The company had posted a profit of Rs 127.74 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, <keyword id="19946643" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Forge" source="keywords">Bharat Forge</keyword> said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations during the quarter under review stood at Rs 4,164.21 crore as against Rs 3,629.05 crore in the year-ago period, it added. Total expenses in the fourth quarter were higher at Rs 3,843.55 crore as compared to Rs 3,469.05 crore in the same period a year ago. The Board of Directors at its meeting held on May 8, 2024, recommended a final dividend of Rs 6.50 per equity share of the face value of Rs 2 for the financial year ended March 31, 2024, subject to approval of shareholders at the ensuing annual general meeting, Bharat Forge said. For the fiscal ended March 31, net profit was at Rs 910.16 crore as compared to Rs 508.39 crore in the previous fiscal, it added. Consolidated revenue from operations in FY24 was at Rs 15,682.07 crore as against Rs 12,910.26 crore in FY23, the filing said. Bharat Forge Q4 profit rises 77% at ₹227.12 crore

Doubt crept in during vulnerable moments, and I questioned whether I made the right choice to leave my job. My <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-to-career-break-gap-year-resume-gaps-2023-4">career gap</a> changed how I approach my career.<h2 id="2ca2e32e-3a77-49ae-8886-982251b86a8d">I had a job I loved but still felt dissatisfied</h2>After receiving my doctorate in pharmaceuticals from the University of Buffalo in 2019, I started working as a retail pharmacist in Los Angeles. It was a really challenging job.I worked seven days on and three days off and was on my feet for most of the 12-hour shifts. I didn't have a life outside work. On my days off, I rested at home alone and ran a personal pharmacy and travel blog, which I started in 2012. I'd been looking for a new job when I stumbled upon a marketing position at GoodRX. I used my blog as my portfolio and got hired.My new job was <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/remote-job-allows-mom-be-present-while-breadwinner-2024-10">fully remote</a>, so I started <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/remote-worker-promoted-senior-manager-2024-4">renting monthly across the US</a> and creating more travel content on my blog.<div type="image" title="Nabila Ismail with her backpacking bag on" height="1800" width="1440" msid="114581483" hostid="261" sizebytes="608864"></div>I loved working at GoodRX. Every day was unique, and I enjoyed having so much creative control, but I couldn't fight the nagging desire to travel more. I thought I should be focusing on my career and starting a family.The old journal entry I wrote in pharmacy school about my meticulous plan to travel for a year at 28 encouraged me to immediately put in my two weeks' notice and commit to a yearlong unpaid leave.<h2 id="34cd9771-943c-4ade-b1f0-b3f7b234ff66">The timing was perfect, but it felt like a bad breakup</h2>I had <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/unlimited-vacation-pto-wins-risks-2024-8">upcoming PTO</a> scheduled to host my first-ever group travel trip, a two-week <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/quit-job-at-meta-bali-trip-moved-into-childhood-home-2024-8">vacation in Bali</a> with female travelers. I decided that when the trip was over, I wouldn't come home. Leaving my job felt like a bad breakup. I volunteered as a healthcare worker with refugees in Lebanon and learned Arabic in Jordan while volunteering as a social media manager at a hostel.One of the most special moments was spending two months in Pakistan, where my parents are from, and my grandparents live. It was really beautiful to nourish my sense of identity as a Pakistani-American.<h2 id="c4759078-c251-4a34-ab1b-472c9f97a292">There were moments where I thought I made a mistake</h2>My travels weren't just about exploring a place but exploring myself. I journaled, cried, read, and went inward, deeply contemplating what I wanted from life. Strangely enough, I missed the predictability of a full-time job.I got tired of planning and constantly being on the go <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/solo-travel-not-worth-it-after-decade-2023-7">without a home base</a>. Every move I made required looking up where to go, how to get there, and what to buy. I had to constantly be "on" just to keep myself safe. At around the six-month mark, I just wanted to go home and take a break.I told other <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/europe-solo-travel-woman-burnout-phd-academic-2024-3">solo travelers</a> about my overwhelm and most of them expressed having felt the same. They advised me to stay put in each spot longer or go home if I needed to. I decided to stick it out and follow through on my goal.<h2 id="0da9b223-887e-42d7-8231-05697b139f85">I struggled to get rehired after 12 months of travel</h2>During my final months of travel, I started applying to full-time content marketing roles in the health and tech spaces. I didn't hear back from any companies and worried my career break was a huge mistake.I went home at the one-year mark, but I left two weeks later for six more months of travel. I could keep fighting for a job in healthcare or lean into what is fulfilling me at the moment.I decided to stop looking for jobs and turn my group travels into a company. I quit my stable 6-figure job to travel the world. It was lonely, and I worried I'd made a mistake, but I learned to forge my own path.

