I understood the beginning, middle, and end. It was OK. I was just so tickled to be invited to be part of that world as someone who strives to bring beauty and balance to a world that's lacking of both.Both of those aspects are very prevalent with your character. Was there a highlight in this whole journey?Everything was a highlight. On my downtime, I would just wander around the studio and find these little pockets where they store things and just got to see these incredible masks and props in their resting state. I honestly thought I was in "The Mandalorian," but I figured it out when I finally got to set. Frankly, I don't care. I was just happy to be there. Now they must have had a lot of trust in you because you got all your scripts upfront. That's rare. Actors in these projects often get them along the way.And not only that, I would call and email with Dave and ask things, make suggestions. There were all kinds of discussions about my character. They were very open.Can you recall a note you gave that made it into the show?In the original script, my employees referred to me as "master." I felt in this world I'm creating in my establishment, The Sanctuary, given that I've come from an enslaved people, perhaps we can choose better language — something that was more in line with her ethos and vision of her place. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Jerry Bruckheimer hasn't even seen "Beverly Hills Cop III," says director Mark Molloy.</li><li>Molloy, the director of Netflix's "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," told BI he focused on paying tribute to the first two movies.</li></ul>When director Mark Molloy signed on to direct "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," the fourth movie in the beloved action comedy franchise starring Eddie Murphy, he had to admit something to the franchise's producer Jerry Bruckheimer."I said to him, 'Jerry, I've never seen the third one,'" Molloy recalled to Business Insider, referring to 1994's "Beverly Hills Cop III." "Jerry told me, 'You don't need to watch that one. I didn't make the third one. I've never watched it.'"The first movie, "Beverly Hills Cop," came out in 1984 and turned Murphy into one of the biggest box-office draws in the world. Nite Moves owner Stephen Dick says a tax on a freedom of expression like lap dancing violates the First Amendment. Dick petitioned the Supreme Court to hear his case after New York's highest court ruled lap dancing <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/24/nyregion/new-york-court-upholds-the-taxation-of-lap-dances.html">shouldn't get the same tax-exempt status</a> as ballet or Broadway dancing.
To make his case, Dick hired <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Corn-Revere">Robert Corn-Revere</a>, a nationally recognized free speech lawyer who defended CBS after the flap involving Janet Jackson's exposed nipple during a Super Bowl half-time show.
Their Supreme Court petition argues that taxing lap dances and not other types of dance amounts to “content-based discrimination.” From the petition, <a href="http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2013/aug/10/strip-club-owner-take-tax-fight-supreme-court/">courtesy of The Daily Gazette</a>:
It is difficult to overstate the threat to free expression posed by the government’s misuse of power to levy taxes based on the content of speech or the identity of the speaker. The [Court of Appeals decision] disregards such concerns and embraces the notion that the government should be allowed to impose higher taxes, or selectively give tax breaks, based on its estimation of the relative ‘value’ of the speech.
When New York's highest court handed down its decision back in October, three out of seven justices thought that lap dancing should not be taxed. One of those justices, Robert Smith, acknowledged that he found stripping “distasteful,” according to <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/24/nyregion/new-york-court-upholds-the-taxation-of-lap-dances.html">The New York Times</a>. 
“Perhaps for similar reasons, I do not read Hustler magazine; I would rather read The New Yorker. I would be appalled, however, if the state were to exact from Hustler a tax that The New Yorker did not have to pay, on the ground that what appears in Hustler is insufficiently ‘cultural and artistic,’” he wrote. “That sort of discrimination on the basis of content would surely be unconstitutional.”

Strip Club Owner Brings Epic Free Speech Fight Over Lap Dance Taxes To The US Supreme Court

Earlier this year, Netflix <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/netflix-lost-2000-streaming-videos-2013-5">removed the ability to find out what is expiring from its extensive archives</a>, which means avid binge-watchers only have a few more days to catch up on some essential shows and movies. While most of these titles will vanish between January 1 and January 4, Netflix will take early action and remove some titles like "Transformers: Dark of The Moon" on December 29.

