The upcoming series brings together Rajkummar Rao with <keyword id="845110" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dulquer-salman" source="Orion">Dulquer Salman</keyword>, Gulshan Devaiah and Adarsh Gourav. The streamer shared the show's release date on its platform. "Coming on 18 August," the tagline read. Inspired by the misfits of the world, "Guns &amp; Gulaabs" is set in the 90s. It is billed as a story that depicts love and innocence though it is set in a world of crime, as per the official description of the series. Produced under Raj &amp; DK's banner D2R Films, the show also features TJ Bhanu. "Guns &amp; Gulaabs" marks the first directorial venture of Raj &amp; DK with streamer Netflix. They earlier made shows "The <keyword id="502674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="family-man" source="Orion">Family Man</keyword>" and "Farzi" for Prime Video and are currently working on the Indian chapter of "Citadel" for the streamer.

<ul><li><keyword id="2609426" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="farzi" source="Orion">Farzi</keyword>, by director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, is a crime thriller starring Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles. </li><li>To date, Raj and DK have written 8 movies (directing 7 of them) and 2 shows, of which The Family Man is the most successful. </li><li>They also have three highly anticipated series in the pipeline - Guns &amp; Gulaabs, Gulkanda Tales, and the Indian adaptation of Citadel. </li></ul>When TVF’s Pitchers released on YouTube in 2015, it was one of the first original Indian web series to truly go viral - the feat didn’t repeat till Netflix released The Sacred Games in 2018. Today, OTT platforms in India are a dime a dozen. And every platform has a host of shows, original movies, docuseries, mockumentaries, and whatnot on offer. Only a handful of these projects, however, leave a mark on the audience. Going by the critics’ reviews and fan comments, the crime thriller Farzi, by director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK aka Raj &amp; DK, is well on its way to becoming one such show. Farzi marks the OTT debut of actor Shahid Kapoor and the Hindi-language debut of Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi. It chronicles the journey of a talented sketch artist, Sunny (played by Kapoor) who produces counterfeit money to initially save his grandfather - but later, succumbs to the greed of easy money. Sethupathi, meanwhile, plays a sassy cop with a penchant for personal mess and professional success- similar to Raj and DK’s other talented spy, Srikant Tiwari from their hit series The Family Man. Farzi also stars Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora in pivotal roles, along with brief but important cameos by Zakir Hussain, Kubbra Sait and Amol Palekar, among others. Though the concept is a tad more common and predictable than their other projects, Farzi still manages to hook your interest - thanks to impeccable performances. The eight-episode-long series released on Amazon Prime Video on February 10 and is <a href="https://twitter.com/rajndk/status/1625478730465570817/photo/3">trending worldwide – it’s </a>in the Top Ten on Prime in Australia, the US, the UK, UAE, Singapore and Canada Littered with references to The Family Man and even a minute callback to their earlier film 99, Farzi makes for a memorable addition to Raj and DK’s filmography, and their spy universe. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Delivering eclectic content since 2003" comment="subhead2" text="Delivering eclectic content since 2003">Delivering eclectic content since 2003</cmsannotation> Raj and DK made their debut with the romantic comedy Flavours in 2003. Today, their filmography includes a sci-fi romantic comedy (Glitch), India’s first zombie-comedy (Go Goa Gone), and a nuanced crime-drama (Shor in the City), among others. What’s common across their projects is an acute understanding of the world their protagonists inhabit - be it the working-class professionals who hate Mondays in Go Goa Gone or frustrated fathers caught between demanding children and bosses in The Family Man. In Farzi too, Kapoor’s mini monologue on the tragedy of being a middle-class Indian in the country has started doing the rounds on social media for being “relatable AF” - in the words of millennials and GenZs. Of course, the credit for this partially goes to the show’s co-writers, Suman Kumar and Sita Menon. Kumar also worked with the duo on The Family Man. But it’s also to do with how Raj and DK pursue a story - through detailed research, a healthy dose of sly humor, and in their own words, lots of writing: “Our writing process is extremely clinical – from the plot to the history of the characters, the screenplay – we want everything to be on paper. Also, we write a lot. Like a lot. We always want to have a lot of material to bounce things off. Some stories resurface because they were written for a different time. Sometimes two scripts merge to create something like Stree, which was in a different shape originally. The same goes for Family Man too,” shared DK <a href="https://www.gqindia.com/entertainment/content/the-family-man-raj-and-dk-interview">with GQ India</a>. Raj and DK produced Stree and also wrote the screenplay, with Sumit Arora writing the dialogues and Amar Kaushik directing the film. However, the duo has also pandered to commercialisation at times and indulged in overused tropes and cliches (for example, Happy Ending). Guns &amp; Gulaabs, which includes the stellar ensemble cast of Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav and Gulshan Devaiah, is yet another crime comedy. Meanwhile, Citadel is a science-fiction action-drama starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Prabhu. The original American version has been created by the Russo Brothers (of Marvel fame) and stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. Just like the anti-hero of Farzi, few ‘artists’ in Bollywood possess the talent to break stereotypes and surpass tropes to create interesting content in a genre as cluttered as crime and comedy. Raj and DK are well on their way to not only attaining this tag but perhaps, even transitioning into auteurs - defining the genre, rather than just contributing to it. Farzi is the latest example of directors Raj & DK pushing novel content in Indian cinema

