TCS completes its fresher hiring target three months ahead of schedule but it’s not done yet

This is a pan-India opportunity exclusively open for management graduates who can join their workforce in FY 2022-23. The last date for registration is November 9. After the last date, the IT firm will announce the dates for the entrance test. The hiring process will be done in two steps. The first step is the entrance test, which will be conducted by the company after the registration. Candidates who manage to pass the test will be called for the second round i.e., the interview. The test will consist of 47 questions, which have to be answered in 90 minutes by the applicants. The test comprises three sections — verbal ability, quantitative aptitude and business aptitude. Bangalore, the IT hub of India saw the maximum drop in hiring at 16% in the <keyword id="46964" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-sector" source="Orion">IT sector</keyword> this October, as compared to the same month last year. A similar trend was seen in Hyderabad (12%) and Pune (11%) during the same period. Hiring slowed down in the IT sector this festive season: Report

<ul><li>Earnings season will begin next week with the results of major IT companies -- TCS on April 11 and Infosys on April 13.</li><li>Digital transformation deals continue to boost IT sector’s growth along with rupee depreciation in the recent months benefiting the sector.</li><li>However, profit margins of these companies are expected to be under pressure because of increase in employee salaries and record hiring.</li></ul>The March quarter earnings season will begin next week with the results of major information technology (IT) companies such as Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on April 11 and Infosys on April 13. Most analysts believe March is a seasonally weak quarter for IT companies and they expect moderate earnings growth amid margin pressures. The profit margins of IT companies are expected to be under pressure because of increase in employee salaries and record hiring. “Sequential growth for Indian IT will be moderate in March 2022 quarter and in line with historical seasonal trends. Margins will remain under pressure resulting from elevated wage increases, onsite as well as offshore,” said Kotak Institutional Equities. The entire IT sector is struggling to retain employees including top five companies. The company has launched the internal test to help employees to demonstrate their skills and achieve more — from higher salary packages to promotion from their existing job roles. This is applicable to the fresh hires as well, who want to upgrade their starting salaries. These tests can possibly double the slated fresher salary, if they get through the test. The company believes that this investment in skilled employees and bulk hiring will benefit the company in the long run. “With TNQT model for campus hiring, we can find more people who are hungry to prove a point and do well. If someone performs exceedingly well in the test, then we give them the option for a digital test which they can clear to aim for higher compensation,” Milind Lakkad, Global head of Human Resources <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/tcs-employees-can-sit-for-exams-to-be-eligible-for-higher-package-119101500045_1.html">told</a> Business Standard. While in case of experienced employees, the test will be open for employees with upto three years of experience. The tech giant has hired nearly 30,000 employees in the first six months of 2020 fiscal. “The revenue was lower than expected but hiring was on target. And, the utilization levels are healthy but can improve,” V Ramakrishnan, chief financial officer of TCS added. "When the technology is new or the demand is good, you don’t optimise. But, now that the volumes have started kicking in, we can get younger guys and train them," Rajesh Gopinathan, CEO and MD of TCS, told Business Insider. Last quarter, TCS hired 40% of the planned 30,000 fresh graduates. "It is a part of the plan to keep costs low," added Gopinathan. It hired another 14,097 employees this quarter, the highest ever number of employees that have been on boarded by the company in a quarter. As of 30 September 2019, TCS consolidated headcount stood at 450,738.
