Similarly, women were a third more likely to work, or own a company, in a sector that was shut due to COVID-19 regulations last year. Wunderman Thompson launches Fund Femme to support women and non-binary business founders

<p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>While world media was abuzz with the world-record breaking sale of Picasso's "Les femmes d'Alger" for $179 million at Christie's, another anonymous buyer took home the most expensive statue ever auctioned. </span></p><p class="p2">That anonymous buyer turned out to be <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">hedge fund billionaire Steven Cohen, <a href="http://pagesix.com/2015/06/08/steven-cohen-drops-141m-on-worlds-most-expensive-sculpture/">Page Six reports</a>. </span></p><p class="p2"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Cohen secretly bought Alberto Giacometti's 1947 masterpiece "Man Pointing" for $141.3 million at Christie's - adding to an impressive collection of artwork with an estimated worth of $1 billion. </span></p><p class="p1"><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Cohen's collection houses works by Monet, Edvard Munch, Jasper Johns, Jeff Moons, Willem de Kooning, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst, among others, according to<a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2010/06/steve-cohen-on-life-love-his-art-collection-and-those-pesky-insider-trading-rumors"> Vanity Fair</a>. </span></p><p class="p1"><span class="s1">For Cohen, however, the life-sized sculpture is not the most expensive piece he's bought. Hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen bought the most expensive statue ever auctioned

Los Angeles, Apr 15 () Filmmaker Ava DuVernay's non-profit foundation Array Alliance has kickstarted a USD 250,000 funding initiative for organisations and individuals that focus on narrative change by people of colour and women of all kinds.<p>According to Deadline, the fund will support film festivals and screening series impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.</p><p>The idea is to provide financial support to grassroots entities that serve as a cultural catalyst for pushing the envelope with storytelling.</p><p>Unrestricted grants of USD 10,000 have been awarded to 14 inaugural honourees that serve African American, Latinx, Asian American, Native American, multi-ethnic and women-centric film communities: BronzeLens Film Festival, Cine Latino Film Festival, IllumiNative, Sankofa Film Society, Gary International Black Film Festival, UrbanWorld Festival, Cinema Sala, Lumbee Film Festival, Indigenous Film Festival, Black Femme Supremacy Film Festival, Visual Communications, ImageNation, Cinema Detroit and the Houston Museum of African American Culture. </p><p>Grants were also presented to The Sarah Jones Film Foundation and to Wilson Morales of BlackFilm.com.</p>DuVernay, known for Oscar-nominated film "Selma" and documentary "13th" and, Netflix limited series "When They See Us", founded Array as a multi-platform media company and arts collective in 2012. COVID-19: Ava DuVernay launches USD 250,000 grant programme

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Warning: There are major spoilers ahead for episode five of "<keyword id="8895349" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier">The Falcon and the Winter Soldier</keyword>."</li><li>The episode featured a character named Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who goes by Val.</li><li>The mysterious character was played by Emmy-winning "Veep" star <keyword id="351548" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Julia-Louis-Dreyfus">Julia Louis-Dreyfus</keyword>.</li></ul><p>After hyping up a major cameo to come on "<a href="https://www.insider.com/category/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier">The Falcon and the Winter Soldier</a>," the penultimate episode of season one delivered on that guarantee. </p><p>Episode five, titled "Truth," was expected to be a major episode of the <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/marvel">Marvel</a> series.   </p><p>"TFATWS" head writer Malcolm Spellman previously <a href="https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/streaming-new-april-netflix-disney-hbo-max-hulu-amazon/">told ComicBook.com</a> that he was most excited for fans to see episode five because "it just gets real" and will make people cry. </p><p>And in an interview with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRajmPoblyY&amp;t=14s=14s">Rotten Tomatoes</a>, Spellman teased a cameo on episode five.</p><p>"There are characters in our series who I would love to see partnered with like - it's a very, very grounded character - partnered with one of the big world-shakers like Thor or someone like that," he said. "The personality is so strong, it's the episode five character. I'd love to see that character with Thor."