<ul><li>HDFC is looking to bring in more capital in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic to the tune of ₹14,000 crore. </li><li>India’s biggest mortgage lender plans to raise ₹10,000 through qualified institutional placement (QIP) and ₹4,000 in warrants. </li><li>Another ₹9,000 will be issued as secured redeemable non-convertible debentures.</li><li>Check out the latest news and updates on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/">Business Insider. </a></li></ul>India’s biggest mortgage lender Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) is on the hunt for capital and that's boosting its share price. HDFC’s stock value jumped by 1.5% in early morning trade after the company announced that it has plans to raise ₹14,000 crore through its new equity fundraising program. Around ₹10,000 crore will come from qualified institutional placement (QIP) and ₹4,000 crore in warrants. <div type="image" title="HDFC BANK stock price (1)" msid="77385963" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;HDFC share price jumps 1.5% as markets open today morning&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The floor price for the equity shares has been set to ₹1,838.94 and the board of directors will meet again on August 10 to determine the issue price. In addition to the ₹14,000 crore, HDFC will also be issuing secured redeemable non-convertible debentures worth ₹9,000 crore. This is the third time in the last 12 years that HDFC is raising capital through such an offering. It did so once in 2009 and then again in 2015. HDFC's first full quarter in the face of the coronavirus pandemic saw a loss of 4.7% at the end of June. Its gross non-performing loans stood at ₹8,631 crore accounting for 1.87% of HDFC’s loan portfolio. The company already has ₹12,285 in the bank as provisions to serve as a cushion once the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) moratorium ends on August 31. It even added another ₹1,199 this quarter specifically for COVID related accounts. Despite having safeguards in place, many companies are going down the QIP route to shore up capital against the uncertainty of the coronavirus pandemic. This includes Kotak Mahindra Bank, Info Edge and — most recently to lay down its offering — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/finance/banks/news/axis-bank-finalises-10000-crore-share-sale-to-raise-funds-at-a-floor-price-of-442-19/articleshow/77354177.cms">Axis Bank for a whopping ₹ 10,000 crore</a>. Others either have approved fundraising plans on stand by or are in the process of putting out their own QIP. HDFC’s share price opened 1.5% higher after announcing ₹14,000 crore fundraising

New Delhi, Jan 8 () Personal care brand Mamaearth on Wednesday said it has raised Rs 130 crore in funding led by Sequoia India.
 The funding also saw participation from existing investors, Fireside Ventures, Stellaris Venture Partners and Sharp Ventures.
Founded in 2016 by husband-wife duo Varun and Ghazal Alagh, MamaEarth offers skin and hair care, and baby care products. 
The company plans to use the freshly acquired funds over the next three years to continue its growth, building it into a Rs 500 crore brand by acquiring five million new consumers, a statement said. 
The funds will also be used to launch more brands under the Honasa umbrella- all of which will be internet-first and focused on the needs of millennial consumers, it added. 
 Honasa is the parent company of personal care brand Mamaearth.
The company plans to utilise the funds to hire talent as the organization scales rapidly. It also plans to expand into key markets in Southeast Asia.
"Our vision is to create the FMCG conglomerate of the future by building brands that connect strongly with millennials and Gen Z customers using the combined power of digital marketing and e-commerce at large scale," Mamaearth founder and CEO Varun Alagh said in a statement.
Mamaearth, with a Rs 100 crore run-rate, has over 80 products in its portfolio with more than 1.5 million consumers in over 500 cities across India.
"Out of India's over USD 15 billion personal care market, online channels contribute to only 3-5 per cent. With 15-20 per cent of Indian shoppers influenced digitally and expected to double in next 7-8 years, digital first brands have the potential to redefine the architecture of tomorrow's FMCG companies," Sequoia Capital India LLP Principal Ishaan Mittal said. Mamaearth raises Rs 130 cr in funding led by Sequoia India

Mumbai, May 7 () Lionsgate India has announced that it will be livestreaming some of its hit movies as part of a new initiative to raise funds for people impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.The studio has partnered with Facebook for the initiative "Lionsgate Live! A Night at The Movies" during which it will screen a Hollywood blockbusters on four Fridays starting May 8.The movies to be screened are Jennifer Lawrence-starrer "The Hunger Games", Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's "Twilight", heist movie "Now You See Me 2" and "Wonder", starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and jacob Tremblay.Lionsgate has enlisted popular film stars Anil Kapoor, Ananya Panday and Sanya Malhotra to participate in this initiative. Viewers can watch these films with their friends and family during the livestreaming and can also donate by pressing the button next to the video. COVID-19: Lionsgate to livestream films to raise funds for GiveIndia

