Best credit cards for online shopping this festive season

<keyword id="20069374" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-services" source="keywords">IT services</keyword> firm <keyword id="19924892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Tech Mahindra" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Tech Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> on Saturday reported a more than two-fold jump in its consolidated <keyword id="19942166" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="keywords">net profit</keyword> to Rs 1,250 crore for the July-September quarter, driven by special income from the sale of assets. The Mahindra Group company posted a net profit of Rs 493.9 crore in the year-ago period, according to an exchange filing. Revenue rose by 3.49 per cent to Rs 13,313.2 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25 compared to Rs 12,863.9 crore in the same quarter of 2023-24. "Other income includes gain on sale of property of Rs 4,502 million which comprises of freehold land and its related buildings along with the furniture &amp; fixtures sold for a consideration of Rs 5,350 million, receivable over a period of four years along with interest of 8.2 per cent p.a," the company filing said. Sequentially, net profit rose by 46.81 per cent and revenue by 2.36 per cent. "We continue to progress on our strategic improvement efforts even as the overall IT services industry has remained soft. "We have focused on strengthening client relationships and expanding the partner ecosystem while maintaining a sharp focus on operational excellence through project Fortius, which has resulted in an expansion of margins for the third sequential quarter," Tech Mahindra CEO Mohit Joshi said. The CEO unveiled Project Fortius in April, a three-year plan to achieve a 15 per cent operating margin with a focus on organic growth. "This quarter we see consistent performance around increasing deal wins, <keyword id="19965932" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revenue-growth" source="keywords">revenue growth</keyword>, cost optimisation and steady free cash flow generation as we continue our journey towards FY27 stated targets. In line with our capital allocation policy the board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 15 per share," Tech Mahindra CFO Rohit Anand said. The company's TCV (<keyword id="23580531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Total-Contract-Value" source="keywords">Total Contract Value</keyword>), or net new deal wins, stood at USD 603 million in the second quarter of FY25. Joshi further said the company is on the right path for a long-term sustainable transformation, with its leading indicators moving in the right direction, and its 'Scale at Speed' narrative resonating in the market. "We have invested in strengthening the capabilities in the focus service lines by broadening the leadership and investing in technical specializations. "We continue to invest in strengthening our fresher hiring program, building the right mindset and future skilling and associates, by building capabilities in AI-first and cloud-first skill sets," he told reporters. Investments shall continue in creating and sustaining an outcome-driven learning organisation and cultivating a high-performance culture based on the pillars of simplifying, clarifying, innovating and driving a high-performance orientation, he added. This year could be volatile because we are in the turnaround phase, Joshi said. "I am confident, however, that the platform is being set for a long-term, valuable franchise thanks to a high-calibre and united leadership team and a clearly articulated strategic plan," Joshi said. The Pune-headquartered firm added 6,653 employees during the quarter under review, bringing the total staff count to 1,54,273. Shares of Tech Mahindra settled at Rs 1,688 apiece on the BSE on Friday, down 0.68 per cent from the previous close. Brar said the booking momentum in September was good, which is a strong indication for October. "And this time, all festivals are in October..we expect about 5-10 per cent sales growth during the period as compared to last year," he added. "So in that sense, on an average, then we are able to get a double-digit growth during the festive season," Iyer stated. Elaborating on the overall industry, which still remains a very small part of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country, he said the segment is headed for record volumes this fiscal year but not all players are witnessing growth." Some (companies) are even degrowing, some are flat and they are facing headwinds, but because we are the primary player in the market, we still feel the luxury car market should cross 50,000-51,000 cars this year," Iyer said. The luxury car market in India currently remains very small accounting for less than 2 % of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country. Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the automaker anticipates positive buying trends to continue during the festive season. "Our best-selling models - the A4, A6, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, and the newly launched Q8 - continue to drive robust demand," he added. The company is equally optimistic about the e-tron range, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, Dhillon said. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said the fundamentals of the Indian economy are sturdy and consumer confidence in the luxury segment is on the rise. "For BMW Group India, the order bank is solid and we are trying our best to speed up deliveries for our customers. Along with additional bookings around Diwali and Dussehra, we are confident of closing the year on a high note while clocking impressive growth," he stated. He noted that the group is witnessing very strong demand for products across all segments. Pawah said that in the run-up to the festive season, the company has introduced several special editions of its existing model range. The festive season usually commences with Onam and ends with Diwali every year.

The gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 6.2% in the July-September quarter of 2022-23. India remained the fastest-growing major economy, as China posted a 4.9% growth in July-September 2023. “The 7.6% GDP growth in the September quarter has far exceeded the RBI’s 6.5% estimate for the period, ensuring that India remains on the growth path despite multiple global headwinds arising from economic and geo-political uncertainties,” said Vivek Rathi, National Director Research, Knight Frank India. Manufacturing picks up pace, agriculture slows The gross value added (GVA) in the manufacturing sector showed a growth of 13.9% in the second quarter of the current fiscal compared to a contraction of 3.8% in the year-ago period. “Manufacturing and construction were the clear leaders with growth of 13.9% and 13% respectively. In the case of manufacturing, high profit growth contributed to the buoyancy while construction was up due to housing as well as government capex,” said Madan Sabnavis, chief economist at Bank of Baroda. As per the data, the output (GVA) in the 'mining and quarrying' accelerated to 10% in the second quarter against a contraction of 0.1% a year ago. Electricity, gas, water supply and other utility services' grew by 10.1% from 6.1%. “Double digit growth in the industry sector, especially in manufacturing and construction is suggesting that businesses ramped up production to meet the pent-up demand just before the festivals,” said Rumki Majumdar, Economist, Deloitte India. According to the <keyword id="7734679" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-statistical-office" source="Orion">National Statistical Office</keyword> (NSO) data, the agriculture sector GVA growth decelerated to 1.2% in the September 2023 quarter from 2.5% a year ago. This was expected due to seasonal effect, say economists. The construction sector recorded a growth of 13.3% year-on-year in the second quarter compared to 5.7%. The expansion in financial, real estate and professional services' GVA was 6%, down from 7.1% in the year-ago quarter. “As a derived demand, the upturn in the capex cycle and the strengthening domestic profile of consumers should prove to be strong drivers of India's real estate market. The continuation of the real estate upcycles, coupled with the increased focus on infrastructure development will support the sustained growth of the construction sector,” said Rathi. Meanwhile, the output of eight key infrastructure sectors jumped 12.1% in October 2023 against 0.7% expansion in the year-ago period on account of a sharp uptick in production of coal, steel, cement and electricity, according to the official data. The government's fiscal deficit at the end of October touched 45% of the full-year budget estimate, according to data released by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on Thursday. “Personal consumption growth lost momentum and grew only 3.1% YoY. However, it could be a possibility that consumers postponed their spending for the upcoming festive months and may have reallocated funds for investments. Higher consumer spending may get reflected in the October-December quarter,” said Majumdar. (With PTI inputs)

Even as consumer companies are battling a slowdown, demand for real estate has not cooled despite rising interest rates. It’s been a great festival season for Mumbai’s real estate developers, which is one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world. As many as 12,602 units were registered between Navratri until Bhai Dooj – that’s October 15-November 15, 2023. It represents a 30% growth over last year’s festival period, as per <keyword id="151748" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="knight-frank-india" source="Orion">Knight Frank India</keyword>. Thanks to as many as 407 units being registered per day, the festive fervour has made the state exchequer richer by ₹1,257 crore. “Mumbai city embraced the auspicious festive period with a remarkable surge in property registrations, reflecting a heightened commitment to high-value investments. As the festive season continues, registration volumes are expected to remain robust, fuelled by favourable market conditions, including moderately increasing property prices and stable policy interest rates,” said Shishir Baijal, Chairman &amp; Managing Director, Knight Frank India. The surge was much expected due to a combination of factors like stable interest rates and the growing love for more spaces. Most experts have been betting on the real estate sector’s prospects this year. They also hope that 2023 as a whole will surpass 2022’s home sales. Moreso, the festive season is key for most developers because a large chunk of home sales take place during the period. “Approximately 40% of residential units sold annually close during the last quarter of the year. According to industry estimates, house sales in 2023 will likely be 20–30% higher than in 2022, given the current holiday season and the fact that sales are already approaching 2022 levels,” said Manju Yagnik, VC of Nahar Group. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman &amp; CEO - India, South-East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa, CBRE also said that he expects the festive season sales to boost the momentum already seen through 2023. Developers too have been offering schemes and incentives to lure in buyers, especially first-time buyers. “As the residential cycle matures amidst inflationary pressures, we have witnessed increasing demand in the mid-end and premium categories. Conversely, the premium and luxury segment is expected to emerge as a sought-after investment avenue, particularly for HNIs and NRIs seeking to safeguard their investments amid global macroeconomic uncertainties,” said Magazine.

