With the jump of at least 242 cases from the last year, the <keyword id="6366797" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Metro" source="Orion">Delhi Metro</keyword> has reported 3,952 cases of thefts so far this year, according to the <keyword id="19898134" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-police" source="keywords">Delhi Police</keyword> statistics. Till September 8 last year, at least 3,709 cases of thefts were reported in the <keyword id="19900881" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi" source="keywords">Delhi</keyword> Metro, it stated. Official sources said that these cases of thefts include pick pockets, missing of mobile pones, purse or other valuables items of the passengers and metro staffs. It also includes thefts of the metro properties. According to the data accessed by PTI, out of 3,952 cases, at least 3,898 cases of thefts were registered through e-FIRs and 5,48 of them were solved till September 8 this year. Out of 3,709 cases, at least 3,648 cases of thefts were registered through e-FIRs and 1,471 of them of were solved in the same period in 2023, the data shows. The data further shows at least 81 cases of motor vehicle thefts have been reported till September 8 this year and 72 in the same period last year from the premises of the Delhi metro. At least 56 cases in 2024 and 61 in 2023 have been solved till September 8 this year. At least 11 burglary cases have been reported till September 8 this year. While in 2023, just three cases of burglary were reported in the premises of the Delhi metro. The data also shows at least three cases of snatching were reported and two of them have been solved till September 8 this year. Last year, in the same period, two cases of snatching were reported and both were solved. At least five cases of robbery were reported and four of them have been solved till September 8 in 2024. While only one case of burglary was reported in the same period in 2023. The security of the Delhi Metro is looked after by the Delhi Police and the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force). Besides, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also deploys its security guard at the platforms to control and manage the crowd during the passengers' movement. For 190 metro stations in Delhi, there are 16 metro police stations where the cases are registered and investigated by the Delhi Police. Apart from the CISF personnel, who conduct frisking and checking, the Delhi Police personnel conduct the patrolling in the metro trains and its premises. According to a senior police officer, the metro police along with the DMRC and CISF takes security measures from time to time to keep the metro safe and secure. Delhi Metro reports 4,000 cases of thefts so far this year

Maruti Suzuki leads the list Additionally, the report emphasizes that 47% of all stolen cars belong to the Maruti Suzuki brand. Cars in high demand, leading to longer delivery timelines, are more vulnerable to thefts. Consequently, the most frequently stolen cars in Delhi NCR are India's popular hatchbacks – the Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Swift, closely followed by the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Grand i10, and Maruti Swift Dzire in third, fourth, and fifth place, respectively. Thieves exploit modern technology to steal cars Moreover, the evolving skills of these thieves coincide with the increasing technological sophistication of cars. Modern vehicles are equipped with advanced safety features, including keyless entry operating on barcodes embedded in windshields. Thieves exploit this technology by scanning the barcodes and sharing the codes offshore, enabling them to unlock cars and even gain remote access. Bike thefts witness a higher surge Curiously, 2023 witnessed a surge in bike thefts, with India experiencing a 9.25x increase compared to car thefts. The top-selling bike, Hero Splendor, secured the first spot among the most stolen bikes, followed by Honda Activa. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 reappeared in 2023 as a favoured choice among thieves, with Honda Dio and Hero Passion joining the list as new entrants. What to do if your vehicle is stolen? In the event of a vehicle theft, customers are advised to promptly inform both the police and the insurance company. They should submit essential documents, including the FIR copy, vehicle registration certification, driver’s license, etc., to the insurer. In some cases, customers may also need to provide the original car keys. If the police fail to locate the vehicle within the stipulated time frame, they will issue a non-traceable certificate. The specific time limit for filing a claim for vehicle theft may vary depending on the terms and conditions of the insurer. Your insurer will furnish you with a claims form that will help you through the process of filing the claim. Your insurance company will probably require some supporting documentation to substantiate your claim. This could involve submitting the police first information report (FIR), the original registration certificate (RC), all original keys, and any other pertinent records to your insurance provider. Agrees Yagnesh Dosshi, co-founder and director, Raghnall Insurance Broking and Risk Management. “Once the FIR is filed, the policyholder needs to report the theft to the insurance company immediately and initiate a claim request as soon as possible, ideally within 24-48 hours of the theft.” Why your vehicle theft claim may rejected An insurance company may deny a claim for vehicle theft under certain circumstances. Bengaluru, A Jaipur-bound truckload of tomatoes, a precious commodity across the country now, went missing in what is suspected to be another "heist" linked to Karnataka. A trader has claimed that he lost touch with the driver and cleaner of his truck, which was carrying 11 tonnes of tomatoes from the district headquarters town of Kolar, en route to the Rajasthan capital. A complaint has been filed with Kolar police, in which the trader has alleged that the truck was carrying tomatoes worth Rs 21 lakh. Representatives at Kolar Agricultural Produce Market Committee, from where the produce left, pegged