Rachel Tolzman: I love this part [laughs] where she's like, "What if you don't have muscles to do that?" And then she's like, "All girls have the muscles to do this." My name is Rachel Tolzman, and I'm a professional pole <keyword id="206" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dancer">dancer</keyword>. I've been pole dancing for probably around eight years, and I've competed internationally and won a bunch of prestigious titles. And today I'm going to be critiquing some iconic pole-dancing scenes in several movies. "Closer" (2004) OK, so she's doing, like, a proper, like, back hook spin there. Underarm turn. Then it kind of cuts out, and I notice we only see, like, the top half of the body, and we don't see what's going on in the bottom half. I think they make them look more skilled with the camera angles that they choose. That hand change at the end was a little bit rocky. With the top hand, she doesn't move through the twisty-grip position and then back naturally to a true-grip position. Like, I think she leaves her hand position, like, in her wrist, in the same kind of formation, and gets, like, stuck there at the end and then has to quickly change it, so it's not very fluid. So, there are several competitions out there that are highly regulated, like the International Pole Sports Federation. They send you a booklet full of tricks, with the pictures of the tricks and how many points are allotted to that trick and how you have to do it and how long you have to hold that specific position for. That's, like, very highly technical and maybe more sport-like, whereas there are other competitions that are more theatrical in nature. So that requires you to also be a good storyteller, good actress, a very good dancer as well. Like, a seven out of 10. 7.5. "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" (2017) So, definitely this is not Rihanna. [laughs] When she does the whole kind of pass on the pole, she does a, well, that's called a flying K. And she's doing it in heels, so that's pretty cool. And then she hooks her outside leg, and then switches to an inside leg hang, and then kind of reaches back. That's called an allegra, when she reaches behind the pole and grabs the other leg, and she's trying to extend it even further. So it also shows, like, some flexibility there. That's just a fan kick. So, starting from the inside leg to the outside leg. It takes quite a lot of work to hoist your leg up like that, that first move she does, the flying K. And then to have the confidence to do it on spin pole. So, poles can either be fixed, like, static, or they can be spinning, so that just a mechanism at the bottom is released, and the pole rotates. If you compete, then you are expected to do some of your passes on static pole and some of your other elements on spin. Mainly if you're doing any sort of, like, backflips or things like that, you're gonna be doing it on a fixed pole. So you'd be doing it on the static one. Eight out of 10. Almost at an advanced level. "Hustlers" (2019) What an entrance. Like, she's [laughs] already, like, approaching the stage and the pole with such confidence. So, she goes into, like, a basic spin that everybody learns when they begin pole, so it's a chair spin, and then she goes into, like, a back hook. And body waves. I mean, she has this down, you know. [laughs] Body rolls. Front-hook spin, maybe fish-hook spin, I can't really tell 'cause they cut off her legs. Now it's, like, a fairy sit, and coming down. Oh, here's where she inverts, and that's really actually quite great. However, she does use her outside leg to kind of hoist herself up on the pole, but, I mean, it's amazing, what she does. Sliding down on the pole is a little bit like... I don't know, like how she was taught to come down, but it looks very nice. Actually, so, she's crossing her legs almost like a hang back. However, it's sort of like a mix between a hang back and a crucifix, because she's keeping her inside shoulder in front of the pole. If you can't come down from an invert in, like, a forwards position, in a controlled way, then it kind of looks kind of clunky. And that just requires more strength and probably more time than she had to prepare for this role. But she actually does invert, so that's pretty cool. There are so many dollar bills. I'm like, I'm pretty sure that that never really happens, that you have, like, that amount of money being thrown at you. [laughs] I mean, I think more people would be doing it otherwise, you know? Ramona: Hold on with that knee. Destiny: OK. Rachel: I really, really like this scene, because it does actually kind of showcase somebody, like, learning the very first basic moves in pole. How you can hook your legs on the pole, how can you hook your ankle on the pole. We sort of have, like, a common vocabulary in the pole world with names of tricks. Some of them vary slightly, depending on where you are. Ramona: Here you could do a carousel. Rachel: So, I would call this a chair spin. To me, a carousel spin is when your hips are actually facing the pole the whole time in the spin, whereas the chair spin, you're spinning to the side and you're basically parallel to the pole as you go around. Ramona: Go into a fairy sit. Rachel: Fairy sit, yeah. Ramona: Stag. Rachel: Well, so, we call this a stag, or double stag, or sun wheel as well. Here she does a, I would say that's a layout, not a tabletop, but [laughs]. Destiny: What if you don't have muscles to do that? [laughs] Rachel: Where she's like, "What if you don't have muscles to do that?" And then she's like, "All girls have the muscles to do this." Like, it's just so, it's a lovely moment, I think, that they showcase here in this scene, because this is just like the typical journey that everyone takes when they start learning pole. And, you know, she has these probably 7-inch heels on, so she's already starting from an elevated point on the floor, so when she does do the two climbs, it looks like she's quite high. The viewer probably may come to a realization, "Oh, wow, well actually this is really, like, can be very technical and is a lot of hard work." I would give a nine out of 10. "Date Night" (2010) I