<ul><li>Our weekly virtual chat features some of the most loved creative heads and directors who take us on a walk down memory lane, talking about some of the most talked-about and well-appreciated ads they have worked on.</li><li>In the latest episode, <keyword id="271660" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ram-Madhvani">Ram Madhvani</keyword>, Founder and Director, Equinox Films spoke to us about Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite film, <keyword id="2510610" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel-Wynk">Airtel Wynk</keyword>’s ad and Happydent’s well-known Palace campaign.</li></ul>For Ram Madhvani, Founder and Director, Equinox Films, the world of advertising has been a great teacher. While the ad world helped people meet people who have all become a very important part of his life, including his wife, Madhvani, during a recent conversation said that advertising had also taught him work ethic. “I get a sense of responsibility from the world of advertising. Here things happen on time. Apart from that, I have also learnt a lot about communicating with the audience and the idea that its about what you say, how you say it and how you make people feel. I have learnt a lot of the craft of reaching out to the public, thanks to advertising,” said Madhvani, on the latest episode of BTS with Insiders. Madhvani who is known for his feature films including Neerja and Let’s Talk is also credited with directing some of the most loved ads in recent times that include multiple ads for Airtel including Har Ek Friend Zaruri Hota Hai, DOcomo, Coca-Cola, Asian Paints and Bisleri among many others. On BTS with Insiders, Madhvani spoke about 3 ads that he holds dear. <div type="javascript" title="Facebook" contenttype="Video"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div> Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite More than a year after Amazon launched Kindle in India, it came out with a campaign to introduce Indian consumers to the e-reader through a long-form film. The ad was a celebration of people who love stories and books and depicts the joy of reading through the journey of a young man who travels to a village to leave children spellbound with the stories he narrates to them, the same stories he reads on his Kindle device. Speaking about why the campaign was special for him, Madhvani said, “Since Kindle is all about stories and filmmaking is all about stories, the Kindle film was a demo film about stories. And that’s how we sold it to the client. It was a tremendously exciting opportunity for us too. The film had amazing music by Tajdar Junaid with lyrics and the voice of <keyword id="21050" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swanand-Kirkire">Swanand Kirkire</keyword>. The ad has been shot real, without any lights. Many of the shots have been done without permissions, even the one on the plane. I was scolded by a lady on the plane too. We wanted to make the shots real. My producers were able to set this up in a way that we were able to do this in a very small unit.” The intent was also to make the film feel real and more like a documentary. “While the ad is shot in Sri Lanka, its not meant to look like Sri Lanka. We had to shoot there because we didn’t get permission in Lakshadweep. But I have this quest for the Indian eye. I wanted to understand what an Indian aesthetic is and I realized when you’re framing stuff, apart from it being emotional, its chaotic. The West has told us about the S curve, the rule of thirds or about minimal framing. I had all these conversations with <keyword id="3945289" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="raj-deepak-das">Raj Deepak Das</keyword> who is a great motivator. He said, ‘We need a new language.’ So we decided all our frames should have foreground, mid ground and background and all the compositions are going to be chaotic,” he shared. The ad was well received and had over 5.3 million views on Amazon’s official Youtube channel in just 7 days and today Kindle is seeing a huge adoption among Indian readers. Airtel Wynk In 2014, Madhvani worked with Taproot on a campaign for Airtel’s music streaming app Wynk. The setting of the film was larger-than-life. It brought together over 700 musicians under one room and featured around 14 different genres of music. All the music featured in the ad were original compositions. The campaign also featured Sanya Malhotra. “A lot of this is thanks to Agnello Dias, Gopal Vittal and others from the marketing team of Airtel who allow us these acts of madness, believe these ideas and embrace them. That only comes due to the relationships you build with people. Great work comes from a certain creative greed and I can’t lead that. I can only smell that greed. I have realized great creative directors who want great work, people like Dias, Das, Prasoon Joshi and Sajan Raj Kurup, are all mast in their own creative zones and all I did was held on to their tail. In a way they are my co-directors,” added Madhvani. The film was shot in a day. All the musical parts were rehearsed and pre-recorded. “There were so many people, we had a lot of rushes and so many different genres of music. So it was a lot to handle. However, the entire team handled all of that really well and <keyword id="194866" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hemant-Chaturvedi">Hemant Chaturvedi</keyword>, our director of photography, gave it a rock concert feel. It was also Sanya’s first ad. She came with a completely spontaneous, unfrazzled talent and I would love to work with her again,” added Madhvani. Happydent’s ‘Palace’ In 2015, Happydent’s Palace commercial was named as one of the World's 20 best ads of the 21st century by the Gunn Report. The ad was conceptualized by Prasoon Joshi and directed by Madhvani. Speaking about how Joshi’s grand vision was executed, Madhvani said, “Its great working with Prasoon because he has a poet’s mind. It was meant to be a montage film and we had presented a commercial in Delhi which wasn’t a great commercial. And I had thought he would never give me Happydent. But it was really nice of him to trust me. I asked him if we could make a narrative film rather than a montage and he agreed. It was tough. The music was done by <keyword id="73991" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shantanu-Moitra">Shantanu Moitra</keyword> and the song was sung by Kailash Kher. Composers Vishal-Shekhar were in the next studio. When the duo came to see the commercial, they said they wanted to be a part of it. So they ended up giving the Qawwali claps in the film,” added Madhvani with a laugh. He also shared the day after the ad was released, Madhvani visited the Ogilvy office and he got a standing ovation there. “That was a really sweet moment. Also, Sameer Suneja (who is now the global CEO of Perfetti Van Melle) really supported us. We showed him an 85 as well as a 60 seconder because originally it was originally supposed to be 60 seconds long. But after watching the 85 seconder, he said he did not want to watch the other version. It took a lot of courage from the client as well as from Prasoon to back the idea and back me. So I take no credit except for just made sure that I executed it in a cussed kind of way,” explained Madhvani. While the shoot was supposed to happen in some palace in Rajasthan, it finally happened in Panvel due to lack of funds. However, that hardly affected the final outcome and the ad is still one of Happydent’s most iconic ads.