Dad would drive me to the new bakery that her friend's son was about to open in our <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-woman-moved-us-shares-what-surprised-her-2024-7">hometown in northern England</a>.Two hours later, I sat opposite the manager as she read aloud parts of the application my mom had forged without my knowledge."You wrote that math is one of your best subjects," the woman said, noting that the position was for a part-time counter person at the bakery.I was abysmal at math. Sure enough, when the manager asked me to solve a simple equation to test my <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/hard-viral-math-questions-2017-12">mental arithmetic</a>, I got the answer spectacularly wrong.Next, the woman showed me the personal note my mom had mailed with my application, addressed to the business owner and introducing herself as his mother's friend. "Congratulations, John," she wrote. "Wishing you all the best with your new business venture."<h2 id="070f30c3-4e97-4c59-899f-d066c12c1cbe">Hired after showing initiative myself, I felt proud</h2>I cringed, barely believing Mom had tried to pull so many strings to get me the job. The manager had my number, and I didn't get hired.When I got home, I argued with my parents. "We were just trying to help," my dad said. "Don't ever do that again," I yelled.They had good intentions, but it was an example of helicopter parenting at its worse. They wanted to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wfh-fears-impacting-kids-parenting-remote-work-2024-7">instill a work ethic </a>in me, but it backfired.A few months later, I secured a part-time job by randomly asking for shifts at a local café. The owner said he admired my initiative, which boosted my bank account and self-esteem.I later found part-time work as a dishwasher at a restaurant, a sales assistant in a menswear store, and a bartender. "My daughter's looking for a part-time job in the evening, particularly on weekends."The guy looked appalled. "Don't do this," he said, shaking his head. I was taken aback. "But I'm just trying to help her," I said. "You're doing her no favors at all," he replied.It stung at the time. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Riley Keough is fighting to stop the auction of Elvis Presley's Graceland estate.</li><li>Lisa Marie Presley used Graceland as collateral when taking out a loan, per a public notice.</li></ul><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elvis-presley-priscilla-relationship-timeline">Elvis Presley's</a> granddaughter, the actor <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/daisy-jones-and-the-six-facts-about-star-riley-keough-2023-3">Riley Keough,</a> is fighting to prevent the auction of his <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/graceland-elvis-presley-home-mansion-tour-memphis-tennessee-photos-2022-6">iconic Graceland estate.</a>Last week, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.commercialappeal.com/public-notices">a public notice announced the foreclosure sale of the Memphis property.</a>It claimed that the Promenade Trust, which operates Graceland, owes $3.8 million to Naussany Investments and Private Lending to repay a loan.According to the notice, the home was scheduled for a public auction on Thursday at the Shelby County Courthouse.However, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/daisy-jones-and-the-six-riley-keough-makeup-2023-3">Keough,</a> a trustee of the Promenade Trust, filed a claim on May 15, alleging that the creditor used forged signatures.Media outlets, including USA Today, citing Keough's legal team, reported that a temporary restraining order had been granted, delaying the auction.Keough's lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.According to the <a target="_blank" href="https://wreg.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/18/2024/05/Riley-Keough-Naussany-Graceland-lawsuit.pdf">lawsuit</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lisa-marie-presley-most-iconic-looks-over-the-years-2023-1">Lisa Marie Presley</a>, the late daughter of Elvis Presley, is accused of borrowing $3.8 million from Naussany Investments in May 2018, and giving a deed of trust related to Graceland as collateral.But Keough alleged in the lawsuit that the documents used were "fraudulent," claiming that her mother never borrowed the money nor gave the deed of trust."While the documents bear signatures that look like the signatures of Lisa Marie Presley, Lisa Marie Presley did not in fact sign the documents," the lawsuit says.An injunction hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, according to USA Today.In a statement provided to BI, Elvis Presley Enterprises, which runs the assets of the Elvis Presley Trust, said: "Elvis Presley Enterprises can confirm that these claims are fraudulent. There is no foreclosure sale. It's not clear where Gershon is calling in from, though it seems like it may be from her home, given her repeated interjections of "Hey, stop that!" to someone — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C4qEcj2ONOi/?img_index=1">maybe her beloved cat, Louie?