New Delhi, <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> on Thursday said it has inked a pact to acquire a 26.79 per cent stake in digital platform <keyword id="6372183" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="freight-tiger" source="Orion">Freight Tiger</keyword> for Rs 150 crore. The company and Freight Commerce Solutions have signed a securities subscription agreement (<keyword id="53505" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ssa" source="Orion">SSA</keyword>) and a shareholders agreement (SHA) for the acquisition of the stake in Freight Tiger, the Mumbai-based auto major said in a regulatory filing. The SSA also includes a provision enabling Tata Motors to further invest Rs 100 crore over the next two years, at the then prevailing market value, it added. Freight Tiger is a digital platform that provides end-to-end logistics value chain solutions for cargo movement in the country. The platform connects shippers, carriers, logistics service providers and fleet owners to a single digital marketplace, making it easy to find, book and manage freight whilst offering a variety of software as a service (SaaS) solutions to digitise and streamline logistics interactions such as freight tracking, assignment, carrier matching, documentation, and payment processing. The platform facilitates more than 10 million trips on annualised basis and has been integrating and ironing out inefficiencies in cargo movements over the last 7 years. They have shifted data from servers to the cloud, the remote datacenters and software services provided by the likes of Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Google. Now that the world has become a little more digitised and is generating more data than ever before, <keyword id="1711444" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Snowflake">Snowflake</keyword> and other <keyword id="1384903" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="cloud-companies">cloud companies</keyword> have benefited from this shift to remote work. But how has your journey been? 2020 may have been a challenging year globally, but in India, we witnessed rapid growth in cloud adoption and data and analytics. More organisations, both start-ups and enterprises, are realising the cost and operational benefits of moving to the cloud. India is definitely well placed compared to other economies, especially when we think of cloud computing and data analytics. Q. How has Snowflake’s Data Cloud benefitted various industries? Would you like to highlight a few use cases? Every company or industry has its own unique business requirements; hence there is no one-size-fits-all solution. We carefully analyse their challenges and requirements before partnering with them to find the best-suited solution that addresses their needs. One of our first customers was Swiggy, India’s largest food delivery platform, which caters to millions of customers every month. Swiggy was experiencing challenges in their data warehouse, which were causing frequent memory leaks that blocked or stalled queries, especially during peak hours, and these ultimately affected their business. With Snowflake, 90 percent of Swiggy’s queries were executed in less than 100 seconds. This enabled more drivers to accept delivery requests. Another notable example is our partnership with Freight Tiger. As an end-to-end logistics network, Freight Tiger was looking for a platform that can seamlessly handle data from various sources, including semi-structured data. Additionally, Freight Tiger needed a solution that could support their scale in business whilst maintaining their current team strength. As a result, Freight Tiger is now able to run ad hoc queries and retrieve up-to-date data from a combination of various sources, with the assurance that the data is always available for the team. We also have a partnership with epiFi, a neo banking startup. epiFi is on a mission to help consumers in India understand their finances, maximise their savings, and spend intelligently. These include data engineering, data lake, data warehouse, data science, data applications, and data sharing. Start-ups that are already on the cloud can adopt Snowflake to manage their workloads. And for traditional enterprise customers with on-premises data centres, this is a great way to move to the cloud seamlessly. Q. What are some of the measures that analytics companies can take to keep up in the unfortunate times? In the face of the unprecedented challenges brought upon by COVID-19, the key to remaining agile is a better use of data. Organisations need to make fast, data-driven decisions, which have accelerated moving data to the cloud. The world around us will continue to change, and organisations need insights they can act on to adapt and transform. Considering the needs of the current moment, it’s clear that speed and access are the foundations of true transformation. For modern data leaders to increase the rewards of their cloud platform while adapting to the current crisis, we need to bring together critical data sets and increase access so businesses can unlock insights. The data and analytics companies need to be prepared for the worse situation. At challenging times, it is very important for the companies to keep customers at the centre of the conversation. There needs to be focus on customer requirements and adaptation to the business models the way customers are changing in terms of behaviour. In a nutshell, adaptability, agility, and quick execution are some of the key factors I would advise any company in this space. Q. How important a role does cloud, data analytics, and business intelligence play in the AdTech sector? Data analytics plays a crucial role in the AdTech sector in introducing new, more effective ways for marketers to get their online ads seen and generate a positive response. With big data analytics, AdTech companies can measure the responses to their ads, determining