Mumbai property registrations jump 30% during festive season compared to last year

<ul><li><keyword id="6368266" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bond" source="Orion">Bond</keyword> yields will continue to be a headwind for <keyword id="46002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold-prices" source="Orion">gold prices</keyword> this quarter, say experts.</li><li>It’s prudent to diversify <keyword id="18712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold" source="Orion">gold</keyword> holdings into ETFs, bonds, physical gold and MFs, they advise.</li><li>Gold’s slip is more choppiness and not a material weakness, says a <keyword id="113718" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-gold-council" source="Orion">World Gold Council</keyword> report. </li></ul>In a world of uncertainties, the prices of gold have held steady since April this year. That’s until late September, bond yields started rising, giving an alternate safe haven to nervous investors. The yellow metal’s 3.7% fall in September was also aided by a strong US dollar. Experts believe that in spite of the spike seen after the Israel war, rising bond yields will continue to drag down gold prices. “Rising bond yields are indeed correlated with a strengthening dollar index, driven by expectations of sustained high-interest rates. This dynamic can exert downward pressure on gold prices for another quarter or so,” Jateen Trivedi, VP-research analyst at LKP Securities told Business Insider India. The Bond villain US bond yields hit a 16-year high last month. They’re driven by the Fed’s ‘higher for longer’ interest rates stance, and rising US government debt levels. Both these factors are expected to remain a headwind for gold in the near future. “Gold does not pay any interest. So rising bond yields increase the opportunity cost of holding gold and weigh on the metal’s demand,” Ghazal Jain, fund manager- alternative investments. Quantum AMC told Business Insider India. A recent report by the World Gold Council said that the cocktail of economic resilience and rising yields is likely to bring continued turbulence to gold. “Central banks, led by the Fed, are defiantly resisting a pivot in the near future, and higher supply chases reluctant demand. At the same time, underlying economic conditions remain buoyant so a soft landing is the consensus outcome,” says a World Gold Council report. Festivals and physical gold buys The festive and wedding season in India traditionally sparks enthusiasm for the purchase of physical gold, due to cultural and religious reasons. The sharp change in gold prices last month, combined with a hazy price outlook in the near future might dampen this season’s sales which kickstarts in October and November. Most analysts believe that gold prices will stabilize only once the Fed takes an interest rate pause. But, few can proffer any insight into its timeline. In the meanwhile, Trivedi advises investors to diversify their gold holdings this festive season. “Allocation in ETFs, bonds, and physical gold is a prudent approach. Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs), in particular, offer an additional interest of 2.5%, which physical gold does not provide. This diversified strategy can help investors make the most of the festival and wedding season while benefiting from added financial advantages,” he adds. Experts also have other concerns about physical gold purchases that’s marred with concerns regarding purity and more. Jains says that it’s also price inefficient as retail markups and lower resale values eat into investor returns. “Investors can opt for <keyword id="57156" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gold-etfs" source="Orion">gold ETFs</keyword> that are backed by 24 karat physical gold, let you invest in denominations as low as 0.01 grams, are regulated, give you the benefit of wholesale prices at retail levels and are traded on the exchange at the prevailing market price of physical gold offering liquidity. Mutual fund investors can opt for Gold Mutual Funds that invest in Gold ETFs and offer SIP facility,” Jain said. Buy on dips say experts Global gold ETFs saw outflows since June, which intensified in September. But, domestic gold ETFs have seen steady net inflows for six consecutive months from April to September, with monthly inflows averaging around ₹326 crore. “This time of the year is auspicious to buy gold and the recent down move in prices provides investors a great opportunity to buy,” Jain says. The World Gold Council too says that the recent weakness seen in the markets is more of choppiness and not a material weakness. “It receives support from a number of factors including a poor risk-for-reward for equities, rising recession risk over the next 6-12 months, inflation volatility and central bank buying,” it adds. Gold offers a perfect textbook hedge against inflation. Since the inflation risk across the world is far from over, gold will continue to shine with more uncertainty in the offing.
