Therefore, it is important to avoid exposing your EV to prolonged high heat, such as parking it under direct sunlight for extended periods, especially in regions where temperatures soar during the summer. Regular maintenance of the battery's cooling system is also critical, as it ensures the battery stays within a safe operating range, preventing overheating and extending the battery's lifespan <h2>Charging and flooding</h2>Another key risk comes from improper charging practices. Overcharging the battery, or using poorly regulated, non-certified charging stations, can cause the battery to overheat. It's crucial that EV owners use certified, high-quality charging stations and follow manufacturer recommendations to avoid overloading the system. Many modern EVs come with software that automatically stops charging once the battery is full, but it’s always a good idea to avoid prolonged charging beyond the battery's capacity. Water exposure can also be hazardous for EVs, particularly in flood-prone areas. While most EVs are designed to handle a fair amount of moisture, saltwater exposure, such as during coastal floods, can create serious problems. I wasn't scared as I don't have a business to worry about and live on the fifth floor of my building.But I was and still am worried about those affected and the innocent lives being lost. But that did not happen in Valencia.<h2 id="24b81fb8-4f22-4359-a97e-6f0760015239">Worse than Hurricane Milton</h2>I remember watching the news of Hurricane Milton hitting Florida last month and how Floridians were preparing for it.Residents boarded up their windows with large wooden panels; store owners were getting ready for it, and people evacuated.The Tampa mayor even urged people to leave and said that anyone who stayed would die.After Hurricane Milton, there <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce3zdg2wlvqo#:~:text=One%20of%20at%20least%20a,died%20across%20the%20US%20state.">were at least 16 deaths.</a> Meanwhile, here in Valencia, it's already about 10 times as many.The Spanish Meteorological Agency had issued an <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.antena3.com/noticias/el-tiempo/actualidad/dana-valencia-que-pasaron-mas-10-horas-alerta-aemet-aviso-moviles-alert_20241031672370a3d058410001ca758c.html">alert days before</a> the storm. But on Tuesday, nothing happened. There was absolute calm in the morning. People were going to work and to university. When the local alerts came, the storm was already happening.<h2 id="27ab23b6-b666-4dce-ada9-fd22df28f8fa">A wake-up call</h2>Undoubtedly, human errors were made. I've never seen anything like it.In a country like Spain, with the means, agencies, and intelligence we have, it is horrible that this happened.At a certain point, authorities were saying 50 dead, then 60, then 70, then 90. To me, that doesn't sound like much. I believe that when the waters recede and the mud clears, more dead bodies will be found.

The company already uses its AI model to provide real-time flooding predictions for local businesses and authorities, pinpointing at-risk areas, according to the BBC.The company's founder Jonas Borland told the outlet that the model can predict up to seven days before a catastrophic weather event."All of this data takes into account where the water will flow, and where it will create problems," he said. "We can tell you that in five days you will have 50 cm of water at your entrance, and we can tell you when it will subside."Torland told the outlet that donations and funding for the model have increased recently as awareness of flood risks has become more commonplace.<h2>Big names</h2>Neara, a London-based infrastructure modeling platform, uses AI to make digital simulations of floods that help electricity networks prepare for and respond to water damage, The BBC reported. Meanwhile, the University of Iowa also has an AI model called Flood AI.Even Google has gotten in on the AI game, providing river flood warnings across more than 80 countries with its Flood Hub platform, which launched in the UK and the US earlier this year."Floods are one of the most devastating natural disasters, and impact hundreds of millions people per year," Yossi Matias, vice president of engineering and research and crisis response lead at Google, told the BBC "We really want to let people know before floods actually hit them."The system uses satellite images to make pictures of rivers and nearby terrain, which AI then uses to predict how rivers could flood following rainfall.Flood Hub researchers told the BBC that the system could send a warning anywhere from two to seven days before devastating weather hits.In 2021 alone, Google sent 115 million flood alert messages to 23 million people, the company wrote in a <a target="_blank" href="https://sponsored.bloomberg.com/article/google-sustainability/How-AI-Is-Helping-Communities-Anticipate-Floods?sref=yaJhKSOh">sponsored Bloomberg article.</a>According to the BBC, AI models are especially helpful in places with limited historical weather data."The nature of these global models is they can actually learn from experiences happening in other rivers where you have more data and more historical experience, Matias told the BBC.But AI models aren't a perfect solution, Amy McGovern, a computer scientist at the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology, told the outlet. They are only as good as the data they collect; places that don't have a history of severe flooding, remain at risk as artificial intelligence races to gather enough information to predict the outcome of rare heavy rains there.

But for Ukraine, a key partner is having trouble keeping up and letting rivals fill the void.American-made drones haven't excelled on the battlefield, prompting Ukraine to turn to buying Chinese-made drones.The problems with many US-made drones, particularly some of the smaller ones, are that they often don't function as advertised or planned and easily glitch when targeted by Russian jamming, sources <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/world/how-american-drones-failed-to-turn-the-tide-in-ukraine">told The Wall Street Journal</a>.They are fragile and vulnerable to electronic warfare.