</p><p>More recently,  <a href="https://www.slashfilm.com/the-falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-cameo-episode-5/">Slash Film</a> reported that "this surprise character is not one that we've seen in the MCU before and not one who is primed to appear in an upcoming film."</p><div type="image" title="falcon and the winter soldier" height="1537" width="2050" msid="82107187" hostid="261"></div><p>"However, we have learned it is an existing <keyword id="47501" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Marvel">Marvel</keyword> Comics character who is played by a well-known performer," The publication reported.</p><p>The much-anticipated cameo took place almost 15 minutes into the episode, after John Walker was stripped of his title of Captain America due to his very public murder of a Flag Smasher during the prior episode. </p><p>As John's wife, Olivia Walker, was talking him through his next course of action, they were interrupted by a woman walking toward them. After taking off her sunglasses, the person was revealed to be 11-time Emmy-winning "Veep" star <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/julia-louis-dreyfus">Julia Louis-Dreyfus</a>.</p><div type="image" title="the falcon and the winter soldier 105 val 4" height="1200" width="1599" msid="82107189" hostid="261"></div><p>Dreyfus' character introduced herself to the couple as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, also known as Val. </p><p>Val told John that she would have killed the Flag Smasher too and, ignoring Olivia's question about who she is, revealed that she knows John took the super-soldier serum. </p><p>"It has made you very, very valuable to certain people," she said. "I actually think it was the second-best choice you've ever made in your life."</p><p>She said that there were two actions tied for the first place: marrying "fabulous firecracker" Olivia and "picking up the phone when I call you."</p><p>Val also revealed that she knows John no longer has the shield (which Sam and Bucky took during an earlier confrontation) and <a href="http://insider.com/falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-episode-5-credits-scene-explained-2021-4">planted the seed for John to make his own version</a> by reminding him that the prized possession "doesn't really belong to the government."</p><p>Then she left a seemingly blank business card and said, "I'll be in touch."</p><div type="image" title="the falcon and the winter soldier 105 val john olivia" height="1193" width="1590" msid="82107190" hostid="261"></div><p>The appearance of Louis-Dreyfus left viewers with plenty of questions about who she's playing and what the character's motive is. </p><p>Interestingly, <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/04/julia-louis-dreyfus-marvel-villain-character-contessa-valentina-allegra-de-fontaine">Vanity Fair</a> reported that Louis-Dreyfus was supposed to make her Marvel debut in "Black Widow," which was <a href="https://www.insider.com/no-new-marvel-cinematic-universe-movies-2020-fan-reactions-interviews-2021-1">originally supposed to be released in 2020 as the first project as part of phase four</a>. "Black Widow" was supposed to be followed by "TFATWS," then "WandaVision." </p><p>But due to the pandemic, the order of the three projects was reversed, and "Black Widow" is now <a href="https://www.insider.com/black-widow-new-release-available-disney-plus-theaters-july-9-2021-3">slated to hit theaters and Disney Plus on July 9</a>. Vanity Fair also reported that Louis-Dreyfus seemingly teased her involvement in the MCU two years ago in an <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/08/julia-louis-dreyfus-emmys-cover-story">interview with the publication</a>. </p><p>Following Louis-Dreyfus' cameo on "TFATWS," people theorized that the actress is portraying the elusive Power Broker, who's a key figure on the show but has yet to be seen. Val's interest in John taking the serum suggests that she could be the Power Broker, who's known as the judge, jury, and executioner in Madripoor. </p><p>Episode three of "TFATWS" also revealed that the Power Broker funded Dr. Nagel's recreation of the super-soldier serum. Because Karli Morgenthau stole the serum, she and the Flag Smashers are enemies of the Power Broker. </p><div type="image" title="the falcon and the winter soldier 105 karli and flag smashers" height="1053" width="1404" msid="82107191" hostid="261"></div><p>Other fans have also suggested that perhaps Sharon Carter is the Power Broker. She's been on the run since betraying the government in "Captain America: Civil War" and has been hiding out in Madripoor, where she's well-connected and has been paying the villain Batroc for jobs. </p><p>Others theories about Val's identity could be <a href="https://www.marvel.com/characters/valentina-allegra-de-fontaine">found in the comics</a>. </p><p>In the source material, Val was a triple agent with Russian origins who worked with S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and Leviathan. She also had romantic storylines with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and Steve Rogers/Captain America. In addition, Val worked with Sharon Carter as part of an all-female group known as the Femme Force. </p><p>Among Val's many adventures in the comics was one involving her being captured and replaced by a Skrull imposter. She also became Madame Hydra and was heavily involved in espionage, while still remaining loyal to the organization Leviathan.