</a> — off-camera.For someone who's been working consistently for decades since breaking through with a bit part in 1986's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pretty-in-pink-cast-then-now-photos">"Pretty in Pink,"</a> <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/i-dream-of-gina-7388">remarkably little is known about her private life</a>. Were you hesitant at all to take on the role?I was hesitant to take on any role coming off of "Showgirls," just because, honestly, I was pretty burnt out. It was a very intense shoot, as you can imagine. I happened to have read the Wachowskis' script, "Assassins," and I really wanted to do that script. And for whatever reason, no one would see me for it.When the script for "Bound" was sent to us, my agents were pretty clear saying, "Listen, you are not doing this movie. It's a lesbian, and you just played a lesbian." I'm like, "Well, I just played a bisexual person," as we were saying in the day. I said, "That's very different. And who cares? I want to read the script just because I liked those writers."My agents were like, "Well, it's unknown filmmakers. They've never directed before." And I remember saying, "These unknown filmmakers are geniuses. They're visionaries. They're brilliant. I want to work with them."Is it true that you fired your agents over them not wanting you to be in the movie?I mean, "fire" is a harsh word. They said to me very clearly, "We can't represent you if you do this movie. We have other plans for you."I was anxious to show that I was a pretty serious actress. When I read ["Bound"], A, I had never read women's parts like this. And B, the idea of cutting off my hair, cutting off my nails, taking off 20 pounds of this makeup that I've been wearing for months and months… it was 180 degrees from what I had just played. And I just thought, "Wow, the woman gets the girl. She gets the money. She screws over the mob."The movie was way ahead of its time in a lot of ways, particularly in having <a target="_blank" href="https://www.npr.org/2024/06/23/nx-s1-4893210/years-before-intimacy-coordinators-on-hollywood-sets-there-was-the-1996-film-bound">Susie Bright act as a proto-intimacy coordinator</a>.I can't remember if she was on the set or not. She certainly wasn't there with me and Jennifer [Tilly]. I think the Wachowskis were quite clever in that they brought on Susie as they were writing the script, because she was the sexpert in lesbian love, and she's known for that.She wasn't in the traditional sense what an intimacy coordinator is. She wasn't there saying, "Do you feel comfortable with this? Do you feel safe? Move this way."My real direct dealings with Susie were when I was trying to find my look. Coming in, I was so femme — my hair, and my body was like a dancer's body, and I really had to transform myself into the more masculine side of myself, where I'd really been exploiting the feminine side with "Showgirls." So they were like, "Talk to Susie."I flew to San Francisco to have a night on the town with her, and I said, "Take me to these places. I want to find my look. Take me to these lesbian bars." Although when I got there, I can't remember exactly why, but for some reason, she couldn't go out that night. She goes, "So, I'm just going to point you in the right direction." And I remember going, "Wait, you're kidding, right? I'm going to all these places by myself?"But it turned out to be one of those kind of after-hours nights, and one thing led to the other. It was a wild experience, but I came back and I had my Corky. Let's just leave it at that.<h2>On her 'Showgirls' PTSD and why she's come around on the movie</h2><div type="image" title="Gina Gershon in Showgirls" height="1173" width="1877" msid="111521220" hostid="261"></div>You've spoken a lot about "Showgirls" and defended it in recent years. But did you ever fear its reception would derail your career the way that it derailed Elizabeth Berkley's?I had that fear I think from day one.I just watched it again. A friend of mine, Lili Anolik, who is a great journalist and a writer herself, she's like, "You need to come and see this movie and see why people like it." I've just had PTSD with it the whole time, and for several reasons. And seeing it now, I understand it on a bigger level. I can understand why people consciously or unconsciously like it so much.What ["Showgirls" director] Paul [Verhoeven] was trying to do was just revealing the ugliest side of the American dream. And when you're an actress and you're inside of it, all I kept thinking was like, "Oh, my God, I want to do Chekhov. I want to do the Greeks. How did I get here?"And it was really my biggest part in my career. I'd been doing theater, I'd been doing independent films, but I also knew, "Wow, I better be really good in this, or else I'm done." And so I worked on it like any part. And I loved the part when I first read the script. I just stuck to doing the best job I could acting it, because I certainly wasn't directing it, and I wasn't producing it.As a whole, I really appreciate it in the bigger picture now of what he was trying to do.Between "Showgirls" and "Bound," how do you feel about being a queer icon?I think