<ul class="summary-list"><li>More prominent people in <keyword id="6403489" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="mma">MMA</keyword> are criticizing <keyword id="2944528" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Conor-McGregor">Conor McGregor</keyword> for his behavior of late.</li><li>McGregor has issued death threats and even targeted Dustin Poirier's family in his trash talk.</li><li><keyword id="11675337" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="firas-zahabi">Firas Zahabi</keyword>, a respected MMA coach, called on McGregor's friends to stage an intervention.</li></ul><p>Prominent people in <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/mma" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MMA</a> continue to criticize <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/conor-mcgregor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Conor McGregor</a>'s "stupid" behavior at the <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/ufc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UFC</a> 264 event in Las Vegas earlier this month.</p><p>McGregor tried to start a fight before their match when he <a href="https://www.insider.com/mcgregor-kicked-poirier-and-made-crude-comments-about-his-wife-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threw a kick at his lightweight rival Dustin Poirier during a weigh-in event</a>, made crude comments about Poirier's wife, and said the American would leave the arena on a stretcher.</p><p>After five minutes of fighting on Saturday, July 10, Poirier hit McGregor with 36 of his 66 significant strikes (55%), and won the round - and the bout - when <a href="https://www.insider.com/conor-mcgregor-snaps-leg-in-brutal-loss-to-dustin-poirier-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McGregor couldn't continue because of a broken leg</a>.</p><p>Moments later, <a href="https://www.insider.com/video-conor-mcgregor-delivered-unhinged-rant-after-breaking-his-leg-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McGregor delivered a wild, disturbing, and frenzied rant</a> before he was the one to be stretchered out of the arena and taken to a hospital in Los Angeles for nearly four-hour-long surgery.</p><p>During the rant, McGregor was heard issuing death threats to both Poirier and his wife, which <a href="https://www.insider.com/dustin-poirier-break-conor-mcgregors-other-leg-over-death-threats-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Poirier called "disgusting."</a></p><p>The <keyword id="992778" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="UFC">UFC</keyword> commentator and former lightweight fighter <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHp_BHqWkgA&amp;feature=youtu.beu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paul Felder told the "UFC Round Up"</a> show recently that he understands MMA is "violent," and that: "We're supposed to beat the crap out of each other, knock each other out."</p><p>However, he also stressed: "It's not about murder. It's not about your family. Leave those things out of your mouth, or get the hell out of the Octagon. I never want to see you again."</p><p>One of the world's most respected MMA coaches, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnhO9nGsmaM&amp;feature=youtu.beu.be" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Firas Zahabi, expressed a similar statement on the Tristar Gym YouTube channel</a>.</p><p>"If [McGregor] has a single true friend in this world, that true friend is going to take him behind closed doors and tell him, 'Look, the way you're behaving, it's stupid. 'You're making yourself look bad. You're embarrassing us, your family, your friends'</p><p>"It's just a humiliating way for a true martial artist, a warrior, to behave," Zahabi, who has coached Georges St. Pierre and Rory MacDonald, said.</p><p>Days after UFC 264 had finished, McGregor embarked on a Twitter tirade in which he posted a photograph of Poirier and his daughter, alongside cryptic posts that said: "I'm a dangerous man," "Gonezo," and "I'm a nasty dude I promise you."</p><p>He has since deleted these tweets, <a href="https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2021/07/conor-mcgregor-takes-shots-at-dustin-poirier-and-his-family-in-cryptic-deleted-tweets" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to MMA Junkie</a>.</p><p>Zahabi referenced this, and said that if anybody else on the UFC roster was going after people's children, then there would be calls to kick that athlete out of the promotion.</p><p>"But because it's Conor McGregor, you can't say that. 'It's Conor McGregor, he's the poster boy, he's the one who sells all the tickets.' No! There's no pass for that."</p><p>He later added: "I don't know how you guys can be fans of this man. I respect him as a fighter. I respect his skills, I can't deny that, but the way he behaved at the press conference was just horrible.</p><p id="OGaY67">"Whatever beef you have there, you can't take it and start threatening to kill each other and then start threatening each other's children, team members and whatnot," Zahabi added.</p><p>"That's just animal behavior.</p><p>"Then to say what he said about Poirier's wife? It's disgusting. He's so angry and jealous of Poirier. He will say and do anything to try and insult Poirier, try to take away this moment off Poirier.</p><p>"Listen, Poirier has beaten you, he's a better fighter than you. No titles needed, either. Could be a title. I don't think that's really important to him. "He's found a social life, a balance in life of training and family and friends.</p><p>"To leave all that to do a 155 is a big cost in terms of sacrificing energy and preparation. He would have to prep six months to get to that. I just know he should have never texted those words, ever.</p><p id="JKg5DQ">"Who should like him for a comment like that? How many people do you know, lost their family, lost their business, lost everything because of COVID, and you make fun of it? You say COVID good, father evil? But you make a comment like that, all the money in the world isn't going to allow you to get away with some of the stupid things you say."</p><h2>Many have criticized McGregor of late</h2><p>Khabib Nurmagomedov is already aware of what McGregor said about his father, and called him "evil" for making such comments.