think they're purposely doing a really poor job [laughs] of anything pole-related. There's a competition called Pole Theatre, and there's a comedic category, so you can enter and do something funny like this, and the purpose is to make people laugh, so. They're trying to do body waves here, but they're doing, like, these strange undulations. [laughs] This is like, very poor example of, like, "Magic Mike." The hand position is always so weird. Like, why would anyone grab here? I would not advise licking the pole. Yeah, that's kinda gross. [laughs] Like, a 1.5. Yeah. Sorry, Steve. "Powder Blue" (2008) The arching back, I mean, it's so common in some of these clips. It's just, like, throwing yourself in a backbend. Like, OK. This, I was really impressed with. It's kind of like a box split that she's sliding down into, so she has great flexibility. Her back hook spin is really nice and really fluid at the end where she kind of, kind of does, like, a little arch up. And here is where she's doing an invert, and she comes into, like, almost like a caterpillar climb, like, body wave. First you invert, you go upside down, you go into what's called a crucifix. So, that means your legs are above your head. And then you proceed to climb the pole upside down. And the reason why it's called a caterpillar is because you're kind of, like, if you go up the pole like that, it kind of looks like a little bit of a wave, like a little worm or a little caterpillar going up. Yeah, she's not moving with the climb, she's just holding with in between her knees. And there's not a lot going on, but the elements that do happen, I mean, it's, like, a seven. "Americano" (2011) Little bit of sassy kind of, like, hip movement. This is definitely, I think, along the lines of more of a <keyword id="38380" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="striptease">striptease</keyword>, burlesque, rather than anything pole. There was sort of a step around. Pole dance can be so many different things. It is, I think it is an art form. I think it is a sport as well. So, one could argue that this is just highlighting kind of one aspect or one side of the pole world. The thing that comes to people's mind the most when they instantly think of pole, if they don't know otherwise, maybe they kind of assume that it is something that belongs in the exotic world. The art form evolved from different forms, coming from India and China first. So, we have men on poles doing acrobatic tricks and jumping from pole to pole. And so you have that element, but then, of course, the more burlesque kind of side of pole evolved in circuses and circus tents and ladies, you know, dancing around the pole, and then, you know, doing a little burlesque act. And so that's kind of where that side of pole originated. She's very believable as that kind of character. But technically, maybe like a two. So. [laughs] "Showgirls" (1995) For some reason, reminds me a little bit of "Flashdance," but it's not as nice, you know. [laughs] It's like...[laughs] That was so bad. Sorry, I don't mean any disrespect to the actress. But, like, basically looks like she was trying to do a fireman spin. A fireman spin is where you have the pole, like, in between the thighs, and your feet are pointed towards your bum. But it's just like, she just, like, jumps onto the pole. First teaching people how to do spins and basic things, I was like, "No jumping." [laughs] You're not allowed to just kind of jump onto the pole. And then a very aggressive striptease. Some sort of, like, step-around spin. More licking the pole! [laughs] This is the worst. That one, like, little turn she does with her leg out to the side, it looks quite nice. I think that's the best move she does here. I would give her an A for effort, but [laughs] I would probably, 4.5. "Rock of Ages" (2012) Well, it is highly choreographed, first of all. Kind of jazzy elements in it, and also, oh, there, like, Latin dance. Like, ballroom. [laughs] The heels on the poles. I don't know, it just kinda reminds me of something like Fosse. I don't know why, like... yeah, just the clacking of the heels, and then the stomping. Then some acro tricks. OK, so these guys now are doing proper handsprings. So, that's what that move is called. And they're just hanging up there in, like, a pike position or something. nd then they do, like, a little middle split leap. I love it. Nice, dramatic ending, just with some amazing, like, camera work and camera angles, because she's not doing much. Seven out of 10, yeah. "The Wrestler" (2008) OK, so she does do something quite technical there, and has, like, a proper grip, called, like, a bracket grip. So, the outside arm is kind of across, and the bottom hand is low. And she goes into a move called cradle and opens up to, that split is called jamilla. So, yeah, that's actually pretty technical. And I wonder if it is her that did this, or a dance double, or... it's definitely a skill that requires a bit of strength to do, so. Based off of that little, little section, like, that little move, I would say maybe six out of 10, 'cause it's not bad. "Riverdale" (2017) Yeah, I've never seen this before, actually. This combination of striptease and singing a very kind of emo song. And then, yeah, there is, like, the random pole in the background, and she takes a few walks around the pole. There's an underarm turn, OK. The arms right now are kind of in, like, a shoulder mount position, so someone must have, I don't know, maybe she thought that up on her own, but maybe someone kind of directed her to do that. Producer: Like, it's a little bit hammy, isn't it? Rachel: It is really hammy, yeah. [laughs] I never use that word, but yeah, it's cheesy. Yeah, I would say cheesy. I'm not gonna mark it as low as, what was that, "Date Night"? [laughs] Because she actually did, like, an underarm turn. OK, so we'll give it a two out of 10. As an international bon vivant, hopefully I have put something in here for everyone – well almost everyone. If you’re going to a hockey game, it’s time to look for a new boss because it means he’s at the bottom of the food chain and there’s no point hitching your wagon to that star. 
