<h2>What Are Agricultural or Farming Drones?</h2><p>Agricultural <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/drone-technology-uses-applications">drone technology</a> has been improving in the last few years, and the benefits of drones in agriculture are becoming more apparent to farmers. Drone applications in agriculture range from mapping and surveying to cropdusting and spraying.</p><p>On the surface, agricultural drones are no different than other types of drones. The application of the UAV simply changes to fit the needs of the farmer. There are, however, several drones specifically made for agricultural use (more on that in a later section).</p><h2>Agricultural Drone Technology</h2><h3>Precision Agriculture</h3><p>Precision agriculture refers to the way farmers manage crops to ensure efficiency of inputs such as water and fertilizer, and to maximize productivity, quality, and yield. The term also involves minimizing pests, unwanted flooding, and disease.</p><p>Drones allow farmers to constantly monitor crop and livestock conditions by air to quickly find problems that would not become apparent in ground-level spot checks. For example, a farmer might find through time-lapse drone photography that part of his or her crop is not being properly irrigated.</p><h3>Mapping/Surveying</h3><p>The process of using a drone to map or survey crops is a relatively straightforward one. Many newer agricultural drone models come equipped with flight planning software that allows the user to draw around the area he or she needs to cover. Then, the software makes an automated flight path and, in some cases, even prepares the camera shots.</p><p>As the drone flies, it automatically takes pictures using onboard sensors and the built-in camera, and uses GPS to determine when to take each shot. But if your drone does not have these automatic features, then one person needs to fly the drone while the other takes the photos.</p><h3>Cropdusting/Spraying</h3><p>In 2015, the Federal Aviation Administration approved the Yamaha RMAX as the first drone weighing more than 55 pounds to carry tanks of fertilizers and pesticides in order to spray crops. Drones such as this are capable of spraying crops with far more precision than a traditional tractor. This helps reduce costs and potential pesticide exposure to workers who would have needed to spray those crops manually.</p><h2>Future of Farm Drones</h2><p>BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service, expects spending on the overall drone market to surpass $12 billion by 2021. But what about the agricultural drone market specifically?</p><p><a href="https://www.gminsights.com/pressrelease/agricultural-drones-market">Global Market Insights</a> forecasts that the agricultural <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/drone-industry-analysis-market-trends-growth-forecasts-2017-7">drone market</a> size will exceed $1 billion and 200,000 units shipped by 2024. GMI attributes the growth through 2024 to increasing awareness of the pros and cons of drones in agriculture among farmers.</p><p>The company also claims that technological advancements in farming techniques will push demand during the forecast period. Increased automation stemming from a lack of skilled resources and a labor crisis will also bolster agricultural drone demand. Finally, GMI expects government programs in this sector to permit operations of various sizes to help make farming processes more efficient.</p><h2>Agricultural Drones for Sale</h2><p>There are numerous types of agricultural drones on the market, but a few have risen above the rest as the cream of the crop. </p><ol><li><strong>PrecisionHawk's DJI Matrice 200 v2: </strong>PrecisionHawk is a popular drone choice for farmers, and after partnering with DJI in 2016 the company has flourished in the market. It's popular among farmers, and the biggest selling point is the company's proprietary eMotion software, which makes designing a flight plan incredibly simple. The drone boasts the ability to capture hundreds of acres of footage in a single flight. </li><li><strong>Sentera PHX Complete System: </strong>The <a href="https://sentera.com/product/sentera-phx/">PHX</a> features a long-range omnidirectional communication link and can collect data from 700 acres. MS Dhoni-backed drone firm Garuda Aerospace launches farmers-focused film

<ul><li><keyword id="6354787" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="dgca" source="Orion">DGCA</keyword> has issued the <keyword id="973758" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="type-certification" source="Orion">Type Certification</keyword> for the Kisan or farmer drones made by <keyword id="4610420" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="garuda-aerospace" source="Orion">Garuda Aerospace</keyword>.</li><li>Garuda Aerospace also said it has an order book of 5,000 drones.</li></ul>The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued the Type Certification for the Kisan or farmer drones made by Garuda Aerospace, the company said.<br /><br />Garuda Aerospace also said it has an order book of 5,000 drones.<br /><br />According to Garuda Aerospace, the DGC Type Certification is provided on the basis of the quality check of the drones and is issued after a rigorous testing process for the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).<br /><br />The Type certification was introduced by the Indian government in August 2021 under Drone Rules.<br /><br />Following the Type Certification for the GA-AG model, Garuda Kisan Drone - priced at Rs.4.50 lakh- is now eligible for Rs.10 lakh unsecured loan from Agri Infrastructure Fund at five per cent and 50-100 per cent subsidy from the Government of India.<br /><br />"We are powered and blessed with strong demands of manufacturing 5,000 drones in the next five months catering to many opportunities. DGCA approves Garuda Aerospace's Kisan drone

