<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ford+">Ford</a> is going to change its portfolio in India by dumping some of its old models. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=US+auto-maker">US auto-maker</a>, which earlier used to come out with one product at a time, is planning to launch at least four all-new vehicles at the same time to boost its sales. 
 
The company is trying to shed the image as a one-product-wonder by launching several models in quick succession in India. 
 
So, how it is bringing in change? Ford has stopped manufacturing the Figo hatchback as well as the Classic and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Fiesta+sedans">Fiesta sedans</a>. 
 
While the first model from the fresh range, the Figo Aspire, has just been launched, a new <a href="file:///C:/Users/gunja.d/Documents/Septemeber%202015/Figo%20and%20Endeavour">Figo and Endeavour</a> as well as the Mustang are next in line to enter the <keyword id="47445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Indian-market">Indian market</keyword> over the next few months, said people who are aware of the development. 
 
Anurag Mehrotra, executive director for marketing, sales and service, said: "As part of our commitment to customers in India, we continue to investigate ways in which we can meet the needs of customers with more products.” 
 
Presently, the EcoSport is Ford's bread-and-butter model in India. The Figo Aspire has generated robust response, with the company already getting 4,000-5,000 bookings since the car's launch last month. 
 The new Figo is likely to hit the market by September end or the beginning of October, followed the new Endeavour premium SUV. The Mustang sports car is expected to make its India debut during the <keyword id="73154" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Auto-Expo">Auto Expo</keyword> early next year. 
 
We want to comment here that these are part of Ford's desperate efforts to boost sales that have been on a downhill drive for quite some time. 
 
Ford's sales fell over 30% to 18,546 units from April to July - the first four months of the current fiscal year - when the Indian market grew 7%. 
 
Product launches by Ford in India have been few and far between when compared with rivals such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Maruti+Suzuki+">Maruti Suzuki</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Hyundai+Motor">Hyundai Motor</a>, a fact that industry experts blame for the US auto maker's lacklustre performance in this market. 
 To increase its market share will be a big challenge for Ford as it is a little late to bring a sub-4-meter sedan and the new products Figo and Figo Aspire are both positioned in an overheated segment, said Gaurav Vangaal, senior analyst for forecasting at consultancy firm <keyword id="350927" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="IHS-Automotive">IHS Automotive</keyword>. "In a dynamic market, keeping pace with changing buyers' needs through continuous freshness is a given. Any delays can be dangerous." 
 
The company has often taken a long break after launching a successful model such as the Figo, said Vangaal. 
 The Figo was a big success for Ford when it launched in 2010. The company's volume more than doubled to about 1 lakh in fiscal 2011, when <keyword id="106216" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ford-India">Ford India</keyword> also posted its highest market share of 3.93%. But as the novelty of hatchback started waning, the volumes fell to 77,225 units within two years. 
 
The Fiesta that came next could hardly make an impact due to premium pricing. But the popularity of EcoSport drove its volume to 85,000 units in fiscal 2014. But EcoSport volumes too slowed in the last fiscal year, driving down overall numbers. 
 
Ford's April-July market share of 2.11% was its lowest in five years and it is banking on the new models to improve the standing. It now has a better system in place to achieve it, such as an operationally profitable manufacturing base and wider network. Efforts are also ongoing to make spares available at competitive prices, an area of concern for Ford customers.