Regular season hockey games are for analysts and sh---y brothers-in-law. On a trading floor, it’s almost impossible to even give the tickets away. But then again, we work in legitimate cities with real sports. So if you are in Detroit, feel free to disregard. But if that’s the case, you need a completely different set of survival tips right about now anyway.
Going to a sporting event with your boss (and presumably clients and colleagues) is a complicated, nuanced, and often conflicting minefield to navigate. If it was so easy, then everybody would work at <keyword id="6361649" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Goldman-Sachs">Goldman Sachs</keyword>.
To the point:
1. If it’s a weeknight, wear what you wore to the office. If you show up in skinny jeans, you’re obviously not busy enough. If you are at a Miami Heat game, wear whatever you want because you don’t have a respectable, IRS-abiding job anyway.
2. No photos. No tweets. No Facebook posts. Act like you’ve been there before.
3. Bring a date, but not if she’s needy or insecure. (Odds are that she is.) First of all, most girls aren’t huge sports fans to begin with. But more importantly, she’s going to feel like a 3rd wheel when you’re talking with clients, colleagues, or your boss. And if you prioritize coddling her, you are going to look like an unprofessional d---head.
4. Stop checking your Blackberry. You both know that your boss is more important than you are, so if he’s not checking his, why the hell do you need to check yours? It can wait.
5. Don’t wear a jersey… unless it’s a fútbol match.
6. If it’s a big game, and you’re on club/box level, do a lap. You never know who you might see… unless it’s a Mets game; no one gives a f--k about Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann.
7. If a work rival is there, get him wasted and convince him that the drinks girl working the suite wants to b--g him.
8. Remember, in 50 years, no one will watch baseball. It was invented when there was absolutely nothing else to do. So be mentally prepared to make 4 hours of conversation.
9. While passion is a good thing, if you didn’t have a poster above your bunk bed as a kid, stay neutral. No one likes a poser, and only Asian kids can get away with conveniently being ‘diehard’ Manchester United or New York Yankees fans.
10. If it’s a cricket match (The Ashes?), don’t go unless you understand the sport. Chances are, if your boss is there, he loves it. And not even Meryl Streep could pretend to enjoy that sport.
11. Clients come first. Keep it professional. Usually, they leave early, and if they don’t, it means they have a free pass for the night. In which case, you are required to show them a good time. Don’t bother saving the Flashdancers receipt (Matt Defusco?); just expense the next three “date nights” at Jean-Georges.
12. Bring a joke. But don’t use it unless someone else tells a joke first.
13. Don’t be a sports d----e. Nothing is worse than canned, feigned sports knowledge. “Lampard saved the day, but I still don’t understand why Mourinho went with the 4-4-2.” F--k off.
14. If you’re at Wimbledon, do not drink Pimm’s. You don’t want to be that guy who passes out on the tube home with grass stains on his trousers.

16. Talk about work when prompted, but otherwise, this is a chance to showcase your personality and find a connection. Seriously, it’s not that hard: travel, cars, wine, family, and sports. But drop the wannabe trader-speak and avoid saying “yours” every time some d------bag (Vinay Jayaram?) mentions Duke.