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Ukraine is using drones meant for farmers to target Russia's tanks.</li><li>They retrofit the drones with weapons and other components before sending them into battle.</li></ul><p>Ukraine has a new weapon against Russia: "The bat."</p><p>It's a rotor-powered drone that can carry multiple 20-kilogram shells, which Ukrainian forces launch toward Russian tanks.</p><p>The drone was intended to be used by farmers, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/30/technology/ukraine-russia-war-drones-china.html">The New York Times</a> reported.</p><p>The machines were supplied by Reactive Drone, a Ukrainian company founded in 2017 to provide farmers with drones that can spray pesticides, according to the Times.</p><p>When Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, company founder Oleksii Kolesnyk told the Times he and his team started turning the farming tools into battle machines within days.</p><p>Kolesnyk's efforts reflect a larger trend in Ukraine's drone strategy: turning low-cost consumer drones into military weapons. In addition to the farm drones, Ukrainian forces are also relying on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-war-top-tanks-taken-out-by-cheap-hobby-drones-2023-8">low-cost hobbyist drones</a> to take down Russian armored vehicles.</p>

Ukraine is retrofitting agricultural drones designed for farmers with 20-kilogram bombs that can be aimed at tanks

Bengaluru, Drone manufacturer <keyword id="4610420" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Garuda-Aerospace" source="Orion">Garuda Aerospace</keyword> said on Tuesday it has secured an order of 400 Agri Kisan Drones from Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (<keyword id="74204" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iffco" source="Orion">IFFCO</keyword>). This takes Garuda <keyword id="84758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aerospace" source="Orion">Aerospace</keyword>'s order book tally to 10,000 drones for this year within the first three months, it said in a statement. <br /><br />"The collaboration between Garuda Aerospace and IFFCO aims to revolutionise the agricultural sector by introducing the Garuda Kisan Drone at the 'IFFCO Drone Yatra' in Karnataka. These state-of-the-art drones will enable farmers to utilise Nano Urea spraying through Precision Agriculture Drones, maximising their efficiency and productivity," it said. <br /><br /> According to the statement, IFFCO has launched a nationwide campaign to procure 2,500 'Kisan Drones' as spray solutions for their products -- Nano Urea and Nano DAP. This initiative not only supports the development of around 5,000 rural entrepreneurs trained in drone spraying but also promotes sustainable agriculture and holistic cooperative development, it said.

Garuda Aerospace bags 400 Agri Kisan drone orders from IFFCO

<keyword id="19919396" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tripura" source="keywords">Tripura</keyword> Agriculture and Farmers Welfare <keyword id="19914583" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Minister" source="keywords">Minister</keyword> Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday said that within the next few months, drone technology will be integrated with the state's agriculture sector to address certain challenges.<br /><br />The members of <keyword id="22212826" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="womens-self-help-groups" source="keywords">women's self-help groups</keyword> (SHGs) will get the best possible training so that they can operate the drones effectively for different purposes such as <keyword id="22212827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spraying-fertilisers" source="keywords">spraying fertilisers</keyword> and pesticides in fruit and flower gardens.<br /><br />Speaking to after the inauguration of the new Agriculture Development Research and Training Centre at Killa under the Gomati district of Tripura, Nath said, "The central government has launched the scheme called drone Didi which is especially for women. Soon after the scheme was launched, a state committee was constituted. As per the recommendations of the committee, drones will be sent to the agriculture sub-divisions."<br /><br />According to Nath, the appointment of trainers has already been done who will impart training to the SHG members. "The trainers are already recruited. We hope within the next two months drones will reach each of the 47 agri-subdivisions," he added.<br /><br />The Minister also announced that a special scheme has been undertaken to appoint "Krishi Sakhis (Friends of Farmers)" who provide agriculture-related solutions to the farmers in the rural areas.<br /><br />"One sakhi (friend) will be appointed for one rural local body such as Gram panchayats and Village Committees. We have forwarded the proposal to the central government. If we get the approval, the process of appointing Sakhis will be started immediately."<br /><br />On the agricultural infrastructure he inaugurated, Nath said, "We are setting up new infrastructure in all agri subdivisions. This is a new training center set up for the farmers of the area. All the officials, trainers, and experts will come here and speak to the farmers. Tripura to introduce drones for agriculture purposes, says Minister

<p>Farmers around the world are already experiencing the benefits of using small commercial drones to gather data and make real-time decisions.</p>
<p><span>But this breakthrough is awaiting formal approval from the FAA, which is has yet to issue guidelines for regulating commercial drones and integrating them into the national airspace. As part of its information-gathering process, FAA-approved studies of agricultural drones are taking place across the country. Among them is a partnership between North Carolina State University and Toronto-based drone-maker Precisionhawk.</span></p>
<p>"What the modern farmer wants is to manage productivity. He wants to be more efficient. He wants to be more effective," Gary Roberson, a professor at North Carolina State University, tells Business Insider. "The days of keeping records on the dashboard of the truck are long gone."</p>

