The Central Government has directed <keyword id="6374174" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sugar-mills" source="Orion">sugar mills</keyword> across the country to <keyword id="15449954" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="export-speedily" source="Orion">export speedily</keyword> to make an <keyword id="15449955" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="early-payment-to-farmers" source="Orion">early payment to farmers</keyword>.<br /><br />In a statement issued on Sunday <keyword id="393956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-consumer-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of Consumer Affairs</keyword>, <keyword id="427106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-and-public-distribution" source="Orion">Food and Public Distribution</keyword> stated, "At the end of Sugar Season 2022-23, it is expected that most of the sugar mills will be able to sell their products either in the domestic market or in the international market through exports and will clear the cane dues of farmers in time. Thus, the policy has created a WIN-WIN situation for sugar mills in the country."<br /><br />The statement comes after the government allowed the export of 6 million tonnes of sugar on a quota basis during the sugar season (SS) 2022-23 as another measure to balance the price stability of sugar in the country and the financial positions of sugar mills in the country, based on initial estimates of sugarcane production.<br /><br />"The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has already notified to extend the inclusion of sugar exports under the 'Restricted' category up to October 31, 2023," the ministry said.<br /><br />According to the official information given by the Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD), the Central Government has prioritized the availability of about 275 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of sugar for domestic consumption, about 50 LMT of sugar for diversion to ethanol production and to have a closing balance of about 60 LMT as on September 30, 2023.<br /><br />"Balance quantity of sugar produced by sugar mills in the country would be allowed for exports. Since at the beginning of sugar season 2022-23, initial estimates of sugarcane production are available, it has been decided to allow the export of 60 LMT sugar," it said.<br /><br />The ministry said that the sugarcane production in the country will be reviewed periodically and based on the latest available estimates, the quantity of sugar exports to be allowed could be reconsidered.<br /><br />During SS 2021-22, India exported 110 LMT of sugar and became the second largest exporter of sugar in the world and earned about Rs 40,000 crore worth of foreign exchange for the country.<br /><br />"Timely payment and low carrying cost of stocks for sugar mills also resulted in early clearance of cane arrears of farmers," the ministry added.<br /><br />As on October 31, 2022, more than 96 per cent of cane dues of farmers for SS 2021-22 were already cleared despite record procurement of sugarcane of more than 1.18 lakh crore rupees.<br /><br />It is worth mentioning that in the sugar export policy for SS 2022-23, the government has announced sugar mill wise export quota for all sugar mills in the country with an objective system based on the average production of sugar mills in the last three years and the average sugar production of the country in last three years.<br /><br />Further, to expedite the sugar exports and to ensure flexibility to sugar mills in the execution of the export quota, mills may decide to surrender the quota partially or fully within 60 days of the date of issue of the order OR they can swap the export quota with domestic quota within 60 days. This system would ensure a lesser burden on the logistics system of the country as the swapping system would reduce the need to transport the sugar from distant locations to the ports for exports and movement of sugar across the length and breadth of the country for domestic consumption.<br /><br />It is also notable that swapping would also ensure the liquidation of sugar stocks of all mills as mills which are not able to export could swap their export quota with the domestic quota of sugar mills which are able to export more, mainly due to their vicinity to ports.<br /><br />"The sugar export policy is an indication of the focus of the government on ensuring price stability in the sugar sector in the interest of domestic consumers. By restricting sugar exports, domestic prices will remain under control and no major inflationary trends will arise in the domestic market. Indian sugar market has already seen a very nominal price increase which is in tune with an increase in the FRP of sugarcane for farmers," it added.<br /><br />Another focus area is the production of ethanol in the country which is a priority area for the country to reduce dependence on fuel imports and to move towards green energy. Higher ethanol prices for producers have already encouraged distilleries to divert more sugar towards ethanol. The sugar export policy is another mechanism to ensure the availability of sufficient sugarcane/sugar/molasses for ethanol production. Diversion of sugar towards ethanol production during ESY 2022-23 is expected to be 45-50 LMT.<br /><br />By allowing sugar exports, the government has also protected the interest of cane farmers and sugar mills as mills will be able to take benefits of a favourable international sugar price scenario and achieve better prices of sugar so that cane dues of farmers in the current sugar season 2022-23 may also be paid timely and working capital costs of mills may reduce due to optimum level of sugar stocks with them.<br /><br />In the last 6 years, the government has taken multiple and timely initiatives in the sugar sector enabling sugar mills to stand on their own and become a self-sufficient sector. Govt asks sugar mills to export speedily to make early payment to farmers

The Supreme Court in a majority judgment on Monday upheld the validity of the Constitution's 103rd Amendment Act 2019, which provides for 10 per cent <keyword id="11939755" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ews" source="Orion">EWS</keyword> reservation amongst the general category in admissions and jobs.<br /><br /> A five-judge Constitution bench in a 3:2 majority verdict has held that the provisions of the Amendment do not violate essential features of the Constitution.<br /><br /> Chief Justice of India UU Lalit and S Ravindra Bhat dissented from the majority verdict and struck down the 103rd Amendment Act.<br /><br /> "I have concurred with the view taken by Justice Bhat. The decision stands at 3:2," said CJI Lalit while pronouncing his verdict in the last.<br /><br /> Majority bench - Justices Dinesh <keyword id="89142" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="maheshwari" source="Orion">Maheshwari</keyword>, Bela <keyword id="729" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="trivedi" source="Orion">Trivedi</keyword> and <keyword id="3029297" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jb-pardiwala" source="Orion">JB Pardiwala</keyword> upheld the EWS Amendment saying the EWS quota does not violate the basic structure of the Constitution.