17. If you are the office rock star, wear the latest outfit from the John Daly collection. When you get to Arthur Ashe Stadium, tell everyone you thought it was the US Open at Bethpage.

Made up of the likes of Robert Altman, Woody Allen, Michael Cimino, and William Friedkin (to just name a few), these filmmakers had differing levels of success, but they attained legendary status by bringing a more adult, sobering storytelling to movie theaters in an era absorbed by&#xa0;the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement.A few known as the "Movie Brats" managed to create works that would redefine how generations of filmmakers work, and how we see movies now.&#xa0;Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and Brian De Palma were the five core members. They quickly formed a close bond and pushed each other to&#xa0;make movies that audiences had never seen before. And they did, with&#xa0;"Jaws" (Spielberg), "Star Wars" (Lucas), "The Godfather" ("Coppola), "Taxi Driver" (Scorsese), and "Carrie" (De Palma).De Palma was the glue of the group.Looked up to thanks to his film-school success (often casting a&#xa0;young Robert De Niro), De Palma was never shy to give his opinion. I've known Noah for 20 years. Jake I met 10 years ago and we used to get together - because we all live in the same neighborhood - for dinner once a week.BI: Do you guys still do that?De Palma: Oh, yeah. It's like a directors' group at dinner and we would tell our various war stories and what we're working on. Then Noah and Jake were interested in this new digital camera and they wanted to do some tests for it. And having talked about various experiences over many years we decided that I would sit down in Jake's living room and Jake operated the camera and Noah monitored the sound and they would just ask me questions, basically saying what we had talked about over dinner. It was very informal. They had no idea what they were going to do with it. We shot it for a whole week.BI: And were you thinking, "These are just&#xa0;shooting tests, I can say anything."De Palma: Yeah, absolutely.BI: But suddenly they came to you and said, "We want to make this into a movie"?De Palma: No. The interviews were taken five years ago and in their moviemaking schedules they had time and decided they wanted to do something with it. And that's what they did.&#xa0;BI: This sounds very similar to what you were involved with in the 1970s, building a community of directors - Scorsese, Coppola, Lucas, Spielberg.&#xa0;De Palma: That's very true.&#xa0;BI: There's never been a competitiveness with other directors?De Palma: People have always asked that, but even with our group in the '70s, as successful as those directors were, there was never a competitiveness. It's kind of odd. We were young directors trying to get into the Hollywood system on some level and we all basically met at Warner Bros., and all had disastrous experiences, which I guess bound us together for life. We used to hang out together in Hollywood. We were young men. Going out to dinner together. I miss that. I remember going to the premiere of "Goodfellas," so that was the '90s, and by then we were beginning to disperse. We were going into different areas and weren't that close anymore, in the sense of calling each other up and saying, "Let's go have dinner." I missed that and that's when I went and assembled this next group.BI: Did you ever find yourself competing for projects with&#xa0;them?De Palma: Not really. I don't think we ever competed for projects because Steven was off in his own world and George was making "Star Wars" movies. It's interesting, some of them, like Francis, were very interested in making studios.BI: Did Francis want you involved with American Zoetrope [the studio Coppola attempted to make]?De Palma: Marty [Scorsese] and I went and saw Zoetrope. I remember seeing the flatbed editing machines. Marty and I went because Marcia Lucas [George Lucas' wife at the time] was editing Marty's movie. She edited "Taxi Driver" [she was a supervising film editor]. So we went up and stayed with George. But what Francis was doing wasn't for me.&#xa0;<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5751aedf52bcd05c658c699c-2051/movie%20brats%20mark%20j.%20terrill.jpg" alt="movie brats Mark J. Terrill/AP(L-R) Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg.</img></div></div></div>BI: In 2007, Lucas, Coppola, and Spielberg introduced the best director Oscar, which went to Scorsese. Why weren't you also onstage with them?De Palma: Yeah, that's interesting. You know, Vanity Fair wanted to do a picture of the five of us at one point in one of their Hollywood issues, and I was shooting a movie in Europe so I wasn't going to fly back to take this picture. I said, "No thank you."&#xa0;BI: But seeing Scrosese's friends handing him his first Oscar, it was puzzling to me that you weren't there.&#xa0; De Palma: I was always the anti-establishment member of the group. I've never been nominated for an Oscar, I've never worked within the Hollywood establishment on any level. I made a lot of people very mad.BI: But at the same time wealthy.De Palma: Absolutely. We all made a lot of money. But I left the whole system and went to Europe after "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183523/?ref_=nv_sr_1" target="_blank">Mission to Mars.