if audiences and users are behaving in the way they intended. We also partner with Greenhouse, a marketing agency that leverages data to help clients understand their customers’ journeys and make effective digital advertising decisions. At the same time, big data can be used to make sure the ad is seen at the best moment, factoring in the timeliness of the advertising strategy. Creating an ad that speaks to an individual customer at the exact right time they need to see the ad will register a positive response. In the end, data can make online advertising more effective, increasing its value for the AdTech industry. Technologies have been developed that essentially use cloud computing to eliminate the middleman partners like ad management services from Facebook and Google. Instead, companies can use platforms like Advertising-Platform-as-a-Service (APaaS) to achieve the desired results. This will result in lower mark-ups, bringing the overall price down. Q. How can data analytics &amp; business intelligence help programmatic advertising? There is a fundamental shift happening in advertising, with programmatic ad buying extending its impact from display to all platforms. Data-driven algorithms drive media optimisation to display the right messages to the right audiences across the web, TV streaming devices, or wherever they are. By leveraging Snowflake, customers can access their data in a safe and secure manner. This cross-channel, log-level data enables marketing campaign managers, ad buyers, and marketing analytics teams to help run full-funnel attribution and improve data analysis. This advanced analytics environment has the added benefit of keeping the data in a single place, adding an extra layer of privacy compliance. Q. How can marketers make the most of their marketing budgets by using analytics? While over the years investment in data analytics has been on the rise, there is still room to grow in terms of deriving maximum value from these investments. The key challenge happens to be the siloed approach of traditional brands. There is also a proliferation of marketing channels and tactics, making it imperative for companies to be deterministic about which channel or tactic is leading to a sale or any other desired outcome (form fill, a visit to a store, etc.). It’s here that data analytics is playing an important role. Attribution models use data to stitch together customer journeys, establishing all the channels a customer touched on their way to making a purchase and then leveraging data science to establish the relative influence of each of the channels on the end outcome. Attribution helps companies establish the true ROI of any marketing investment, by considering not just direct outcomes, but also indirect ones. Q. How do you foresee the growth of Snowflake in the India market? The growth will take place in three main areas, first being to grow champions across the key verticals like financial services, telecommunications, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare. After all, customers are your best testimonials. Secondly, we are planning to create an entire data ecosystem through our unique capabilities such as the Snowflake Data Marketplace, where data consumers and data providers alike can create new market opportunities and generate more revenue for their respective businesses. This is where we see true growth potential. Thirdly, our channel partners are an extension of Snowflake. We are confident that with the support of our wonderful channel partners here in India, we will grow our business. Q. What is your vision for the company? One of our key goals in India is to increase our reach and expand our footprint into the verticals in which we have seen success globally. Some of these verticals include financial services, telecommunications, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare, with digital cloud-native companies forming a critical segment across these industries. Snowflake India’s Country Manager shares how COVID-19 accelerated cloud adoption in India

<keyword id="31653" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sugar">Sugar</keyword> sector growth is expected to improve in Q4FY21, ratings agency India Ratings and Research (<keyword id="1704466" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ind-Ra">Ind-Ra</keyword>) said. Accordingly, the improvement is expected to come on the back of the subsidy announced in December 2020 and a <keyword id="9829915" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="strong-momentum">strong momentum</keyword> in <keyword id="35090" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="exports">exports</keyword>. "Ind-Ra expects healthy revenue growth in Q4FY21 after the delay in the announcement of the subsidy led to the aggregate revenue growth for major sector entities slowing down to 4 per cent in Q3FY21." According to the agency, increase in ethanol prices across categories will aid the profitability of the distillery segment in Q4FY21. "This is despite the increase in transportation costs on account of allocation to farther depots by oil marketing companies. A strong export revenue should also help, even as domestic spreads could contract on weak sugar prices." Besides, Ind-Ra expects India's <keyword id="115567" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sugar-production">sugar production</keyword> to increase 10 per cent YoY to around 30 million tonne (mnt) in sugar season 2020-21 (SS21), led by a sharp rebound in production in Maharashtra to 10.5 mnt. "Production in UP is likely to be lower at around 10mnt (SS20: 12.6mnt) with lower yields and recoveries coupled with the impact of higher cane diversion to sugar due to early closure of gur or khandsari producers because of the Covid-19 led lockdown in March 2020." "Sugar production increased 20 per cent YoY to 25.9mnt up to mid-March 2021." The agency cited that after a fall in Q3FY21, sugar mills