The 69th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2024 with Gujarat Tourism was held in GIFT City, Gujarat. The festival concluded on Sunday with an awards ceremony that was hosted by Karan Johar, Ayushmann Khurrana and Maneish Paul. Bhatt's co-star <keyword id="19978371" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shabana-azmi" source="keywords">Shabana Azmi</keyword> in "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani" won best supporting actress award but film's lead star Ranveer Singh lost the trophy to <keyword id="19909122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ranbir" source="keywords">Ranbir</keyword> Kapoor. The Karan Johar-directed film also won the trophy for best dialogues as well as best choreography for "What Jhumka?". <keyword id="19895145" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vicky-kaushal" source="keywords">Vicky Kaushal</keyword>, who was also nominated in the best actor category, won a best supporting actor trophy for Shah Rukh Khan-starrer "Dunki". Despite delivering three biggest hits of the year in "Pathaan", "Jawan" and "Dunki", SRK was missing from the winners list despite securing a nomination in the best actor and film categories. "Jawan", however, won Filmfare for best VFX and action. "Animal", one of the most controversial but successful films of the year, not only won Ranbir a best actor trophy but bagged trophies for best music album, background score and best playback singer to Bhupinder Babbal for "Arjan Valley". "12th Fail" star Vikrant Massey won best actor (critics) Filmfare. The film also won in the screenplay and editing categories. Best actress (critics) trophy was shared by Rani Mukerji ('Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway') and Shefali Shah ('Three of Us'). "Three of Us" director Avinash Arun Dhaware won the trophy for the film's cinematography. Manoj Bajpayee-starrer "Joram" won best film (critics) award as well as best story recognition for Amit Rai and Devashish Makhija. Amitabh Bhattacharya's "Tere Vaaste" from "Zara Hatke Zara Bachke" won best lyrics while Shilpa Rao was recognised as the best female playback singer for "Besharam Rang" from "Pathaan". Kaushal's film "Sam Bahadur" won Filmfare for best production design and costume design. Best debut director went to Tarun Dudeja for "Dhak Dhak" and best debut actor male to Aditya Rawal for Hansal Mehta-directed "Faraaz". Alizeh Agnihotri won the trophy for best female debut for "Farrey" at the awards show where filmmaker David Dhawan was honoured with the lifetime achievement award. The gala night also saw the presence of celebrities such as Kareena Kapoor, Aparshakti Khurana, Karishma Tanna, Kartik Aryan. Ranbir, Sara Ali Khan and Kareena also performed at the event.