Even Kia Motors’ India <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/auto/news/kia-motors-11-electric-vehicles-in-2021-but-india-may-have-to-wait-longer-to-buy/articleshow/80056447.cms">revealed </a>its plans to make India a global export hub for the auto giant, in an exclusive interview with Business Insider. And Nissan too is no less than its peers, the company is already ramping up its production at its Chennai plant and has plans to add 1500 more jobs. These announcements come at a time when the pandemic has battered automakers around the world with subdued sentiment and a decline in sales. In fact, the Indian auto sector was witnessing a slowdown and BSVI transition challenges even before the pandemic struck. Fiat’s $250 million India investment plans Fiat currently holds less than a 1% share of India’s passenger vehicle market but is looking to expand its operations with four new products that will hit Indian roads by the end of 2022. It is determined to increase its locally-made componentry in vehicles produced in its joint venture manufacturing facility. “Our plans in India are aimed at increasing the value proposition for customers through our products and services, working hard on customer satisfaction and unlocking business opportunities for our business partners,” FCA India Managing Director, Dr Partha Datta said. The all-new local vehicle line-up includes the 2021 made-in-India Jeep Compass, a locally produced and global-first three-row Jeep SUV, as well as the iconic Jeep Wrangler and next-generation Grand Cherokee flagship, which will both be locally assembled in FCA’s joint venture manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon. The company’s Jeep brand made its debut in India in 2016 and carved a premium position in India. Fiat is now planning to unveil the 2021 Jeep Compass in India on January 7, and production has already commenced. The luxury seven-seat mid-size Jeep, codenamed H6, will be launched in 2022. Fiat’s $250 million investment plans in India are in addition to the $450 million they have already committed over the past five years. The global automakers are pushing ahead with big plans for India in the coming years. What is making Ford, Fiat, and Kia put more money in India

A sub 4 meter sedan is one of the three models the American auto major Ford plans to launch in India, over the next nine months. 
 
Besides, the company is also looking to expand its sales network in the country by adding over 100 new outlets, primarily in tier III cities, by the end of next year. "By early next year, we plan to introduce three models. First to come would be compact sedan Figo Aspire, followed by the new Figo hatchback and premium sports utility vehicle Endeavour," <keyword id="106216" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ford-India">Ford India</keyword> President and Managing Director <keyword id="2037938" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nigel-Harris">Nigel Harris</keyword> said. 
 With the launch of Figo Aspire, expected to be rolled out next month, Ford is looking to get into high growth compact sedan segment which is currently dominated by <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>, <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword>, <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> Cars and <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>. 
 
Ford is determined to make a mark despite fierce competition in the segment, which accounts for nearly 30,000-35,000 cars each month. 
 
"There is room to do well in the segment," he said. 
 
Figo Aspire, which will come with various segment firsts including twin airbags as standard fitment across models, will be launched in both petrol and diesel trims. 
 
"While designed primarily for India, this is a global One Ford vehicle that lives up to our worldwide standards, offering more quality and advanced technologies than consumers would ever expect for the money," Harris said. 
 
With sales of 1.1 million vehicles in 2014, compact cars' share was 45 per cent in India's auto market in 2014. Ford expects the segment to grow to around 1.6 million units by 2018. 
 
When asked about the company's investment on the new product, Harris did not disclose the figure but said, the "investment is part of the $1 billion the company has put in on the Sanand plant". 
 
Elaborating on the product launches, he said: "After Figo Aspire, we plan to launch the new Figo hatchback. It will also be produced out from our Sanand plant. So after EcoSport, which still has more than 40 per cent market share in the SUV segment, we will have models in segments that are growing," Harris said. 
 
Commenting on the sales network expansion, Harris said: "We currently have 341 outlets across the country and by the end of next year we plan to add 100 more dealerships, primarily in the tier-III towns." 
 
Terming India as one of the most important markets for the American firm, Harris said: "This market is important for us and that's why we have invested in Chennai (plant) in 90s and now USD 1 billion in the Sanand facility in Gujarat." 
The company will also export the Figo Aspire to compete globally. Ford plans to make India an export hub for small cars. Ford aims to triple exports from India over the next five years with its new USD 1 billion plant here becoming operational. 
 
At present, Ford India exports around 60,000 to 70,000 units annually to over 35 global markets from its Chennai-based facility. With Sanand factory getting operational, the company is targeting a total of 50 export markets. 
 
With Sanand going on stream, Ford India's total installed capacity currently stands at 4.4 lakh vehicles and 6.1 lakh engines per annum.

Ford aims to consolidate position in the country by launching 3 new models

Over the years, Gujarat emerged as a global investment destination and justified its role as the growth engine of <keyword id="6356076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-economy">Indian economy</keyword>. Perhaps, this is what motivated American multinational automaker <keyword id="64455" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ford-Motor-Company">Ford Motor Company</keyword> to make investments in the state. 
 