The Drone Revolution Is Coming To America's 2 Million Farms

The Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for <keyword id="19899038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="drones" source="keywords">drones</keyword> and drone components is a kickstarter for the sector to progress and should not be considered as a permanent subsidy scheme by the government, according to Union Minister <keyword id="19895367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Piyush-Goyal" source="keywords">Piyush Goyal</keyword>.<br /><br />"The <keyword id="19981334" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PLI-scheme" source="keywords">PLI scheme</keyword> is not an end to itself, infect the purpose of the PLI is to kickstart the industry. This is not a permanent subsidy. Praising the development of technology and growth in the drone industry on the strength of innovation, he asserted that the development of the drone ecosystem and deploying them in villages across the nation aligns with the PM's 'NAMO Drone Didi' initiative that will help empower the women in the agriculture sector.<br /><br />"In the third term of the PM's administration we will work at triple the speed, ensure three times the result and hope to become the third largest economy in the world", said the Union Minister.<br /><br />He further stated that drones have the ability to contribute to the cooperative sector, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and to Farmers Producer Organisation (FPOs) as a shared facility with the help of agri-infra funds in delivering fertilisers and reducing wastage and expenses of the farmers.<br /><br />The Union Minister said that for financing and mentoring of the drone ecosystem, (Small Industries Development Bank of India) SIDBI can be roped in to promote the sector.<br /><br />On the startup ecosystem, the Minister said that 18 Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) have already been offered in the first half of 2024 and 17 IPOs were offered in 2023. Goyal added that under the guidance of <keyword id="19899320" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PM-Modi" source="keywords">PM Modi</keyword>, the country has seen windfall investments from foreign investors and there has been a massive push for infrastructure. He further stated that easing of regulations and compliance burden on startups along with enabling Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) have been the primary focus of PM Modi's government.<br /><br />The minister also added that infrastructure growth has a multiplier effect on the economy that leads to demand for goods and services and increases consumption in the country. However, the <keyword id="137685" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="FAA">FAA</keyword> currently bans all commercial use of drones pending regulatory rules scheduled to be published sometime in 2015. </span></p>
<p><span>Panelists and attendees of a <keyword id="265897" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="SXSW">SXSW</keyword> panel discussion entitled "Who’s Afraid Of The Big Bad Drone?" bemoaned these onerous rules and described them as choking off innovation. </span></p>
<p><span>Film production companies benefit from the use of camera-equipped drones. They can get angles and camera shots that are impossible for a helicopter, and a crashed drone is immensely less likely to result in serious injury or loss of life.</span></p>
<p><span>Some film production companies are using drones quietly in the hopes of not attracting FAA attention. One attendee described receiving a cease &amp; desist letter from the FAA after using drones to film.</span></p>
<p><span>Agricultural companies use drones to analyze crops. Since this tends to be a service offered to farmers for free in order to market other products, it’s avoided FAA pressure so far. But with no clear rules in place, it remains a gray area.</span> </p>
<p>The FAA is required under the <a href="http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.658:">2012 FAA Reauthorization Act</a> to develop a regulatory framework for licensing of commercial drones by 2015, but hobbyists and entrepreneurs fear that the deadline may not be met, leaving them in legal limbo.  <span>Industry group</span> <a href="http://www.auvsi.org/Home/">AUVSI</a> (Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International) released a report claiming that every year the FAA delays integrating commercial drones into the US airspace <a href="http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/03/12/what-is-the-drone-industry-really-worth/">costs the economy at potential $10 billion</a>.</p>
<p><span>The drone industry is frightening to many because its military applications are what tends to make news, but drones have many nonthreatening commercial uses that are being held back by the FAA limitations. Entrepreneurs at SXSW and elsewhere are eager to deploy this technology.</span></p>

Entrepreneurs At SXSW: Give Us Our Drones!

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Reuters</span></p></div><p></p></div></div><a href="http://www.measure.aero/">Measure</a>, the drone-fleet company cofounded by Wall Streeter Robert Wolf, is launching a nationwide franchise operation.</p><p>Measure doesn't make drones. It runs fleets of them which it leases out to farmers, oil companies and others who use them to gather data.</p><p>The company was granted government approval in September to operate a fleet of 300 types of drones. At the time it said it was the only company with such permission.</p><p>It is now looking for drone operators to join its franchise program.</p><p>"Customers with nationwide data requirements need standard services," said Measure CEO Brandon Torres Declet.</p><p>Franchisees will get protected territory and access to Measure's commercial clients. The franchise operation is part of a broader effort to become the leading player in the commercial drone industry.</p><p>Wolf is a former chairman and CEO of UBS Americas, and served on <a href="http://32advisors.com/team/robert-wolf/">President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.</a> He went on to set up <a href="http://32advisors.com/">32 Advisors</a> and then Measure, where he is chairman.
