The data it collects will help organisations globally to detect, monitor and predict global phenomena in real-time. “The data from Pixxel’s satellite will be used to solve some of humanity’s most pressing problems today such as flagging pest infestations and crop diseases in time, detecting forest fires early, talking air and water pollution levels, detecting oil spills and gas leaks and mapping large scale geological changes among other things,” said Awais in a statement. The Bengaluru-based satellite imaging startup had joined hands with NewsSpace India Limited (<keyword id="7835598" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nsil">NSIL</keyword>) — the commercial arm of ISRO — after the Modi administration announced new space reforms in 2020. That included asteroid mining, for example, and when we investigated that, we found hyperspectral imaging was the imaging tech that would enable us to map these asteroids as to whether they contain these metals or these minerals. Indian spacetech startup Pixxel gets $7.3 million in funding as it announces a new product even before the launch of its first satellite

Besides 4G, WiFi market is next on the leading telecom operators’ minds. And three prominent brands, which are trying to outdo each other in the WiFi space are: <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>, <keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword> and <keyword id="10926" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword>. 
 Surprisingly, two anonymous sources told the Economic Times that Bharti Airtel and <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> India have created a new joint venture, Firefly Networks, to take on Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio, which is also finalising its strategy for the country's WiFi market. 
 
The business daily further reported that Firefly Networks is currently looking to get maximum chunk of the WiFi deployments in NDMC areas of Delhi, besides targeting other state governments' WiFi plans, which have got traction due to Modi government's Digital India and Smart City initiatives. 
 
For this venture, incumbent telcos have founded an independent company as a 50:50 joint venture, but Firefly’s business model hasn’t been finalized yet. In fact, Firefly is still working on modalities on how to fund the venture for expansion and with what proposition to go to the market. 
 
Although Bharti Airtel and Vodafone India didn't respond to ET's query on the matter, the business daily reports that “Vodafone's senior vice-president Raj Sethia has joined as the full-time CEO of this new venture and is currently busy in further establishing its presence in the country. The venture's director board includes Vodafone India's CEO designate Sunil Sood and chief technology officer Vishant Vohra, Bharti Airtel's director, consumer business Srinivasan Gopalan, and director, network services group Abhay Savargaonkar.” 
 
The venture has done some deployments in Delhi, which are yet to be launched commercially, including deployments in New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) areas such as Connaught Place and Khan Market. It will also be involved in Indus Towers' latest NDMC project, which will equip 3,000 street light poles in the entire NDMC area with 2G/3G/4G technologies spread across a span of three years, with an investment of Rs 220 crore.

The new capabilities include support for up to two external displays and up to two times faster Wi-Fi than the previous generation. "From college students pursuing their degrees, to business users who need powerful productivity, or anyone who simply wants the unmatched combination of performance, portability, and industry-leading battery life, all in a fanless design, the new MacBook Air continues to be the world's best thin and light laptop," said <keyword id="20364351" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="greg-joswiak" source="keywords">Greg Joswiak</keyword>, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. Customers can now order the new MacBook Air with M3 and it will arrive on March 8. The 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at Rs 114,900 and Rs 104,900 for education, and the 15‑inch MacBook Air with M3 starts at Rs 134,900 and Rs 124,900 for education. Both are available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space grey colours. The 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip now starts at Rs 99,900 and Rs 89,900 for education, informed the company. Featuring a powerful 8-core CPU, up to a 10-core GPU, and support for up to 24GB of unified memory, the new MacBook Air supports hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing. San Mateo-based Yellow.ai aims to democratise technology on its platform by supporting local and regional languages. CEO and co-founder of Yellow.ai Raghu Ravinutala notes that entrepreneurs should proactively address the impact of automation on jobs. "While technological advancements may lead to job displacement in certain sectors, entrepreneurs should invest in retraining to ensure smooth workforce transition," he notes. Sam Altman, founder and CEO of ChatGPT developer OpenAI was among 350 signatories of the Center for AI Safety statement for reducing the risk of human extinction from AI. Amit Das, Founder and CEO of Mumbai-based IT services provider Think360.ai observes, one is scared of what they do not fully understand, in the short-term. "While mass-market AI like ChatGPT is exciting and scary at the same time, task automation will make way for innovations," he added. Soham Chokshi, CEO and co-founder of AI-powered logistics company Shipsy feels technology should empower the workforce. While Indian audiences watched GOT, little did they know that Khaleesi’s massive dragons they saw on screen were actually made in India by Prana Studios. But Indian films are craving for visual effects too, and the scale and size of Indian industry is making global studios set up shop in India. Oscar winning studio Framestore which won the award for films like Blade Runner 2049 and Gravity, is setting up a studio in Mumbai. It will also hire 500 people. But this is not its first tryst with India. Framestore earlier made a major investment in Jesh Krishna Murthy’s VFX Studio, Anibrain, in 2017. “Mumbai has become a centre of excellence in digital filmmaking. There’s a depth of talent that can deliver to the scale of Hollywood with the colour and flair of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>.In terms of visual effects, we will set the standard here as we did in Montreal almost eight years ago,” said Framestore’s founder and CEO, Sir William Sargent. But Framestore isn’t the first global company to turn to India. In 2018, global animation studio Dreamworks partnered with Technicolor to open DreamWorks Dedicated Unit, Technicolor India (DDU) in Bengaluru. And there is a reason why these companies are coming to India. The Indian VFX and animation industry is worth a whopping ₹88 billion with VFX alone holding on to ₹68.4 billion, according to a <a href="https://assets.kpmg/content/dam/kpmg/in/pdf/2019/08/india-media-entertainment-report-2019.pdf">KPMG report.</a>

 “The VFX segment in FY19 saw stereo scoping work flowing to India from international markets and a rise in VFX demand, not just from Hindi movies, but even from South Indian films,” said the report. The South Indian industry which produces a large number of fantasy movies, is early to catch on to this trend. Hyderabad-based Firefly studios was the frontrunner for Baahubali’s visual effects. The city is home to many other such studios like Makuta Studios, which won National Awards for its work in Magadheera and Eega, and also Green Gold Animation which has gained worldwide recognition for its animation series Chhota Bheem. In fact, the Telangana government is also setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for gaming, visual effects and animation. Meanwhile in Bengaluru, startups like MRT Studios, Thought Cloud Studios, Videogyan, and Om Studio are making noise with their VFX work in Kannada films. Unlike South India, visual effects has not yet seen a massive uptake in Bollywood -- although it is used massively for films like Fan, Ra.One etc. Ayan Mukherjee’s next with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt titled Brahmastra is slated to be India’s biggest VFX superhero movie. With the hustle in the sector, there are no surprises that the KPMG report predicts the Indian visual effects and animation industry to hit ₹184 billion by 2024, at a CAGR of 16%.