<br /><br /> Justice Maheshwari, while reading out the judgement said, "The EWS amendment does not violate the equality code or the essential features of the Constitution."<br /><br /> He said reservation is an instrument of affirmative action so as to ensure an all-inclusive march towards the goals of an egalitarian society.<br /><br /> Justice Bela M Trivedi said her judgment is in concurrence with Justice Maheshwari and that the EWS quota in the general category is valid and constitutional.<br /><br /> She said, "The amendment as a separate class is a reasonable classification. Legislature understands the needs of people and it is aware of the economic exclusion of people from the reservation."<br /><br /> Justice JB <keyword id="3025481" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pardiwala" source="Orion">Pardiwala</keyword> in his separate but concurring judgement with Justices Maheshwari and Trivedi upheld the Act and said that reservation should not continue for an indefinite time.<br /><br /> He said. "The ones who have moved ahead should be removed from backward classes so that ones in need can be helped. The ways to determine backward classes need a re-look so that ways are relevant in today's time. SC upholds 10 per cent quota for economically weaker sections by 3:2 majority

In conjunction, Adidas said it hopes the two factories can produce one million pairs of shoes a year by 2020.</strong></li><li><strong>Adidas will continue to experiment with the Speedfactories, adding new technology and more automated processes to get to a goal of 50% of shoes made by with speedier methods.</strong></li></ul><p>Adidas' American Speedfactory is open for business.</p><p>The <a href="https://hypepotamus.com/news/adidas-speedfactory/">74,000-foot</a> facility in Cherokee County, Georgia, outside Atlanta, is now pumping out shoes using a completely automated digital manufacturing process.</p><p>The first shoes produced and sold from the factory, the new AM4NYC (Adidas made for New York City), created specifically for New York's urban streets, will go on sale Thursday.</p><p>The shoes were made for quickly changing directions on urban streets using Adidas sports science data, and are an example of the combination of speed and flexibility the new factory offers, as well as its ability to create specific and custom footwear.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Adidas</span></p><p class="caption">The new Adidas AM4NYC sneaker made by the Atlanta Speedfactory.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>As the name implies, the Speedfactory is about speed</h2><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"We have ambition to have 50% of our sales [from] under what we call speed programs," </span>Gil Steyaert, an Adidas executive board member responsible for global operations, told Business Insider. <span style="font-weight: 400;">"That means that product, which would be reproduced or created in the season [is] for the same season." </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The speed initiative is "very much aiming at the fast fashion model where we can bring product closer to the consumer," Steyaert said.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Closer to the consumer also means physically closer - that is, produced in America, not Asia, where the majority of Adidas shoes are produced. That makes it much quicker to ship the shoes throughout the continent, and the shoes can be made specifically for the American market, a market which has been the major focus for the brand and part of its stellar performance in the last few years.</span></p><h2><strong>The Speedfactory is fast, but flexible</strong></h2><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Speedfactory can create more inventory for a hot shoe that's flying off shelves and can't be kept in stock,  supplementing other inventory shipped over from Asia. Or the factory can create entirely new shoes specifically for the market as part of a limited run.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Eventually, Steyaert says customers may be able to create their own completely custom, one-of-a-kind Adidas shoes designed to their own specifications online. Things like patch placement and details on the uppers of shoes would be able to be customized by customers.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Speedfactory is able to customize the shoe indefinitely while being in an automated engineering process," Steyaert said. "We can actually tune the shoe to the customization that the consumer wants to have. "If you had to make a new line [with traditional manufacturing] you'd have to stop the production line and reproduce."<br /></span></p><h2><strong>Adidas has lofty goals for its Speedfactories</strong></h2><p>Adidas has set a goal to create a total of one million shoes a year from both of its two Speedfactories - the Atlanta location as well as the first in Germany - by 2020.</p><p>Though that numbers is significant, its small compared to the total number of shoes Adidas makes a year - 403 million pairs of shoes in 2017, or more than a million a day on average.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Speedfactories are meant to be "complementary to our main source of supply," Steyaert said. "[They] will never substitute our main source of supply."</span></p><p>As of now, the factory currently has about 150 employees. That relatively low number of employees means that it is economically feasible to have a factory in a country without an employee base full of highly skilled shoemakers.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Adidas</span></p><p class="caption">A robot creates a shoe inside an Adidas' Speedfactory.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Adidas wants to increase its speed in other ways</h2><p>The second part of Adidas' speed strategy relates to infrastructure - something that's been under pressure in the US as Adidas' popularity has taken off, particularly <span style="font-weight: 400;">distribution.</span></p><p>"When you grow more than 30% per year you push inevitably some infrastructure," <span style="font-weight: 400;">Steyaert said.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Adidas has made investments in its East Coast and West Coast warehouses, including its own warehouse in  Spartanburg, South Carolina.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The brand is also planning on opening a brand new warehouse in New Jersey dedicated to e-commerce and <keyword id="6354851" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="retail">retail</keyword>. Steyaert says this will be able to service New York City - one of Adidas' "key cities" - with quick delivery, possibly even same-day. </span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Adidas isn't done with its Speedfactories, however. It plans to innovate within them to add more automated processes and see if it can get even more speed and flexibility out of them.