Haven’t all of us spent more time deciding what to watch rather than watching the content? FLYX was conceived keeping this very consumer problem in mind. It is a discovery platform specially aimed at people faced with the perennial dilemma of selecting content worthy of watching. The pandemic and the ensuing lockdown led to many people flocking to different OTT platforms, to keep themselves entertained while staying locked at home. This led to a surge in interest among people to get better content recommendations and led to an earlier launch of FLYX which had been in the making for the past couple of years. Despite being in the pre-revenue stage currently, the platform is working towards creating opportunities for content producers to reach the right audience at the right time through the business platform the company is currently working on. We caught up with Shashank Singh, Founder and CEO, FLYX to understand how the platform works, how it is planning to monetize itself and the kind of opportunities it will present to marketers in the future. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Excerpts:" comment="subhead" text="Excerpts:">Excerpts:</cmsannotation> <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) FLYX was launched in the middle of last year’s lockdown. Briefly tell us about your journey so far.</cmsannotation> FLYX was conceived with the idea to provide a platform for the seamless discovery of movies and shows for people who were faced with the dilemma of selecting content worthy of watching. Our aim is to create a new-age digital platform to empower consumers and content creators to ensure great content wins. As the first step toward the goal, we have launched a unique social network to connect friends, family, celebrities, casts, crews and influencers to help get recommendations. Research has shown us that two-thirds of our video streaming habit is influenced by friends and family and that is the best way to discover great content. We started working on the idea since the last couple of years and opened up our private beta in early 2020, then publicly launched at the end of April 2020. Since then, it has been an interesting journey and we are really excited for what lies in the future. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) How did the pandemic and the lockdown affect your business?" text="Q) How did the pandemic and the lockdown affect your business?">Q) How did the pandemic and the lockdown affect your business?</cmsannotation> The pandemic brought with it a surge in the number of people turning to OTT platforms to fulfill their cinematic cravings. This scenario prompted us to pre-pone our launch. We had launched in a private only beta earlier in the year, and had decided upon a late summer or early monsoon official release. However, as the pandemic swept through the world, we saw a sudden and a huge spike in activity within our small group of close to 500 private beta testers. Our family and friends wished to introduce their acquaintances to the app too and demanded that FLYX be launched. Therefore, contrary to expectations, the pandemic forced us to launch sooner than we had intended, and so far, the response has been overwhelming. India, which serves as the home for over 40 OTT platforms, and is the second largest OTT market predicted to reach $5 billion in size by 2023, is our primary focus market. It is encouraging to see that the people are tuning in more than ever to OTT platforms within the confine of their premises. People are still wary of going to go to theatres but want to keep themselves entertained. We already have more than 100,000 users in India from key locations like Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Chennai, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Patna. We have been strengthening our team in India to further expand our footprint. We recently partnered with <keyword id="5714" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Filmfare">Filmfare</keyword> for their first-ever OTT awards which was very well-received by the audience as well as the industry. This is a validation of the work we are doing. We were able to double our user base and witnessed a huge spike in engagement across our social media. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) Tell us a bit more about your association with Filmfare." text="Q) Tell us a bit more about your association with Filmfare.">Q) Tell us a bit more about your association with Filmfare.</cmsannotation> Over the past few years, with the advent of digitalization, the streaming industry in India has garnered greater attention. New talent, innovative, gripping narratives and layered characters have all been limned in the limelight, and OTT platforms have facilitated the recognition of this new, brilliant facet of cinema. Our collaboration with Filmfare was motivated by a common goal - to celebrate and honor the best content creators and artists who have kept up with our entertainment needs and delivered quality content to us even during unprecedented times. Filmfare’s legacy and FLYX’s dedication to bringing modern-age technology to digital entertainment contributed to the distinctiveness of the award show. The overall response to the event was also gratifying. All in all, an atmosphere of camaraderie and shared excitement was cultivated and we were amazed at how the industry came together in such a short period of time and helped us make this a historic event for the OTT industry. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) Have you seen any trend in the demographics, gender, age group of your users?" text="Q) Have you seen any trend in the demographics, gender, age group of your users?">Q) Have you seen any trend in the demographics, gender, age group of your users?</cmsannotation> We conducted a survey to examine the consumer behavior during the pandemic. The respondents were in the age group of 18-65 years and formed a multifarious group of students, professionals, business owners and self-employed individuals, among others from major cities of India, including Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata. 56% of the respondents were male and 42% were female. The survey revealed that there has been an upsurge in both purchase of OTT subscriptions and viewing hours among Indian users. Over 50% of the respondents said that they had purchased new subscriptions during the pandemic, along with a 5x increase in those spending 16+ hours weekly and a 4x increase in those spending 12-16 hours weekly on OTT platforms. This has made it evident to us that people from all age groups and both the sexes have shown a pre-ponderance for OTT platforms and all that is associated with them. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) What is your current revenue model?" text="Q) What is your current revenue model?">Q) What is your current revenue model?</cmsannotation> We are still at the pre-revenue stage but there are huge opportunities in this space. FLYX want to create opportunities for content producers to reach right audience at right time via the business platform we are currently working on. We are targeting to launch this in the second half of 2021. We are also working on some really cool and exciting stuff and will create some experience for premium users who will have access to some premium features. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) You are a content discovery platform. In future, we will also allow them to sell merchandise to the fans. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q) Who are your competitors? What sets FLYX apart from its contemporaries, however, is the fact that it is a one-of-a-kind, highly interactive and fun social platform where users can engage with their friends and followers through stories and chats, watch trailers, read news, create shareable lists and exchange notes and comments with followers about the new and upcoming releases. Recently, we also launched a new exciting and innovative feature called Sharelist on the platform. This feature will enable users to share recommendations of movies and shows with their friends and family and across social media platforms in real-time and is available for both Android and iOS users. Eight songs that ensured Kishore Kumar became a legend

