But now, in a partnership between the <a href="https://franklloydwright.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation</a> and <a href="https://www.utrf.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Unity Temple Restoration Foundation</a>, you can visit 12 of the buildings virtually. </p><p>Every Thursday, a representative stationed at one of Wright's buildings will take viewers on a tour of a new building. The videos will be livestreamed and saved on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the <a href="https://franklloydwright.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's</a> website.</p><p>The tours will last until mid-May and include some of his most famous works — like Taliesin West.</p><p>Taliesin West is a UNESCO World Heritage site in the deserts of Arizona. The building served as Wright's winter home and "<a href="https://franklloydwright.org/taliesin-west/">desert laboratory</a>." </p><p>Or visit <a href="https://fallingwater.org/">Fallingwater</a>, a home sitting over waterfalls and tucked inside southwest Pennsylvania's forests. </p><p><div type="image" title="fallingwater frank lloyd wright" height="1904" width="1208" msid="75186002" hostid="261"></div></p><p>"It is precisely at this time, when so many are shut inside, that we need to experience beauty and inspiration. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A woman was held <keyword id="6569977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="captive">captive</keyword> for months in <keyword id="106037" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pennsylvania">Pennsylvania</keyword> by an ex-partner, according to local reports.</li><li>"If I don't make it tell my family I love them," one of the notes said, according to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/alleged-victims-notes-public-bathrooms-led-rescue/story?id=78816174">ABC News.</a></li><li>Authorities were able to rescue her on Sunday.</li></ul><p>A woman who was held captive for months by an ex-partner was rescued this week after she left notes in two different public restrooms that helped lead <keyword id="11098" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="police">police</keyword> to her location.</p><p>Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania woman was able to scrawl a plea for help on a scrap of paper in a Walmart bathroom when her captor took her there briefly. Days later, she left another secret message at a museum.</p><p>"If I don't make it tell my family I love them," one of the notes said, according to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/alleged-victims-notes-public-bathrooms-led-rescue/story?id=78816174">ABC News.</a></p><p>The notes also listed the address of where she was being held and implored the reader to call 911, warning that her captor had a knife, <a href="https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/woman-rescued-man-after-notes-left-walmart-fallingwater/PIYMNE5MONBC5JDZXRMGTH2UPI/">WPXI News</a> reported. </p><p>Authorities were able to locate the unnamed woman on Sunday night, where they arrested Corey Brewer, 38, <a href="https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/Report/MdjCourtSummary?docketNumber=MJ-05222-CR-0000099-2021&amp;dnh=KpV39bQKKqL26lH2PNL9Iw%3D%3DD%3D">charging</a> him with several crimes, including sexual assault, strangulation, and unlawful restraint. Police said signs of abuse were evident. </p><p>The victim told officials she had been held captive since May 1, and Brewer told her he would kill her and her children if she attempted to escape, according to <a href="https://www.wtae.com/article/woman-held-captive-rescued-after-leaving-notes-in-public-restrooms/37004500">WTAE</a>.</p><p>On July 8, a stranger in a Carnegie Walmart bathroom found the woman's first note, ABC reported. The note reportedly said Brewer was keeping the woman prisoner, beating her, and sexually abusing her. She left a description of his car and the address where she was being held.</p><p>The stranger called 911, but when police knocked on Brewer's door, nobody answered, though authorities noted in a criminal complaint reviewed by ABC <keyword id="6355005" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="news">News</keyword> that they heard "shuffling" inside. Authorities were unable to enter without a warrant.</p><p>Police also tried to contact the woman via phone, but Brewer picked up and told authorities she was on vacation in New York, according to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/woman-held-captive-may-rescued-after-leaving-notes-public-restrooms-n1274028">NBC News</a>.</p><p>The next day, another note was found, this time in the women's bathroom at the Fallingwater museum in Mill Run, south of Pittsburgh. In the note, the woman clarified that she was not on vacation and left additional details about her captor and how long she had been held.</p><p>"It states that she heard the police knocking at the residence, that the abuse hasn't stopped, and please don't give up," the complaint said, according to NBC. </p><p>Authorities spotted the victim on the museum's cameras and were able to obtain a search warrant, WTAE reported. </p><p>A SWAT team apprehended Brewer and the victim was taken to the hospital. She told authorities she never tried to run because she feared for her children's safety, the complaint said. She also said Brewer took her phone away and took nonconsensual sexual photos of her. </p><p>Brewer was released from Allegheny County Jail on Monday and has a hearing set for July 22.</p><p>WTAE reported that Brewer opened his door to a reporter on Tuesday but declined to comment. </p>