</p><p>"Only evil can talk about your father, like wife, kids, religion," <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedov-called-ufc-rival-conor-mcgregor-evil-2021-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he said earlier this month</a>. "If you're a normal human, you're never going to talk about this stuff."</p><p>Nurmagomedov and Mendez are not the only people to call McGregor out on his behavior, though.</p><p>Throughout the week of his last fight, a first-round technical knockout because of doctor's stoppage to Poirier in July, McGregor made numerous death threats.</p><p>After seeing and hearing <a href="https://www.insider.com/video-conor-mcgregor-delivered-unhinged-rant-after-breaking-his-leg-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McGregor's wild and disturbing</a> post-fight rant, <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedov-top-ufc-athletes-slam-conor-mcgregor-behavior-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nurmagomedov said the fighter is "finished."</a></p><p>A former <keyword id="992778" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="UFC">UFC</keyword> champion called Rafael dos Anjos called McGregor <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedov-top-ufc-athletes-slam-conor-mcgregor-behavior-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"a little boy,"</a> while another former champion Dominick Cruz said the fighter just needed to <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedov-top-ufc-athletes-slam-conor-mcgregor-behavior-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">"shut up."</a></p><p>One of MMA's most celebrated coaches, <a href="https://www.insider.com/prominent-mma-figures-criticize-conor-mcgregors-stupid-behavior-2021-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Firas Zahabi, even suggested those close to McGregor - like his coaches and friends - should stage an intervention</a>.</p>

Khabib Nurmagomedov's coach says Conor McGregor is out of control and is losing the respect of MMA

Plus Georges is much more schooled in boxing, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu. So I put it all on Georges side.</p><p>"But McGregor has a better left, a better cross, than Georges. I give him that. Mendez says the Russia wants the fight to pay tribute to the memory of his father, who died earlier this year.</li></ul><p>The winner of the prospective Georges St. Pierre vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov match would be the greatest MMA fighter ever.</p><p>That's according to the San Jose-based American Kickboxing Academy founder <keyword id="9827789" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="javier-mendez">Javier Mendez</keyword>, the long-time coach of Nurmagomedov, 31.</p><p>The Dagestani sambo expert must first dispatch Justin Gaethje at <keyword id="992778" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="UFC">UFC</keyword> 254 on October 23, which is no easy feat considering the American striker's signature victory over Tony Ferguson earlier this summer.</p><p>Should Nurmagomedov retain his UFC lightweight championship against Gaethje, he would be one win shy of a flawless 30-0 record — an achievement Mendez said Nurmagomedov and his late father Abdulmanap often talked about retiring on.</p><p>Speaking to <a href="https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2020/08/khabib-vs-gsp-best-of-all-time-javier-mendez-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MMA Junkie</a> this week, in a response to whether a St. Pierre and Nurmagomedov would decide MMA's best fighter, Mendez said: "I think so, and so does Khabib. The person that beats GSP will be the best of all time."</p><p>The two fighters have often been linked with a bout in the last 12 months.</p><p>The Canadian, 39, held the UFC welterweight championship every year from 2007 to retirement in 2013, beating Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn, and Nick Diaz along the way, before returning to the Octagon in 2017 to challenge Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight championship. He won that fight by submission, then retired again.</p><p>Though he has not fought since, <a href="https://www.insider.com/georges-st-pierre-will-only-fight-mcgregor-or-khabib-ufc-2019-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">St. Pierre's coach Firas Zahabi said</a> in October last year that the wrestler would only return again should the opponent be Nurmagomedov or Conor McGregor.</p><p>Earlier this year, St. Pierre appeared eager to fight Nurmagomedov, but <a href="https://www.insider.com/george-stpierre-says-khabib-fight-fell-apart-because-of-ufc-2020-4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed the issue was with the UFC</a> as the company feared he'd win, then immediately retire with the championship much like he did after finishing Bisping.</p><p>This month <a href="https://www.insider.com/georges-st-pierre-wants-a-khabib-nurmagomedov-ufc-fight-offer-2020-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">St. Pierre invited the UFC to call him</a> and make him an offer he couldn't refuse so that a mega-bout involving Nurmagomedov could be arranged.</p><p>Now, Mendez said Nurmagomedov would like to fight St. Pierre in his 30th and final bout. "He might do that because all the times that I was with him and his dad, they've talked about those things: two more fights, 30-0.</p><p>"They want to a legacy fight, then be done and help the other guys that are starting their fighting careers."</p><h2>Nurmagomedov would be doing it for his father</h2><p>Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a respected MMA trainer in Dagestan, <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedovs-dad-abdulmanap-dies-aged-57-coronavirus-2020-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">died aged 57 in July after battling the coronavirus</a>.</p><div type="image" title="Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and Khabib, UFC " height="1000" width="2000" msid="77761456" hostid="261"></div><p>Khabib Nurmagomedov's AKA gym-mate Dan Cormier, a former two-weight UFC champion, <a href="https://www.insider.com/khabib-nurmagomedov-justin-gaethje-will-be-toughest-ufc-opponent-2020-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said this month that he expects the wrestler to use his father's death as motivation</a> ahead of his high-stakes 155-pound title fight with Gaethje.