</p><p>Spellman also previously told <a href="https://ew.com/tv/falcon-and-the-winter-soldier-digital-cover/">Entertainment Weekly</a> that "TFATWS" ties into at least three Marvel projects.</p><p>With "Black Widow" and shows like "Secret Invasion" (which will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and center on Skrulls) on the horizon, there are plenty of possible theories on how Louis-Dreyfus' character fits into the MCU. </p><p>It's unclear how closely the MCU will follow the comics or how much they'll adapt from the source material, so fans will have to wait until next week's season finale for more answers about who Val is. </p>

'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' delivers on its promise of a major cameo. Here's what the character could mean for the MCU.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>There were once over 200 known lesbian bars in the US. Now, there are under 20.</li><li>I didn't realize how few were in NYC until I went looking for them myself. </li></ul><p>New York City is widely regarded as a hub for the LGBTQ community. </p><p>That's why I was so confused when, after coming out in 2020, my Google search result showed just three lesbian bars in my city: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/henriettahudson/">Henrietta Hudson</a> and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/cubbyholebar/">Cubbyhole</a> (both in Manhattan's West Village), and Ginger's Bar (in Park Slope, Brooklyn, <a href="https://www.brooklynpaper.com/lesbians-moving-out-of-dyke-slope/">which was once a popular neighborhood for lesbians</a>).</p><p>I was dumbfounded — how could this be true when entire neighborhoods take on the identity of "<a href="https://pudding.cool/2018/06/gayborhoods/">gayborhoods</a>" and rainbow flags hang in windows year-round?</p><p>I learned quickly that almost everything I <em>thought</em> I knew about queer culture was actually just what I knew about cisgender male gay culture.</p><p>This discrepancy in nightlife and the disheartening lack of permanent-fixture spaces for other members of the queer community is widely known. There were an estimated 200 known lesbian bars across the US in the late 1980s, according to documentary company <a href="https://www.lesbianbarproject.com/">The Lesbian Bar Project</a>. Now, there are around 20. </p><div type="image" title="A line formed outside of NYC lesbian bar, Cubbyhole" height="1650" width="2200" msid="93820417" hostid="261" sizebytes="264784"></div><p>After walking past Henrietta's and Cubbyhole and seeing lines wrapped around the block day after day, I'd get frustrated that everyone waiting couldn't just walk a block to the next bar the way anyone looking for a hetero space could.</p><p>While this revelation was hardly news on the grander scale, it's not something I, or many others I've spoken with, realized until we went looking for these places ourselves. </p><h2>Stepping into a lesbian bar after being in straight ones for years felt like a giant exhale</h2><p>For me, the difference between queer and heteronormative bars was apparent the first time I walked into Duplex — a West Village gay bar where queer women happened to be hanging out upstairs — in 2018. Seeing even a few other people who I sensed I had some connection with ignited a feeling of solace. I was hooked on that feeling and I didn't even know why yet.</p><p>Fast forward two years to time spent in both Cubbyhole and Henrietta's, and that sense of comfort hit 10 times harder.</p><p>For those who haven't been (and those who won't ever be) able to experience it for themselves, I'd describe the feeling of stepping into a queer bar as a massive, instant relief. It's realizing what it feels like to not carry all the extra baggage — which you may not have even realized you were lugging — that comes with trying to fit yourself into spaces rather than finding spaces that fit you.</p><p>Lisa Menichino, Cubbyhole's owner, told me she understands that with the generally growing acceptance of gay marriage, we no longer need to be in an LGBTQ bar to meet people. But, she said, it's not just about meeting a partner or new friend.