India's Melody Queen, who also composed music for Marathi films and was a producer as well, and had the distinction of being conferred with the highest civilian honours of India and France, passed away on Sunday morning at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where she had been admitted because of Covid-related complications on January 11. Lata Didi, as she was known among her family and followers, was 92 and is survived by her siblings -- playback singer and composer Meena Khadilkar, popular singer and restaurateur Asha Bhosale, singer <keyword id="146736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Usha-Mangeshkar" source="Orion">Usha Mangeshkar</keyword>, and music director Hridayanath Mangeshkar. She never married, but was close to the late Raj Singh Dungarpur, the aristocratic former cricketer and President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from 1996 to 1999. One of India's most loved voices, Lata Mangeshkar was the recipient of three National Film Awards, seven Filmfare awards, and of course, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. She was conferred the Bharat Ratna in 2001, becoming the second singer after M.S. Subbulakshmi to be so honoured, and the French awarded her the Officer of the Legion of Honour. In 1974, Lata Mangeshkar became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London. She had indeed come a long, long way since the time when the first song that she recorded for a film -- 'Kiti Hasaal' in 1942 -- was dropped in the final cut. Born in what was then the princely state of Indore on September 28, 1929, to the classical singer, Marathi theatre actor and writer of musical plays Deenanath Mangeshkar and his wife Shevanti (Shudhamati), Lata Mangeshkar was originally named Hema by her parents, but they later changed it to Lata after the character Latika from one of her father's musical plays. Lata Mangeshkar's association with the performing arts began when she was five and started appearing in her father's musical plays, and it continued even after her father's premature death in 1942, thanks to his good friend, the actor and director Master Vinayak (Vinayak Damodar Karnataki), who took the family under his wings. It was Master Vinayak who took Lata Mangeshkar to Mumbai, paved her way into the world of Marathi cinema, got her to take Hindustani classical music lessons from Ustad Aman Ali Khan of the Bhendi Bazaar Gharana, and introduced her to Vasant Desai, V. Shantaram's favourite music composer. But it was not until Master Vinayak's death in 1948 that the struggling singer-actor found the person whom she considered to be her "godfather" -- the music composer Ghulam Haider, who gave Lata Mangeshkar her first big break with the song 'Dil Mera Toda, Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora' in the movie 'Majboor' (1948). It was her first big break. Haider took his protege to Shashadhar Mukherjee, the Filmistan boss now better known as Kajol and Rani Mukherjee's grandfather, for his film, 'Shaheed' (1948), but he turned her down because he found her voice to be "too thin". Lata Mangeshkar proved him oh-so wrong just a year later when her song 'Aayega Aanewaala', filmed on the gorgeous Madhubala in Kamal Amrohi's debut directorial, 'Mahal' (1949), became an ageless hit. And in one of life's delicious ironies, Mukherjee's grand-daughter lip-synced the 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' song, 'Mere Khwabon Mein', which was sung by none other than Lata Mangeshkar, as well as the other numbers picturised on her and Shah Rukh Khan. Since 'Mahal', Lata Mangeshkar was courted by just about every music director of note -- from Anil Biswas to S.D. Burman (and his son Rahul Dev, whose first and last song she sang), Naushad (who had asked her to sing like the then reigning nightingale, Noorjehan), Madan Mohan, Shankar-Jaikishan, Laxmikant-Pyarelal (for whom she's said to have sung 700 songs in 35 years), and Kalyanji-Anandji. And she worked with every contemporary composer of note -- from Anand-Milind, sons of Chitragupt, with whom she had also worked, and Anu Malik, Sardar Malik's son, to Ilaiyaraaja and A.R. Rahman. It is said she worked with music directors from 13 states in her star-studded career. After Noorjehan moved to Pakistan, Lata Mangeshkar became the go-to playback singer for every film producer and music composer. She did not disappoint them. Lata Mangeshkar lent her voice to an endless succession of chart-topping numbers in Hindi cinema, from 'Allah Tero Naam' and 'Rangeela Re' to the 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' title track, to 'Lukka Chuppi' in 'Rang De Basanti', apart from songs in Marathi (she also composed the music for several Marathi films in her 'Anandghan' avatar), Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Sinhala. In 1974, the Guinness Book of Records listed Lata Mangeshkar as the most recorded artiste in human history, stating that she had recorded "not less than 25,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages" between 1948 and 1974. The claim was contested by her long-time rival, Mohammad Rafi, who claimed to have sung around 28,000 songs. After Rafi's death, the Guinness Book in its 1984 edition listed Lata Mangeshkar in its entry for 'Most Recordings', but it also recorded Rafi's claim. Later editions of the Guinness Book said Lata Mangeshkar had sung no less than 30,000 songs from 1948 to 1987. For 73 years, from 1943 to 2015, when she recorded her last song for a film (the Indo-Norwegian production, 'Dunno Y2...Life Is A Moment', which was all about gay love), Lata Mangeshkar commanded a fan following and an inimitable reputation with not many parallels in the Indian performing arts. The late Yash Chopra, who was one of Lata Mangeshkar's favourite directors, said in an article he had penned for BBC.com on the occasion of the singer's 75th birthday (not longer after she had sung the famous 'Veer Zaara' song, 'Tere Liye Hum Hain Jiye', with Roop Kumar Rathod): "I see God's blessing in her voice." Forbes goes Fidaa on Tamil Nadu’s favourite Rowdy Baby - Sai Pallavi

