Kids in the UK are now spending more money on 'Fortnite' and 'Roblox' than candy and books

Mumbai, Apr 24 () Bank credit and deposits grew by 7.20 per cent and 9.45 per cent to Rs 103.39 lakh crore and Rs 137.14 lakh crore, respectively in the first fortnight, which ended on April 10, of the current fiscal, according to the latest data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).In the year-ago fortnight, bank advances had stood at Rs 96.44 lakh crore and deposits at Rs 125.30 lakh crore. In the fiscal ended March 31, 2020, bank loans had decelerated to 6.14 per cent, a near five-decade low, due to slower economic growth, lower demand and as banks remained risk averse. Loan growth in FY20 was the slowest since the fiscal ended March 31, 1962, when it had increased by 5.38 per cent. During FY20, bank deposits grew by 7.93 per cent to Rs 135.71 lakh crore as against Rs 125.73 lakh crore, the RBI data showed.When compared with the previous fortnight which ended on March 27, 2020, bank credit de grew by 0.3 per cent in the fortnight ended on April 10, 2020.Similarly, the growth in deposits was just 1.1 per cent in the reporting fortnight when compared with the fortnight which ended on March 27, 2020, data showed. New Delhi, Mar 31 () Traders' body CAIT on Tuesday said India's retail trade has incurred a whopping loss of USD 30 billion in the last fortnight alone due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the country's retail sector comprising 70 million small medium and big traders employing 450 million people, does a monthly business of approximately USD 70 billion, and is one of the hardest hit due to the pandemic. CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said even if global economies and other sectors of the Indian economy bounce back sooner than expected, Indian traders are likely to pay a higher price and the strenuous ramifications will reverberate for a much longer time than expected. "Most important reason for this devastating situation is the fact that a majority of the Indian traders have had to down shutters or curtail operations for health reasons, while still paying employees salaries and that's apart from meeting costs for rentals, taxes and other levies," he said. Khandelwal said that another significant reason is that the import cycle has been hit drastically due to which Indian traders may not have enough goods to sell even after the lockdown is lifted. New Delhi, Mar 31 () Traders' body CAIT on Tuesday said India's retail trade has incurred losses to the tune of whopping USD 30 billion (about Rs 2.2 lakh crore) in the last fortnight alone due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the country's retail sector, comprising 70 million small, medium and big traders employing 450 million people, undertakes a monthly business of about USD 70 billion (approximately Rs 5.2 lakh crore), and is one of the hardest hit due to the global pandemic. CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that even if global economies and other sectors of the Indian economy bounce back sooner than expected, Indian traders are likely to pay a higher price and the strenuous ramifications will reverberate for a much longer time than expected. "Most important reason for this devastating situation is the fact that a majority of the Indian traders have had to down shutters or curtail operations for health reasons, while still paying employees' salaries and that's apart from meeting costs for rentals, taxes and other levies," he said. Khandelwal said that another significant reason is that the import cycle has been hit drastically due to which Indian traders may not have enough goods to sell even after the lockdown is lifted.