the price of tomatoes at Rs 160 per kg. According to the complaint, the truck loaded with 750 crates left the local 'mandi' in Kolar on July 27 and the consignment was scheduled to reach its destination in Jaipur for supply to a local vegetable market there. The truck, which was being tracked through the GPS tracking system, had apparently covered around 1,800 km since it left Kolar. The vehicle was supposed to reach its destination in Jaipur by Saturday night. But when it did not do so, the trader tried to contact the driver but his phone was switched off, a senior police officer said. The concerned trader then filed a complaint at Kolar police station stating that the truck had gone missing. "Based on a complaint received from one of the traders based in Kolar, we have initiated a preliminary inquiry into the matter. No FIR has been registered in the matter yet since we had to verify whether the driver had met with any accident on the way to its destination or if the tomatoes got stolen. So, an inquiry was initiated and we collected details from the complainant in the matter," the police officer said. The Preliminary inquiry has revealed that the huge consignment of tomatoes which was to be unloaded at Jaipur was apparently delivered at a local vegetable market in Ahmedabad, he added. Vinay Reddy, the trader who sent the tomato consignment, said that his father Muni Reddy filed the police complaint after the truck went "missing". "We loaded 11 tonnes of tomatoes which were packaged in 750 boxes in a truck from Kolar tomato mandi. The consignment was to be unloaded at Mohana Sabji Mandi, Jaipur by Saturday midnight. The vehicle also had an inbuilt GPS tracking system," Vinay Reddy, owner of SVT traders, said. Reddy said that he last spoke to the driver around 9 pm on Saturday and he had assured that by 11 pm, the consignment would reach the mandi in Jaipur. "However, in the morning, I got to know that the consignment had not reached the market. When I tried to contact the driver, his phone was also found to be switched off. There was no other way to reach him. So, we had to approach the police here," he said. Reddy said he then informed his acquaintances in Jaipur and later received information from their local sources that the tomatoes had been sold at Ahmedabad. "We suspect that these tomatoes were sold off by the driver but we still haven't been able to get in touch with him. It has also come to notice that the same truck was not used to transport the consignment to Ahmedabad. We need to get it verified," he said. Reddy said that the consignment belonged to three parties and that they were also likely to reach Ahmedabad and file a complaint at the local police station there as well. Earlier this month, tomatoes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were stolen from a farm in Goni Somanahalli village in Belur taluk of Karnataka's Hassan district. Thieves allegedly decamped with 50-60 bags of tomatoes from a woman farmer's agricultural field, following which a case of theft was lodged at the Halebeedu police station. In another such incident, a couple from neighbouring Tamil Nadu was arrested by the police for hijacking a truck laden with 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes in Bengaluru after faking an accident to extort money. According to the police, the couple was part of a gang of highway robbers that intercepted Mallesh, a farmer from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district, at Chikkajala on July 8. They demanded money claiming that the farmer's truck had bumped into their car. The farmer was transporting tomatoes in his Mahindra Bolero jeep to Kolar. When he refused to pay them, the miscreants assaulted him, pushed him out of the truck and drove away with the vehicle loaded with 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes. Based on the complaint lodged by the farmer, the RMC Yard police tracked the movement of the vehicle and zeroed in on the gang.

Tomato heists rise: A Jaipur bound truckload goes 'missing'

The police attributed the rise to enhanced awareness, initiatives of filing suo moto cases and registration of e-FIRs, among other factors. In 2023, the city also witnessed an increase in other crimes as compared to the previous two years with the police registering 205 cases of murder, 153 cases of chain snatching, 673 robbery cases, 1,692 cases of house thefts and 5,909 cases of motor vehicle thefts, according to the data shared by the police. According to the data, the city police registered 2020 FIRs related to crime against women in 2021, 2630 FIRs in 2022 and 3,260 FIRs in 2023. Out of the total cases of crime against women reported last year, the city police was successful in detecting 3,121 cases. In 2023, the police registered 176 cases of rape, 1,135 cases of molestation, 60 cases related to insulting modesty of women, 25 cases related to dowry death, 696 cases related to cruelty by husband or relatives of husband, 161 cases of immoral trafficking act and 1,007 cases related to dowry prohibition act. The city also saw an increase in cases of <keyword id="43285" type="General" weightage="70" keywordseo="crime-against-children" source="Orion">crime against children</keyword> in 2023 with the police registering 631 cases, out of which 560 were registered under the POCSO (Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences) Act. Police succeeded in detecting 588 cases. Last year, Bengaluru saw an increase in gambling cases with police registering 639 cases as compared to the previous two years. 588 and 622 gambling cases were registered in 2021 and 2022 respectively, the data showed. The city also reported 2,358 suicides and 5,848 accidental deaths last year due to electrocution, drowning, burning, fall from height and poisoning, among others. The data also stated that 6,006 persons were reported missing in Bengaluru in 2023. Out of these, police succeeded in tracing 5,026 people while 1,189 kidnapping cases were registered. Out of this, 981 cases were detected. Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the Bengaluru Police registered 3,443 cases, seized 5387 kg drugs worth Rs 103.22 crore and arrested 4,399 persons in 2023, the data showed.