Akshay Kumar wins the National Award for best actor; 'Neerja' wins best film

The 33rd AVN Awards also unofficially known as the <keyword id="6376611" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="oscars">Oscars</keyword> of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=porn">Porn</a> was held in Las Vegas on January 23. It set to commemorate the best in the adult movie business.

3. Best Taboo Relations Movie: One simple question: Did they mean incest? Game of Thrones must be laughing at this stupidity right now. Why give an award for something that IS a way of life in almost every porn movie? 
 
4. Best Fetish Manufacturer: IS THIS EVEN REAL?! The winner, incase you’re interested is Spartacus Leathers. 
 
5. Best Pleasure Product Manufacturer: There were three awards for this, based on size- small, medium and large. I should stop typing now.

2. He started off his career as an assistant to I.S Johar and his elder brother Baldev Raj Chopra. 
 
3. The first ever movie that he directed was called Dhool Ka Phool, which was produced by B.R. Chopra. He was 27 at that time. 
 
4. He was the man behind the camera when Shashi Kapoor made his debut with the social drama Dharmputra, which won the prestigious National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. 
 
5. With the 1965 movie Waqt, he started a trend of multi-starrer movies in Indian cinema, a trend which is still being followed in Hindi cinema. He also received his first Filmfare Best Director Award for this movie. 
 
6. When rest of the filmmakers were blindly following the trend of making action films, Chopra, who didn’t like the action genre, dared to make extravagant love stories, and succeeded. 
 
7. Without the support of Yash Chopra, Bollywood could have lost the lyricist genius it has today in Javed Akhtar. It was Yash Chopra who inspired Akhtar to be a lyricist after he broke up with Saleem Khan, his long-standing scriptwriting partner. 
 
8. On the top of Mount Titlis in Switzerland, there is a standee from the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. It has been placed there in honor of Yash Chopra, who went to Switzerland to shoot most of his memorable scenes. 
 
9. There is a hotel suite and a train in Switzerland, named after him. 
 
10. His last directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan would have been his last even if he would not have succumbed to dengue. He had announced his retirement from direction after JTHJ, but looks like destiny didn’t want him to do so, and honored his last wish in a heart-breaking way.

Remembering Yash Chopra, the King of Romance, on his 3rd death anniversary

It is 15th of August in 1975; Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay has found its way into the theatres. While the country men have switched on the patriotic mode in them, Bollywood was preparing to redefine the arena of Indian commercial cinema like never before. A film that defines patriotism in a newer way, thrills with its suspense even if you watch it for the zillionth time and shows how a friendship in India thrives has come a long way and it’s now a part of every Indian’s growing-up discourse. 
This Independence Day marks the 40th anniversary of Sholay. Anupama Chopra, the renowned film critic has said in her book ‘Sholay- The Making of a classic’ (Penguin India), “Over the years, Sholay, has transcended its hit-movie status. It is not merely a film, it is the ultimate classic; it is myth.” 
 