The Dearborn-headquartered automaker has invested $1 billion in a new plant in Gujaratm, which will help the company increase its exports three times from India, an Economic Times report quoted chief executive Mark Fields. 
 According to the ET, <keyword id="6355174" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ford">Ford</keyword> plans to make India an export hub for compact cars such as the EcoSport, a sub-four meter sports utility vehicle, and the newly launched compact sedan, Ford Figo Aspire, the first car to be produced at the new facility. 
 
The launch of the new plant, Fields told ET that Ford’s new manufacturing facility in Gujarat will almost double the company's installed production capacity India to 610,000 engines and 440,000 vehicles every year.

This American car company invested $1bn in Gujarat. Know why

United States will soon get a taste of ‘Made in India’ cars as <keyword id="106216" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ford-India">Ford India</keyword> is planning to ship its popular compact sport utility vehicle-EcoSport-to the US for sale starting October 2017. 
 
The company has already started working on developing a face-lifted version of the car for North American markets and has initiated a preliminary tendering process to source components. 
 
Economic Times reported that the request for quotation put out by Ford is for as many as 90,000 units a year, which is more than the number of vehicles it sells in India. 
 
It is worth mentioning that no US car maker has ever exported cars made in India back to its home market. 
 
If Ford gets the nod, the move will be historic for the American car maker as well as for India. 
 
The financial daily stated that made-in-India cars have been exported to many markets, including those in Europe. India is already a key export base for Ford Motor - it ships India-made compact vehicles to Europe. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra had plans to take a pickup version of the Scorpio to the US, but that hasn't happened. 
 
A Ford India spokesperson told ET the company "would not like to comment on speculation around future product and manufacturing plans". 
 
In a recent interview with ET, Ford Motor Chief Executive Mark Fields said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of exporting from India to the US. "In business, you never rule out from the beginning certain opportunities. But it all comes down to making sure first and foremost that wherever the product is manufactured, you want to make sure that it is high quality and meets the expectations of consumers," he had said. 
 
But India's faces threat from Ford Thailand, which is also competing for the order to supply the SUV for the US and Canadian markets. 
 
"The plan for exports to the US from Asia was there right from the start. As the company was globally restructuring operations, the clarity on whether India or Thailand was being studied," one of the people told ET. 
 
Ford, which entered India two decades ago, has invested more than $2 billion but is still struggling to turn profitable as it is currently sitting on accumulated losses of more than Rs 1,000 crore. 
 
The local demand didn't match expectations and Ford decided to export vehicles from India, starting with the Figo hatchback in 2010.

Soon made-in-India Ford EcoSport to run on US roads. Here’s how

A tie or a win against Portugal can happen but it involves containing the best soccer player in the world: Cristiano Ronaldo. 
While Ronaldo <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/cristiano-ronaldo-injury-2014-6">has an injury and there is a slight chance he won't play</a>, the U.S. likely won't know that until hours before the game.

1. Suffocate, stifle, and hound the players that provide him the ball in dangerous areas, specifically João Moutinho, who is an incredible passer of the ball for both club (Monaco) and country (Portugal) and if the U.S. gives him the time and space to pick up his head and make passes to Ronaldo, we're toast.
2. Similar to how the U.S. contained Portugal's Luis Figo, the World Player Of The Year in 2000, in the 2002 World Cup by having U.S. defender Frankie Hejduk just follow him around the field for 90 minutes, they could elect to put someone solely on Ronaldo, the 2013 World Player Of The Year, like a Timmy Chandler, for example, to play the role of pest and hope for the best."

Stopping Ronaldo will have to come by committee. Germany had a lot of success both limiting service to him and ensuring he had to go through multiple defenders anytime he was on the ball, effectively negating his dribbling ability.
Ronaldo usually plays on the left, meaning it will come down to Fabian Johnson and Alejandro Bedoya to ensure he never gets one-on-one isolation in a dangerous area. It's something the U.S. has done well to skilled opponents in the last couple games, so it's just a matter of ensuring the fullback, winger and possibly a central midfielder are around to stymie his creativity.

Fortunately, the team seems to be leaning in that direction anyway. After exploring more offensive postures over the last three years under coach Jurgen Klinsmann-mostly against weaker teams-the World Cup version of the Yanks now seem willing to hold back, defend in numbers, and try to score on quick counterattacks.