New Delhi, Feb 5 () Agricultural warehousing and logistics firm Leap India Food and Logistics Pvt Ltd on Wednesday said it has raised Rs 164 crore in Series-B funding from the Danish SDG Investment fund and Neev Fund. The Danish SDG Investment fund is a fund managed by Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), Leap India said in a statement. With a twofold mission to connect the grain supply chain from farm to business and to transform itself into a robust Agri-Silos and Logistics platform, Leap India will utilise these funds towards tangible future growth, it added. "SDG Fund's investment, along with round two of investment from the Neev Fund, backed by the UK Government - Department for International Development (DFID) and State Bank of India, will allow us to expand and reach a critical size, while, at the same time, team up with strong, foreign institutional investors," Leap India promoters said. At Leap, the aim is to build a large platform of grain storage sites, which can help FCI and the private sector to make grain storage more efficient with the use of technology and modern storage infrastructure, they added. "By investing in Leap, we are addressing one of India's most pressing challenges, namely helping to improve food storage efficiency and reduce undernourishment, while having secured an attractive risk vs. return profile in the deal," IFU, South Asia VP Deepa Hingorani said. In a similar vein, Neev Fund CIO Manav Bansal said: "We welcome the Danish SDG Investment Fund as a partner and co-investor in Leap India. This fructifies our fidelity to the Sustainable Development Goals of poverty alleviation by doubling farmer income through food security in India." Leap India raises Rs 164 cr in Series-B Funding

Mumbai, Dec 20 () The government has given a Rs 500-crore guarantee to cash-starved Air India which will help it secure fresh funds for operational requirements, a senior airline official said.
 Striving to keep afloat due to liquidity issues, the loss-making carrier had last week sought Rs 2,400 crore guarantee from the government for raising funds to mainly meet its operational requirements.
 "The government has extended Rs 500 crore guarantee to Air India. It was provided the airline on Wednesday," the official told .
 The sovereign guarantee will help the airline secure some funds, a part of which has already been drawn, he said adding," Air India is already in discussions with the banks."
 The amount of Rs 2,400 crore is part of the Rs 7,600-crore guarantee that was to be provided to the airline in the current fiscal.
 Air India's net loss in 2018-19 is provisionally estimated to be Rs 8,556.35 crore.
 Last month, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri informed Parliament that Air India will have to shut business if it is not privatised.
 The Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism (AISAM) has approved re-initiation of process for the the government's 100 per cent stake sale in Air India along with Air India Express and the carrier's stake in joint venture AISATS.
 The government is likely to issue Expression of Interest (EoI) for 100 per cent strategic sale in Air India in the fourth quarter of the fiscal.
 According to the government, it has infused funds to the tune of Rs 30,520.21 crore in the flag carrier from financial year 2011-12 till Dec 5. IAS MKJ

In 10 years, the founders aim for it to become a 8,000-students campus. “We met the Punjab and Haryana government, where the Punjab government was excited about the university. When the idea started it was five-six of us and now we have reached 40, the number will keep growing as it’s a combined philanthropic effort,” said Gupta. The idea behind the university is bringing technological solutions for society, Gupta said, adding they hope its ideas will help solve India’s challenges in areas ranging from food security, environment sustainability, health, education or innovation in manufacturing. “Technology has a huge role to play in advancing solutions for these problems.While the approach of the university will be to look at cutting edge technology in sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, robotics among other, we would like the university to sensitize and deal with solutions focused on India,” said Gupta. Top CEOs from India are raising funds to set up a technology university

<keyword id="299675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Eduardo-Saverin">Eduardo Saverin</keyword>, the co-founder of Facebook, and prominent Silicon Valley investor <keyword id="3371248" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raj-Ganguly">Raj Ganguly</keyword> have come together and raised $143 million fund for an <keyword id="3371558" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Asia-focus-fund">Asia focus fund</keyword>, using which they would invest in India and South East Asian countries. 
 As per sources, the amount was raised for venture capital investments from a pool of 18 investors. <keyword id="3371559" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="B-Capital">B Capital</keyword>, the firm that Saverin and Ganguly run, invests in varied sectors like e-commerce, financial services, health &amp; wellness and travel &amp; transportation. 
 
The reason behind a special emphasis on India and South Asia is that the region still faces many gaps, the duo stated. 
 
"Whether it is funding availability, stage, talent, institutions, or exits, the presence of such whitespaces in the ecosystem makes it equally challenging and rewarding for investors," said Saverin and Ganguly in a blog post. 
 The fund would focus more on Series B and C rounds, given the potential openings that this segment offers. Having invested in Menlo Park-based <keyword id="3371561" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Evidation-Health">Evidation Health</keyword>, a population health management and analytics platform and Singapore-based <keyword id="3371560" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ninja-Van">Ninja Van</keyword>, a last-mile logistics company for E-Commerce delivery and return, the firm is based in Singapore.