While, over the last 40 yrs much has been said and written about the film, we at Business Insider list for you 20 amazing facts you still don’t know about Sholay: 
 
 
1. Sholay is a record breaker in many ways. It is also India’s first 70 mm film, which had stereophonic sound. 
 
2. Amjad Khan’s ‘Kitney aadmi the’ dialogue has become a cult. Yet, Khan was almost rejected because the casting director found that his voice was not ‘powerful enough’. 
 
3. Many things about this movie were real even the bullets in the climax scene. It is said that one spare bullet had nearly missed Amitabh. 
 
4. Gabbar’s gang member Sambha was played by Mac Mohan. Though he has become an indispensible part of the movie, he just has one dialogue in Sholay. 
 
5. Amzad Khan wasn’t the first choice for the role of Gabbar. It was Danny Denzongpa who was supposed to play the role. 
 
6. What DDLJ is to Maratha Mandir, Minerva Theatre of Mumbai is for Sholay. This theatre screened Sholay for 5 years continuously in all three shows of the day. And till 1980, it was a major hit. 
 
7. Sholay has proved this long back that awards don’t determine a movie’s credibility. Though a blockbuster, Sholay had won just one Filmfare award, that too for editing. 
 
8. The movie, after the initial part, is all about Gabbar and his notorious activities. However, in a 204 minute film, Gabbar appears in just 9 scenes. 
 
9. While the official release date was 15th August 1975, the movie was launched on 2nd October in 1973. 
 
10. Estimated at Rs 2 crores, Sholay’s budget over ran to an extra one crore. It took almost two and a half years to complete the movie. 
 
11. Previously, scriptwriters weren’t really paid in Bollywood. Sholay changed everything. It set the scripwriters as real creator of hit movies. 
 
12. Getting requisite permissions had prevented Thakur Saab from being an army officer. The character of Thaakur saab was conceived as a retired army officer. Having not got necessary clearances from the army, the role was changed to a police officer. 
 
13. The role of Jai played by Amitabh Bachchan was initially planned for Shatrughan Sinha. 
 
14. Dharmendra was nursing a deep crush on Hema Malini during the shooting of the film. He wanted to play the role of Thakur initially, but settled for playing Veeru when he realized that the character would be paired against Hema Malini. 
 
 
15. The light boys were bribed by Dharmendra to spoil his scenes with Hema Malini. This led to numerous retakes and Dharmendra’s chance of getting closer to Hema intensified. 
 
16. The original ending of Sholay has Gabbar being killed by Thakur. 
 
 
17. The Censor Board didn’t approve of too much violence in the end. Sholay was made to re-shoot several scenes to get rid of extreme violence. 
 
18. Ramgarh , the village shown in Sholay is actually a town called Ramanagara, which is 50 kms from Bangalore. Since 80s, it came to be called Ramgarh to commemorate the film.

She is probably the least familiar name in the list, but that doesn’t undermine her acting talent. But we still want Jeneva to do a role in a commercial movie – so that the masses can further appreciate her praiseworthy prowess.

Been there, done that… Divya Dutta is not new to the industry. In fact, she has been wowing us for some 20 years and still outshines many of her contemporaries when it comes to character roles. Who can forget her Multani-speaking character Shanno, who managed to strike all the right chords in Veer Zaara? Her portrayal of Ishrat Kaur, the elder sister of Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, won her several awards and nominations. Bollywood Musing: 7 Supporting Actresses We Would Like To See Doing Lead Roles

