The tax on share buybacks did not go well with foreign investors and neither did the proposal to increase the free float-- shares publicly held for trading-- to 35% from the existing 25%.  A combination of erractic and uncertain monsoon, a fall in consumption, and a slowdown in corporate earnings have further eroded investor confidence. Sensex and Nifty have hit a 5-month low and the fall will be sharper hereon

 The foreign investors’ bet on Indian insurance companies seems to be the right decision. The business growth for insurance majors spiked in November 2019. Private players like Bajaj Allianz Life, Kotak Life, and Tata AIA Life clocked a 25.9% growth in insurance premium in November alone, according to a research report from Emkay Financial Services. The amount of Indian insurance stocks foreign investors hold has grown ten-fold in just about a year

<ul><li>As foreign investors in Indian share market pull out money thick and fast, the Narendra Modi government is in damage control mode.</li><li>Prime Minister's office has reportedly asked Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to exempt the additional levy on profits made by foreign investors between April 1 and July 5.</li><li>This may reduce the burden on investors by a third, according to the report.</li><li>The surcharge had led to a sharp fall in stocks wiping out billions in market capitalisation.</li></ul>The latest budget for the financial year ending March 2020 imposed an additional tax on the country's super rich and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) got caught in the crossfire. The subsequent anger and market sell-off has wiped off billions of rupees in share market wealth in just about a month as foreign investors rushed for the exit. Most foreign portfolio investors in India operate as non-corporate entities such as trusts and associations, which are taxed like individuals and therefore the additional tax would fall on them. However, now the Prime Minister's office has reportedly stepped in.  On the table is a proposal to exempt all income generated by FPIs till the presentation of the Union Budget on July 5 from the surcharge. To be specific, all profits made between April 1 and July 5 this year may not face the additional tax if the proposal is accepted. This will reduce the impact of the new taxation by almost a third, the report estimated. Sources said that the ministry may announce the changes this week after the monetary policy review by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 7. On its part, the RBI is expected by experts to reduce the policy rates by 25 basis points to improve liquidity in the market and kickstart the investment cycle by the private sector. However, if the government misses the opportunity to get the proposal approved before the ongoing Parliament session ends, it will either have to wait for the next session in November or pass an ordinance. The drug is used for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis, to include clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease. Advanced Enzyme Technologies soar 7% Advanced Enzyme Technologies share price soared 7% after the foreign portfolio investor (FPI) bought nearly 4% stake in the agricultural products company via the open market. This came after Nalanda India Equity Fund on Thursday bought 3.75% stake. Tata Coffee and Tata Consumer leaps 4% The share price of Tata Coffee and Tata Consumer surged 4% after <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/tata-consumer-products-plans-to-bid-for-coffee-day-s-vending-business-120092401736_1.html">media reports</a> surfaced that the consumer arm of Tata Group, Tata Consumer Products, is planning to bid for the vending machine business of Coffee Day Enterprises. RIL gains nearly a percent The shares of Mukesh Ambani owned RIL were trading nearly a percent higher on Friday. The company’ telecom arm Jio has partnered AeroMobile to launch mobile services on 22 flights on international routes, with plans starting at ₹499 per day. <ul><li>Foreign investors had pulled out billions from India's equity market ever since the tax surcharge was announced in the latest budget.</li><li>The Narendra Modi government also announced a slew of measures including tax reforms to revive a sluggish economy.</li><li><keyword id="7706673" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance-minister-nirmala-sitharaman">Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> and her team addressed a press conference to restore the faith in the economy and the government.</li><li>Reform is a continuous process, she said in her opening remarks.</li></ul>In a bid to restore the faith in the Indian economy and the Narendra Modi government, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured the investors that the government respects wealth creators and declared that the surcharge on foreign and domestic equity investors has been rolled back. The benefit of the rollback is not available to the high net worth individuals. They will continue to pay the additional surcharge. However, the Finance Minister said that the government will review the decision in 2022, the seventy-fifth year of Indian independence. The latest budget for the financial year ending March 2020 imposed an additional tax on the country's super rich and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) got caught in the crossfire. The subsequent anger and market sell-off has wiped off billions of rupees in share market wealth since then as foreign investors rushed for the exit. Most foreign portfolio investors in India operate as non-corporate entities such as trusts and associations, which are taxed like individuals and therefore the additional tax would fall on them. The government will lose ₹1,400 crore by rolling back the additional surcharge imposed in the latest budget. For now, the capital gains on trading of shares by foreign and domestic investors will be exempt but the country's super rich will continue to pay the additional levy on their total taxable incomes. Overall, Indian merchants will earn more for the same orders as the rupee falls because they get more rupees for every dollar earned. In a bid to reduce demand for the yellow metal, India raised its basic import duty on gold to 15% from 10.75% earlier this month. And only 10 candidates qualified for this debate, based on the Democratic National Committee's decision to toughen the criteria to get on stage.&#xa0;Thursday marked the first time all of the top candidates - <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-joe-biden-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Former Vice President Joe Biden</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-bernie-sanders-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Sen. Bernie Sanders</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-elizabeth-warren-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Sen. Elizabeth Warren</a> - faced off at the same time.&#xa0;While all of the candidates made it clear they're on the same page when it comes to opposing <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-donald-trump-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-4">President Donald Trump</a>, things got heated as they sparred over the issues.&#xa0;But at the end of several hours of the feisty exchanges, Thursday's debate had a handful of clear winners and losers.<h2>The winners</h2>Debate moderator Jorge Ramos was among the biggest winners of Thursday night's debate, which says a lot about the tired performances from many of those on stage. He asked tough, substantive questions that put candidate's in uncomfortable positions and forced them to address issues in a way that went beyond what we've already heard from them.&#xa0;Ramos, for example, touched on the Obama administration's record number of deportations and asked Biden why Latinos should trust him.&#xa0;&#xa0;Ramos stood out from the beginning, offering opening remarks in both English and Spanish, in which he offered a message to Latinos, "This debate is taking place at very difficult moment for Latinos in Texas and all over the country. That's why it's important they know that we know that this is also our country."&#xa0;He also did not show a preference for any particular candidate, asking pointed questions of both moderates and those who lean more to the left. Castro said.Buttigieg was also a winner on Thursday night with his powerful and personal story of coming out after returning from his deployment in Afghanistan, which is something that's never been seen before on the presidential debate stage. He used the national spotlight to offer the country a human moment, which is increasingly rare among politicians in the present day.&#xa0;&#xa0;<h2>The losers</h2>Biden took a lot of hits on Thursday night, and struggled to land any significant blows in return. The fact he was targeted by other candidates so much was perhaps the only real sign he's the current frontrunner.Biden stumbled over his talking points and came off as far too old-fashioned. When Biden was asked a softball question such as how Americans should spend their evenings, for example, he said they should "have the record player on at night."&#xa0;&#xa0;<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-kamala-harris-bio-age-family-key-positions-2019-3">Sen. Kamala Harris</a> had a solid first debate in Miami, Florida, that <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/29/us/politics/kamala-harris-fundraising-2020.html">boosted her fundraising</a> and elevated her national profile. But she's been on the decline ever since.