</p><p>Mendez told MMA Junkie that Nurmagomedov's father's influence will likely extend beyond the UFC 254 battle.</p><p>"He doesn't want that [GSP] fight for money and that's what his father wanted. He told me, 'That's what my father wants. What do you think coach?' And I was like, 'You know, if that's what your father wants, we can do it, and if that's what you want as well.' And he's like, 'Yeah, I want to do it for my father, so I'm like, 'Let's do it.'</p><p>"But if he doesn't want to end his career he can jump back in there. He's young, he's only 31, so he still has a more years of fighting. I'm not going to tell him he has to fight. But after the financial success of their initial bout, it would be foolish to dismiss the possibility of a rematch, even if the idea of the two meeting in a UFC bout is somehow even more ludicrous than <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/floyd-mayweather-knocks-out-conor-mcgregor-2017-8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">their initial matchup</a>.</p><p>Just as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mayweather-mcgregor-who-will-win-expert-predictions-2017-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McGregor's chances were dismissed by those in the boxing world ahead of their first fight</a>, those who know MMA are not at all high on Mayweather beginning his UFC career in his early 40s.</p><p>While Mayweather is a perfect 50-0 in the boxing ring with 27 knockout wins to his name, those with knowledge of the UFC do not like his chances against McGregor in the Octagon. <a href="http://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/22859549/how-mma-trainer-prepare-floyd-mayweather" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ESPN's Brett Okamoto</a> recently asked several MMA coaches how they would go about training Mayweather, and their responses were less than inspiring for the fighter.</p><p><span>"First, I would try to talk him out of it," said Firas Zahabi of Tristar MMA. "Honestly. I would sit him down and say, 'Listen, man. I know I can make a lot of money training you, but I want to talk you out of it.' If that didn't work, I would bring him to practice and put him through the ropes, and try to gently convince him not to fight MMA."</span><span></span></p><p>Still, the early signs of Mayweather moving to the UFC are in place - Mayweather has claimed he will be applying for his MMA license, and says he'll <a href="http://tv5.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/22775488/floyd-mayweather-begin-training-soon-tyron-woodley-transition-mma" target="_blank" rel="noopener">soon begin training with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley</a>.</p><p><a href="http://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/22837163/las-vegas-sportsbook-installs-conor-mcgregor-massive-favorite-floyd-mayweather-hypothetical-mma-fight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Las Vegas odds have even been set</a> for a potential fight in the Octagon between Mayweather and McGregor, with McGregor the understandably heavy favorite at -1000. Mayweather is listed as +650 underdog.</p><p>All that said, it still seems extremely unlikely that Mayweather would jump into the world of MMA at 41 years old, especially against one of the best fighters in UFC - commentator <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/joe-rogan-says-floyd-mayweather-would-get-killed-if-he-fought-conor-mcgregor-in-ufc-2018-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Rogan has speculated that a fight between Mayweather and former WWE superstar CM Punk</a> might be a better match.</p><p>But McGregor's jump to the boxing ring was almost as unlikely, and it turned into, while not the best, one of the loudest sporting event in all of 2017. McGregor won the lightweight belt when he scored a thumping knockout win over Eddie Alvarez in 2016, but because he hasn't defended the title since, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/why-ufc-will-strip-conor-mcgregor-of-his-lightweight-world-title-2018-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the UFC will strip him of his belt and award the championship to the Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov winner</a>.</p><p>It all builds to a grudge match of sorts. At UFC 196 in March 2016, Diaz submitted McGregor with a stunning rear naked choke. Five months later, McGregor leveled the scoreline with a five-round decision win at UFC 202.</p><p>With the rivalry poised at one win apiece, a trilogy bout makes sense. Conor McGregor will fight twice this year - here's who he could face in UFC

MacDonald <a href="http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2521054-rory-macdonald-injury-updates-on-ufc-stars-nose-foot?utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=programming-national">suffered a broken foot, broken nose, and both of his eyes appeared severely swollen</a>. MacDonald's trainer Firas Zahabi posted a picture of the two in the hospital on his&#xa0;Instagram:</p><div><div></div></div><p>&#xa0;</p><p class="embed-spacer">Zahabi captioned the photo,&#xa0;"In the end you find admiration and respect for one another. Lawler opened the fight strong, breaking MacDonald's nose in the first round. MacDonald, however, responded by winning the next three rounds and nearly knocking out Lawler with a flurry of attacks at the end of the third.</p><p class="embed-spacer">Down 3-1 on all three of the judges scorecards, Lawler's camp knew he needed a knockout to win. Rather than quickly think of a new game plan, Lawler told UFC's&#xa0;Megan Olivi that his corner told him to simply <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH43gz5664M">"show his heart."</a></p><p class="embed-spacer">"Just go out there, it's all heart," Lawler recalled his corner telling him. "All strategy is done, let's just go show your heart."</p><p class="embed-spacer">A minute into the fifth and final round Lawler, landed a hard right left and repeatedly pummeled a helpless MacDonald before the referee stopped the fight, giving Lawler the win by knockout.