They are the first Indian productions to bag the award. As per the Academy’s tradition for Best Song nominees, singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava sang the song live on-stage, accompanied by a troupe of 20 dancers — receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. Actor Deepika Padukone who presented the song at the ceremony, said “it’s a total banger”. Naatu Naatu, the foot-thumping track from the period drama RRR, has been creating waves globally for a while now. Composed by M M Keeravani, the song also won a Golden Globe — again, the first for an Indian production. Not like India had not been the subject of foreign filmmakers — but mostly, these were indie films or documentaries. Rarely had a drama featuring a majority of Indian or Indian-American actors and the typical song-and-dance sequences Bollywood was known for, made it to any Oscar category other than International Feature. And yet, here was Slumdog Millionaire that competed and won. But the film didn’t escape criticism. Fans and film critics, alike, analysed the role that Boyle played in managing Indian storytelling with foreign sensibilities. It's just that the SM idea authored by an Indian and conceived and cinematically put together by a Westerner gets creative globe recognition. Perhaps it was the weight of these expectations that let it down domestically but the song became a global sensation, even winning Rahman his first Golden Globe. The foreign media and audience, who presumably had little familiarity with their work, hailed Jai Ho for its mellifluous tune and catchy beats. For many Indians though, who grew up listening to the duo deliver hits like the soundtrack of Saathiya or Guru, Jai Ho was mediocre, at best. Such criticism has also been meted out to Naatu Naatu, with people sharing Keeravani’s past discography as examples of his “better work”. RRR, set during the era of the British Raj in India, has also been criticized for its underlying casteism and Hindutva ideology. The Elephant Whisperers, on the other hand, has only been hailed since its release. Personal opinions aside, these wins are historical moments — to put India and Indian artists on the map and make it count is always worth celebrating! Mumbai, Apr 11 () Actor Shreya Dhanwanthary of "The Family Man" fame is set to make her directorial debut with a micro-series called "A Viral Wedding: Made In Lockdown". The actor said the nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic, pushed her to make the home-made show.Shreya made her acting debut last year with "Why Cheat India" (2019) opposite Emraan Hashmi and was also seen in Amazon's "The Family Man".Titled "A Viral Wedding…" the micro-series is created by Shreya along with cinematographer-publicity photographer Pratha Narang and has been mentored by "The Family Man" director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK."It is India's first micro-series, shot, edited, conceptualised and created during lockdown. This is for all of you at home from our homes. We all have shot at home with no equipment, it is home-made, it has real feel to it and people will relate to it," Shreya told .Shreya said Raj encouraged her to creatively explore newer ways of storytelling."Raj and I got along very well and we were talking about a lot of things, like taking bigger risks in storytelling, narrating real stories. Soon, a fully formed idea came to me. I thought of doing something on the current scenario. "Nobody had ever thought that the entire world would be on pause mode. This is unprecedented. It is an attempt to reflect on the reality of the situation in a light hearted way through this micro-series.""A Viral Wedding", is the story of a social media influencer (Shreya), who refuses to cancel her wedding due to lockdown. "It is a journey from that day onwards. You will have to see whether the wedding happens or not. The decision taken by the PM about lockdown seemed like an interesting idea to explore. I was sure I want to do this in a light hearted way because there is so much more happening. It is an attempt to make people smile."Besides Shreya, the show also features Amol Parashar, Sunny Hinduja, Aishwarya Chaudhary, Aritro and Sharib Hashmi among others.Shreya said the shoot is over and the team is giving final touches to a few episodes.
