keywords">online banking</keyword>, customers are now interacting with their banks more frequently, often on a daily basis. While cashless transactions are on the rise, the adoption of cryptocurrency is growing more slowly. Around 21 per cent of financial institutions reported that their customers are asking for Bitcoin products and services. Although this is still a relatively small percentage, 35 per cent of banks believe that offering cryptocurrency options could give them a competitive edge. Banks are also feeling the heat from fintech companies like PayPal, Stripe, and Venmo. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, has called these fintechs "enormous competitive threats" to traditional banking. The popularity of fintechs has only increased during the pandemic, with many consumers turning to these platforms for their financial needs. Despite the competition, some banks are partnering with fintechs to stay relevant. According to the report, 50 per cent of banks and 40 per cent of credit unions have teamed up with fintech companies in the past three years to enhance their digital offerings. Looking ahead, many experts believe that the future of banking will revolve around personalised experiences. However, only about a quarter of financial institutions are currently using hyperpersonalization to gain a competitive advantage. There's a growing opportunity for banks to leverage personalised recommendations and offers to better serve their customers. Data is also playing a crucial role in this digital transformation. Most banks are now using data analysis to improve customer experiences, guide decision-making, and reduce development time and costs. By unlocking the potential of customer data, banks can better anticipate their clients' needs and offer tailored solutions. 78 pc of consumers choose digital banking over cash transactions

"While we've achieved significant scale in <keyword id="20377974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-inclusion" source="keywords">financial inclusion</keyword>, penetration remains a challenge, with only 25% of payment users being women, and even fewer in semi-urban and rural areas. Many women's mobile numbers are not linked to their bank accounts, hindering their participation," Bansal said. He added, "Yet, data shows women are 50% less prone to fraud and are highly loyal and engaged users. As an ecosystem, we must prioritize personalized, assisted services and continuous engagement across all channels. The NPCI's UPI platform has already revolutionized India's payment landscape, with UPI transactions soaring from Rs 920 million (USD 11.08 million) in FY 2017-18 to Rs 83750 million (USD 1.01 billion) in FY 2022-23, reflecting a staggering CAGR of 147 per cent. The value of UPI transactions reached INR 80.79 trillion (USD 96,287) across approximately 55.66 billion transactions in the first four months of FY 2024-25. Of the 536 million women aged 15 years and older in India, 37 per cent report using mobile internet, making the addressable market for UPI solutions among women around 200 million strong.

The S&amp;P 500 just topped 6,000 for the first time ever, and the tech-focused Nasdaq Composite is also in uncharted territory.Traders are convinced that the bulk of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-election-victory-impact-investments-costs-housing-taxes-childcare-2024-11">Trump's economic policies</a>, which include tax cuts and fewer government regulations, will create a business-friendly backdrop that drives stocks higher."Investor sentiment is pro-growth, pro-deregulation, and pro-markets," said David Bahnsen, the chief investment officer at The Bahnsen Group, in recent commentary sent to Business Insider.<h2 id="3e5bdf8a-fc97-4e3d-a950-f23703f0015e">'Animal spirits' have been unleashed</h2>While some are skeptical of the consensus view, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stock-market-outlook-trump-president-economy-tariffs-trade-war-kelly-2024-11">including those who are terrified about tariffs</a>, it looks as if investors broadly are scrambling to add exposure to equities. A staggering $22 billion flowed into exchange-traded funds on Wednesday, which was more than four times higher than the previous record for the day after the US election, according to State Street Global Advisors.Markets may hate uncertainty even more than tax hikes, so it's possible that a Kamala Harris win also could have sparked a relief rally.But that might dismiss how ecstatic big-money investors are about another Trump term, given that the S&amp;P 500 rose over 50% from his victory in 2016 until shortly before the pandemic."Business animal spirits could be rekindled once again from Trump's pro-business approach, which could lead to a more robust capital expenditures and investment environment," said Jeff Schulze, the head of economic and market strategy at ClearBridge Investments, in commentary.That term, "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/animal-spirits.asp">animal spirits,</a>" was coined in the 1930s by famed economist John Maynard Keynes, who remarked that investors' decisions are often driven by intense emotions like greed and fear.Anthony Saglimbene, Ameriprise's chief market strategist, borrowed Keynes' famous phrase to make the same point as Schulze: investors may be euphoric for the foreseeable future."Animal spirits through year-end could push major averages higher as the overhang of the election is removed and investors look to put excess cash to work in stocks," Saglimbene said in commentary.<h2 id="648d2368-71e0-40ed-9ed5-95b7faf9578c">How to invest after Trump's win</h2>Although the US economy <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economy-outlook-tariffs-trump-trade-war-slowdown-jpmorgan-david-kelly-2024-10">looks healthy by most measures</a>, many market strategists are counting on an even bigger boom under Trump that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stocks-to-buy-election-investing-strategy-2016-comparison-morgan-stanley-2024-11">would benefit economically sensitive stocks</a>."This broad 'risk-on' mood for the U.S. stock market is cutting across all sectors, but particularly favoring more cyclically sensitive sectors that would benefit from a re-strengthening of the economy and tailwinds to corporate profitability," said Jim Baird, the chief investment officer at Plante Moran Financial Advisors, in written commentary sent to BI.Sectors that are heavily reliant on economic growth, like energy and financials, will stay hot, said Sébastien Page, the head of global multi-asset at T. Rowe Price, in a recent interview."I don't think it's over the top," Page said of the postelection market rally.Several of the strategists and investment chiefs that Business Insider leaned on for this story also cited small caps as a top idea, provided that the economy stays strong and taxes fall."Enough people had been worried about, 'Could we have a credit cycle? Could we have an economic slowdown into next year? What would increases in taxes and regulation do?'" said Sean Gallagher, the global head of Lazard's small-cap equity platform, in an interview.He continued: "Now that's off the table. I think it just increases small-business optimism. I think it'll increase <a target="_blank" href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalexpenditure.asp">CapEx</a>, which has been kind of held back."Smaller companies performed admirably early on in Trump's first tenure, though <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cheap-stocks-to-buy-strong-growth-market-outlook-garp-bmo-2024-10">they've lagged large caps for years</a>. Gallagher is highly optimistic about the group again, both because of the economic environment and their valuations, which are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stocks-to-buy-small-mid-caps-market-rotation-outlook-bmo-2024-10">startlingly cheap relative to their peers</a>.Schulze from ClearBridge is also aboard the cyclical and small caps train. The strategist is fired up about what Trump's penchant for lower taxes and limited regulations means for industrials, consumer discretionary stocks, and financials.Saglimbene from Ameriprise concurred again that "the backdrop for financials could improve, as less regulation and the potential for merger/acquisition and capital market activity accelerate."Add the technology sector to the list of winners from less governmental oversight, Bahnsen said. Tech companies seem like a clearer beneficiary since the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) should be less hostile to their interests.For all the optimism in markets, some strategists are branching out from stocks.Jim Thorne, who's the chief market strategist at Canada-based wealth management firm Wellington-Altus, said in commentary that he's most interested in gold and bitcoin, which some have referred to as the yellow metal's digital doppelgänger.The world is awash with cash, making scarce assets like gold and bitcoin more valuable, and Thorne also noted that global economic growth is slowing. That suggests that the path forward for risk assets may not be smooth — even if Trump is successful in his second term."Investors should brace for volatility and shifts in market leadership as we transition to a peacetime economy, shaped by Trump's policies," Thorne said in written commentary.