</p><p>"There's something that will be just incredibly comforting about going to a place and you know everyone's going to be like you," Menichino said. "It's a community. You feel like you're at home. And that will never go away, even with 100% acceptance."</p><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/wormmomma/?hl=en">Lua O'Reilly</a>, a noise musician based in New Jersey, told me she believes existing in queer spaces is paramount to understanding what it is to be a queer person.</p><p>"It's one thing to be like, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian' or, 'Oh, I'm trans,'" she said, "but it's a whole other thing to be like, 'Oh, I'm going to freely exist openly in space as a trans woman, as a lesbian, as a nonbinary person.'" </p><h2>Queer women-focused bars and gay bars are not the same</h2><p>Many of the known gay bars and clubs in NYC are dominated by cisgender gay men.</p><p>"When you say 'gay bar,' people assume that it's an umbrella term where everyone is welcome," Vancouver-based content creator <a href="https://www.instagram.com/breannewilliamson/">Breanne Williamson</a> told me. "But, we've come to find out that queer women, in particular, do not feel welcome in a lot of the brick-and-mortar spaces that claim to be a safe space for everyone."</p><p>O'Reilly described past interactions at gay bars as "very confrontational" with men getting "really fucking angry," and said she often gets misgendered at the door. "I don't like gay bars," she said. "People do not want me to be there."</p><p>Williamson added there are myriad reasons why queer women may not feel comfortable in a predominantly male crowd. But in lesbian spaces, she said, "there's this camaraderie of understanding what it's like to both be queer and be a woman," adding that it's exciting to have that space because we're often not given it.</p><div type="image" title="Photo showing a rainbow neon sign that says &quot;Open For All.&quot;" height="2274" width="3024" msid="93820419" hostid="261" sizebytes="432220"></div><h2>Lesbian bars aren't just for people who identify as lesbians. The terminology and clientele is fluid and ever-changing.</h2><p>When O'Reilly hears the term lesbian bar, she thinks of a cis lesbian space where other femmes, trans mascs, and gay men can also exist.</p><p><a href="https://www.lesbianbarproject.com/">The Lesbian Bar Project</a> dubbs a bar "uniquely Lesbian" if it prioritizes "creating space for people of marginalized genders; including women, non-binary folks, and trans-men."</p><p>These distinctions are made increasingly complicated as our understanding of terminology shifts and evolves, and the bars themselves are grappling with the changes.</p><p>Menichino and a longtime bartender at Cubbyhole, Deb Greenberg, told me they reject the idea that their establishment is for lesbians only.</p><p>Historically, calling something a lesbian bar wouldn't indicate that non-cis lesbians are welcome. But that's no longer how many people interpret it.</p><p>"If you feel valid enough as a lesbian, no matter what your gender is, you should feel welcome to be there," O'Reilly said. </p><p>And Brooklynite AP Freedman told me while in a lesbian bar, they feel like they're "around like-minded people who similarly may or <em>may not</em> identify as a lesbian but seek out those spaces."</p><p>Others agree that's what's so important about these bars. In 2019, <a href="https://www.eater.com/2019/9/12/20859367/lesbian-bar-la-the-fingerjoint">Eater's Meghan McCarron wrote</a> that queer-inclusive spaces like bars also create "an opportunity to build solidarity between cis and trans queers." While O'Reilly says lesbian bars are not places she feels <em>most</em> at ease, she appreciates that she feels comfortable.</p><p>"Realistically, I think it's a safe space for me to exist as a trans woman and not get flack," she said, "as long as I don't flirt with anyone."</p><p>Williamson, who wants to see more bars for all LGBTQ folks, told me she understands that it's hard to find terminology that's inclusive of the whole community.</p><p>"It's a lesbian space with an asterisk," Menichino said when talking about how she would categorize Cubbyhole. "It's a queer space collectively; it's a lesbian space as a subcategory." </p><p>Greenberg said she believes a lesbian-only bar "is very pigeonholed" and something she's not interested in being a part of. But where some establishments have made branding pivots, Menichino and Greenberg, who are Generation X, say they're still grappling with the word "queer," which was used as a slur when they were growing up.</p><p>"When people a few years ago started saying 'queer,' I literally, my whole body tensed up I thought I was going to throw up and pass out," Greenberg said as she recalled memories of her childhood.