have signed export contracts of almost 4.5mnt of the total quota of 6mnt for SS21 as strong international prices made exports remunerative, despite a reduction in subsidy to ₹5.8 per kg. "The strong demand is driven by the seasonal shortage, lower production in <keyword id="3739" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand">Thailand</keyword> and delayed exports from India. Indonesia has emerged as a key market after the country extended its preferential lower import duty to Indian sugar amid a decline in sugar production in Thailand." "However, the momentum of raw sugar could be affected with the arrival of Brazilian sugar in April or May though a delay in harvest is likely in an effort to improve recovery." Furthermore, the agency said exports to Iran could reduce amid an increase in the country's production and shortage of Indian rupee. "White sugar exports are also affected by the shortage of containers and an increase in ocean freight. As a result, Ind-Ra believes sugar exports could reduce to around 5.4mnt in SS21." Additionally, the agency said that with strong exports and an increase in ethanol diversion, Ind-Ra expects the closing stock to moderate to 9.5mnt-9.7mnt by the end of SS21. "However, despite the reduction, the stock would remain significantly higher than the normative carry forward requirement." Sugar sector growth likely to improve in Q4FY21, says Indian Ratings and Research

<ul><li>Grocery retail startup <keyword id="2466939" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Grofers">Grofers</keyword> has announced that it aims to have 500 EVs deployed on Indian roads by December.</li><li>It is also a part of electric vehicle freight project called Deliver Electric Delhi by the Delhi government.</li><li>Grofers was in the news in May when it raised over $200 million from Softbank Vision Fund. </li></ul>Indian grocery delivery startup Grofers is the latest to adopt <keyword id="6354973" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles">electric vehicles</keyword>. The startup <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/start-ups/grofers-to-deploy-500-e-vans-in-fleet-by-december-end-1563802903457.html">announced</a> that its pilots have been successful where its delivery costs went down by 50%. Now, it plans to expand and take it to 500 EVs by December. Grofers is already using EVs in Delhi and Jaipur. It is also a part of electric vehicle freight project called Deliver Electric Delhi by the Delhi government. The startup joins the league of Zomato, Swiggy, Flipkart and others, who have declared their plans to switch to EVs for delivery. Swiggy too is piloting the use of Electric Vehicles for its deliveries across 10 cities. It said that the EV adoption can reduce running costs by 40%. Over the last two years, Grofers’ has grown by a staggering 800%, to achieve an annual revenue of $400 million. Deploying EVs could help cut costs further. The grocery retail startup raised over $200 million in May, from Softbank Vision Fund. With this funding, its reported valuation is set to be almost $1 billion – just a few steps away from being a unicorn. The series F round also saw participation from new investor, KTB, and along with existing investors – Tiger Global Management and Sequoia Capital. It competitor BigBasket is already a unicorn.

Grofers aims to cut costs with electric vehicles, will deploy 500 EVs by December

<ul><li><keyword id="4393078" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric">Ola Electric</keyword> has partnered with <keyword id="6399726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bses">BSES</keyword> Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL). </li><li>Ola Electric will work with the power utility companies and set up charging stations and battery swapping stations. </li><li>In June, the Delhi government had said that it is running a pilot project testing the use of electric vehicles. </li></ul>Ola’s <keyword id="381751" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electric-vehicle">electric vehicle</keyword> subsidiary Ola Electric partnered with BSES Yamuna Power (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power (BRPL) to set up charging stations in Delhi. BSES Rajdhani Power is a joint venture of Reliance Infrastructure and Delhi government. With this partnership, Ola Electric will work with utility companies and set up charging and battery swapping stations. “Ola Electric has been working closely with ecosystem partners across the country to facilitate mass adoption of EVs and create solutions to operate with minimal restrictions. This programme further augments our efforts to lay a strong foundation to enable the smooth functioning of EVs across the country by creating a widespread network of charging solutions that vehicle owners and operators can rely on,” said Ankit Jain, co-founder of Ola Electric. In July, Ola Electric became a unicorn after it raised $250 million from Softbank. In May, Ola Electric also raised funds from Arun Sarin, former Vodafone Group CEO and also from the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group, Ratan Tata. In March, it raised ₹4 billion from Ola’s existing and early investors – Tiger Global and Matrix India. Through Ola Electric, the company partnered with several equipment manufacturers and battery manufacturers, while looking to work with the automotive industry for solutions for electric vehicles. Delhi government has been trying to create awareness of EVs. In June, the Delhi government had said that it pilot project testing the use of electric vehicles. With the electric vehicle freight project called Deliver Electric Delhi, 1,000 EVs will be used by 30 players for deliveries over the next 12 months. Some of the high profile participants of this project include Flipkart, Amazon, Bigbasket, Grofers, Uber Eats, Zomato to Hero Electric, Mahindra Electric, Tata Motors and even logistics company Blue Dart Express.