McModerns can lack the ornamentation that define McMansions, like bump-outs with mix-matched materials and cathedral ceilings.</p><p><span>Modernist architecture emerged in the first half of the 20th century. Famous architects who designed in the style include Frank Lloyd Wright (Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pennsylvania), Philip Johnson (the Seagram Building in Manhattan), and Le Corbusier (Notre du Haut in Ronchamp, France).</span></p><p><span>Unlike most&#xa0;modernist homes, McModerns are usually not made by individual architects, but by home-building companies that use pattern books. Similar to the McMansion, the McModern is a single-family home constructed from cheap materials, like vinyl and stucco board.</span></p><p><span>As Wagner notes, many of today's homebuyers view the modernist building&#xa0;as a high-brow form of architecture. Unless you've been living on the moon, you probably already know these things.</p><p>It's on computers, phones, tablets, and game consoles. It's at your local mall, occupying kiosks with plushies and T-shirts. There's a semiannual convention ("MineCon") and an education initiative that's got it in schools (<a href="http://minecraftedu.com/">MinecraftEDU</a>).</p><p>But why is it so popular? Why 'Minecraft' is so incredible

<p>"Minecraft" is this generation's Super Mario. It's an international phenomenon. Unless you've been living on the Moon, you probably already know these things.</p><p>It's on computers, phones, tablets and game consoles. It's at your local mall, occupying kiosks with plushies and t-shirts. There's a semi-annual convention ("MineCon") and an education initiative that's got it in schools (<a href="http://minecraftedu.com/">MinecraftEDU</a>).</p><p>But why is it so popular? We're talking about a game that looks like this:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Keep in mind that there are games coming out on modern video game consoles that look like this:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>And what do you actually do in "Minecraft?" Build stuff? Perhaps you've seen some of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/amazing-things-people-made-in-minecraft-2014-9">incredible worlds</a> people have created from within "Minecraft," like this one of King's Landing from "Game of Thrones":</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Not bad! So how does a world go from a flat, grassy meadow to a pixelated re-creation of Westeros' capital city? The answer to that question is half of the reason people love "Minecraft": creation. The castles above were built block-by-block.</p><p>Think of "Minecraft" as virtual LEGO. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lego-worlds-announced-2015-6">LEGO does</a>.</p><p>It's a system for fitting pieces together to create something - sometimes amazing somethings - from nothing. "Minecraft" provides endless building blocks and a blank canvas. It's up to you to create something incredible, or silly, or referential, or whatever, using the tools it provides. The tools are blessedly user-friendly, as are the systems for employing those tools.</p><p>The most basic unit of measurement is a single block. This is a dirt block:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>This is the literal and figurative building block of the game. You start with nothing but fists and a massive, unexplored world, ripe for creation. You walk forward; you punch the ground below you and it begins to crack. Why is it cracking? And suddenly, POP! Where the ground once was is now an empty square space. It looks like this:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The word "minecraft" is a portmanteau of two verbs: to mine, to craft. Punching a dirt block and retrieving a dirt block to build with is the first verb - the mining. When you start "Minecraft," it's the first thing you should do.</p><p>Once you've retrieved enough blocks, the second thing you'll need to do is craft: combining the resources you've mined to create more complex tools. "Mining" for wood (punching a tree) enables you to create basic tools. Those basic tools enable you to mine more complex resources, which enable you to create more complex items and tools.</p><p>It's this highly satisfying cycle of mining resources, and creating from those resources, that draws in millions of players around the world. And that's the basest level of "Minecraft."</p><p>The other side of "Minecraft," sadly not encompassed in the game's title, is exploration. Every time you start a new world in "Minecraft," it's unique. Rather, levels are randomly generated based on a set of parameters. There are some constants:</p><ul><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The levels always contain the same materials (dirt, trees, water, etc.)</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">There is a day/night cycle</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">At night, enemies appear and will attack you</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">You can only dig so deep below the world's surface before hitting bedrock</span></li><li><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"></span></span><p class="p1"><span class="s1">The world that spawns always has stuff to discover, whether it's crazy jungles or mountains or underground caves or whatever.</span></p></li></ul><p>Yes, there are enemies. You've almost certainly seen the iconic "Creeper" at your local Hot Topic. This guy (or lady?):</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>These green, exploding monsters are exclusive to the "Survival" mode of "Minecraft" - if you just want to create ad infinitum, there's a "Creation" mode that enables exactly that. No day/night cycle. No enemies. No mining, even, if you don't want to mine. Just endless creation. </p><p>But be warned: if you don't choose "Survival" mode, you'll never experience the joy of discovering a labyrinthine cave network by accident, full of rare resources (diamonds!) and life-threatening lava. You'll never know the thrill of narrowly escaping a mob of spiders, zombies and Creepers into the ramshackle hut you've composed just in time to hide for the night. You'll never know the heartbreak of a Creeper sneaking up and exploding the side of your carefully constructed homage to John Travolta's face. Up your nose with a rubber hose, Creeper.</p><p>So forget all the hype. Forget the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-buys-minecraft-2014-9">billions Microsoft spent</a> buying "Minecraft" from its creator, Markus "Notch" Persson and his team at Mojang.</p><p>"Minecraft" is so incredibly successful and popular because it's delightful.