</p><p>Henrietta's owner, Lisa Cannistraci, agrees that these bars should be all-inclusive, and chose to lean into reclaiming terminology. In a "<a href="https://www.cruisingpod.com/">Cruising</a>" podcast <a href="https://www.cruisingpod.com/episodes">episode</a>, she explained her choice to rebrand as "a queer human bar built by lesbians." But she clarified that this doesn't mean the bar's clientele changed. </p><h2>It's a new era for queer women-focused bars, and I'm hopeful for it all</h2><h2><div type="image" title="Henrietta Hudson" height="1996" width="3000" msid="93820422" hostid="261" sizebytes="781454"></div></h2><p>Freedman told me they frequent many different queer bars in Brooklyn — which they said is becoming more of what they consider an ideal queer world.</p><p>"I can walk into many bars in Bushwick that already feel kind of inherently queer," Freedman said, "and that feels different than it used to be even a few years ago." </p><p>O'Reilly told me while she does hope for more transgender-focused bars, she feels lesbian bars are necessary for community and safety.</p><p>"Of course we need that," she told me. "Regardless of how difficult those spaces <em>could</em> be for me as a trans woman, they are the most accepting spaces if I just wanna go get a drink and hang out with a bunch of women," which she said is all she wants to do at a bar. "I don't need it to be a trans lesbian space."</p><p>While it might seem easy to just build a lesbian bar, Greenberg says a queer-bar owner has to take the time to really understand the community, or it won't stand a chance.</p><p>Therapist <a href="https://www.bipocrestorativetherapylcsw.com/">Ashley Zayas</a> told me as a patron, "I don't want to go to a queer bar that's owned by a cis-het person and give my money to that person versus someone that's within the community."</p><p>I feel the same way, and just because a place is labeled as inclusive doesn't guarantee it will be.</p><p>Freedman agrees: "If a space is inclusive, you will know, and if it's not, you will know."</p><p>Williamson thinks ownership is a crucial piece to solving this issue, saying she hopes these new bars are "run, owned, and operated by lesbians and queer women," because their ideals will trickle down to reflect who these spots are for.</p><p><a href="https://www.bipocrestorativetherapylcsw.com/">Zayas</a> said xe (Zayas uses both they/them and xe/xem pronouns) wants to see bars catered to a more racially-diverse and ability-diverse crowd. When going out in queer spaces, Zayas heads to BIPOC and Latinx parties instead of lesbian bars because they don't have the option to go to a bar specifically made for people in those communities — if the option existed, xe said they would go.  </p><p>But as Freedman pointed out, these spots might actually already exist, they may just not be searchable. </p><p>Over the past few years, I've seen new queer women-owned bars open around the country and in my city, including <a href="https://www.instagram.com/oddlyenoughbar/">Oddly Enough</a> in Brooklyn. I've also seen more events groups form in my area, including <a href="https://www.instagram.com/daveslesbianbar/?hl=en">Dave's Lesbian Bar</a>, a pop-up bar in Queens planning to open a permanent location, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/housegayjoy/?hl=en">GayJoy</a>, a queer community collective hosting events and keeping people informed of local goings-on. </p><p>While parties and one-off events are important and serve a purpose, I love the community that comes with having a bunch of neighborhood bars where you can cool off from a rough day, make friends with regulars, chat, and grab one last drink before heading home ending the night on a good note. </p><div type="image" title="Ginger's bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn" height="1500" width="2000" msid="93820424" hostid="261" sizebytes="145148"></div><p>These centers for community are, of course, businesses like any other bar. They need funds — sometimes over $1 million, as <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/26/style/lesbian-bars-popup-events.html">The New York Times reported</a> — to open, and then even more to <em>stay</em> open. </p><p>Greenberg suggests that anyone who wants to see more lesbian bars open should help financially support them if they can. She says it's also important to show up and spend money at already-open establishments and put your dollars behind the people who believe in the same end goal of creating more of these all-inclusive bars.</p><p>In June, musical artist Fletcher <a href="https://www.interviewmagazine.com/music/fletcher-is-getting-drunk-for-gay-rights">toured four of the remaining queer women-owned bars around the country</a>, raising awareness and money for the dwindling spaces, and making a $50,000 donation to GLAAD. </p><p>In my ideal world, there'd be countless variations of queer women-owned bars welcoming all LGBTQ folks through their doors every day, all across the country. And until then, you better believe I'll keep waiting over an hour in the rain to walk through the doors of the ones in my city. Because, honestly, that feeling is worth it.  </p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The pioneering <keyword id="6363239" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="luxury">luxury</keyword> <keyword id="2909743" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="streetwear">streetwear</keyword> brand, Hood By Air, has announced its official relaunch, three years after it abruptly went on an indefinite hiatus. </li><li>Along with a restructured company, Hood By Air cofounder Shayne Oliver has announced a partnership with the financial service <keyword id="9452694" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="cash-app">Cash App</keyword> — the first times the platform has formally teamed up with a luxury brand. </li><li>"We're thrilled to be a part of the return of HBA," Garrett McManus, Artistic Development Lead at <a href="https://cash.app/">Cash App</a>, told Business Insider.</li></ul><p>There is good news coming out of the <keyword id="6" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="fashion">fashion</keyword> industry this week: <a href="https://www.businessoffashion.com/community/people/shayne-oliver">Shayne Oliver</a>, the designer behind the pioneering luxury streetwear house Hood By Air, is relaunching the line after three years of being on indefinite hiatus. </p><p>The <a href="https://hbx.com/men/brands/hood-by-air">Hood By Air</a> fashion house officially relaunched on July 13, and will now consist of four entities: Hood by Air, HBA, Museum, and Anonymous Club. </p><p>Museum will be an institution that will house the brand's archives and help reinterpret and reintroduce old ideas to new audiences. Anonymous Club, meanwhile, will be a platform used to support emerging talents, many of whom will be given the opportunity to create and collaborate with HBA and Hood By Air. </p><p>At the same time, Hood By Air has announced an exclusive partnership with the popular consumer financial service Cash App, which will see the luxury brand release a limited-edition $35 Cash Card.</p><p>The card will <keyword id="6399502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="feature">feature</keyword> a metallic grid of EMB-style payment chips, designed by Oliver, and will mark the first times that a luxury brand has ever entered into a formal partnership with Cash App. The card will officially launch on Thursday, July 16. </p><p><div type="image" title="Cash App Card HBA 1" height="2190" width="1642" msid="76962247" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"We're thrilled to be a part of the return of HBA," Garrett McManus, Artistic Development Lead at <a href="https://cash.app/">Cash App</a>, told Business Insider. Both brands saw massive success in a run of about a decade, resulting in Hood By Air winning the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lvmh-brands-iconic-luxury-goods-bernard-arnault-2019-10">LVMH Special Jury Prize</a> in 2014, and Oliver winning the CFDA Swarovski Award for menswear in 2015. </p><p>"Thirteen years ago Hood By Air was birthed out of young, Black and POC creatives performing at the highest level," Oliver said in a press release. "This was the contemporary output because no one else was doing it."</p><p>But, as reported by Robert Cordero and Chantal Fernandez in Business of Fashion, the company <a href="https://www.businessoffashion.com/articles/intelligence/what-happened-to-hood-by-air">went on an indefinite hiatus</a> for various reasons in April 2017. Not least among those was that the brand was being led by young and inexperienced entrepreneurs who had trouble handling a rapid ascent in fashion. </p><p><div type="image" title="Shayne Oliver" height="4251" width="3188" msid="76962251" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Oliver also found himself struggling during this time and told SSense's Katja Horvat this July that <a href="https://www.ssense.com/en-us/editorial/fashion/creative-director-shayne-oliver-is-relaunching-hood-by-air">he had needed some time</a> to reassess where the company was headed.