</a>" I started making movies that were internationally financed. So I really left the Hollywood system completely. Steven is obviously in it, Francis is financing his own films, and George left completely.&#xa0;BI: Have you talked to George since he sold Lucasfilm? Is he content with stepping away?De Palma: I only know what Steven says. I think he misses it to some extent. Steven sees a lot more of George than I do. He went and sold his franchise to Disney and it's something he so carefully cultivated for so many decades so I don't know, I think he does miss it.&#xa0;BI: One thing that grabbed me in the documentary was your openness about your relationship with your father [who was never around during De Palma's youth and, the director says, cheated on his mother with other women]. Do you think the stories you tell are based on your feelings toward him?De Palma: Well, we're all a product of our upbringing to some extent. But my older brother was very influential too because he sort of represents that egomaniac that appears in many of my movies. My father was basically a very hardworking orthopedic surgeon, very much involved in his work. Whatever happened between he and my mother by the time I was born, they were at odds with each other and just hung in there until I went to college, basically. So it's interesting, the times I spent with my father I can count on one hand. I remember going to see a John Wayne Western with him.BI: Which one?De Palma: "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052902/?ref_=nv_sr_2" target="_blank">The Horse Soldiers.</a>" That's about it.&#xa0;BI: But in "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079302/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_22" target="_blank">Home Movies,</a>" the character Denis peeps on his father, which you say is based on you confronting your father with a knife and accusing him of adultery. Did doing that scene close a chapter in your relationship with him?De Palma: I actually approached it as a comedy. A bizarre comedy. It all happened, but by the time I made the movie I saw the absurd aspects to it. BI: Anything you regret saying in "De Palma"?De Palma: No, because when you're talking&#xa0;with people about experiences in show business, whether they are actors, directors, cinematographers, they are usually extremely careful because they want to work again.&#xa0;BI: I experience that on a daily basis.De Palma: Right, as you know trying to get an interview where someone says something negative about anybody is very difficult. I'll never forget an actor talking about working with another actor and they did the interview at an old-age home. They were like, "How did you like working with so-and-so?" And he said, "He was awful. He was just impossible." So that's how I went about this, a candid look at what it's really like.&#xa0;<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5751b0d391058425008c69c9-529/wise%20guys%20mgm.jpg" alt="wise guys mgm" data-mce-source="MGM">MGM"Wise Guys."</img></div></div></div>BI: The projects you turned down - "Fatal Attraction," "Flashdance," "Taxi Driver" - do you regret not taking any of those?De Palma: Boy, that's a hard question to answer. I think Adrian [Lyne] did a very good job with "Fatal Attraction." Now a movie I wish I hadn't done was "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092226/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_16" target="_blank">Wise Guys.</a>" The studio changed their minds and didn't want to make it, they just wanted us to go away. I should have just taken my money and walked instead of dealing with a studio that didn't want to make the movie.BI: Legend has it you were very hard on George the first time he showed you guys "Star Wars."De Palma: That is not correct. [Laughs] I am sarcastic. I am considered the class clown, but a sarcastic clown. So I would make fun of certain things. Because everyone would take this stuff too seriously.BI: So you were just messing with him about not liking the opening crawl?De Palma: No, the crawl didn't make any sense at all. And I kept kidding him about the Force. I was like, "What is the Force?" [Laughs] But you have to understand, we used to look at each other's movies in order to be helpful. We might say some things that weren't nice. You know, I remember reading an account where Marcia [Lucas] was very upset with me. And I don't remember this, but there was an account where Marcia told me, "You've hurt George's feelings and you should be gentle with him." I don't remember that, I really don't know what they're talking about, I was basically myself. The thing the guys could always count on with me is I would say what I thought. I wasn't holding back. I remember having a big discussion with Steven about "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075860/?ref_=nv_sr_1" target="_blank">Close Encounters.</a>" There were some sections I thought didn't work. And this was considered a crowning success of his career. And I was was like, "I don't know, this doesn't really work for me." [Laughs]BI: Do you remember a part that didn't work for you?De Palma: I don't remember. But I remember going to a screening up on 55th street and afterward going to him and saying, "I don't know, Steven." But I think we have to do that, and I do it with Noah and Jake and these directors.