it's pretty awesome. I love it. So many women and girls have come up to me, telling me how [my movies] helped them accept who they were and how it helped them come out because they hadn't seen that represented in a film before, and that makes me feel really great.On the flip side, after having those two roles back to back, did you have any issues with being typecast?I definitely would get a lot of these motorcycle-riding, real tough women murdering men. That's come up quite a bit in my career. Ironically enough, right now another movie of mine is being re-released from 20 years ago, "Prey for Rock &amp; Roll" — where, by the way, I have another super hot girlfriend in that.But for some reason, the best parts I've been offered, they've happened to be lesbian women. Maybe the parts seem better to me!That being said, to me, with "Bound," it wasn't like, "Oh, I'm playing a lesbian." That movie was always about trust. The big themes in that were how do you trust someone again when you've been really screwed over in the past? You have that one really memorable scene in which Matthew McConaughey's character forces your character Sharla to fellate a fried chicken leg. What was it like filming that moment?Years before that movie, the script came to me as a play. And I didn't know ["Killer Joe" playwright] Tracy Letts then, I didn't know his work.I was into the whole thing, and when I got to that chicken bone scene, I really thought, "Wow, I don't know if I could do this eight times a week." I'm pretty tough, but that scene really was like, "Wow." And everyone's like, "No, it's going to be really funny!"So, when the movie version came up, I finally got to meet [director] William Friedkin, who I was already such a huge fan of. I mean, I think I've seen "The Exorcist" maybe at least 100 times.Billy wasn't a guy that says, "Hey, we're going to do a zillion takes." If you ask for take two, he's like, "Why?"But for that particular scene, I remember saying to Billy and to Matthew, "You know what? I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to think about it. We definitely got one big take on this and let's just do it." I didn't want to get into my head because if I thought about it, I don't know. It's such an intense, gnarly scene.To this day, the movie is so compelling and it's so well done, I feel myself getting nauseous as that scene is coming up. And it's the only scene I've ever done in my entire career where I literally have to look away and go, "Is it over?"Luckily, Matthew and I work really well together, and there was obviously a lot of trust between us. And he and I never even talked about it. We never discussed it until a year and a half later. We saw each other at a party. We just kind of looked at each other and he was like, "We really did that scene." I said, "Yeah, we sure did." And we finally talked about it, but I didn't want to think about it, to be honest.Another one of your iconic cult classic roles is in "Face/Off." Is it true that you and Nicolas Cage knew each other in high school before working on that?We never really hung out, but we were in the same high school, so we knew of each other for sure.What was it like working on "Face/Off" together?Nicolas is, as he is so often, just completely brilliant. I was so excited to be working with John Woo… just watching John Woo work.Originally I kept thinking my part was going to get cut out or something. I mean, it wasn't integral to the story. And so I would just come up with scenes like, "Hey, what about this? However, this developing cooperation will not likely result in Abu Dhabi ordering alternative fifth-generation fighters from Beijing.Major General Saleh Mohammed bin Mejren Al Ameri, commander of the UAE's Joint Operations, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.janes.com/amp/uae-seeks-closer-air-force-ties-with-china-as-leaders-meet-in-beijing/ZnlJK3dHVU9mZ28xajRJVkc5dVI5VFp1cVMwPQ2">met</a> with the commander of China's People's Liberation Army Air Force on April 23 to promote closer air force cooperation.The meeting occurred as the UAE's prospects for acquiring F-35s "may be getting slimmer," according to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.defensenews.com/global/mideast-africa/2024/05/01/emirati-f-35-prospects-languish-amid-high-stakes-chinese-us-courting/">one analysis</a>. On the other hand, Abu Dhabi has grown frustrated with American preconditions about the extent of its technical cooperation with China.The UAE ordered 80 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/frances-rafale-fighter-jet-popular-dassault-cant-keep-up-2024-3">Dassault Rafales</a> from France in December 2021. It has also bought 12 L-15 trainer jets from Beijing and participated in a joint air force training exercise in China for <a target="_blank" href="http://eng.mod.gov.cn/xb/News_213114/TopStories/16241137.html">the first time</a> in 2023. Such moves did little to assuage Washington's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-warns-middle-eastern-partners-about-buying-chinese-weapons-2023-8">concerns</a> about expanding defense ties between China and its Arab Gulf allies.Nevertheless, Abu Dhabi's budding