<keyword id="6407374" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sholay">Sholay</keyword> (1975) is amongst the greatest movies in over 100 years’ history of Indian cinema, and has earned numerous accolades. While most of us remember all its characters by heart, it’s Gabbar who still rules over millions heart. 
 The character of Gabbar, played by <keyword id="144591" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amjad-Khan">Amjad Khan</keyword>, contributed immensely to the success of this blockbuster movie. Even after four decades, people remember his iconic dialogues such as "Kitne aadmi the", "Ab tera kya hoga Kalia?”, “Jo dar gaya, samjho mar gaya", etc. In 2013, Filmfare named Gabbar Singh the most iconic villain in the history of Indian cinema. 
 To cash on the popularity of Gabbar Singh, few movies have used his name for hero’s character. In Telugu film - Gabbar Singh (2012), the male lead, who played a role of apolice cop, renamed himself as Gabbar. This movie became one of the highest grossing Telugu movies. In Hindi movie - <keyword id="2760691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gabbar-Is-Back">Gabbar is Back</keyword> (2015), the hero of the film, who was man against corruption, renamed himself as Gabbar. This movie also did amazingly well at the Box Office. During the end of this flick, Gabbar kidnaps Digvijay Patil and both the characters quarrel to prove their brand power and eventually, Gabbar proves and says, “Gabbar is a bigger brand than you”. 
 
Many marketing books teach about importance of marketing of companies and their products, but Gabbar’s example teaches about marketing your most important asset all by yourself. Besides, it also tells you how to create your own personal brand in a super crowded market. 
Here we list 10 characteristics that helped Gabbar Singh to become one of the most powerful personal brands are as follows: 
 
Passion: Gabbar was a dacoit, but people love his character because he played the role of dacoit with passion, which was reflected in his dialogues, actions and strategies and made this role unforgettable. 
 
Preparation: Amjad Khan was almost dropped from the project because <keyword id="10355" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Javed-Akhtar">Javed Akhtar</keyword> found his voice too weak for Gabbar Singh's role. But, Amjad Khan made Gabbar one of the most popular characters. In preparation for the role, Amjad read Abhishapth Chambal, a book on Chambal dacoits written by Taroon Kumar Bhaduri (actress <keyword id="496768" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaya-Bhaduri">Jaya Bhaduri</keyword>'s father). 
 
Reputation: Gabbar had a very strong reputation in his profession. The authorities declared a big reward of Rs 50,000 for getting him arrested. He made sure that his team and audience know his reputation; he asks one of his team members - “Arre o Samba, kitna inaam rakhe hai sarkar ham par?” 
 
Leadership: Gabbar led a group of dacoits, and kept them inspired and loyal towards him, but when needed he even punish them. 
 
Visibility: Gabbar used to regularly send his dacoits to Ramgarh (market) to keep an eye on villagers (target audience), maintain his terror (positioning) &amp; watch any upcoming competition. When his dacoits came back without getting anything from villagers (zero business), he measured his competition by asking "Kitne aadmi the". 
 
Communication: Gabbar was a strong communicator. His voice modulation, emotional touch, eye contact, dialogues (content) and delivery style (body language) fascinated audience. 
 
Association: If Gabbar would have been alone, he would not have been very powerful, he associated himself with likeminded people (dacoits) and became leader of his association. And this gave him network, credibility and power. 
 
Remembrance: Gabbar made sure that people remember him and use his brand for creating fear. He used to say, “yaha se pachas pachas kos door gaon me jab bachcha raat ko rota hai to maa kahti hai beta soja nahi to Gabbar Singh aa jaayega”. In 2002, The <keyword id="223452" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="British-Film-Institute">British Film Institute</keyword> wrote that fear of Gabbar Singh is still invoked by mothers to put their children to sleep. 
 
Endorsement: Gabbar Singh was the first villain character used by a company to publicize its products. He endorsed Britannia Glucose Biscuits, the advertisement was an instant hit in children and the sales almost doubled. 
 
Opportunistic: To attack his competitors when they are not prepared to face his attack, Gabbar asks his team “Holi kab hai, kab hai holi?” and plans to attack Ramgarh during Holi celebration. 
 
People perceive that brands are different and better than commodities. When they buy any product or service, they pay higher prices for the products or services from known and reputed brands than for the products or services from unknown brands, and commodities serving the same requirement. 
 
In Sholay, there were many other non-branded dacoits (except Samba and Kalia because their names were mentioned by Gabbar in popular dialogues), and it is difficult to differentiate them from one another because they all seem to serve the same need, solve the same problem, and deliver the same value for Gabbar. In today’s highly competitive and super crowded world, individual’s personal brand is his most important asset and he can achieve his dreams by trying to become his field’s Gabbar.