According to police, on April 13, an FIR was registered in which a woman, a resident of M block, GK-II reported the theft of three expensive mobile phones, a purse, two laptops, branded shoes, wrist watch and her Baleno car. Upon the same day, another case of house burglary was reported in which electrical items - a steam press, five Sony TVs with a set top box, and an LG Printer - were stolen from the CR Park area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Choudhary said that information about two house burglaries raised alarm in the area and a police team was tasked to work on the modus operandi and electronic surveillance on the both reported incidents. "The team started looking at the trail of CCTV footage of the suspect on route of the stolen car which revealed that it was going towards Noida through Alaknanda in CR Park," said the official. During investigation, the team checked the locations of stolen mobile phones and found one of the mobile phones switched on and its location was found near Agra, Uttar Pradesh on a highway. "The stolen mobile phone was kept on surveillance. The team spotted the stolen car on a highway near Ettawah moving towards <keyword id="6357478" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kanpur" source="Orion">Kanpur</keyword>. It started chasing the car and waited for the moment to stop the high speeding car running at a speed of around 120 km/hour safely and chased the car for a run of about 100 kms," said the official. "The car was intercepted at a toll booth in the area of <keyword id="6386222" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kanpur-dehat" source="Orion">Kanpur Dehat</keyword> where Bunty tried to escape but he was apprehended," said the official. As per police, Bunty Chor has more than 250 previous involvements in the criminal cases registered across the national capital. Bunty started the commission of burglary at the age of 14 in 1993. He gained fame when he went to the renowned reality show 'Big Boss' Season 4 in 2010 but was evicted from the show due to misbehaving with the maker and host Salman Khan. Chandigarh, May 11 () The Haryana government on Monday appointed senior IAS officer T C Gupta as head of the special investigation team (SIT) to probe the alleged theft of seized liquor from two godowns in Sonipat district.About the liquor stock going missing, Home Minister Anil Vij had on Sunday said it is not an ordinary theft case and an in-depth probe is needed to uncover those involved in it.He had recommended to the chief minister that the three-member SIT should be headed by a senior IAS officer for a thorough probe looking into all possible angles involved in the case.Vij had given names of senior IAS officers Ashok Khemka, Sanjeev Kaushal and T C Gupta, requesting Chief Minister M L Khattar to pick up any one of these officer to head the SIT or suggest a name on his own.Gupta, who is additional chief secretary in the department of power, employment and renewable energy, will head the team, an order issued by the state home department said.The other members of the SIT will be Subhash Yadav, additional director general of police, State Vigilance Bureau, Gurgaon, and Vijay Singh, additional excise and taxation commissioner. The SIT will check the actual availability of stock in all warehouses and godowns that were sealed by the excise department during the last two years for any violation, it said. This means that the SIT will check whether the stock of liquor which was there on the date of sealing is actually the same or not."The SIT will also examine cases of seizure of illicit/non-excise duty paid liquor in Haryana from the period, April 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020, both by the police and excise departments separately with special reference to the action taken and the fines imposed by the excise department pursuant to the recovery of the liquor," the order said.It will also collect and collate the result of investigation of the FIRs registered from March 15 till April 10 in different parts of the state for pilferage of liquor from the godowns and also from the Malkhanas (strong rooms) of police stations, as per the order.The report will be submitted by the SIT by May 31, the order issued by the home department.The Haryana Police on Saturday seized Rs 97 lakh in cash, two pistols and three mobile phones besides a sports utility vehicle following a raid in a house to nab the prime accused in the case of missing liquor stocks from the two godowns in Sonipat.The Sonipat police raided the house of accused Bhupinder Singh, but he managed to escape, said officials.