</p><p>But the world is much different than when Hood By Air was last a going concern. Luxury streetwear, the fashion genre that it practically created, is now one of the top trends in the industry, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/virgil-abloh-says-streetwear-is-going-to-die-next-year-2019-12">as previously reported by Business Insider</a>. </p><p>The US is also undergoing <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-gen-z-feels-about-george-floyd-protests-2020-6">a period of civil transformation</a>, sparked by the death of George Floyd. Black fashion leaders have launched a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/black-fashion-advocacy-group-metric-racism-white-washing-2020-6">Black in Fashion Council</a> and a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/candace-marie-stewart-talks-her-career-diversity-in-fashion-2020-7">Black in Corporate</a> initiative to help further conversations around diversity and inclusion. <div type="image" title="Cash App Card HBA" height="2190" width="1642" msid="76962258" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Brands are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fashion-powerhouses-discuss-future-of-industry-amid-pandemic-sustainability-2020-4">forgoing the fashion calendar</a>, as the world pivots to a digital world amid the pandemic, and the high priestess of fashion publishing, Anna Wintour, is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-fabulous-life-of-anna-wintour-2016-9">facing backlash</a> for the way she has run Vogue these past three decades. </p><p>Perhaps, then, fashion's prodigal son is returning right on time, along with his mission to once more redefine the luxury sphere, and support Black and LGBTQ artists while doing so. </p><p>"Hood By Air resides here to allow risk and be vanguards for where it's going next," he said in a press release. "Hood By Air, the new institution." </p><p><div type="image" title="Cash App Hood By Air" height="2190" width="1642" msid="76962261" hostid="261"></div>The house will set a new creative "theme" each year, and these themes and ideas will be made into fashion products. </p><p>The HBA line will return as a direct-to-consumer platform, one which will create collections, not based on market or seasonal trends, but on its own schedule. Then, the house will launch Anonymous Club and Museum, both initiatives to help young emerging artists and their creative endeavors. </p><p>The brand is also releasing a limited-edition T-shirt as part of the charity initiative Uprising, and proceeds from both the Cash Card and the T-shirt are set to be donated to help support both Black and LGBTQ communities, along with organizations such as <a href="https://www.instagram.com/btfacollective/?hl=en">Black Trans Femmes in the Arts</a>, <a href="https://emergencyreleasefund.com/">Emergency Release Fund</a> and <a href="https://www.glitsinc.org/">Gays &amp; Lesbians Living In A Transgender Society. </a></p><p>"There is another world that still needs to be created," Oliver said in a press release. "It's about tearing the old one down while figuring out a way to build a new one up, and in the midst of all of that, amplifying the ideas and conversations that we feel are important."</p>

Pioneering luxury streetwear brand Hood By Air is back 3 years after going on hiatus, and it's partnering with Cash App on a new 'Cash Card'

I had one credit card with a small, $500 limit, a car bill that I helped pay for by writing my parents a $250 check each month, and a Vanguard mutual fund, which my parents helped me set up at age 18.&#xa0;</p><p>These days, there is a lot more to keep up with. I now have three <em>credit card</em> accounts - not to mention the electric bill, internet bill, subscription services, car payment, car insurance, life insurance, gym fees, and student loans. This doesn't even begin to cover my monthly savings, let alone investments.</p><p>Somewhere along the line, I had to switch to automating my finances as much as possible in order to avoid late penalties and free up my energy to focus on other things.</p><p>To make payments, I decide my preferred transfer date based on my cash flow patterns. If I don't see the option to set up an automatic payment online, I call a customer representative and ask. Then, I add that payment to the master spreadsheet listing all of my automated transfers in the order in which they happen and check them off as I receive notifications that they've been paid.</p><p>The best part about automation is that you don't have to think about it. And, well, the worst part of automation is that you don't think about it.&#xa0;&#xa0;</p><p>In fact, I forgot one of the simplest ways to automate - my employee's 401(k) program! One of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/freelancing-too-scary-until-changed-perspective-2019-6">the reasons I hold a day job</a> is because it provides healthy employee contributions. Currently, I benefit from automatic contributions with no match needed, though I do contribute more from my gross paycheck. If your employer provides a match, most experts recommend contributing the amount needed to get the full match and double your savings. If you make it automatic, like me, you won't even miss it!