ties don't suggest it is replacing its Western military hardware with Chinese alternatives."The main factor to consider here is that, unlike US policymakers, the UAE doesn't see arms purchases from China as a zero-sum deal," Ahmed Aboudouh, associate fellow at Chatham House and head of the China Studies Unit at the Emirates Policy Center, told Business Insider. "Strategic depth in military partnerships takes time to build. I don't see this relationship developing into something similar to what the UAE Air Force has with France or even Russia anytime soon."Roblin pointed out that while the L-15s are "respectable advanced trainers sold at a bargain unit price," they lack the benefit of "common systems" with the F-16 and Rafale jets, which Emirati fighter pilots will eventually graduate to fly. Furthermore, the Emirati air force fighter fleet is already large for such a small country, making it unlikely the L-15s will serve any combat role."So the sale, like the common exercises, serves as a warning signal to the US that the UAE may take its money elsewhere," Roblin said. "Of course, there's a risk of that backfiring and convincing Washington it can't be trusted with more advanced US hardware like the F-35 if ties with China grow too cozy."Aboudouh believes it's "hard to predict" if the UAE might eventually acquire fifth-generation Chinese aircraft."The main factor at play here is the US vision for its military relations with the UAE," Aboudouh said. "In other words, at a time of extensive debate on a US-Saudi defense pact potentially signed soon, the UAE would be interested in a similar deal. Will the US, in turn, deem signing this deal with Abu Dhabi a strategic necessity to curb Abu Dhabi's expanding military cooperation with Beijing?"Roblin also believes the "much-touted" Saudi defense pact could prove pivotal. If the deal is realized and leads to a Saudi F-35 sale, that could "indicate potential" for the UAE finally getting the fifth-generation American aircraft, too, provided it "locks out certain exchanges" with Beijing — such as Chinese radars and aircraft that could expose the F-35's stealth.There is also the salient fact that China hasn't exported any stealth fighters and Beijing will not likely offer the J-20 for export. It will likely sell the export version of its lighter J-35, the FC-31, which Pakistan is reportedly interested in procuring, but those haven't entered operational service yet."The UAE also had a stake in Russia's Su-75 'export stealth fighter' pitched prior to 2022, but it doesn't seem appealing between risks of Western sanctions and Russian mass-production issues related to the war in Ukraine," Roblin said.He suggested South Korea's KF-21 or Turkey's TF Kaan fighter projects could offer "less geopolitically fraught options" to the UAE. The Emirates is already <a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/pauliddon/2023/09/15/uae-reportedly-seeking-role-in-south-koreas-kf-21-fighter-jet-program/">reportedly interested</a> in investing in the KF-21.The UAE would probably not be interested in procuring advanced fourth-generation Chinese fighters either, especially given the enormous Rafale order it just signed.Roblin also questioned why the UAE would buy jets like the J-10 and J-16 from China when it already has access to equivalent or superior Western jets like the F-15EX, F-16V, and, of course, the Rafale."Introducing such Chinese aircraft dependent on different weapons and communication ecosystems would be logistically senseless unless there was a broader project to convert to a Chinese fleet," Robin said."But I'm skeptical the UAE would go all-in in that direction."

"Pretty much any plant, I think of as poisonous because it is to some critter."For example, the California pipevine (Aristolochia californica), which his husband plants, contains aristolochic acids that can cause kidney failure in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6580798/">humans</a>.In fact, in the early '90s, some women taking certain weight loss supplements started experiencing kidney disease. The toxins are "most often used as defenses," he said. "That means that they have the potential to cause harm, at least to some organisms."<h2>From the rainforest to your living room</h2>In his book "Most Delicious Poison" published in October, Whiteman describes a friend who got squirted in the eye with goo from a spurge, a type of euphorbia plant.He'd mistaken it for a relatively harmless cactus until his eye started to burn. The plant had launched latex, which has the potential to lead <a target="_blank" href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/412728">to blindness</a> if left untreated.The plant keeps its latex toxin under pressure so when the toxin-containing cells break, the plant is armed and ready. "It doesn't drip out," Whiteman said, "it shoots out into your face."Luckily, Whiteman's friend made a full recovery and did not lose his vision.<div type="image" title="Euphorbia trigona, a spikey plant that looks like a cactus" height="1500" width="2265" msid="106300829" hostid="261"></div>From the plant's perspective, it's a great defense against herbivores, he said.
