A news report by the Economic Times has confirmed thatBengaluru-based eCommerce giant Flipkart is hiring another top engineer from Google, highlighting a trend among the country's fast-growing companies to tap into <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword> for talent to bolster their technology fronts. 
 Sources have informed the financial daily that Peeyush Ranjan, a senior engineering director at Google, will join Flipkart's commerce division led by <keyword id="705865" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mukesh-Bansal">Mukesh Bansal</keyword> in a key role. 
 This is nothing new, since the company had hired another Google <keyword id="2796851" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="engineering-leader">engineering leader</keyword>, <keyword id="278552" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Punit-Soni">Punit Soni</keyword> as a <keyword id="2796852" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="chief-product-officer-in-the-same-division">chief product officer in the same division</keyword> last month. Soni will join Flipkart this month and Ranjan likely in May. Motorola enters the flagship segment in India with the Edge+ smartphone

India’s ecommerce giant <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> is in acquiring mode. The intention is to be an online market where each and everything under the sun will be available for grab. And how to achieve so? 
 
Well, as per a news report in The Economic Times, Flipkart is scouting for more mobile-focused companies to acquire this year, both for their technology and employees, as it looks to build capabilities that it expects will give it an edge over rivals. 
 "Overall, we feel that the startup ecosystem is growing very rapidly and most innovation is on the mobile platform, so we are very actively looking at every opportunity for talent purposes," Mukesh Bansal, head of Flipkart's commerce platform and chief executive of its fashion arm <keyword id="319719" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Myntra">Myntra</keyword> told the ET. 
 As per the ET report, Flipkart has bought mobile marketing automation platform Appiterate for an undisclosed sum last month. In March, it acquired mobile ad network AdIQuity, and in January, bought a stake in auctions startup <keyword id="2849071" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="WeHive-Technologies">WeHive Technologies</keyword>. 
 
Sachin Bansal, group CEO of Flipkart and the head of its newly carved advertising business, told the financial daily, the company will begin advertising on Myntra's mobile app in a few months. "We are thinking of native and video advertising on the mobile and are experimenting with that," he said. "Banners and all don't work well on mobile."

The six-day event will have local artisans and weavers selling their goods online for the very first time. The only thing is, customers looking to buy mobile phones or electronic devices will have to wait an extra day. The sale in those categories will start a day later, on 30 September 2019. Flipkart has also promised that ‘top brands’ will be launching new products specifically for the sale. But, it has yet to disclose which brands and which products. "This year, more than ever, we are partnering with brands, MSMEs, sellers, and artisans to deliver unparalleled selection and user experience to our consumers," stated Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO of Flipkart Group. <keyword id="8090210" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="big-billion-days-offers">Big billion days offers</keyword> Flipkart Plus consumers will get early access to the sale four hours before it opens up to the rest. Flipkart is also offering financing options for customers through Cardless Credit and Flipkart PayLater. In order to meet demand, Flipkart has grown its supply chain and doubled the number of pincodes where it can deliver. The online shopping platform and its sellers are <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/flipkart-and-its-sellers-told-not-to-offer-goqii-products/articleshow/69530640.cms">banned from selling GOQii</a> products — a Ratan Tata backed smart wear brand — on the site, for the foreseeable future because of deep discounting. This is as per an interim order by the Bombay Civil Court. Earlier, Flipkart had deemed GOQii’s claims to be <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/internet/flipkart-goqii-battle-on-pricing-intensifies/69511518">baseless</a> when the fitness brand reached out the Department of Promotion of Industrial and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) with concerns over how its products were being sold online at discounts of up to 70-80%. The tech giant was actually waiting for India’s new government to come into power to seek clarifications around the rules. But, considering that the Bombay Civil Court ruling didn’t play in Flipkart’s favour — the company will now also be under DPIIT and CCI’s radar, for flouting their norms. Deep discounts, deep trouble Vishal Gondal, the founder and CEO of GOQii, sent legal notices to Flipkart over the issue. The Bombay Civil Court passed an interim order to prevent any more damage to the fitness gadget firm, from excessive discounts.

Flipkart's continued deep discounting could mean more trouble in the future

New Delhi, Jan 10 () Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) on Friday announced the launch of a customer experience centre (CEC) in Bengaluru to offer IoT solutions to customers and partners from across industries. 
 The CEC is part of the USD 500 million investment into India announced by HPE in July last year.
 Built on a 20,000 sq ft area, the centre will provide customers globally with access to IoT technologies to develop sophisticated solutions across agriculture, automotive, healthcare, intelligent manufacturing, security, smart cities, smart grid and smart transportation, a statement said.
 "IoT is already enabling a wide range of critical services across areas including healthcare, smart cities, and transportation...This facility will help our customers and partners harness the benefits of edge computing, which is increasingly moving computational tasks to where the data is being generated," HPE India MD Som Satsangi said.

 After consumer durables, Flipkart's private brand 'MarQ by Flipkart' has forayed into computing space with the launch of Intel-powered laptops.
 The 'Falkon Aerbook' series of laptops will be priced Rs 39,990 onwards and will be available on Flipkart from January 17, a statement said.
 "...MarQ by Flipkart is branching out to laptops to address the gaps between customer desires and current offerings," it added.
 Flipkart said after analysing millions of customer reviews and studying the market, it recognised consumer demand for sleeker and light form factors. 
 "This reflects the current demand trends based on advancements in processor and battery technologies. With this market shift in mind, MarQ by Flipkart, together with Intel and Microsoft, are looking to address this segment, keeping in mind the requirements of today's users," the statement said.

 E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal on Friday said it plans to add 5,000 manufacturer-sellers on its platform this year. 
 "In the last one year, many manufacturers of daily use products like steel and copper utensils, kitchen gadgets like juicers and atta dough makers and fashion accessories like watches and wallets have started to sell online directly on Snapdeal, bypassing the traditional structure of selling through wholesalers and retailers," a statement said. 
 The fast growth of the online market, especially in the non-metro centres, is allowing these manufacturers to tap a new set of always-connected customers, which traditional retail structures cannot capture, it added. 
 "Snapdeal plans to add another 5000 such manufacturer-sellers on its platform over the next 12 months. It expects most of these manufacturers to join from India's production hubs like Meerut, Ludhiana, Tirupur, Jaipur, Panipat, Surat, Rajkot etc," it said. SR RVK

There was a time when start-ups were considered to be the next big thing, but seems like slowly and steadily, they are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Startup-Bubble-Burst-in-IndiaCorporateGossip/articleshow/50591251.cms">losing their thunder</a>. Senior-level executives who had joined start-ups in that wave have now come back to their traditional, established companies and conglomerates, and several others are thinking of doing the same.

Similarly, Suvomoy Sarkar from Ola left the transport aggregator start-up to join Sears Holdings Corporation as head of the India analytics centre in April this year. 
 
Manish Maheshwari, who was associated with e-commerce start-up Flipkart, has now joined Network 18 digital as its CEO, and Vikas Ahuja left his post as Myntra’s Chief Marketing Officer to join The Oberoi Group. 
 
Some other names are Aparna Ballakur, who joined PayU as VP-HR after her stint with Flipkart as Chief People Officer; Deepak Menon, who joined Microsoft after leaving Jabong; and Vikram Dasu, the now CEO of Avenue Ecommerce Ltd - Dmart, who left HomeShop18.