&#xa0;</p><p>I know my strategy to make my money automatic isn't the only one out there and I'm always looking to fine-tune it, so I asked some experts and fellow financial writers to weigh in with their best tips. Here's their advice:</p><h2>Put your savings in the right place</h2><p>Business Insider's Tanza Loudenback started <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-save-money-every-month-automatically-2019-6">automatically contributing to her savings</a> from her paycheck every month, and she keeps those savings in high-yield savings account that earns interest faster than a traditional savings account. This gives him a buffer and prevents overdraft fees.</p><h2>Think twice and double check</h2><p>Logan Allec, CPA at <a href="https://moneydoneright.com/">Money Done Right</a> reviews his statements quarterly to make sure there are no unrecognizable charges.&#xa0;</p><h2>Watch out for expiration dates</h2><p>Allec also says to keep track of expiring credit and debit cards. If he sets up an automatic transaction with a card, he makes a note in his calendar to update the payment about three weeks before it expires.</p><h2>Take advantage of discounts</h2><p>Not only does automating prevent late fees, says Brynne Conroy of <a href="https://femmefrugality.com/millennial-anxiety-personal-finances/">Femme Frugality</a>, but signing up for auto draft (especially with annual subscriptions) can sometimes even lower payments.</p><h2>Keep it simple</h2><p>Mike Pearson, founder of <a href="https://www.credittakeoff.com/">Credit Takeoff</a>, says the easiest way to automate investments is to simplify your portfolio. With a target-date fund, Pearson has exposure to both US and non-US equities as well as both stocks and bonds. Heavy selling then made its way into German Bunds, with the 10-year yield climbing 9 basis points to 0.701%. The selling has Germany's benchmark yield at its highest level in 5 months. Weakness has also made its way into the US Treasury complex, where the 10-year yield is higher by 5 basis points, and at its own 5-month high near 2.34%. </p><p><strong>Verizon is buying AOL for $50 per share. </strong>The deal values AOL at $4.4 billion. </p><p><strong>New York Fed President Dudley says a rate hike will bring a 'regime shift.'</strong> Dudley says <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-05-12/fed-s-dudley-says-interest-rate-increases-will-mark-regime-shift">the timing of a Fed rate hike remains uncertain</a>, but, "After more than six years at the zero lower bound, lift-off will signal a regime shift even though policy would only be slightly less accommodative after lift-off than it is before." <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>This week, an art collector paid almost $180 million for <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/this-picasso-just-became-the-most-expensive-piece-of-art-sold-at-auction-2015-5">a single artwork by Pablo Picasso</a>. </p><p>That's a record for a public sale of art (though not close to the actual record if you <a href="http://www.vanityfair.com/unchanged/2012/02/qatar-buys-cezanne-card-players-201202">include private sales</a>).</p><p>Over at the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/14/upshot/the-179-million-picasso-that-explains-global-inequality.html?rref=upshot&amp;abt=0002&amp;abg=0">Upshot</a>, Neil Irwin folds this into the inequality story: the rich are getting exponentially richer, while most people see their incomes stagnating. And you can see how much richer the wealthy are getting by looking at skyrocketing art market prices: </p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">One of the most important findings of the leading economists who study inequality is that wealth and incomes at the very top are "fractal." What they mean is that when you zoom in on the upper end of wealth distribution, patterns repeat themselves in an ever more finely grained pattern.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Partners at law firms who are in the top 1 percent of all earners have seen their incomes rise faster than successful dentists who are in the top 10 percent. But by a similar margin C.E.O.s of large companies who are in the top 0.1 percent are seeing incomes rise faster than those law firm partners. Hedge fund managers in the top 0.01 percent are similarly outperforming the C.E.Os.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">And the kind of people who can comfortably afford to pay a nine-figure sum for a Picasso, the top 0.001 percent, say, are doing still better than that. You can draw that conclusion by reading the work of the French economists Thomas Piketty and Emmanuel Saez. Or you can form it by looking carefully at the market for the work of a certain Spanish painter.</p><p>He goes on to point out that the number of people who are able to "afford" the painting - assuming they are willing to pay "1 percent of net worth" and their net worth according to the Forbes billionaire list is correct - has increased by a lot since it was last sold in 1997. </p><p>More very wealthy people, continuously getting wealthier, means the price for very rare luxuries are going to skyrocket.
