Israel provides half of the Gaza Strip's electricity and there are restrictions on the movement of people and goods.<h2>Food insecurity is a constant problem in Gaza</h2>Sourani said the food insecurity crisis is why he founded the Gaza Urban and Periurban Agriculture Platform six years ago. The nonprofit has helped expand access to local food and boost incomes for family farmers, particularly women.Before the war, there were about 3,000 micro-agricultural businesses led by women, such as crop and animal production and food processing, Sourani said. The nonprofit works on developing more markets in grocery stores and malls, securing quality control certificates for their products, and providing opportunities for women to network and speak with policymakers."We need to help women restore their enterprises and the thousands of families who are in need of food, especially those who are displaced in the shelters," Sourani said.He estimated that at least 50% of those enterprises have been completely or partially destroyed during the war, with hundreds of millions of dollars lost.Sourani said it was a difficult decision to leave Gaza to accept the Zayed Sustainability Prize, but he had the support of his family and help from the UAE and its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent, to get to Dubai.He felt it was important to share the mission of the Gaza Urban and Periurban Agriculture Platform and be a voice for Palestine at the UN summit attended by more than 100,000 world leaders, foreign diplomats, corporate executives, reporters, and activists.Palestine can speak at UN meetings, but <a target="_blank" href="https://www.un.org/unispal/history/">has non-member observer status</a> and therefore can't vote on resolutions — including on the war in Gaza.<h2>Protests spill into the UN summit in Dubai</h2>The war has at times spilled into the UN climate summit, known as COP28, including during the first days as world leaders arrived to give speeches. Farmers have been seeking a rollback of the country’s new farm laws. After a tractor rally took a violent turn on January 26 in the national capital, the government blocked the Internet in Delhi, and deployed heavy security at its borders. Intensifying their protest against the three <keyword id="9970645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="farm-laws">farm laws</keyword>, <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> blocked the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway at some places in Haryana on Saturday. The blockade started at 8 am and would last 24 hours. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of protesting farmer unions spearheading the agitation against the agriculture-related legislations, on Friday gave a call for a 24-hour blockade of the <keyword id="6367712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="kmp-expressway">KMP expressway</keyword>. The 136-km-long expressway is also known as the Western Peripheral Expressway. Protesting farmers, however, said emergency vehicles will be allowed to ply. Bhartiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) general secretary Harinder Singh Lakhowal said the blockade would be for 24 hours. Haryana Police in the meanwhile issued a traffic advisory, asking travellers to avoid the KMP expressway. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Navdeep Singh Virk on Friday said elaborate arrangements were in place to maintain peace and order, prevent any kind of violence and facilitate traffic movement and public transport on the expressway. Traffic diversions have been planned by affected districts especially Sonipat, Jhajjar, Panipat, Rohtak, Palwal, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Nuh, Virk said. Passengers coming from Ambala/Chandigarh side on National Highway-44 may go towards UP's Ghaziabad and Noida via Karnal to <keyword id="6360543" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="shamli">Shamli</keyword> and from Panipat to Sanauli. Vehicles going towards Gurgaon and Jaipur can take National Highway-71A from Panipat and travel via Gohana, Rohtak, Jhajjar and Rewari. Hundreds of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at three border points of Delhi -- Singhu, Tikri (along Haryana), and <keyword id="56516" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ghazipur">Ghazipur</keyword> -- demanding a repeal of the three farm laws enacted by the <keyword id="6356303" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre">Centre</keyword> in September last year. The Centre says the new farm laws will free farmers from middlemen, giving them more options to sell their crops.
